Kidnapped California Girl Who Surfaced 18 Years Later Kept As Sex Slave – Fox News
A convicted sex offender and his wife have been arrested in the 1991 kidnapping of an 11-year-old girl – who, authorities tell FOX 40 News, had been kept as a sex slave.
The unnamed authorities also told the TV station that the victim, Jaycee Lee Dugard, bore several children for the sex offender, Phillip Garrido, 58, and they said Garrido and his wife, Nancy, 54, held Dugard in a shed or other structure in the backyard.
Police in Concord, Calif., say they’re “very confident” that a woman who recently came into the police station there identifying herself as Dugard is the girl, who was abducted 18 years ago from a school bus stop.
“We’re 99 percent sure it’s her,” said Lt. Les Lovell of the El Dorado Sheriff’s Department. He said DNA tests were being conducted. The woman is in good health, but it was not immediately clear when she came in to the station.

The Garridos were arrested Wednesday based on a kidnapping and conspiracy investigation, police said. Phillip Garrido also is being held on possible charges of rape by force, lewd and lascivious acts with a minor and sexual penetration, said Jimmie Lee, a spokesman for the Contra Costa Sheriff’s Department.
Phillip Garrido has a past conviction for rape by force or fear, according to the Megan’s Law database.
Dugard, a blond, bony-tailed 11-year-old, was taken from the school bus stop minutes after she left her South Lake Tahoe home in 1991.
Lovell said Concord police did an investigation after the woman surfaced, and he received a call Wednesday from investigators who tentatively identified her as Dugard.
“Her family has been contacted and they are in the process of arranging” a meeting, said Lovell, who was a detective assigned to help investigate the kidnapping in 1991. “We are very confident at this point in time that it is her.”
