More Assbackwardness from Islam
The top Islamic body in Indonesia has issued a fatwa banning Muslims from practising some aspects of yoga.
The Council of Ulemas (MUI) said exercises containing Hindu elements such as chanting were forbidden and could weaken the faith of Muslims.
The move follows a similar ruling by the religious authorities in Malaysia last year.
You know, they might actually enjoy the 21st Century, too bad they are stuck in the 13th Century!
Heartache! Climate Catastrophe to hit DC
Apparently, a titanic sized burst of Hot Air is set to wreak havoc on our nation’s capitol! Not too cause a sense of panic, but I think we are SCREWED!
Al Gore will exhort US lawmakers to renew US leadership on battling climate change next week, as “green” groups push for quick, sweeping action from President Barack Obama and a friendly Congress.
Gore will testify before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on Wednesday as Democrats — who now control the White House and enjoy sizeable majorities in the Senate and House of Representatives — seek to wield their new power.
“He understands the urgent need for American engagement and leadership on this issue. America must act decisively,” ahead of December UN talks on the issue in Copenhagen, said Democratic Senator John Kerry, the panel’s chairman.
Kerry “wanted to send a message that this is going to be a priority for the committee going forward this year. He wanted to set the tone, set the agenda,” and get his colleagues’ attention, said a committee staffer.
Will President Obama listen to his generals?
I have long held that generals should fight wars, and that presidents should listen to their expertise. THat just makes sense to me. After all, fighting wars IS what our military does, and does better than any other military by the way.
So, the biggest question I had about the new administration was would Obama alter his 16-month withdrawl plan for Iraq if his generals advised against it?
On Wednesday, the president met with Secretary of Defense Robert Gates, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Adm. Michael Mullen and Central Command commander four-star Gen. David Petraeus. Gates, supported by Mullen and Petraeus, vigorously argued that the president should back away from his campaign pledge to withdraw all U.S. combat forces from Iraq within the next 16 months and space out the withdrawal over a longer period of time. However, the president instructed the three officials to prepare a plan that would still implement the 16-month withdrawal period, Pentagon sources said. The discussion between the president and the three officials was friendly and respectful. However, the president’s determination to implement his stated policy took the officials by surprise, one of the sources told UPI. Petraeus, in particular, had expected the recommendation to extend the period of the withdrawal timetable to be accepted, several sources said.
Did Obama REALLY close Gitmo?
Very interesting read.
Contrary to reports, Obama did not shut down Gitmo. Rather, he issued an order saying he will (or, to be precise, he intends to and is willing to commit in advance to) shut down Gitmo in a year’s time. This, to mix a metaphor, is kicking the can as far down the road as he possibly can without being penalized for delay of game. Or, to mix yet another metaphor, Obama is promising to write a popular book in a year’s time and is happy to pocket a sizable advance of good will and commentary now; book to be written later. Until then, however, other actions, like the shuttering of other detention centers, will have an immediate impact.

Nigerian police vs magic goat
Too funny not to post! Just too funny!
POLICE in Nigeria are holding a goat on suspicion of attempted armed robbery.Vigilantes took the black and white beast to the police saying it was an armed robber who had used black magic to transform himself into a goat to escape arrest after trying to steal a Mazda 323.“The group of vigilante men came to report that while they were on patrol they saw some hoodlums attempting to rob a car. They pursued them. However one of them escaped while the other turned into a goat,” Kwara state police spokesman
Tunde Mohammed said.“We cannot confirm the story, but the goat is in our custody. We cannot base our information on something mystical. It is something that has to be proved scientifically, that a human being turned into a goat,” he said.
Video-Chrissy Matthews wonders if Palin can read, write
What a douchebag! Note at the end of the clip that he says only ONE politician can write. Oh, more Obamagasms for Chrissy!
Hope and Change? Hmmmm
Meet the new boss, same as the old boss?
The Obama administration fell in line with the Bush administration Thursday when it urged a federal judge to set aside a ruling in a closely watched spy case weighing whether a U.S. president may bypass Congress and establish a program of eavesdropping on Americans without warrants.
In a filing in San Francisco federal court, President Barack Obama adopted the same position as his predecessor. With just hours left in office, President George W. Bush late Monday asked U.S. District Judge Vaughn Walker to stay enforcement of an important Jan. 5 ruling admitting key evidence into the case.
Thursday’s filing by the Obama administration marked the first time it officially lodged a court document in the lawsuit asking the courts to rule on the constitutionality of the Bush administration’s warrantless-eavesdropping program. The former president approved the wiretaps in the aftermath of the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks.
“The Government’s position remains that this case should be stayed,” the Obama administration wrote (.pdf) in a filing that for the first time made clear the new president was on board with the Bush administration’s reasoning in this case.
Will the Leftists be outraged? Will they say Obama is shredding the Constitution? Destroying our freedoms? HMMMMM
Another gun control lie exposed
Gun control advocates always throw out the argument that madmen could not go on killing sprees, or harm large number of people if guns were “not so readily available”.
Well, this story from Belgium where there are very harsh gun laws. Seems that disarming the law-abiding does nothing to dissuade evil men.
Tom Hanks to Mormons: So sorry!
Recently Hanks called Mormons who opposed to Prop 8 “Un-American”. Typical Liberal, you might think, except Hanks came out and apologized for his comments.
Last week, I labeled members of the Mormon church who supported California’s Proposition 8 as “un-American.” I believe Proposition 8 is counter to the promise of our Constitution; it is codified discrimination. But everyone has a right to vote their conscience – nothing could be more American. To say members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints who contributed to Proposition 8 are “un-American” creates more division when the time calls for respectful disagreement. No one should use “un- American” lightly or in haste. I did. I should not have.
Sincerely,
Tom Hanks.
Now some Conservatives will dismiss Hanks and his apology. But, I thought it was both the right thing to do, and done in a sincere, thoughtful fashion. Thank you Mr. Hanks, for actually issuing an apology that sounds both unscripted and genuine.
Predator drones 15 terrorists 0
Give Obama credit for continuing to use the Predators to strike terrorists in Pakistan.
Two missile attacks launched from remotely piloted American aircraft killed at least 15 people in western Pakistan on Friday. The strikes suggested that the use of drones to kill militants within Pakistan’s borders would continue under President Obama.
Remotely piloted Predator drones operated by the Central Intelligence Agency have carried out more than 30 missile attacks since last summer against members of Al Qaeda and other terrorism suspects deep in their redoubts on the Pakistani side of the border with Afghanistan
My only thought here is what will President Obama do if he comes under heavy critcism for these strikes? Will he be like Bush, and do what is right and continue to take out bad guys? Or will he be Clinton? Will he stick his finger in the air and consult the polls to decide what approach to take?
Clinically depressed poodle 1 former French leader 0
And the French wonder why we make jokes about their toughness?
Former French President Jacques Chirac was rushed to a hospital after being mauled by his pet dog who is being treated for depression, in a dramatic incident that rattled the ex-president’s wife.
The couple’s white Maltese poodle, called Sumo, has a history of frenzied fits and became increasingly prone to making “vicious, unprovoked attacks” despite receiving treatment with anti-depressants, Chirac’s wife Bernadette said.
“If you only knew! I had a dramatic day yesterday,” she told VSD magazine. “Sumo bit my husband!”
Mrs. Chirac, 74, did not reveal where the former president was bitten, but said, “the dog went for him for no apparent reason.”
“We were aware the animal was unpredictable and is being treated with pills for depression. My husband was bitten quite badly but he is certain to make a full recovery in weeks.”
