Whoa! Yet another Dem cutting and running?

This would be good news if true!

VailSpot reports that Senator Barbara Mikulski (D-Maryland) will soon announce that she will not seek reelection.

Mrs. Mikulski seriously fractured her right ankle last fall just prior to Edward M. Kennedy’s death. Due to the severity of the fracture, she had to have open reduction surgery, that included the insertion of pins, as well as the use of special surgical boots, during recovery. She had tried to arrive in time for Mr. Kennedy’s funeral but was turned away.

Her recovery has been exceptionally slow and she is evidently still in a great deal of pain. Reportedly, she has told her physician that she does not desire to seek reelection. Additionally, friends and family have been saying in the near future she will announce her retirement. Because of the very slow recovery, she has been forced to use a wheelchair, a walker or a cane in order to get around.

One of her complaints is that the health insurance that is provided for Congress is “poor” with high deductibles and “limitations” on coverage. My contact tells me that she told an aide that she should have inserted in the ObamaCare bill an amendment to improve Congressional health insurance!

Bye Bye Babs?

Why you should read The Camp of the Saints

The guy running that fine blog, Bob Belvedere has lots of cool content. I always enjoy his Spot on Quote of the Day which he awards to Russ of That’s Right who sums up Obama very well

Think about it. There’s little credible argument left that the man isn’t an inexperienced, immature, neo-Marxist ideologue who is in way over his head. Anybody who tries to argue otherwise is either stupid or lying. There is no third choice. And most of the time I don’t feel sorry for him because, as far as I know, nobody twisted his arm or put a gun to his head to make him run for President in such a precarious situation. But the other side of that coin is that someone had to vote for him for him to win. Nearly 67 million “someone’s” did just that in 2008 and put this waif in the White House. He wouldn’t be there if they hadn’t.

And it’s for that reason that I really do feel bad for Obama sometimes. If 10 million of those people took a measly five minutes to study the candidates, perhaps he, and we, wouldn’t be in the disastrous situation in which we find ourselves. It was his conscious decision to run for President when he should have known he wasn’t up for the job. But it was the 67 million idiots who voted for him that made that fact clear to the Country and the World at large.

The other reason I occasionally feel sorry for Obama is that he’s not a learner. I don’t think he was ever a learner before he became President and it’s all too clear after a year in office that he’s not one now. Any sensible, rational person learns three things from looking at and studying the political philosophy best characterized as “collectivism” and that is that, 1) it didn’t work, 2) it will never work, and 3) most importantly, it cannot work. Barack Obama is simply an absorber and a regurgitator; he is not a learner. His comments in his early life, on the campaign and during his first year in office are literally plagiarized from any collegiate socialist textbook. There’s no learning involved. There’s no contemplation involved. There is only a desperate need to believe in something that he hadn’t found anywhere else.

YES! YES YES! I was listening to Michael Medved the other day, who was aghast that anyone would question the intellect of Obama. Not that Medved is a big fan of Obama or anything, he just feels that challenging the “Obama is ultra-smart” propoganda makes Conservatives who do it look bad.

Sorry Michael, but there are several aspects to intelligence. And learning from history, from your mistakes AND the mistakes of others ia part of that. Obama obviously fails in that department. Medved also said that Obama must be intelligent, after all he did teach Constitutional law for years. Hmmm, I wonder, frankly, what the Hell he was teaching. We see first-hand his take on the Constitution. And again, with apologies to Mr. Medved, Obama either does understand the Constitution, or he just ignortes what it does  mean. No man who has studied the Constitution would push Cap and Trade, the massive spending, universal health care, and the punitive taxes Obama has and does. Obama’s voting record on gun rights also is deeply disturbing. Obviously, his view of the right keep and bear arms is far from that of the Founders.

Sorry Mr.Medved, but questioning the intellect of Obama is not a bad move at all. Frankly, the folks who need to rethink this are those who keep parroting the “Obama is the smartest guy in the room” line! Obama is smart in ways certainly. But in learning from history, common sense, he fails. And compared to the Founders? Do not even go there. They were wise men, Obama? Not so much!

A way to help the economy, fix the deficit, and help America be more energy independent

Bluegrass Pundit has a fascinating look at just what the “Do not Drill in America” Democrats are costing this nation.

The above map of no drilling zones says it all. Most of the best places to drill for have been put off limits by democrats. This ‘no drilling’ policy will cost the US $2.36 trillion over the next two decades.

Bloomberg reported:

Restrictions on oil and gas drilling will cost the U.S. economy $2.36 trillion through 2029, according to a study requested by state utility regulators and paid for in part by industry-sponsored groups.

Drilling restrictions in Alaska’s Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and off the U.S. coastline are blocking access to about nine years’ worth of U.S. oil and gas consumption, according to the report. Among sponsors are the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners and the industry-funded Gas Technology Institute, of Des Plaines, Illinois.

Former President George W. Bush and Congress ended bans in 2008 on drilling along the U.S. coastline. The Interior Department hasn’t acted to open the newly available areas, including offshore Alaska and on the U.S. Outer Continental Shelf in the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. Congress has kept the Arctic refuge off limits.

The next time we hear Obama whining about the deficit, revenues, the economy, etc. REMEMBER what HIS PARTY is doing to help. NOTHING! Instead they are hurting America! Just imagine if our media would get off their lazy, biased asses and press Obama, Pelosi, Reid and the rest on this.

*VIDEOS* Alabama Professor Who Shot Colleagues, Murdered Brother In 1986 And Was Let Go; Also A Suspect In 1993 Harvard Bombing Attempt

Amy Bishop shot and killed her brother in 1986 during an argument in their childhood home, but was released for unknown reasons, in spite of the damning evidence against her.

She was also a suspect in the 1993 attempted bombing of a Harvard University Medical School professor.

‘Oddball’ Portrait Of Amy Bishop Emerges – Boston Herald

As authorities searched for clues into what could have sent a University of Alabama neurobiology professor on an alleged killing spree, friends and family yesterday described Braintree native Amy Bishop as an awkward introvert on the brink of losing her teaching job.

Bishop’s husband, James Anderson, told the Herald his wife had been fighting the university for over a year about a tenure denial, and several months ago received a final decision. She was upset, but not overly emotional, approaching her appeal “like a game of chess,” he said.

Police in Huntsville, Ala., charged Bishop, 44, with capital murder after she allegedly opened fire on six colleagues at a faculty meeting Friday, killing three. Afterward, she calmly called her husband and asked him to pick her up as if nothing had happened, said police Chief Henry Reyes.

“She was an oddball – just not very sociable,” said Sylvia Fluckiger, a former lab technician who worked with Bishop in 1993.

Bishop acknowledged at the time being questioned in the bombing attempt of a Harvard medical doctor evaluating her on doctorate work, a professor with whom Bishop was known to quarrel, Fluckiger said.

Reyes confirmed he is working with the FBI to learn more about why Bishop was a suspect in the attempted bombing of Dr. Paul Rosenberg, who received a double-pipe bomb in the mail on Dec. 19, 1993. He ran from his Newton home with his wife, escaping without injury. The bomb never exploded.

“She was quite cavalier about it,” Fluckiger said of Bishop’s description of her interview with police. She said Bishop “grinned” as she described being asked by cops whether she’d ever taken stamps off an envelope and fastened them onto something else. “I cannot tell you what the grin meant,” Fluckiger said.

Seven years prior, Bishop shot her brother to death in Braintree in an incident that was ruled an accident at the time.

But Braintree police Chief Paul Frazier has raised questions about the handling of the case, and officials are investigating missing records in the 1986 death of 18-year-old Seth Bishop.

A classmate of Seth Bishop’s recalled yesterday that the boy, who was “painfully shy,” never talked about his older, only sibling.

“It was as if he was a complete stranger in her life. It seemed like a dysfunctional family. We just accepted them as being odd,” said the classmate, who spoke to the Herald on condition of anonymity.

Amy Bishop, he said, “wasn’t mean because she wasn’t someone you could get close to. She wasn’t an attractive girl, she didn’t have friends. She didn’t work at having friends. I think people probably, over time, learned to leave her alone.”

The Bishop household, he said, “was anything but a home… It was just a really dreary, dark place where there wasn’t a lot of love.”

Meanwhile, in an interview with the Chronicle of Higher Education, Anderson said he was searching for the “trigger” to his wife’s breakdown, and that he wondered whether an e-mail message – potentially in the form of a final tenure denial – might have upset her, because university higher-ups were known to send “nastygrams” on Fridays.

A family source said Bishop, a mother of four children – the youngest a third-grade boy – was a far-left political extremist who was “obsessed” with President Obama to the point of being off-putting.

Another Democrat Bites The Dust!

Citing partisan rancor in Congress, Indiana Sen. Evan Bayh, a Democrat, said today he will not seek a third term this year, opening up a potentially huge battleground in the conservative Hoosier State, The Indianapolis Star is reporting here.

Bayh has scheduled a press conference for 2 p.m. ET in Indianapolis.

Bayh, a moderate (aka leftist) who has never lost an election and occasionally flirted with running for president, was facing a challenge from Dan Coats, a former Republican senator. Analysts such as Cook Political Report had listed the race as leaning Bayh’s way and so his announcement comes as a surprise.

Over Twenty Killed In Rush Hour Train Smash – Sky News

Up to 25 people are feared dead after two trains collided head-on in snowy conditions on the outskirts of Brussels.

The accident happened just outside the station at Buizingen, nine miles southwest of the Belgian capital, at around 8.30am.

Several carriages turned onto their side.

One train was apparently heading from Quievrain to Liege and the other from Leuven to Braine-le-Comte.

Initial reports said at least 20 people were killed and many injured but no official figures were immediately available.

“The most recent information we have is that 20 people died,” the mayor of Buizingen Dirk Pieters said on Belgian radio.

He said he had got the information from emergency services at the scene.

Mud Carnival In Rio – Stuff

Near one of Brazil’s most traditional colonial towns, a bizarre Carnival craze erupts each year – a “parade” in which the only costume required is layers of thick, dark, sticky mud.

“I feel very primitive. You feel like running through the woods and doing war chants,” said 23-year-old Chris White, a tree surgeon from New Zealand who was covered in the earth-scented goo from head to toe.

He was one of hundreds of foreign tourists and Brazilians who flocked to a beach near the picturesque town of Paraty on Saturday to frolic in the soft blue-black mud which is said to have been used by indigenous Indians for medicinal purposes.

Young couples in swim suits decorate one another with the mud, writing their names or the names of their favorite football teams across their chest.

The more creative make skirts or crowns out of leaves and the romantic use flowers to add a splash of colour. “Warriors” covered in bush carrying sticks also make an entry on top of mud-covered horses.

Brennan: 20% Terrorist Recidivism Rate ‘Isn’t Bad’ – News Max

President Obama’s national security adviser, Gen. Jim Jones, defended his deputy on Sunday, saying he’s glad John Brennan is on his side and he agrees with his assessment that the United States can’t stop 100 percent of captured terrorists from returning to the field.

Brennan, the president’s top counterterrorism adviser, on Saturday compared the U.S. criminal recidivism rate of 50 percent to the one in five terrorists who are released to other nations and return to the battlefield.

“Twenty percent isn’t that bad,” Brennan said.

Nevada Police Officer Saved From Bullet By Badge – Yahoo News

A police officer’s badge may have saved his lifewhen it stopped a bullet during an exchange of gunfire in North Las Vegas.

Police say the 31-year-old officer was patrolling just before 10 p.m. Saturday when he heard shots being fired in an apartment complex.

While investigating, the officer came upon a person with a gun and opened fire. The officer returned fire and was hit. But the bullet hit the badge, and the officer suffered only minor injuries.

The person with the gun fled.

Police continued to search Sunday for the suspect, who might also be injured.

The injured police officer’s name was not immediately released.

Former Conservative Talk-Radio Host Hayworth To Launch GOP Primary Challenge To McCain – Washington Examiner

Former congressman and conservative talk-radio host J.D. Hayworth plans to kick off his campaign challenging Arizona Sen. John McCain on Monday.

Hayworth has scheduled a rally in Phoenix in the morning followed by a three-day statewide tour.

The primary showdown between two well-known Arizona Republicans promises to be the toughest re-election battle of McCain’s congressional career.

Conservatives in Arizona have long been skeptical of McCain, who carved out a niche as a maverick Senator working with Democrats on key issues.

But McCain has consistently evaded political threats from the right and lately has staked out solidly conservative positions.

Ordeal Of Human Ice Cube – Ananova

A magician is in hospital suffering from severe frostbite after spending more than 64 hours as a human ice cube to break a world endurance record.

Latvian illusionist Gennady Palychevsky, 40, spent 64 hours and 32 minutes in the six foot square ice cube in Moscow before signaling for help.

The event tops American magician David Blaine’s 63 hours in ice in New York’s Times Square 10 years ago.

Palychevsky – known as Mr Fix – in magic circles – staggered from the ice after his frozen ordeal and was rushed away by paramedics.

His horrified wife Jelena said: “The last night was the most difficult. Each hour we thought would be the last in the ice and at five in the morning we began panicking.

‘Muslim Mafia’ Suit Dismissed – WorldNetDaily

A federal judge has dismissed an attempt by the Council on American-Islamic Relations to re-file yet another lawsuit against Air Force special agent P. David Gaubatz and his son Chris, the father-and-son team that investigated and exposed the group’s terrorist ties.

Defense lawyers are hailing the decision as a victory over CAIR’s alleged plan to “chill” free speech critical of the organization through an avalanche of court cases and legal costs.

“We briefed, counter briefed, we spent thousands of dollars on the case,” said Daniel Horowitz, one of the three lawyers for the defense. “Only then did they file this new lawsuit, which would have effectively forced us to start all over.”

“But the new lawsuit didn’t have anything substantively new,” Horowitz told WND. “And yet, that’s their whole goal. They know they can’t win the case, but they can chill the First Amendment by making it so expensive to speak against them that no one can challenge Saudi-funded CAIR. In the end, they can just keep getting more and more money from overseas and burn out opposition with lawsuits.”

Obama’s New OIC Envoy Defended Activist Who Aided Terrorist Group – CNS

President Obama’s newly appointed envoy to the Organization of the Islamic Conference was quoted in 2004 as saying an American who aided a Palestinian terrorist group was the victim of “politically motivated persecutions” who was being used “to squash dissent.”

Rashad Hussain was quoted as telling a Muslim students’ event in Chicago that if U.S. Muslims did not speak out against the injustices taking place in America, then everyone’s rights would be in jeopardy.

The Washington Report on Middle East Affairs (WRMEA) cited Hussain as making the remarks in connection with Sami al-Arian, a university professor and activist sentenced in 2006 to more than four years in prison (including time already spent in custody) after he had pleaded guilty to conspiring to aid the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ).

The U.S. government designated the PIJ as a foreign terrorist organization in 1997, and in 2003, then Attorney-General John Ashcroft described it as “one of the most violent terrorist organizations in the world.”

The Ship of Climate Change Fools springs another leak

Via Wizbang comes this news from an interview the BBC did with climate scintist Phil Jones. The same Phil Jones who is at the center of “Climategate”

The academic at the centre of the ‘Climategate’ affair, whose raw data is crucial to the theory of climate change, has admitted that he has trouble ‘keeping track’ of the information.

Colleagues say that the reason Professor Phil Jones has refused Freedom of Information requests is that he may have actually lost the relevant papers.

Professor Jones told the BBC yesterday there was truth in the observations of colleagues that he lacked organisational skills, that his office was swamped with piles of paper and that his record keeping is ‘not as good as it should be’.

The data is crucial to the famous ‘hockey stick graph’ used by climate change advocates to support the theory.

Professor Jones also conceded the possibility that the world was warmer in medieval times than now – suggesting global warming may not be a man-made phenomenon.

And he said that for the past 15 years there has been no ‘statistically significant’ warming.

Well, I wonder what the Gore supporters will say about this? Bury their heads deeper in the sands of denial? Most likely so. Their addiction to this false theology of theirs is sad to see. Of course, mindless zealots often are pretty damned scary too. Do not forget these people are intent on forcing THEIR religion on all of us.

Out: Redistribution of wealth. In: Redistribution of hotness

Hey, if spreading the cash around helps more people, then spreading the sexiness around would prevent acts like this

VAN NUYS – A Tarzana woman was found guilty Thursday of dousing an exotic dancer and single mother with gasoline and setting her on fire last year outside the Tarzana bikini bar Babes N’ Beer.
Rianne Theriault-Odom, 28, who had been rejected as a dancer at the club, faces mandatory life sentences for the guilty verdicts of one count each of aggravated mayhem and torture. The Los Angeles Superior Court jury acquitted her of a third count, attempted murder and the lesser charge of attempted voluntary manslaughter. . . .

Now, you might be siting there, wondering what in the Hell this crime has to do with the utter unfairness that some women are hot and some are not. Stacy McCain explains

The victim, Roberta Dos Santos Busby is – or at least prior to this crime was – an attractive woman. Theriault-Odom is ugly. And therefore, when Theriault-Odom didn’t get a stripper job, she blamed Busby.

That may not make sense to you, but I’m sure Robert Reich or Paul Krugman could explain it. As every liberal knows, poor people are poor because rich people have all the money.

Theriault-Odom was just applying Liberal LogicTM to her own situation: Ugly women are ugly because beautiful women are monopolizing all the good looks.

There is legal precedent for Theriault-Odom’s belief. About 30 years ago, during the Carter administration, feminists noticed that airline flight attendants — who were called “stewardesses” back then – tended to be young, attractive and cheerful.

This was clearly unfair, so there was a federal civil-rights lawsuit and now all U.S. airline flight attendants are either ill-tempered, middle-aged, homely women or snarky unhelpful gay men.

However, during the Reagan years, Ed Meese put a stop to such shenanigans before the courts could apply that social-justice principle to the strip-club industry, which is why most strippers don’t look like Joy Behar, Whoopi Goldberg or Andrew Sullivan.

Yet.

See what happens we take the idiocy of Leftistism to their natural ends. YEP! You get sheer, unadalterated, fresh from the Tap of Marxism, asininity!

The Blog of the Day, is The Other McCain, for honoring Ed and I with his FMJRA Award,  AND for insightful postings that make people think. I mean how else would we know that Anne Hathaway’s breasts are have been ex-communicated!

Danica Patrick crashes, blames Wisconsin blogger

Danica was mixed up in a crash inn her first NASCAR race, she was unharmed thankfully, and will surely fare better in her next race. After the wreck, Danica blamed one Lance Burri, who has become, according to some sources, a Danica-obsessed blogger. “That guy, that Trolglo blogging guy, Lance Burri, was clearly at fault today. He was the distraction that led to me crashing. All that guy does is blog about me, well, me and Bret Favre” he is sick. Bob Belvedere, who is involved in a blog fued with Burri over Danica Patrick, echoed Danica’s remarks.

As many of my regular readers know, I worry about health of all of my Friends In The Ether.  I’m a caring guy — not some Alan Alda-like, Glenn Beckian, metrosexual mamby-pamby who tears-up at the slightest emotion, but in a Russell-Crowe-as-Gladiator-protecting-his-family kind of way.  Now, I admit, I’ve had my differences with and complaints about The TrogloPundit, Mr. Suave himself, Lance Burri, but, deep down, I like the SOB.  That’s why it pains me to see that he is obviously suffering from some sort of mental illness [caused by the comsumption of too much bad cheese, perhaps?] that makes him think that he owns the Danica Patrick Meme.

Is it bad cheese? Is it an injury suffered from wearing his Cheesehead hat too tight? Or is Lance Burri, just a pervert, as Bob Belvedere suspects Donald Douglas may be?

My friend, professor [and suspected pervert] Donald Douglas was concerned enough to take time away from posting picture of Victor Secret babes to post about it this morning:

Suspected pervert? Hmmm, Donald Douglas DOES seem toi do a lot of babe blogging. Hmmmm And the pervert accusations do not stop there either. Bob also points a finger of guilt at one Robert Stacy McCain

Stacy McCain states:

Obviously, the Solution to Our Nation’s Most Pressing Problems Is . . . more Ann[e] Hathaway boobies.

[What grown man, I ask you, uses the term 'boobies'?  But that's an issue for another day.]

The Classic Liberal goes a step further and takes her seriously, policy-wise:

Today, Anne Hathaway graces us as we explore health care costs.

Plenty of pictures to be found there and not once, once, is the word ‘boobies’ used.  TheCL always was a classy guy.

It is obvious that Bob is exposing the blogosphere’s perverts and deviants, and I thank him for that work!

Deadly shooting at Alabama university

I would have posted about this yesterday, but I was exhausted after work and just could not get the blogging side of my brain going. Donald Douglas, however, was not suffering from BBD, Blogging Brain Disorder, and did a nice job covering the story.

The main story’s at the Huntsville Times, “University of Alabama in Huntsville Biology Professor in Custody Regarding Deadly Shooting at Faculty Meeting.”

But AOSHQ has a report, “Three Dead at University of Alabama at Huntsville as Woman Denied Tenure Opens Fire.” And FWIW, here’s this from Professor Bishop’s RateMyProfessors page:

Neuroscience essentially turns into a bioethics class. She’s a liberal from “Hahvahd” and let’s you know exactly how she feels about particular subjects …

And from Confederate Yankee, Professor Snaps, Kills Faculty When Denied Tenure“:

What sickens me the most is that according to the story, the Harvard-educated shooter, Amy Bishop, obviously suspected that she was going to be denied tenure, and brought the gun into the meeting to kill those peers who told her she wasn’t as good as she thought. Pathetic.

Donald has more this morning. I wonder how this will play in the mainstrem media. Will they find a way to bash the Right? Of course they will play the gun control card, that is a given, and hey, since this happened in Alabama,  do not be surprised to see the South’s “gun culture” card played either. They might even go so far as to imply that this woman was driven to such an act by the Right’s “anti-intellectualism”.

Joe Biden also invented the wheel, and the electric can opener, and the glow-in-the-dark condoms!

Well, actually, Mr. Gaffetastic did not invent those things, but, if he is going to attempt to take credit for the Iraq War for Team Obama then what the Hell. American Glob had the same reaction I did upon hearing Biden’s latest foot in mouth moment.

Are you freaking kidding me?

I am very optimistic about — about Iraq. I mean, this could be one of the great achievements of this administration. You’re going to see 90,000 American troops come marching home by the end of the summer. You’re going to see a stable government in Iraq that is actually moving toward a representative government.

I spent — I’ve been there 17 times now. I go about every two months — three months. I know every one of the major players in all the segments of that society. It’s impressed me. I’ve been impressed how they have been deciding to use the political process rather than guns to settle their differences.

Seriously, Obama and Biden campaigned against the Iraq War, railed against the surge, saying repeatedly that it would fail, had failed, etc. President Obama even went so far as to say he would STILL oppose the surge even though it worked! And now they have the umitigated gall to try and take credit for the success there? Good Freaking Grief! These two are the ultimate hypocrites aren’t they?
