Cat Makes Difference In Deportation Case – UPI

A Bolivian man was spared deportation by a British court that ruled sending him home would interfere with his family life — with his cat.

The Asylum and Immigration Tribunal ruled the man, whose name was not reported, could remain in Britain after he told the judges his joint ownership of a cat with his girlfriend was evidence he was settled in the country, the Daily Mail reported Monday.

The tribunal said in its ruling that deporting the man would violate his human rights by interfering with his family life.

The ruling has drawn fire from anti-immigration campaigners.

“Drawing pets into the consideration of issues of such importance is so utterly absurd that you could not make it up,” said Andrew Green of the think tank Migrationwatch. “This is symptomatic of the attitude held by many of the judiciary, which is complete disregard for the impact of such decisions on the future of our community.”
