Yep! Sarah Palin had a point about those “death panels”

We know many were shocked and outraged by her comment, but, darn it, she wasn’t that far off base, not at all

No one ever accused Palin of being a health policy expert, and many found her hyperbolic term “death panel” off-putting. But that should not distract voters from this reality: President Obama has proposed a new body that would enhance Medicare’s ability to deny care to the elderly and disabled based on government bureaucrats’ arbitrary valuations of those patients’ lives.

It is right there in the legislation now before Congress, and it is called the Independent Medicare Advisory Council.

So, what would this “advisory council? do, exactly?

Enter the Obama administration, which submitted to Congress legislative language that would create IMAC and give it broad authority to recommend “reforms to the Medicare program.” In effect, IMAC would enable Medicare to overcome the political resistance to government rationing.

Some facets of Medicare would be beyond the reach of IMAC’s unelected bureaucrats— but not Medicare’s interpretation of “reasonable and necessary.” The stimulus bill and the House reform plan deny federal agencies conducting comparative-effectiveness research the power to “mandate coverage, reimbursement, or other policies for any public or private payer.” Obama places no such restrictions on IMAC.

Unless Congress rejects IMAC’s recommendations within 30 days, they would become law. The administration would have license to implement them “notwithstanding any provisions of this Act or any other provisions governing the Medicare program.”

So, really, death panel was not the correct term. Palin should have said the Death Advisory Council instead! Think that is still too strong? Well consider this.

Lest you think this too Orwellian to become reality, consider that this type of government rationing already happens in the United Kingdom. Britain’s National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (or “NICE”) generally refuses to cover medical treatments that cost more than $35,000 per year of life saved.

Whatever one thinks of Sarah Palin should not distract from this truth: President Obama proposes to let government bureaucrats decide who gets medical care and who does not.

I have asked this before, and I think it ought to be asked of every ObamaCare supporter who claims health care is a right. If health care IS a right, then do you support the rationing of all rights?

Kennedy Wants Law Changed In Massachusetts… Again – Hot Air

During the time Mitt Romney was governor of Massachusetts, Senator John Kerry ran for President and looked at times that he might win. The state legislature, egged on by Kerry’s Senate partner Ted Kennedy, changed the law regarding the selection of a replacement Senator to require a state election, keeping Romney from the possibility of appointing – quelle horreur! – a Republican in Kerry’s place. Now that Ted Kennedy is perhaps too ill to continue, Kennedy now wants the law changed back, since there’s a Democrat in the governor’s chair.

Ok, I promised myself I wouldn’t post this video again now that Teddy is on his death bed, but after hearing about his recent effort to screw the voters of Massachusetts one last time before he shuffles off his mortal coil, I’ve decided to take off the kid gloves and let this bloated, parasitic, degenerate drunk have it once more for old times’ sake.

Hurricane Bill Could Brush Cape Cod, Forecasters Say – CNN

Forecasters said they think it’s unlikely Hurricane Bill will make landfall in the United States, but they haven’t ruled out the chance for a direct hit on a Massachusetts island.

Cape Cod lies within the National Hurricane Center’s cone of uncertainty and is at risk for a Sunday morning strike by Bill, forecasters said. Wind gusts greater than 39 mph will be possible Saturday evening through midday Sunday in Boston and the rest of eastern Massachusetts.

The first hurricane of the 2009 Atlantic season does not directly threaten the rest of the Eastern coastline, but the Middle Atlantic States and Northeast may see high surf, dangerous rip currents and coastal flooding by Friday and Saturday morning as Bill moves northward, those meteorologists said.

Hurricane Bill was downgraded early Thursday to a Category 3 storm on the Saffir-Simpson scale of strength. Hurricanes are ranked in categories 1 to 5 on that scale. But forecasters warn the storm could regain strength and become a Category 4 overnight as it encounters warmer waters.

At 2 p.m. ET, Bill was heading northwest at nearly 18 mph. The hurricane edged closer to Bermuda, with its eye about 645 miles south of the British territory. Bill’s maximum sustained winds were near 120 mph, the hurricane center said.

Polls Close In Afghanistan Election – Irish Times

Millions of Afghans went to the polls today, defying Taliban threats of violence and sporadic attacks across the country to choose a president in the midst of a worsening war.

“The Afghan people dared rockets, bombs and intimidation and came out to vote,” President Hamid Karzai told a news conference after polls closed.

“We’ll see what the turnout was. But they came out to vote. That’s great, that’s great.”

Two Taliban fighters were killed in a gunbattle in the capital and rockets fell on several towns, mainly in the south and east, but violence tapered off during the day. Mr Karzai said in all there were 73 attacks in 15 of the country’s 34 provinces.

“Overall, the security situation has been better than we feared. That is certainly the most positive aspect of these elections,” said Kai Eide, head of the UN mission in Kabul.

“The security situation has, in general, allowed people to take part in the elections,” he said.

Pre-election polls showed Karzai, in power since 2001, is likely to win but not by enough to avoid a run-off against his main challenger, his former foreign minister Abdullah Abdullah, who ran a surprisingly energetic campaign.

The election is in large measure a referendum on Karzai, a master coalition builder who is personally liked by most Afghans but also widely blamed for running a government that is corrupt, ineffective and entirely dependent on international aid.

Sopranos-Style Tactics In Health Care – Newt Gingrich

Rep. Henry Waxman is making America’s health insurance companies an offer they can’t refuse.

Like a mafia underboss trying to face down a rival crime family, the powerful California Democratic chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee has resorted to ugly intimidation tactics with opponents of government-run health care.

In the spirit of Joe McCarthy, earlier this week, Waxman and House Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee Chairman Bart Stupak, D-MI, sent a letter to 52 of the nation’s largest health insurance companies that contained a not-so-veiled threat.

Waxman and Stupak’s letter demanded detailed information from health insurance companies about executive pay, corporate conferences and retreats, and other business practices.

For any employees or officers making more than $500,000 a year in the past six years, the congressmen are demanding details on salaries, bonuses, pensions and other compensation.

They’re asking for a list of conferences and retreats that are paid for by insurance companies. They’re also insisting that insurance companies disclose the identity of all board members and their compensation.

According to the letter, all this information must be provided by Sept. 14 as part of an investigation of “executive compensation and other business practices in the health insurance industry.”

Imagine that. An investigation of health insurance compensation launched by two powerful Democratic House Committee Chairmen in the midst of a coordinated campaign to vilify health insurance companies.

As far as intimidation tactics go, this latest move by Waxman and Stupak makes the White House’s effort to “flag” online political opponents look small time.

Waxman and Stupak are attempting to use raw political power to silence their opponents, plain and simple. If that’s not the case, why single out one sector of healthcare and not others, like physician groups, hospitals, and drug companies? Could it be because many of these groups have publicly supported the emerging Democratic legislation?

The problem for Democrats is that making health insurance companies the cartoon villains of heath care reform is a sign of desperation, not strength.

It has come to this….

Hey, once you start creating scores of Czars…..

Je$$e Jack$on Jr. Marxist Moron of the Day!

Good freaking grief!

A layer cake of stupidity, starting with the fact that this guy’s actually doubling down on one of the dumbest gaffes committed by The One since he took office. Parse his logic: If we didn’t have the postal service as an alternative to private carriers like Fed Ex, UPS, and DHL, what, oh what, would stop them from charging $100 per letter? Any theories, possibly involving basic economic dynamics and/or longstanding federal statutes? For fun, try putting the question to a fifth-grader and see if he comes up with an answer more incisive than Triple J.

Hall of Fame level stupidity!

Team Obama! Now with more corruption than ever!

Michelle talks about the revelation that David Axelrod has a slight conflict of you know what!

Fake doctors! The new booming career field!

They just keep showing up at these Liberal townhalls! HMMMMMMMMMMMMMM If you HAVE to lie, to sell your message…….

More BS from MSNBC

Maybe I should just call them MSNBS? Here is a video, via ConfederateYankee and Hot Air comes this video. MSNBS anchor Contessa Brewer and her two guests are so intent on selling their spin that White racists are bringing guns to health care townhalls, that they edit out the race of the man with the rifle.

Check out the video first.

OK, note the asinine accusation made by the three spinning heads that this is all because Obama is Black, and that it has to be RAAACISM. Now look at the guy the video shows carrying the rfle.

3837812241_9331868de0_o

Gee, I wonder Why MSNBS would not show his face? Hmmmmmm, could it be they are liars? I think so! Whyb are MSMBS’s ratings in the toilet? Hmmm, I wonder if Keith Olbermann will be outraged over this? NOT!

In Carol’s Closet today

OK, let us have a peek in here. Cheetos, Seinfeld DVD’s, and what is this? Oh no! a Congressional investigation!

Mark Steyn writing at The Corner:

HUAC (The Healthcare UnAmerican Activities Committee)

Doctor O’s enforcers decide it’s time to get heavy with the
insurance companies:

Letters sent to 52 insurance companies by Democratic leaders demand extensive documents for an examination of ‘extensive compensation and other business practices in the health insurance industry…”

By Sept. 4, the firms are supposed to supply detailed compensation data for board members and top executives, as well as a “table listing all conferences, retreats, or other events held outside company facilities from January 1, 2007, to the present that were paid for, reimbursed, or subsidized in whole or in part by your company.”

You first. How come the compensations and perks of a vice-president in a private company are to be subject to greater public forensic examination than those of Dodd or Rangel?

They’re supposed to be representatives not rulers. George III couldn’t have got away with a letter like that.

Carol adds her comments, which are very direct and to the point

Well, Obama the One shouldn’t get away with it either. What authority does the Congress have to investigate private companies who, as far as I am aware, have committed no crime?

BINGO! THis is another power grab, by Team Obama and the Democrats, nothing less. Team Hope and Change? No, Team Thuggery and Intimidation! The Chicago way!

Glenn Beck’s ratings 1 Liberal boycott 0

I hate boycotts as a general rule, I just do not think they work, generally speaking. And in this case, I am happy to be right!

Thetr is an organized attempt by the left to get advertisers to boycott Glenn Beck. There has been some success in this attempt. Viewers have responded differently. Glenn Beck’s ratings are through the roof!

Well now the cable news rankings are out and Fox News was the second most-watched basic cable channel in primetime last week, only behind USA. FNC was 5th overall in Total Day viewership.

MSNBC was 24th in primetime and 32nd in Total Day. CNN ranked 26th in prime and 23rd in Total Day.

Meanwhile, “The Glenn Beck Program”, which airs out of primetime at 5pmET, had its highest rated week ever among Households (1,907,000) and Total Viewers (2,409,000), and second best week in the A25-54 demo (682,000).

I love stories like this one!
