Secret Military Space Plane Primed For Test Launch – Space
A secretive military spacecraft resembling a small space shuttle orbiter is undergoing final processing in Florida for launch on April 19.
The Air Force confirmed the critical preflight milestone in a response to written questions on Thursday.
The 29-foot-long, 15-foot-wide Orbital Test Vehicle arrived in Cape Canaveral, Fla., last month according to the Air Force. The OTV spaceplane was built at a Boeing Phantom Works facility in Southern California.
Managed by the Air Force Rapid Capabilities Office, the OTV program is shrouded in secrecy, but military officials occasionally release information on the the spaceplane’s progress.
“It is now undergoing spacecraft processing including checkout, fueling, and encapsulating in the 5-meter fairing of the Atlas 5 [rocket],” an Air Force spokesperson said.
The 11,000-pound vehicle will launch inside the nose cone of the Atlas 5 rocket. Liftoff is currently set for 10 p.m. EDT on April 19.
The reusable spacecraft is more famously known as the X-37B. The design is based on the orbital and re-entry demonstrator initially developed by NASA, then handed over to the Pentagon.
The NASA version of the X-37 featured an equipment bay 7 feet long and 4 feet in diameter for experiments and deployable payloads.
IRS Visits Sacramento Carwash In Pursuit Of 4 Cents – Sacramento Bee
It was every businessperson’s nightmare. Arriving at Harv’s Metro Car Wash in midtown Wednesday afternoon were two dark-suited IRS agents demanding payment of delinquent taxes. “They were deadly serious, very aggressive, very condescending,” says Harv’s owner, Aaron Zeff.
The really odd part of this: The letter that was hand-delivered to Zeff’s on-site manager showed the amount of money owed to the feds was … 4 cents.
Inexplicably, penalties and taxes accruing on the debt – stemming from the 2006 tax year – were listed as $202.31, leaving Harv’s with an obligation of $202.35.
Zeff, who also owns local parking lots and is the president of the Midtown Business Association, finds the situation a bit comical.
“It’s hilarious,” he says, “that two people hopped in a car and came down here for just 4 cents. I think (the IRS) may have a problem with priorities.”
Md. Foreclosure Filings Skyrocket In February – Washington Examiner
Prince George’s County saw nearly 1,800 foreclosure filings last month — about one-third of Maryland’s total — as state and federal officials scramble to find a solution to the unrelenting mortgage crisis.
Nine of the 10 Washington-area ZIP codes with the most foreclosure filings in February were in Prince George’s. The county’s filings increased 71 percent from last February, pushing Maryland to the 10th-worst rate in the country, according to the online foreclosure tracking company RealtyTrac.
Just a few years ago, Northern Virginia was ground zero for the foreclosure crisis; Prince William County had more than 6,500 actual foreclosures in 2008, according to data from the county’s assessments office. Over the past 16 months, though, the crisis has shifted from the Virginia suburbs to Maryland.
In November 2008, the 10 ZIP codes with the most foreclosure filings were in Virginia. By November 2009, nine of the top 10 were in Maryland.
The collapse in the housing market hit Virginia harder at first, and now Maryland is lagging, said Andy Bauer, a regional economist at the Baltimore branch of the Richmond Federal Reserve.
Whereas Prince William suffered more from an overbuilding problem, much of the trouble in Prince George’s arose from subprime mortgage lending in established neighborhoods, Bauer said.
Dead Toddler’s Identity Stolen For Tax Return – ABC News
Less than a year after a Washington couple buried their 21-month-old daughter, they are fighting to prove to the Internal Revenue Service that they were her parents.
Jessica Struthers and Matt Bock were stunned to learn that someone else had stolen their daughter’s Social Security number and claimed little Ava on a tax form for the deduction benefits.
“We were shocked. Who does this?” Struthers said. “And, of course, we want to know who and they [IRS] won’t tell you.”
The couple, who live in Blaine, Wash., with their three sons and a foster child they are working to adopt, said the person who stole Ava’s identity has already received the federal tax return worth several thousand dollars for their deceased daughter.
“It makes me sick,” Struthers said.
The burden of proof, they said, is now on them.
Ava, born in November 2007, was a twin who made a habit of running on the tips of her toes and stretching out the word “Daddy” with delight when Bock came home from work.
She died in August after she climbed into the family’s backyard swimming pool and drowned.
Woman Aims To Be World’s Fattest, Eats Mounds Of Food – Times Of India
Donna Simpson, who wears XXXXXXXL dresses, aims to be the fattest woman in the world. She says sushi is her favourite food, “but unlike others I can sit and eat 70 big pieces of sushi in one go”.
Donna Simpson, 42, from New Jersey, is determined to reach the 1,000lb mark (about 450 kg) in two years, the Daily Mail reported.
Simpson already holds the Guinness World Record as the world’s fattest mother and consumes nearly 12,000 calories a day in an effort to be the world’s fattest woman.
“My favourite food is sushi, but unlike others I can sit and eat 70 big pieces of sushi in one go. I do love cakes and sweet things, doughnuts are my favourite,” Simpson was quoted as saying.
Simpson eats a lot of junk food and tries to move as little as possible. “I’d love to be 1,000lb (about 450 kg),” she said, adding: “It might be hard though. Running after my daughter keeps my weight down.”
India Bus Crash Kills 26, Injures 34 – CBS News
A bus fell from a bridge into a dry riverbed in northwestern India early Monday, killing at least 26 students and teachers on board, police said.
Another 34 passengers were injured, 10 of them seriously, in the accident in Sawai Madhopur district, nearly 115 miles west of Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan state, said police official Vikas Kumar.
All the injured have been hospitalized, he told The Associated Press.
Kumar said the driver apparently lost control of the vehicle and it smashed through bridge railing and plunged into the riverbed.
The victims were from a teachers’ training institute and were returning to Khanpur in Rajasthan state after visiting the Hindu pilgrimage center of Haridwar in Uttarakhand state.
Accidents occur frequently on roads in India and are often blamed on reckless driving, aging vehicles and overloading.
Authorities: Neb. Man Too Drunk For DUI Sentencing – Yahoo News
Authorities said a 30-year-old-man showed up so drunk for his sentencing for drunken driving that he missed his hearing and now faces even more time behind bars.
Authorities said Jason Botos was driven to the Papillion courthouse on Thursday by his father, who needed help from deputies to get his son out of the vehicle.
Prosecutor Ben Perlman said Botos was so drunk he couldn’t attend the hearing, so the judge issued a warrant. Deputies arrested Botos in the parking lot.
Another hearing is set for Tuesday. A jail spokeswoman said Botos remained in custody Friday. Botos’ attorney didn’t immediately return a call.
Botos had pleaded guilty to misdemeanor drunken driving in a September 2009 collision with five other vehicles.
D.C. Handing Out 500,000 Female Condoms To Fight HIV – CNN
On a Saturday at the Lamar Edward Salon, a small cluster of women watch a demonstration of a new product.
Their giggles turn into growing interest. They learn the city is handing out free samples, but it’s not shampoo or makeup products. Instead, the women can leave the salon with free female condoms tucked into their purses.
Co-owner Gerald Armstrong said his salon is a perfect place for a frank discussion about safe sex.
“We talk about beauty and we talk about hair and makeup and things to make them feel better,” Armstrong said. “We should start talking about things that are helping them to live longer.”
Faced with an HIV infection rate six times higher than the national average, District of Columbia officials are launching an unorthodox campaign to halt the spread of the disease. They will hand out 500,000 female condoms at salons and community centers and offer informal training sessions to teach women how to use the little-known product.
Illegals Steal $20.8M Home Tax Credits – Sweetness & Light
Federal inspectors scouring tax returns that contain a credit for first-time homebuyers have found something curious about claims from Texas.
Nearly 1,000 were filed by people employing a special taxpayer identification number primarily used by illegal immigrants, who are not entitled to the credit.
The Texas filings represented nearly one-third of the 3,200 suspicious homebuyer credit claims submitted by noncitizens around the country. The value of the credits from all the noncitizen claims was $20.8 million, a U.S. Treasury Department inspector general said.
Texas’ total was almost double that of similar suspicious filings from California, a state estimated to have nearly twice as many illegal residents.
Russell George, the Treasury inspector general for tax administration, declined to offer his assessment on the disproportionate number of suspicious homebuyer credit claims from Texas discovered by his investigators.

Hey, just a note that I am still pretty wiped out, just tired mentally, and just not quite able to find the energy to post much this weekend, back on Monday with a fresh brain hopefully.
Right now, I am going to do some more research for a presentation I am giving Thursday night at my Sons of Confederate veterans Camp. It will be on General Forrest and Ft. Pillow., I will also be giving another presentation at another local SCV camp on April 8th, again, on Ft. Pillow, and what exactly did happen there.

Andrew Sullivan should be thankful that The Atlantic’s fact-checking department has no purview over the magazine’s website. The magazine’s fact-checkers vet each word that appears in the print magazine for accuracy and context, but because they have no authority over blogs (or anything else produced for the web), Andrew is free to publish malicious nonsense, such as the series of map he published yesterday, maps which purport to show how Jews stole Palestinian land. Andrew does not tell us the source of these maps (in a magazine with standards, the source would be identified), but they were drawn to cast Jews in the most terrible light possible.The first map in the series of four is most egregious. It suggests that, in 1946, nearly all of the land between the Jordan and the Mediterranean was “Palestinian.” Land designated as “Jewish” in this map constitutes maybe five percent of the total. This map is ridiculous, not only because the term “Palestinian” in 1946 referred, generally speaking, to the Jews who lived in Palestine, not the Arabs, but because there was no Palestine in 1946 (nor was there an Israel.) There was only the British Mandate. Jews lived throughout the territory then occupied by the British, including, by the way, on land that today constitutes the West Bank (though in 1946 Jews did not live in Hebron; they were expelled in 1929, after an Arab massacre of Jewish religious scholars). The intent of this propaganda map is to suggest that an Arab country called “Palestine” existed in 1946 and was driven from existence by Jewish imperialists. Not only was there no such country as “Palestine” in 1946, there has never been a country called Palestine. Before the British conquered Jerusalem, Palestine was a sub-province of the Ottoman Empire. (And after the British left, of course, Jordan and Egypt moved in to occupy Gaza and the West Bank.)
Way to go Andy, way to go. Why not actually study your history, get your facts straight, THEN, make a decision based on facts. I suppose pursuing such a course would get in the way of your despicable hatred of Israel and their right to exist? I suppose if the facts get in the way, you, like the Leftist slimeball you are, just push those aside. After all, you certainly cannot be expected to use rational thought, or facts, can you Andy?

Police act swiftly after gun purchases
Concerns about an Oregon Department of Transportation employee who purchased several guns after being placed on leave prompted law enforcement across Southern Oregon to step in.
Negotiators and a SWAT team from Medford police safely took a man — whose name wasn’t released — into protective custody Monday morning in the 500 block of Effie Street, Medford police said in a news release.
He was taken to Rogue Valley Medical Center for a mental-health evaluation.
The man recently had been placed on administrative leave from his job and was “very disgruntled,” the news release said.
Oh, a “news release” said he was “very disgruntled” … Well then, that settles it.

In New Low, Democrats Exploit 11-Year-Old Boy Whose Mother Died To Push Health Care Reform – Associated Content
In what can only be described as a new low, Democrats are actively exploiting an 11-year-old boy whose mother died after losing her insurance to push health care reform.
In a grandstanding press conference yesterday organized by the Senate Democrat “Leadership” (that would be Harry “Out of work husbands beat their wives” Reid), 11-year-old Marcelas Owens was trotted out before cameras and made to give a puppy dog-eyed appeal to Americans everywhere to just let “Barack Obama and Congress and everybody… come together and… help get the health care bill passed.”
Aside from the fact that he was trotted out like a little Democrat/Universal Health care mascot, this was clearly exploitation of him and his emotional situation by the Democrats and his left-wing grandmother who was at the conference with him. Additionally, it is not certain at all that his mother would’ve survived if she wouldn’t have lost her insurance!
Marcelas Owens is an 11-year-old Seattle boy whose single mother died in 2007 from pulmonary hypertension. Since the health care debate has ratcheted up over the past year, Washington Senator Patty Murray has been at the forefront of pushing little Marcelas to the front lines of the health care battle.
Misusing kids has been such a relentless fall-back weapon for the cowardly Democrats that Marcelas and his story ended up as the fodder for a politicized press conference.
In essence, the Democrats are cynically and calculatingly holding Marcelas up for everyone to see (like he’s nothing more than a lifeless prop), as if to say, “Here America! Look what your opposition to Obamacare has done! It’s killed this little boy’s mother… you heartless b_______!”
N.J. Man Linked To Al-Qaeda Worked In U.S. Nuclear Plants – New York Post
Sharif Mobley, who is in custody in Yemen as a suspected member of the same branch of al-Qaida that’s linked to the failed Christmas Day bombing attempt of a Detroit-bound jet, worked for a time at several US nuclear plants, authorities said.
Mobley, who also is accused of killing a guard in an attempt to break out of a hospital in Yemen, worked as a laborer at the facilities.
Public Service Enterprise Group Inc. said Mobley worked at the Salem and Hope Creek nuclear reactors in New Jersey and other reactors in the area from 2002 to 2008. He worked mainly during refueling outages for several weeks at a time.
Friends say he had strong Muslim views as early as high school. But his old friend Roman Castro knew he had radicalized when he saw him about four years ago.
Castro, an Army veteran who did a tour in Iraq, said Mobley had only these words for him in a chance meeting: “Get the hell away from me, you Muslim killer!”
Mobley, a 26-year-old natural-born U.S. citizen, was identified by Yemeni officials as a Somali-American. A former neighbor said he moved to Yemen about two years ago, supposedly to learn Arabic and study Islam.
He was among 11 al-Qaida suspects detained this month in a security sweep in Yemen’s capital of San’a this month. He was taken to the hospital over the weekend after he complained of feeling ill. He snatched a gun from a security guard and fatally shot one guard and wounded another before being captured, said Mohammed Albasha, spokesman for the Yemeni Embassy in Washington.
