Standing up for my blogging role model

Michelle Malkin is an admirable American patriot, a fine woman with integrity, guts, and a genuine love of country. It was reading her blogs that made me want to start my own, which I why I refer to Michelle as  my blogging role model. So, naturally, when she posts some of the hate mail she receives from the “tolerant” “sensitive” Left, I feel a need to defend her honor. Call it the big brother instinct. Michelle does not deserve the vile, immature things said in these letters. And it is despicable that such miscreants have such evil in their hearts.

Hey, if any of these bottom-feeders want to criticize Michelle, fine, but the gutter level personal attacks? Truly classless, truly trashy.

Obama plays Lets Make a Deal

And Pundit & Pundette are not liking this game.

Let’s face it. Barack Obama is fundamentally incapable of leading or defending our country. From Andy McCarthy:

Today, New Year’s Eve, while everyone’s attention is understandably on family and friends, we learn (thanks to the ever alert Bill Roggio, reporting on the Standard‘s blog) that the administration has now released Qais Qazali, Laith’s brother, who is the head of the Iran-backed terror network, in addition to a hundred other terrorists. In violation of the long-standing, commonsense policy against capitulating to kidnappers and terrorists because it just encourages more hostage-taking and murder, the terrorists were released in exchange for a British hostage [Peter Moore] and the remains of his three contract guards (whom the terrorists had murdered).

So, as the mullahs, America’s incorrigible enemies, struggle to hang on, we’re giving them accommodations and legitimacy. And the messages we send? Terrorize us and we’ll negotiate with you. Kill American troops or kidnap civilians and win valuable concessions — including the release of an army of jihadists, and its leaders, who can now go back to targeting American troops.

Again, news that just makes me ill. How assbackwards is this administration? Do they have any clue how foolish and harmful this is?  Jill has a great quote that sums it up.

We struggle to understand the Obama administration because we give them too much credit. Obama has never lived in the real world. His mindset of moral equivalence and Western culpability for all the ills of the world doesn’t allow him to acknowledge evil or embrace the basic tenets of self-defense or a just war.

How very sad, and how very sad.

More guns, less crime

Dan Riehl has it!

Via Mellissa Clouthier on Twitter. Link via the NRA’s Institute for Legislative Action.

Last week, the FBI issued its preliminary 2009 crime report, showing that the number of murders in the first half of 2009 decreased 10 percent compared to the first half of 2008. If the trend holds for the remainder of 2009, it will be the single greatest one-year decrease in the number of murders since at least 1960, the earliest year for which national data are available through the Bureau of Justice Statistics. Also, the per capita murder rate for 2009 will be 51 percent lower than the all-time high recorded in 1991, and it will be the lowest rate since 1963—a 46-year low. Final figures for 2009 will be released by the FBI next year.

According to gun control supporter dogma—“more guns means more crime”—the number of privately owned firearms must have decreased 10 percent in 2009. To the contrary, however, the number rose between 1.5 and 2 percent, to an all-time high. For the better part of the last 15 months, firearms, ammunition, and “large” ammunition magazines have been sold in what appear to be record quantities. And, the firearms that were most commonly purchased in 2009 are those that gun control supporters most want to be banned—AR-15s, similar semi-automatic rifles, and handguns designed for defense. The National Shooting Sports Foundation already estimates record ammunition sales in 2009, dominated by .223 Remington, 7.62x39mm, 9mm and other calibers widely favored for defensive purposes.

These facts drive gun grabbers absolutely nuts, which makes me smile.

Why do I call Barney Frank a despicable Marxist?

Well, the Classic Liberal has a very good reason

The baby of Financial Services Committee Chairman Barney Frank, the House bill is meant to address everything from too-big-to-fail banks to asleep-at-the-switch credit-ratings companies to the protection of consumers from greedy lenders. I quickly discovered why members of Congress rarely read legislation like this … The reading was especially painful since this reform sausage is stuffed with more gristle than meat …

– It authorizes Federal Reserve banks to provide as much as $4 trillion in emergency funding the next time Wall Street crashes. So much for “no-more-bailouts” talk. That is more than twice what the Fed pumped into markets this time around. The size of the fund makes the bribes in the Senate’s health-care bill look minuscule.

– The legislation does create a council of regulators to spot risks to the financial system and big financial firms. Unfortunately this group is made up of folks who missed the problems that led to the current crisis.

– Don’t worry, this time regulators will have better tools. Six months after being created, the council will report to Congress on “whether setting up an electronic database” would be a help. Maybe they’ll even get to use that Internet thingy.

– The bill also allows regulators to “prohibit any incentive-based payment arrangement.”

– Since Congress isn’t cutting jobs, why not add a few more. The bill calls for more than a dozen agencies to create a position called “Director of Minority and Women Inclusion.” People in these new posts will be presidential appointees. I thought too-big-to-fail banks were the pressing issue. Turns out it’s diversity, and patronage.

– Best of all, the bill contains a provision that, in the event of another government request for emergency aid to prop up the financial system, debate in Congress be limited to just 10 hours.

It is stories like this that make me doubt the future greatness of our nation. With miscreants like Frank in power, we move farther from Constitutional government every day.

Barbara Boxer Subsidizing Relatives With Campaign Contributions – RedState

Senator Barbara Boxer (Communist-CA) has diverted nearly half a million in contributions from her political action committee to her son’s political consulting firm from 2001 to 2009, according to Federal Election Commission (FEC) filings.

Boxer and Associates, owned by son Douglas Boxer, has in the last 8 years profited to the tune of $497,409.17, $36,000 of which was from last year alone as the politically-vulnerable Boxer readies for a contentious reelection campaign in the fall. These $36,000 in fees are supplementary to the $141,000 Boxer’s leadership PAC awarded her son in 2008 for fundraising consulting.

The subject of a 2007 Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) exposé on the practice of politicians using campaign funds to employ relatives, Boxer insists on keeping it in the family–with expenditures to her son’s firm the highest among all others for the 2010 cycle–despite concerns from constituents and watchdog groups.

Renewing interest in Senator Boxer’s family emoluments, the young Boxer Tuesday sent an email requesting supporters donate to his mother’s campaign “because she always wanted to make things better for our family.”

Carly Fiorina campaign spokeswoman Julie Soderlund sounded the alarm and questioned if the young Boxer was once again profiting from his mother’s sizable campaign war chest.

“Doug Boxer wasn’t kidding when he signed off this letter to donors by saying ‘our entire family is so grateful for your strong support’ – he’s grateful more than anyone since he’s been lining his pockets with hundreds of thousands of dollars thanks to his mother’s long career in politics,” Soderlund said in a statement.

Another Kick In The Groin For Al Gore And His Global Warming Alarmist Cult

No Rise Of Atmospheric Carbon Dioxide Fraction In Past 160 Years, New Research Finds – Science Daily

Most of the carbon dioxide emitted by human activity does not remain in the atmosphere, but is instead absorbed by the oceans and terrestrial ecosystems. In fact, only about 45 percent of emitted carbon dioxide stays in the atmosphere.

However, some studies have suggested that the ability of oceans and plants to absorb carbon dioxide recently may have begun to decline and that the airborne fraction of anthropogenic carbon dioxide emissions is therefore beginning to increase.

Many climate models also assume that the airborne fraction will increase. Because understanding of the airborne fraction of carbon dioxide is important for predicting future climate change, it is essential to have accurate knowledge of whether that fraction is changing or will change as emissions increase.

To assess whether the airborne fraction is indeed increasing, Wolfgang Knorr of the Department of Earth Sciences at the University of Bristol reanalyzed available atmospheric carbon dioxide and emissions data since 1850 and considers the uncertainties in the data.

In contradiction to some recent studies, he finds that the airborne fraction of carbon dioxide has not increased either during the past 150 years or during the most recent five decades.

The research is published in Geophysical Research Letters.

Rasmussen: Obamacare Disapproval At New High – Weekly Standard

Rasmussen’s health-care polling results since Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid orchestrated the Christmas Eve vote are full of undeniably bad news for Democrats. In roughly ascending order of bad news (if one is a Democrat – aka Communist)…

Likely voters oppose Obamacare by more than the (18-point) margin by which Ronald Reagan beat Walter Mondale: 58 percent to 39 percent.

There are far more likely voters who “strongly” oppose Obamacare (46 percent) than there are likely voters who support it even “somewhat” (39 percent).

Only 24 percent of likely voters think that the quality of health care would get better under Obamacare, while 54 percent think it would get worse — a gap of 30 percent.

Only 13 percent of likely voters think that the cost of health would go down under Obamacare, while 63 percent think it would rise — a gap of 50 percent.

Seniors oppose Obamacare by more than 2 to 1: 63 percent to 31 percent.

And the worst news of all for Democrats (Communists)

Independents oppose Obamacare by the head-turning tally of 66 percent to 28 percent.

Yes, Arnold, Democrats lie!

California’s governor foolishly believed the utopian BS Reid, and Pelosi sold him. Now, possibly too late, he realizes the price of “the fundamental right to health care”

Now, he is opposed to the current bills and claims Democrats lied to him. Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger is reaping what he sowed by supporting the Democrats health care reform. The latest bill will raise California’s already sky high deficit by another $3 or more billion per year.

In a letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Schwarzenegger wrote that the legislation would create a “crushing new burden” for a state with a whopping $20.7 billion budget deficit.

“When asked for my support, I was assured that federal legislation would not increase costs to California or include new unfunded mandates,” Schwarzenegger wrote. “Unfortunately, under nearly every scenario we can predict, the federal health care reform legislation being debated would cost California’s General Fund an additional $3 billion to $4 billion annually.”

That’s right Arnie, Marxism is not free, it is a terrible burden. But hey, look on the bright side, at least you win my Marxist Moron Award for today for buying the BS the Dems are pushing.

Yes, Cuba is still a Stalinist Hell hole

Babalu Blog does a wonderful job of reporting the side of Cuba that Leftists in America refuse to take note of. You know the side where there is no freedom!

It’s December 30th, 2009 and not only are there still human rights violations in Cuba and a complete lack of basic civil liberties, but there sre still routine round-ups of those with dissenting voices, beatings, harassments, tourism apartheid, government imposed poverty, indoctrination of children, government imposed separation of families, and worst of all, people who ignore, overlook and justify these for their own personal agendas, the humanity of the Cuban people be damned.

Even China understands tax cuts better than Obama!

Yemen goes after al-Qaeda

As Ed Morrissey suggests, Yemen is in a situaltion much like Pakistan in regards to AQ. They know either they will try to smash AQ, which will be unpopular, with many Yemenis, or we will do it. Ed also makes a crucial point that these assaults are much about show, and eventually, it will be up to us to take action.

Yemen finds itself in a difficult position, somewhat akin to Pakistan’s.  The radical Islamists have plenty of sympathy from Yemenis, mainly for their anti-Saudi activities in a nation that resents its larger and much richer neighbor and especially resents a border settlement that produced Osama bin Laden’s radicalism in the first place.  They also know that the US, as an ally of the Saudis and of Israel, is only slightly more popular than the plague in Yemen at the best of times.  Attacking AQ means generating more opposition to the Yemeni government, already unstable enough as it is.

Unfortunately, the alternative for Yemen is to have the US conduct its own attacks on AQ strongholds — and we still may do it anyway, if the Yemenis can’t clean up their own country.  After several years of being asleep to the threat in Yemen, the American public wants action to defeat AQ in its new and old stronghold in the wilds of a nation that could be considered close to a failed state.   The existence of Anwar al-Awlaki and his apparent involvement in two successive terrorist attacks in the US over the last few weeks has made action inevitable, and if Yemen punts it to the US, they will be in worse shape domestically than if they do it themselves.

All of this means we should take any action with a large, Lot’s Wife-sized grain of salt.  We’re much more likely to see a “usual suspects” approach, taking out a few low-level people for show while Yemen largely leaves the rest of AQ alone.  We had better be prepared to address Yemen in the same manner as we do Waziristan and the NWFP in Pakistan.

I was listening yesterday to a “Progessive” station here in Dallas, and the hosts were ripping into Joe Lieberman for suggesting an American military response in Yemen. I am not sure what these folks would have us do. We have a duty to do everything we can to protect our nation and its citizens, yet, the “progessives” would rather have planes blown up. killing hundreds of Americans than use our military to strike terrorists it seems.

Michelle Malkin wonders why Obama is still in Hawaii. I gotta say, it does not matter so much to me where he is, I worry where his head is. I believe his cluelessness is no worse in Hawaii than in DC. He ought to be leading on this, but, is not so far.

Like Michelle, Eric Holder’s past regarding Yemeni detainees at Gitmo deeply concerns me. Check out what  Michelle says at the end of the clip.

Economic Stimulus – $50k For Tennis Courts In Montana – Radio Voice

Another symptom of the disease. The Montana Reinvestment Act – funded directly by federal stimulus dollars – has provided almost $50,000 towards a project in Bozeman, Mont. to install new tennis courts in a city park.

Nothing new I know, just another completely unconstitutional project funding by the federal government.

Federal cash is supposed to be used to fund general welfare projects. Up until the FDR New Deal era, these general welfare projects needed to support everyone. As an example, a lighthouse at the entrance to the Chesapeake Bay may be a local project, but it was in support of the general (national) welfare since shipping vessels with cargo destined for Baltimore would be distributed throughout the United States.

I’ve written about the Spending Clause before and encourage you to send that story to your friends and family. I’d love to see more comments on that post!

Back to the tennis courts, which will probably provide no more than 400 man hours of work over a two week period for the team building the courts. From the Bozeman Daily Chronicle.

The Bozeman City Commission authorized spending $49,140 in federal stimulus money on Monday to install new tennis courts at Bogert Park.

The new courts are likely to be ready in June, Parks and Cemetery Department Superintendent Thom White said.

Floridian Calls 911, Hoping For Ride To Bar – MSNBC

Authorities say a Florida man who called police dispatchers claiming that he had been beaten and shot at was hoping the tale would get him a ride to a bar.

Instead, 37-year-old Gregory J. Oras is facing charges of misusing the emergency call system and battery of a law enforcement officer.

The St. Petersburg Times said an arrest report says Oras called police dispatchers three times before his arrest early Tuesday in Oldsmar, northwest of Tampa. He told the dispatchers he had a broken nose and bleeding ears, and claimed people were shooting at him.

Authorities say he was actually looking for a ride to another bar.

The report also says Oras kicked a Pinellas County sheriff’s deputy in the knees and a Taser was used to subdue him before he was arrested.
