Well, so much for having to close it to save our image in the world I guess!

Rep. Alcee Hastings (D-Fla.), a senior member of the House Intelligence Committee, said he is planning legislation that would order the facility to be kept open, while assuring the world that torture and mistreatment of detainees has ended.

“What’s needed at Guantanamo Bay is transparency and accountability,” Hastings said. “You go back and change the bad things and turn the page.”

Hastings said a colleague dubbed his plan “Guantanamo 2.0.” Still in the draft stage, it would assure access to the prison by the United States’s Western allies and watchdog groups like Amnesty International and the Red Cross. Add that to President Obama’s decision to end “enhanced interrogation,” and there isn’t a need to close the detention facility, Hastings said.

“All they want to know is that there isn’t any torture and people can go there and see,” Hastings said.

Well, I guess now that they realize that closing Gitmo is not a piece of cake, they are looking to keep it open and save face as well.

In response to a question about immigration, Rubio dropped his previous pleas against harsh attacks on illegal workers. He said he would not have voted in favor of the legislation — backed by Crist and Sen. Mel Martinez — that would have allowed illegal workers to earn legal status, which he called “blanket legalization.”
“Nothing is more disruptive to legal immigration than illegal immigration,” he said. “We must secure our borders.”

House Democrats on Thursday defeated a Republican push to investigate House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s claims that the CIA misled her in 2002 about whether waterboarding had been used against terrorism suspects. The House voted 252-172 to block the measure that would have created a bipartisan congressional panel. Rep. Rob Bishop, R-Utah, sponsored the resolution.

“This is partisan politics and an attempt by the Republicans to distract from the real issue of creating jobs and making progress on health care, energy and education,” said Pelosi spokesman Nadeam Elshami

Partisan politics? Of course that whole Pelosi idea for a Truth Commission wasn’t partisan though. Of course not! This is just good old CYA!

Obama set to apologize for US war crimes at D-Day ceremony?

Barack Obama is going to visit Dresden, Germany during D-Day ceremonies this year. For Germans, Dresden is the symbol bar none of German suffering at the hands of the Allies. It was already reported that Obama would recognize German suffering during the anniversary ceremonies. Obama will likely apologize for “American war crimes” during his Dresden stop.

Readers of this blog are familiar with Chavez persecuting opposition leaders, among them Manuel Rosales and two governors. However, there’s a new trend in the Bolivarian Revolution: persecuting their own.

In recent months, a string of allies or former allies of Chávez have run afoul of a justice system critics say is completely controlled by the executive. Their crime, it is alleged, is that they failed to show unquestioning loyalty to the man who likes to be known these days as “comandante-presidente.”

Obama has a problem

Apparently, Obama’s having a tough time with Sheriff Joe, who just can’t seem to control his verbal diarrhea:

President Obama is so “distracted by his vice president’s indiscipline” that he has been forced to rebuke privately Vice President Joe Biden, according to a new book by Newsweek journalist Richard Wolffe, who interviewed Obama a dozen times.

“He can’t keep his mouth shut,” Wolffe quotes a “senior Obama aide” as saying of the gaffe-prone Biden in “Renegade: The Making of a President,” set for release June 2.

Clearly, Joe Biden with all of his wisdom and experience is a much better vice president than that uneducated Alaskan yokel Sarah Palin would have been.

That always gets a chuckle out of me too. The Left hailing Biden as some intellectual giant, while berating Sarah Palin as a boob.

California voters soundly reject tax and spend policies, the media misses the point!

The fine folks at BCB nailed the media’s spin on the anti-tax and spend votes in California. While the media misses is the massive rejection of more foolish, wasteful tax and spend California into oblivion policies by the voters of that state.

The national media has been pontificating all day about what a disaster the California referendum results are. They have been wailing about what cuts are going to have to be enacted as a result of the vote. Some are even bemoaning the fact that voters exercised their democratic rights to reject the tax hikes.

What is missing, from what I have read at least, is the incredible size of the majorities that beat hell out of the spend and tax proposals. If Obama’s 6% election victory was a “landslide”, this is a thermonuclear landslide.  We are talking about a nearly 2 to 1 rejection of higher taxes here, not a just-got-by defeat.

The only thing that passed in an even bigger landslide was that pesky proposition 1F – cutting off any legislative or state executive pay increases when the state is running a deficit. That one passed by a 3 to 1 margin.

In other words, while the media is stunned that Americans could actually reject, by gargantuan margins, the same assbackwards policies that put them in financial hell to begin with, they completely miss the fact that Americans have had enough of the same old BS from government.

Good, keep missing the point. The media is as out of touch as the Democrats are, and if thsy stay that way, they will get a large wake up call around early November 2010.

This is really sad

Abortion is an awful thing all the way around, and this little “happy abortion story” I found linked at American Power really is depressing to read. In the short “story” are graphic illustrations of the moral depravity that the pro-choice side celebrates. Here have a sample

I had an abortion last month. It was probably the hardest choice I’ve ever had to make. I love children and I want to be a mother SO badly. Call me unfeminist if you will, but my dream is to have that white picket fenced house in the suburbs with a pack of kids, a husband, and a bunch of pets. I’m 21 years old, I don’t have a steady job or a car or my own house, my boyfriend and I have only been together for 6 months, my health is crap, I’m a borderline alcoholic, yada yada yada. So really, bad time to have a baby. I am not a fan of adoption – I’ve heard far too many horror stories, and I couldn’t send my baby out in the world to be raised by someone else who might not be a good parent. If anyone’s going to fuck up my kids, it’s going to be me!, and given my health and drinking, it would have been likely that I and/or my child would have been seriously damaged by the pregnancy.

Let us take a look at a couple of things. She did not want to give her baby up for adoption, because someone else, would raise her child. So,she kills her child? That is somehow better for the baby? Instead of risking bad parenting, she has her child aborted. How humane of her.

She adds that the pregnancy would be a risk because of her drinking too. Hmm, how about this, instead of killing your child, why not quit drinking instead? Oh, excuse me for mentioning personal responsibility.

The writer goes on to say she is glad she does not regret her choice. I think she does deep down inside. I hear a lot of “rationalizing” in her post. Like I said very sad.

Terror attack in NYC stopped

FBI arrested four men in New York City on Wednesday evening in an alleged plot to detonate a bomb outside a Jewish temple and to attack an Air National Guard Base in upstate Newburgh.

Officials said arrests came after a long-running undercover operation that began in Newburgh. Federal authorities tell CBS 2 HD the motive for the attack was revenge over the United States’ involvement in Afghanistan.

Federal authorities announced the arrests of James Cromitie, David Williams, Onta Williams and Laguerre Payen on charges arising from a plot to detonate explosives near a synagogue in the Riverdale section of the Bronx, and to shoot military planes located at the New York Air National Guard Base at Stewart Airport in Newburgh with Stinger surface-to-air guided missiles.

In their efforts to obtain weapons, the defendants dealt with an informant acting under law enforcement supervision, and the FBI and other agencies monitored the defendants’ actions up to the time of arrest, including providing an inactive missile and inert explosives to the informant for the defendants.

Colin Powell issued a sharp rebuke Tuesday night to Rush Limbaugh and Dick Cheney for trying to exclude him from the backbiting Republican Party.

Before some 1,500 business leaders in Boston, as well as Patriots quarterback Tom Brady and wife Gisele Bundchen, the retired general and former secretary of state spoke openly of the dispute roiling the Grand Old Party after election setbacks and polls putting its popularity at roughly one of five Americans.

“Rush Limbaugh says, ‘Get out of the Republican Party.’ Dick Cheney says, ‘He’s already out.’ I may be out of their version of the Republican Party, but there’s another version of the Republican Party waiting to emerge once again,” Powell told the crowd.

Yes, that party HAS emerged,long ago, it is the Democratic Party! Face the music here Gen Powell. Your values are not the values of the Republican Party. If they were you would have been criticizing Obama’s Socialist schemes. All we have heard from you, sir,is silence over Obama’s pursuit of an imperial presidency.

I must gather, sir, that you are either in agreement with Obama’s path to Marxism or you are too busy taking cheap shots at real Republicans to notice. Either way, it really is time for you to take your act to the Democratic Party.

US Senate says no to closing Gitmo

Well, actually it was more like Hell no! 90-6? OUCH! See what happens when a president has no clue what he is doing? Talking about closing Gitmo to appease the Far Left is easy. Deciding what to do with the terrorists at Gitmo? Not so easy. Even Obama’s own party knew how irresponsible this was.
