Your daily dose of Leftist tolerance

Those Leftist “intellectuals” are SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO tolerant! They just LOOOOOOOOOVE diversity!

Robin L. West, a feminist legal theorist” (translation: Radical Lesbo) affiliated with the Georgetown University Law Center, has published an essay titled, “The Harms of Homeschooling” in the University of Maryland’s Philosophy & Public Policy Quarterly. West disparages home-schoolers as ignorant Christian trailer trash, and calls for … you guessed it… extensive Government oversight of home-schooling parents.

The husbands and wives in these families feel themselves to be under a religious compulsion to have large families, a homebound and submissive wife and mother who is responsible for the schooling of the children, and only one breadwinner. These families are not living in romantic, rural, self-sufficient farmhouses; they are in trailer parks, 1,000 square foot homes, houses owned by relatives, and some, on tarps in fields or parking lots.

The statistics that West uses to support this depiction of home-schoolers are… not cited anywhere in the article. But she has anecdotal evidence consisting of… the way she imagines home-schooling families to be. She also claims that home-schooled children are a drag on their communities because the poor quality of their education leaves them unable to contribute economically. This list says otherwise.

There is so much love isn’t there! Tell you what Robin West, I am going to share some love with you. I am naming you the Marxist Moron AND Daley Douchebag winner for today!

Aparently, Robin was public schooled because she is incapable of even doing a basic internet search. If she had done so, she would have found studies like the one at this site: http://epaa.asu.edu/epaa/v7n8/. This study found, in short “the achievement test scores of this group of home school students are exceptionally high–the median scores were typically in the 70th to 80th percentile; 25% of home school students are enrolled one or more grades above their age-level public and private school peers;”
With research skills like hers, Robin should be working at a climate research institute somewhere.

Yet another school to strike off the list for my daughter to attend college. This is a rhetorical question, of course but: whatever happened to honest intellectual discourse and research in higher education? The only good thing about loony screeds like West’s are that they continue to offend and alienate a majority of the electorate. My kids aren’t homeschooled; I’d have done so in a heartbeat however, given the opportunity—I’ve seen the curriculum at “really good” grade schools in Chicago suburbs, and I remain unimpressed.
Of course, at least sending them to school gets ‘em out of the trailer a few hours a day, so I can cook up some meth in the backyard still, and spraypaint racist graffiti on my garage—after all, I AM a right wing conservative….!

Heh. We’ve homeschooled both our kids from age four on. They’re 17 and 15 now. My husband is the primary homeschool teacher. He has a PhD in history (primary specialty: Byzantine history) from Harvard University. Under his tutelage, the boys have learned Latin and Greek along with world history, literature, physics, chemistry, and so on. They routinely score in the 99th percentile on the California Achievement Test. The older boy recently aced the PSAT with 99th-percentile scores — all above 70, with 78 on the writing component. (Highest possible score on each component is 80.)

But hey, we are conservative practicing Catholics, and we live in rural North Carolina, so I guess that means we qualify as the unwashed scum of the earth. Save our kids from the likes of us, O All-Wise Government…please!

Diane, claiming her Proud Mom bragging rights :)
