The truth about the attacks on Palin
The truth is this, it was only because of Sarah Palin that McCain did as well as he did, as this great piece points out. She was the only exciting thing about the campaign frankly.
The reason the Left is attacking Palin is simple, she is perceived as the biggest threat in 2012. So, they are going tp try and beat her down and discredit her as stupid, or unprepared to lead, and yes, they have already started that effort.
They used every effort to discredit Fred Thompson as lazy, and as a man who did not have enough fire in the belly as we recall. They were petrified of him, a good speaker, with a record of solid, no BS Conservative principles, Thompson posed a threat and they knew it.
So, they set about discrediting Thompson, the media did their part, setting him up as unbeatable, then as soon as he got into the race, they started painting the image of him as lazy, unprepared, and spun everything in his campaign as negatively as possible. They wanted a beatable Republican, and Republican without those solid conservative principles. And they got it didn’t they?
They did their best to sabotage Thompson and Romney, and pushed Guiliani early, and McCain later. Those two were the most Liberal of the Republicans running. The media also really hurt Thompson by creating the “Huckasurge”. Of course Huckabee was more Conservative than Guiliani or McCain, but he was also a candidate who everyone who thought about it knew was not going to win. So, by pushing him they managed to water down the Social-Conservative vote enough to assure Thompson and Romney stood no chance.
See the Left, and the media get it. Conservatives WIN when they act Conservative. The elites in the GOP, and the current GOP leadership do not get that, they kep trying to run candidates who are less than Conservative, with predictable results.
