Your Daley Douchebags are
Those damned White folks at MSNBC! Michelle Malkin offers the story
There he goes again. Racial bean-counter Chris Matthews, of the indelibly white MSNBC, is attacking conservatives for stoking “white tribalism:”
On the Sunday, December 13, syndicated Chris Matthews Show, as he ended the show with words of praise for Morgan Freeman’s latest film, Invictus, and its depiction of Nelson Mandela uniting blacks and whites in South Africa in the 1990s, host Matthews referred to “white tribalism” having been stirred up in America, and showed clips of anti-Obama protesters.
Matthews: “In this world of ours today, it seems that any idiot – almost any idiot can rally the forces of tribalism, including white tribalism in this country. You can do it with a frown or a smile – easiest thing in the world to rile people back to their roots, get them thinking with all the rage of their grandparents.”
Oh that Chris CRAZY LEGS Matthews!
Your daily dose of Liberal tolerance
They have a mean streak a mile wide!
Not content to call upon the Susan G. Komen Foundation to fire Hadassah Lieberman, Jane Hamsher now is trying to organize secondary pressure on the Komen Foundation through various celebrities who are involved with the organization. The online Petition states:
As I said before, it’s a shame that the “public option” advocates are willing to politicize breast cancer reasearch, while at the same time putting another nail in the feminist coffin by singling out a woman for professional retribution primarily because of her husband.
What a bunch of sorry bastards!
North Korean arms shipmemnt seized in Thailand
North Korea sending arms to Hamas? Hezbollah? To Pakistan?
Thirty-five tons of North Korean weapons, including missiles, rocket-propelled grenades and explosives, have been seized from a Russian transporter plane that stopped to refuel in Bangkok during an apparent arms run to Asia.
The huge cache, uncovered by Thai authorities on a tip-off from the US, was allegedly being shipped illegally to ”a south Asian country” to help North Korea beat United Nations sanctions on arms trading.
There was a suggestion yesterday from the Thai Prime Minister, Abhisit Vejjajiva, that the arms may have been bound for terrorist organisations.
”We are not yet clear why they were transporting these weapons … security and intelligence services are continuing to investigate … It is not yet clear if this is terrorist activity,” he said.
Ed Morrissey takes a look at where these weapons were headed
Impoverished North Korea earns more than $US1 billion ($1.09 billion) a year selling weapons, but the UN banned it from moving any arms in or out of the country after it conducted a nuclear test in May.
Who else buys North Korean munitions, especially missiles and explosives? UN nations are supposed to abide by the sanctions regime placed on Pyongyang after its nuclear tests. The only entities that need resupply on missiles and explosives and which can’t purchase such materiel openly are terrorist organizations.
Thailand has arrested the men on the airplane, who insisted that the cargo was benign. None of the five are from North Korea. Instead, the crew was comprised of four Kazakhs and a Belarussian, who flew the plane empty from Russia to Pyongyang, which may create even more international intrigue on this story. They could wind up with life imprisonment for illegal munitions dealing, but it’s a lot more likely that the Thais and the US will use that threat to gain more intel on Kim Jong-il’s illegal arms dealing.
Cook report: Number of “likely” Democratic House seats down to … 218
Via AllahPundit
A bare majority. Actually, there are only 39 seats listed in the “lean Democratic” and “Democratic toss-up” columns, but as Taegan Goddard points out, if you toss in Bart Gordon’s retirement today in a very winnable GOP district you’re down to the magic number. But never mind that. Follow the first link to Cook and skim the column of “likely Democratic” seats, which are considered safe-ish, to see how many come from districts with a Republican-leaning PVI. If you see multiple retirements in that column — and the NRCC thinks you very well might — then suddenly a bunch of seats are in play on top of the 40 that are already shaky. Marc Ambinder looks ahead:
But the biggest psychological driver of congressional retirements is the perception that the next election won’t be worth the personal/political/ego rewards of the 2010-2011 congressional cycle. It’s not so much that Democrats expect to be in the minority, although it is possible. It’s that Democrats of a certain type — John Tanner, Bart Gordon, Brian Baird — expect to be in a narrower, more liberal majority that forces them to take harder votes — a majority where the new Republicans elected from open district seats are suddenly invested with major bargaining powers.
There is a definite power shift on the way. This is obvious by how hard Reid and Pelosi are pushing their radical agenda. They want to grab as much power as they possibly can. My take is that they would be wise to reign in theur power lust now. They might just cut their losses. Apparently, though, their judgement is being outweighed by their thirst for control of America’s economy, health care, etc.
Just another example of how radical they are.
Just to confirm, climate change is still a crock of………
Look, London’s Daily Mail has a huge report on the CRU hacker scandal, “SPECIAL INVESTIGATION: Climate change emails row deepens as Russians admit they DID come from their Siberian server.”
It’s devasting, as usual. But the left’s radical extremists continue to lie and suppress dissent, hoping to drown out rationality, most recently with this pathetic post at Whiskey Fire. Calling conservatives “monkeys,” Thers joins the Charles Johson/Andrew Sullivan “science” experts to “debunk” what now widely considered the most damning scientific scandal in decades:Scientists’ work is subject to peer review, and then investigations based upon the theft of their private correspondence. Wingnut Internets denialists get to do whatever they want, including blatantly dishonest stuff like Deep Climate documents. And the rules of Modern Journalism and Civil Debate demand that we look at Both Sides Equally. Well, fuck that.
Right.“Climate of Extremes: Global Warming Science They Don’t Want You to Know“:
You know those emails you get promising millions of dollars? Al Gore’s version of man-made climate change is just like that!
Your question of the day
American Glob notes that criticizing Obama will get you called a RAAAAACIST by the Left. But why can’t we call them anti-Semites for attacking Joe Lieberman? Hmmmm
I’m just asking because it seems to me that every single time someone criticizes President Obama, you guys scream racism.
Yet you seem to have no problem targeting and calling for punishments of Joe Lieberman or even his wife for not toeing the liberal party line.
By your own rules, doesn’t that make you Anti-Semites?
As a student of the world, I am eager to know…
How are these things different?
Of course, the Left is protected by their ultra-convenient ideology here. Their principles are super flexible you see. They only stand up when the Left wants them to stand up. The left can do or say anything, and then when the Right does anything simlar, it is time for Fake Outrage Syndrome!
Like I said, their ideoogy is SUPER-FLEXIBLE!
CMMS Writing Obamacare’s Obituary – American Thinker
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMMS) may eventually prove to be instrumental in bringing Obamacare to a well deserved end.
Writing at the Heritage blog Morning Bell, Conn Carroll:
Last month, Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) rammed through her version of Obamacare almost a week before the agency in charge of running Medicare and Medicaid, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMMS), could issue its non-partisan and independent analysis of the legislation. And for supporters of the President’s plan, it’s a good thing she did. The CMMS report eviscerated almost every single promise the President has made about his health care plan.
According to that report, Obamacare: 1) raises health care costs; 2) causes millions of Americans to lose their current health care coverage; 3) forces millions of Americans to pay fines and still receive no health insurance; 4) causes millions of seniors to lose their Medicare Advantage plans; 5) places millions of Americans on welfare; 6) jeopardizes Medicare access for all seniors; 7) worsens health care access for the poor.
This past Friday, CMMS issued another report, this time on Majority Leader Harry Reid’s (D-NV) version of Obamacare and the verdict was in many ways worse: 1) health care costs would rise by $234 billion; 2) 17 million Americans would be forced out of their existing health insurance; 3) 19 million Americans would pay $29 billion in taxes/fines and receive no health care in return; 4) 33% of all Medicare Advantage customers would lose their health care plan; 5) 18 million Americans would be put on welfare; 6) the $493 billion in Medicare cuts would force 20% of Medicare providers to become unprofitable thus jeopardizing access to care for all seniors; and 7) the explosion in Medicaid recipients would exacerbate existing health care access problems for the poor.
All of these drawbacks have been brought to our attention before, just never in one place nor issued by such a non-partisan body.
This is truly insane for the Democrats to continue pushing this monstrosity in the face of such extraordinarily dire effects. They must have an electoral suicide wish. More likely, they are waking up to the fact that the bill they have now is just not going to make it and they will have to scale back their plans drastically in order to get something passed.
That is, unless Obama forces them over the cliff at which point he insures not only their destruction but makes his own re-election much more problematic.
40 Congressmen Call On Special Ops Commander To Dismiss Case Brought Against Navy SEALs Over Alleged Punching Of Terrorist – CNS
Forty members of Congress are calling on the military commander who ordered the court martial of three Navy SEALs over the alleged punching of a terrorist to dismiss the charges.
The letter, circulated by Rep. Dan Burton (R-Ind.), was sent Thursday to Army Major Gen. Charles T. Cleveland, commander of Special Operation Command Central. Gen. Cleveland ordered the prosecution of the three SEALs.
“In our opinion, prosecutorial discretion should have been exercised,” the 40 congressmen said. “Failing that, we respectfully and strongly urge you to exercise your leadership authority, stop the impending court martial and exonerate these men.”
Earlier, 33 House Members had signed a letter to Defense Secretary Robert Gates asking him to intervene in the case. That letter had been circulated by Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-Calif.). Military law experts told CNSNews.com, however, that the Defense secretary’s ability to intervene in a court martial could be limited.
U.S. congressmen representing two of the SEALs’ home districts signed the letters. Only Republican members signed the letters.
Rep. Bob Latta, who represents the Ohio’s 5th Congressional District that includes Perrysburg, Ohio, signed both of the letters. Perryburg is the hometown of one of the three SEALs, 24-year-old Petty Officer Second Class Mathew McCabe.
McCabe was part of the SEAL team that captured Ahmed Hashim Abed, the alleged architect of the murder of four Blackwater USA security guards in Fallujah, Iraq in 2004. The bodies of the four Americans were mutilated, burned and hanged from a bridge over the Euphrates River.
McCabe has been charged with assault for allegedly punching Abed in the midsection. He has also been charged with dereliction of duty for allegedly failing to protect Abed and with allegedly making a false statement by denying the incident. Two other SEALs, Petty Officer Julio Huertas, 28, and Petty Officer Jonathon Keefe, 25, have been charged with alleged dereliction of duty for not protecting Abed and for allegedly making a false statement. Huertas has also been charged with allegedly impeding an investigation.
Rep. Latta will have more to say on the matter in the near future, his spokesman Bob Popp told CNSNews.com Friday.
Keefe is from Yorktown, Va., part of the state’s 1st Congressional District represented by Rep. Rob Wittman, who signed Rep. Hunter’s letter to Gates.
“After hearing the case of these three Navy SEALs, one of which is a constituent of mine, I and many of my colleagues were concerned with the message this would send to our soldiers, sailors, Marines, and airmen who serve in harms way every day,” Wittman told CNSNews.com in a statement.
“These service members often risk their lives in dangerous and uncertain situations, and in this case, they captured one of the most wanted terrorists in Iraq. I am eagerly awaiting the secretary of defense’s response to the letter I signed in defense of these SEALs,” Wittman continued. “While I do not believe that the prosecution of these men is warranted, I do have full faith and confidence that the military justice system will bring all the facts to light.”
Huertas is from Blue Island, Ill., part of that state’s 1st Congressional District, which is represented by Rep. Bobby Rush, a Democrat (Communist). Rush did not sign either of the letters.
Obama’s Ambassador To El Salvador “Cohabitated” With Cuban Spy – Weekly Standard
Andrew Breitbart’s Big Hollywood puts two and two together:
Today, the Obama White House announced the nomination of Mari Del Carmen Aponte as U.S. Ambassador to El Salvador. It is not Ms. Aponte’s first brush with an ambassadorship. In 1998, President Clinton nominated her to be Ambassador to the Dominican Republic. She was forced to withdraw her name from consideration over allegations of ties to the Cuban spy agency.
Yes, she “cohabitated” with an agent of the Cuban spy service, DGI. Worse, DGI tried to recruit Aponte as an asset, and yet when the FBI came around to do a background check, Aponte refused to cooperate, “saying that since she was not seeking a permanent White House position she was not subject to a background check.”
A former State Department official who worked with Aponte passes along this assessment:
“I spent dozens of hours with Ms. Aponte when I was desk officer for [...]. she was a nice person but not to the sort to be an ambassador. Here is the administration checking the political box, dredging up a tarnished candidate and delivering a political assignment in a tough country that needs a pro to ride the waves and work to counterbalance the influence of the FMLN and the Chavistas. Underscores the lack of any credible policy for Central America, let alone for the Americas.”
And after this administration’s handling of the situation in Honduras, who can argue with that?
Update: A friend emails to point out how short-sighted I’m being:
Don’t you see the administration’s genius? Isn’t it useful to have someone with close ties to the DGI working with a government that will also be run by the DGI? It’s almost like cutting out the middle man.
Obama’s Approval Rating Plummets To 44 Percent
The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Monday shows that 24% of the nation’s voters Strongly Approve of the way that (Chairman) Barack Obama is performing his role as President. Forty-two percent (42%) Strongly Disapprove giving (Chairman) Obama a Presidential Approval Index rating of -18.
That’s a one point improvement from yesterday when (Chairman) Obama’s Approval Index rating fell to the lowest level yet recorded. Prior to the past three days, the Approval Index had never fallen below -15 during (Chairman) Obama’s time in office.
As the health care plan struggles in the Senate, public opposition remains stable. Fifty-six percent (56% ) oppose the plan working its way through Congress while just 40% favor it. In Nevada, the health care bill is causing problems for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s bid for re-election.
The Presidential Approval Index is calculated by subtracting the number who Strongly Disapprove from the number who Strongly Approve. It is updated daily at 9:30 a.m. Eastern.
Overall, 44% of voters say they at least somewhat approve of the President’s (Chairman’s) performance. That’s the lowest level yet measured for this president. Previously, his overall approval rating had fallen to 45% twice, once in early September and once in late November.
Fifty-five percent (55%) now disapprove.
Ingram rolls to Heisman
A first for Alabama, and sheer joy for Stacy McCain.
UPDATE 9:25 p.m.: CNN: “Ingram is the first Alabama player to win the Heisman.” When the mighty Crimson Tide defense makes Colt McCoy cry the tears of unfathomable sadness, I want to be there to see it in person. Hit the tip jar!
PREVIOUSLY (6:50 p.m.): The ceremony starts at 8:50 ET. If Mark Ingram doesn’t win — especially if he’s cheated out of the award by one of the two white quarterbacks from inferior schools — I will personally contact Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton and the NAACP to demand that they protest this blatant racial injustice.
Inferior? The Gators? Hmmm, the last 20 years in the SEC looks like this. Bama one national title, OK, two when they beast Texas. Seven division titles, three SEC titles, and one Heisman. The Gators? THREE national titles, also played for another, 10 division titles, nine SEC titles, and two Heisman winners. Oh, and also the winningest program the past two decades, and against Bama head to head? 9-5.
Inferior? What a RAAAAACIST thing to say. Now, go beat Texas Mr. McCain!
If Notre Dame joined the Big Ten, what would they call it?
Lance is wondering about the possiblity of a 12th Big Ten team.
The Big Ten wants a 12th member:
Wisconsin athletic director Barry Alvarez says the Big Ten will soon make a more aggressive push toward adding a 12th member.
Speaking to Wisconsin’s athletic board on Friday, Alvarez, the former longtime Badgers football coach, said the conference already has investigated possibilities for expansion “from all over the country.” And though he places no timetable on the search, Alvarez thinks conference commissioner Jim Delany will respond to a group of athletic directors and coaches who want expansion.
…A 12th team would allow the Big Ten to split into divisions and hold a conference championship game. The Big Ten typically ends its football season two weeks before the other BCS conferences, though the addition of a permanent bye week in 2010 will shrink the gap by a week.
The “downside” to a conference championship game is: say you’ve got an undefeated team that is in line for the national championship. If that team loses the conference championship game, they get knocked out of national contention. There’s a lot of prestige and money in the national championship, so that’s bad.
It would be great to see the Big Ten, which now has 11 teams, add a 12th team. That would make it almost like a real college football conference. But, what would they call it? Stick with Big Ten? They stuck with that after adding Penn State, team number 11, The Big 12 is already taken. Hmmm.
How about the Cheese Head Conference? Or the Brat and Bad Beer Conference? Wait! I know! The Big Troglodyte Conference! With Lance as the commisioner!
Why does the Left continue to embrace thugs?
Weasel Zippers has the latest example of the Left loving on some ruthless dictators.
Someone asked me the other day, why the Left seems to excuse thugs, and even embrace thugs like Castro, Mugabe, Ahmadinejad, etc.? Simply out, because the Leftists, ARE THUGS! They do not want liberty, or human rights, or equality. They care nothing about “the people”. They are simply thugs.
How dare the peasants challenge the Obamassiah!
Matthew Yglesias does not use those words, but, you get the basic idea
The smarter elements in Washington DC are starting to pick up on the fact that it’s not tactical errors on the part of the president that make it hard to get things done, it’s the fact that the country has become ungovernable. For example, here’s Steven Pearlstein on minority leader Mitch McConnell:
The bad Mitch, as most Americans know by now, is the charmless and shameless hypocrite who offers up a steady stream of stale ideology and snarky talking points but almost never a constructive idea. McConnell has decided that the only way for Republicans to win is for President Obama to lose, and he will use lies, threats and all manner of parliamentary subterfuge to obstruct the president’s programs.
Pearlstein contrasts McConnell with the good Mitch, Mitch Daniels, “a principled but practical conservative who respects the intelligence of voters and would rather get something done than score political points.”
One can only imagine how Republicans could have reshaped health-reform legislation in the Senate if it had been Mitch Daniels rather than Mitch McConnell running the show, striking deals with the White House and moderate Democrats to win concessions in exchange for a pledge not to filibuster.
Ah, so, it is better to “get something done”, even if you believe it is the wrong thing? It is better to ignore your constituents, and the Constitution, than to fight for them? According to Matthew Yglesias it seems so. Those darned Americans, and their elected representatives! How dare they reject ObamaCare, or anything else the Obamassiah, Reid, or Pelosi comes up with. What do they think this is? A constitutional republic or something?
