Kicking your Bulldog can be fun

As long as you are a Gator fan, and you whip the DAWGS!

FF_394891ALT5_xl

Yep! Great fun!

Tim Tebow accounted for four touchdowns, A.J. Jones had two huge interceptions and top-ranked Florida beat the Bulldogs 41-17 Saturday for its 17th win in the last 20 meetings between the Southeastern Conference rivals.

The Gators (8-0, 6-0) extended the nation’s longest winning streak to 18 games and clinched at least a share of the SEC East title. Florida can secure a spot in the conference title game if Tennessee beats South Carolina later Saturday.

The Bulldogs (4-4, 3-3) lost for the third time in four games.

This one hurt more than the others. Georgia spent the last 12 months stewing about last year’s 49-10 loss, a game in which Florida coach Urban Meyer called two timeouts in the final 44 seconds to prolong their misery.

The Dawgs placed pictures of Meyer signaling timeout all around their facility for motivation. Players seemed to get a little extra oomph early Saturday when they came out of the locker room in black pants and black helmets, a different look for a team that usually wears white jerseys, silver pants and red helmets on the road. The Bulldogs had never worn black helmets.

This reminds me that my Gators are now 3-0 against my fellow SEC bloggers, First it was Carol’s Closet Cats, next came Pat’s LSU Tigers, and now, Obi’s Sister’s beloved, Mutts. After this beat down, she will never link me again!

There is one more blogger, though, a fellow SEC fan, that is still on the list. RS McCain is an Alabama fan. And, if Bama makes it into the SEC Championship game, then…..CHOMP!! CHOMP!!

Gov’t Border Fence Built In WRONG Location; Traps Americans On Mexican Side! – Alamo City Pundit

KENS-5 TV in San Antonio has a story (and a nifty video report, too) of how the government dunderheads charged with building the Border Fence have bowed and scraped to the will of the politically correct and acquiesced to every ridiculous regulation and nonsensical request – and built the wall a mile north of the border – trapping American citizens on the Mexican side!

The border wall has a Texas woman feeling left out and unprotected.

For the past ten months, crews have been busy along the Rio Grande River constructing the border wall. The federal government said the $49-billion project is working. Fewer illegal immigrants are sneaking across, and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security said residents of Texas’ border cities are now safer.

However, Brownsville resident Pamela Taylor said the wall has actually made her less safe.

“I’m outside of the wall,” said 81 year-old Taylor. “I’m on what we refer to as the Mexican side.”

Taylor said she assumed the border wall would be built along the Rio Grande River, the border of Texas, but the government said because of environmental reasons and expense much of wall is not being built on the actual border. “It doesn’t make sense,” said Taylor.

The section of the wall near Taylor’s home in Brownsville is nearly a mile away from the border, trapping her between Mexico and the wall.

“We feel like we’ve been forgotten,” said Taylor. “My son-in-law asked them how are we going to get out, and they said we hadn’t even thought of anyone getting out.”

The U.S. Border Patrol said getting out will not be a problem, because at the top of Taylor’s street is a hole in the fence. Along the Texas border there are hundreds of holes, but the government said there are no gaps in security.

Michele Bachmann – “We Need To Pay A House Call On Nancy Pelosi”

Well, look who finally got his head out of his…..

Newt, buddy! Where ya been? Glad to see you are finally, begrudgingly endorsing Doug Hoffman.

Of course, we know you still pine for your Dede RINO doll, but, at least we know you WILL still do the right thing when given no other choice. So, Newt, about 2012? It is still a big NO THANKS!

As Jimmie says at the link you might help your cause if you campaign for Hoffman as passionately as you did for Scozzafava. Come on Newt, let’s see some conviction. Let’s see some sincerity.

Update on NY23, Scozzafava quits

RS McCain reports that Scozzafava, the RINO the Newtists were so desperate to reach out to, has thrown in the towel

Scozzafava, the hand-picked choice of the New York state GOP in the key 23rd District special election, reportedly will throw her support to Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman.new Siena College poll was released this morning, showing her in third place, with Hoffman neck-and-neck with Democrat Bill Owens.

Glad to see she will  be supporting Hoffman. Of course, it is likely he would get the Republican votes even without her, but, credit where due.

This news will send some tremors through the GOP establishment, and I have to think that is a very good thing. They have too long held on to their infatuation with Moderate Republicans, and it has hurt the party. They have too long taken the base for granted, and now they might be understanding how flawed  that strategy is.

The GOP ought not to be the party of diminished expectations or the party of wishy-washy principles. The founders were not wishy-washy wimps. They stood fast on principle. The GOP should learn from their example!

And Now, Your Daley Gator Scary Halloween Poem

THE RAVEN
By Edgar Allan Poe

Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered weak and weary,
Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore,
While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping,
As of some one gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door.
`’Tis some visitor,’ I muttered, `tapping at my chamber door
Only this, and nothing more.’

Ah, distinctly I remember it was in the bleak December,
And each separate dying ember wrought its ghost upon the floor.
Eagerly I wished the morrow; – vainly I had sought to borrow
From my books surcease of sorrow – sorrow for the lost Lenore
For the rare and radiant maiden whom the angels named Lenore
Nameless here for evermore.

And the silken sad uncertain rustling of each purple curtain
Thrilled me – filled me with fantastic terrors never felt before;
So that now, to still the beating of my heart, I stood repeating
`’Tis some visitor entreating entrance at my chamber door
Some late visitor entreating entrance at my chamber door;
This it is, and nothing more,’

Presently my soul grew stronger; hesitating then no longer,
`Sir,’ said I, `or Madam, truly your forgiveness I implore;
But the fact is I was napping, and so gently you came rapping,
And so faintly you came tapping, tapping at my chamber door,
That I scarce was sure I heard you’ – here I opened wide the door;
Darkness there, and nothing more.

Deep into that darkness peering, long I stood there wondering, fearing,
Doubting, dreaming dreams no mortal ever dared to dream before
But the silence was unbroken, and the darkness gave no token,
And the only word there spoken was the whispered word, `Lenore!’
This I whispered, and an echo murmured back the word, `Lenore!’
Merely this and nothing more.

Back into the chamber turning, all my soul within me burning,
Soon again I heard a tapping somewhat louder than before.
`Surely,’ said I, `surely that is something at my window lattice;
Let me see then, what thereat is, and this mystery explore
Let my heart be still a moment and this mystery explore;
‘Tis the wind and nothing more!’

Open here I flung the shutter, when, with many a flirt and flutter,
In there stepped a stately raven of the saintly days of yore.
Not the least obeisance made he; not a minute stopped or stayed he;
But, with mien of lord or lady, perched above my chamber door
Perched upon a bust of Pallas just above my chamber door
Perched, and sat, and nothing more.

Then this ebony bird beguiling my sad fancy into smiling,
By the grave and stern decorum of the countenance it wore,
`Though thy crest be shorn and shaven, thou,’ I said, `art sure no craven.
Ghastly grim and ancient raven wandering from the nightly shore
Tell me what thy lordly name is on the Night’s Plutonian shore!’
Quoth the raven, `Nevermore.’

Much I marvelled this ungainly fowl to hear discourse so plainly,
Though its answer little meaning – little relevancy bore;
For we cannot help agreeing that no living human being
Ever yet was blessed with seeing bird above his chamber door
Bird or beast above the sculptured bust above his chamber door,
With such name as `Nevermore.’

But the raven, sitting lonely on the placid bust, spoke only,
That one word, as if his soul in that one word he did outpour.
Nothing further then he uttered – not a feather then he fluttered
Till I scarcely more than muttered `Other friends have flown before
On the morrow he will leave me, as my hopes have flown before.’
Then the bird said, `Nevermore.’

Startled at the stillness broken by reply so aptly spoken,
`Doubtless,’ said I, `what it utters is its only stock and store,
Caught from some unhappy master whom unmerciful disaster
Followed fast and followed faster till his songs one burden bore
Till the dirges of his hope that melancholy burden bore
Of “Never-nevermore.”‘

But the raven still beguiling all my sad soul into smiling,
Straight I wheeled a cushioned seat in front of bird and bust and door;
Then, upon the velvet sinking, I betook myself to linking
Fancy unto fancy, thinking what this ominous bird of yore
What this grim, ungainly, ghastly, gaunt, and ominous bird of yore
Meant in croaking `Nevermore.’

This I sat engaged in guessing, but no syllable expressing
To the fowl whose fiery eyes now burned into my bosom’s core;
This and more I sat divining, with my head at ease reclining
On the cushion’s velvet lining that the lamp-light gloated o’er,
But whose velvet violet lining with the lamp-light gloating o’er,
She shall press, ah, nevermore!

Then, methought, the air grew denser, perfumed from an unseen censer
Swung by Seraphim whose foot-falls tinkled on the tufted floor.
`Wretch,’ I cried, `thy God hath lent thee – by these angels he has sent thee
Respite – respite and nepenthe from thy memories of Lenore!
Quaff, oh quaff this kind nepenthe, and forget this lost Lenore!’
Quoth the raven, `Nevermore.’

`Prophet!’ said I, `thing of evil! – prophet still, if bird or devil!
Whether tempter sent, or whether tempest tossed thee here ashore,
Desolate yet all undaunted, on this desert land enchanted
On this home by horror haunted – tell me truly, I implore
Is there – is there balm in Gilead? – tell me – tell me, I implore!’
Quoth the raven, `Nevermore.’

`Prophet!’ said I, `thing of evil! – prophet still, if bird or devil!
By that Heaven that bends above us – by that God we both adore
Tell this soul with sorrow laden if, within the distant Aidenn,
It shall clasp a sainted maiden whom the angels named Lenore
Clasp a rare and radiant maiden, whom the angels named Lenore?’
Quoth the raven, `Nevermore.’

`Be that word our sign of parting, bird or fiend!’ I shrieked upstarting
`Get thee back into the tempest and the Night’s Plutonian shore!
Leave no black plume as a token of that lie thy soul hath spoken!
Leave my loneliness unbroken! – quit the bust above my door!
Take thy beak from out my heart, and take thy form from off my door!’
Quoth the raven, `Nevermore.’

And the raven, never flitting, still is sitting, still is sitting
On the pallid bust of Pallas just above my chamber door;
And his eyes have all the seeming of a demon’s that is dreaming,
And the lamp-light o’er him streaming throws his shadow on the floor;
And my soul from out that shadow that lies floating on the floor
Shall be lifted – nevermore!

NRCC waking up?

Is the House Republican leadership finally ready to embrace a valid Conservative candidate in the race for NY-23?

The House Republican leadership is prepared to welcome Doug Hoffman into its ranks, National Republican Congressional Committee Chairman Pete Sessions (R-Texas) said Thursday, a sign that the GOP establishment is recalibrating its approach toward the contentious New York special election and the Conservative Party nominee whose candidacy has divided the party.

“He would be very welcome, with open arms,” Sessions told POLITICO in an interview off the House floor.

Sessions’s comments came as polls showed Hoffman surging in the Nov. 3 special election against Republican nominee Dede Scozzafava, a moderate who supports abortion rights and gay marriage, and Democratic attorney Bill Owens. Nearly a dozen rank-and-file Republican members announced their endorsements of Hoffman Thursday.

While the NRCC–along with House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) and House Minority Whip Eric Cantor (R-Va.)—have all thrown their backing to Scozzafava, grassroots conservatives have revolted against the GOP nominee, asserting that she is too liberal for them to support. Some have even called for conservatives to withhold donations from the NRCC in protest.

This is very positive news, of course we need MORE of this type of news, but, it seems we might be making a dent in the GOP leadership’s heads!

Big H/T to Another Black Conservartive!

GOP dumping Scozzafava?

Well, it seems that they are still endorsing her, but, the money they were sending her? No mas! And other former supporters are bailing on her.

Dede Scozzafava is now losing her supporters to Doug Hoffman.

Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) is switching his support in the New York special election from the GOP nominee to Conservative Party candidate Hoffman.

A spokesperson said Issa is overnighting Hoffman a $5,000 check from Issa’s political action committee.

Issa previously told The Hill that he supported Scozzafava, though he never gave her money. Now that she doesn’t appear to have a chance at winning, he is backing Hoffman.

Now, I would love to see the GOP leadeship switch too. Some folks fear this might hurt the GOP because it could encourage other third party candidates. A move that could, according to the pessimistic sorts anyway, cost the GOP in other races. Again, we, as a party, need to support the MOST conservative candidate if they can win. We ought to be reaching out to those candidates, and bringing them INTO the party if we can.

Conservatism is, after all, much about optimism. So, let’s be optimists. Supporting RINOs, and telling ourselves that we must sacrifice our principles to win is the path of pessimism, and of defeat. Optimism will leads us to support those candidates who DO share our principles, and that path, my friends, leads to victory!

What is in Carol’s Closet today?

AHA! Carol has a CRUSH! On one Marco Rubio! Now I bring this up for one reason, I think I can use that crush to help Carol, and yours truly. Follow along here.

Here is Marco Rubio

Marco%20Rubio

And HERE is actor Michael Weatherly

michael_weatherly_6

Very similar, so, since Rubio is married, sorry Carol, she could go for Weatherly

So, how does that benefit me? Here goes. Weatherly stars on NCIS, which also features Cote De Pablo, who I consider the sexiest woman on TV today

So, Carol gets Michael Weatherly, who does resemble Rubio. And since I set Carol up with Weatherly, he can help set me up with Cote!

Beware the Diminished Expectations of the Newtists!

Cross-posted at Not One Red Cent

Why is the race in NY-23 so important? Why is Robert Stacy McCain spending time covering this race? Why are so many bloggers and prominent Republicans, Palin, Thompson, DeMint, Malkin,  lining up and endorsing Doug Hoffman? I mean come on, he is not a Republican, he is a member of the Conservative Party. He is opposed by a Republican, Dede Scozzafava, who IS the candidate annointed by the local Republican Party, and Newt Gingrich.

So, if the Republican leadership, and Newt himself are pushing Scozzafava, then why would so many Republicans be against her. The Newtists would tell us “lesser Republicans” that Scozzafava is deserving of our suppprt because of that (R) by her name. They would tell us that we have to support her, because, well, cuddling up to Liberal Republicans, which Scozzafava most assuredly is, is the price we Republicans must pay to regain a majority in the House.

I call this the diminished expectations strategy. Yes, we want more Conservatives, but instead of daring to pursue that goal, we should settle for less. Hell, less IS easier isn’t it? So why not? After all, if the ONLY goal the Newtists have is to regain a  majority, then we should accept any candidate as long as they call themselves a Republican.

Let’s assume for a moment that that strategy works. Imagine a glorious, shining, moderate-laden, big tent Republican majority. Folks, I am talking about a Republican majority that would make Meghan McCain and David Brooks break out in song! Now that you have a good image of what the Newtist majority would look like, imagine that a massive new cap and tax bill is to be voted on by the House.

Imagine Conservative Republicans voting to stop such a disastrous bill. Imagine Democrats, now the MINORITY mind you, voting for it. A close vote that is to be decided by, Moderate Republicans that Newt has convinced us to support for the, say it with me, good of the party. Care to guess which side those ” Republicans” would take?

Now imagine the same “Republicans” voting on new tax hikes, spending cuts, gun control legislation, health care, you name it. The chances are better than average that those moderates we bedded down with to regain the majority would stab us in the back quicker than Jesse Jackson would run over an old lady to get some camera time.

So, why is NY-23 so crucial? Well, because there we have a chance to give the boot to a genuine RINO, Scozzafava, and elect a genuine Conservative, Hoffman. It is really very simple. Either we elect a “Republican”, only because of that R, the Newtsists are ready to sell our souls over, or we elect a person who will vote AGAINST ObamaCare, and other Liberal agenda items. Items that will no doubt wreck our economy, and forever fundamentally reshape America into a nation built on entitlements and big government rather than on liberty. So, really, it boils down to this. Do we care more about the “R” or about the U.S.A.?

 If you are not sure, ask yourself this. WWTFFD? What Would The Founding Fathers Do? They damn sure would not have sold out and settled for the diminished expectations of the Newtists. They would have stood on principle. They would have fought, and they would have never, ever, forgotten their goal. So, now, I ask again my friends. Why is NY-23 so imoportant……….

Tacoma Judge Michael Hecht Found Guilty Of Soliciting And Threatening To Kill Male Prostitute, Still Earning $148,000 A Year – Seattle Weekly

Tacoma Judge Michael Hecht was found guilty yesterday of soliciting male prostitutes and threatening to kill a man. But he still has a job. For now.

Hecht faces a sentencing hearing on November 17th where, because he’s a first-time offender, he could get anywhere from zero to 90 days in jail. Meanwhile, the Tacoma News Tribune reports that there’s a disagreement over whether the charges mean Hecht gets to keep his $148,000-a-year job.

Citing state law, the attorney general’s office says that Hecht is effectively fired the day he’s sentenced. The judge who presided over his case, however, says Hecht must wait until a February hearing by the state Commission on Judicial Conduct before he knows his fate.

Either way, Hecht is probably not looking at a favorable outcome. For now, though, he still gets paid.

Man Tries To Smuggle Pythons, Geckos Under His Clothes

Well Here’s Your Problem Right Here, Sir – Reuters

A man was caught by Norwegian customs carrying a tarantula in his bag, and a further 14 royal pythons and 10 albino leopard geckos taped to his body, media reported Monday.

The 22-year-old Norwegian was stopped in a routine check by Kristiansand customs after arriving on a ferry from Denmark, newspaper Faedrelandsvennen reported.

Customs found the tarantula, before deciding to give him a full body search that revealed 14 stockings – one for each snake – taped around his torso, top selling tabloid VG said.

Reptile smuggling is not uncommon in Norway, which prohibits people holding many reptile species as pets, but office manager Helge Breilid at Kristiansand customs was quoted by VG as saying customs officers had been “horrified” by Sunday’s catch.

“Customs officers quickly realized the man was smuggling animals, because his whole body was in constant motion,” Breilid told VG.

When the man dropped his pants, the officers found 10 cans taped to his legs, each containing a lizard, he said.

The man was still being held by police Monday, Kristiansand police attorney Johann Martin Kile told VG, adding he would be released upon agreeing to pay a 12,500 Norwegian crowns ($2,256) fine.

The reptiles were handed over to a security firm until Norwegian authorities decide what to do with them, Breilid said.

Somali Man, ’112′, Weds Girl, 17 – BBC News

Hundreds of people have attended a wedding in central Somalia between a man who says he is 112 years old, and his teenage wife.

Ahmed Muhamed Dore – who already has 13 children by five wives – said he would like to have more with his new wife, Safia Abdulleh, who is 17 years old.

“Today God helped me realise my dream,” Mr Dore said, after the wedding in the region of Galguduud.

The bride’s family said she was “happy with her new husband”.

Mr Dore said he and his bride – who is young enough to be his great-great-grand-daughter – were from the same village in Somalia and that he had waited for her to grow up to propose.

“I didn’t force her, but used my experience to convince her of my love; and then we agreed to marry,” the groom said.

Internet Turns 40 Today: First Message Crashed System – National Geographic

Everyone surfing for last-minute Halloween costumes and pictures of black Lolcats today – what you might call the 40th anniversary of the Internet – can give thanks to the simple network message that started it all: “lo.”

On October 29, 1969, that message became the first ever to travel between two computers connected via the ARPANET, the computer network that would become the Internet.

The truncated transmission traveled about 400 miles (643 kilometers) between the University of California, Los Angeles, and the Stanford Research Institute. (Watch video about the birth of the Internet.)

The electronic dispatch was supposed to be the word “login,” but only the first two letters were successfully sent before the system crashed.

Still, that humble greeting marked the start of a phenomenon that has become such an important part of modern life that many experts argue access to it should be a right rather than a privilege.

In fact, earlier this month Finland became the first country in the world to declare broadband Internet access a legal right for all of its 5.2 million citizens.

“I don’t think it’s quite on the level of food and water yet, but it’s pretty close,” said Jeffrey Cole, director of the Annenberg School for the Digital Future at the University of Southern California.

Packet Technology

Created by the U.S. Department of Defense’s Advanced Research Projects Agency, the original ARPANET was a network of just four computer terminals installed at universities and research institutions in California and Utah.

With its truncated missive 40 years ago today, ARPANET became the world’s first operational packet-switching network.
