Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner praised the “positive side” of the tea party movement Sunday, suggesting the movement’s concern with deficits could align the group with the administration in the future.
This makes as much sense as Bill Clinton claiming expertise in marital fidelity, Obama’s discretion in choosing friends and pastors, Nancy Pelosi’s (choices) in plastic surgeons…..

The idea is this, run a story about Arizona residents allowing concealed-carry without a permit, as long as they are 21, and do not have criminal backgrounds. Then, to go with the story? A picture of a scary-looking “assault rifle”, even though those are certainly not concealed weapons. See how easy bias is?

Iceland Volcano Eruption Could Last Months – USA Today
The last time Iceland’s Eyjafjallajokull volcano blew, the eruption lasted more than a year, from December 1821 until January 1823, reports Sally Sennert, a geologist at the Smithsonian Institution.
“This seems similar to what’s happening now,” she says.
The volcano is erupting small, jagged pieces of rocks, minerals and volcanic glass the size of sand and silt into the atmosphere, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. This volcanic ash can even be as small as 1/25,000th of an inch across.
Volcanic ash is formed during explosive volcanic eruptions. Once in the air, the wind can blow these tiny ash particles tens to thousands of miles away from the volcano. Life-threatening and costly damages can occur to aircraft that fly through an eruption cloud, reports the geological survey.
“Silica in the ash gets into the engine and heats up and melts, which causes the engines to stop,” says Sennert.
Based on reported damages from ash encounters, the hazard posed to aircraft can extend more than 3,000 miles from an erupting volcano. (Click here for a map of the ash zone over Europe).
Fortunately for the USA, Sennert says the wind direction is such that the ash cloud is traveling east-southeast, toward Europe and away from the USA.
However, as Science Fair noted previously, the Eyjafjallajokull volcano isn’t necessarily the main problem. It’s Katla, Iceland’s noisier neighbor, that’s the concern. If lava flowing from Eyjafjallajokull melts the glaciers that hold down the top of Katla, then Katla could blow its top, pumping gigantic amounts of ash into the atmosphere.
The potential eruption of Iceland’s volcano Katla could send the world, including the USA, into an extended deep freeze.
“There’s no telling how long the eruptions could last,” says Sennert about the Eyjafjallajokull volcano. “These explosions could go on for some time.”

Muslim Shooter: ‘Too Bad I Ran Out Of Bullets’ – Chicago Sun-Times
Three children and an adult were killed early this morning in Chicago’s Marquette Park neighborhood, and a relative from Madison, Wis., whom police believe was the shooter was later taken into custody.
Sources said the shooter told police “Allah” had told him to kill his family. And he told the officer who arrested him, “Too bad I ran out of bullets,” a source told the Chicago Sun-Times.

Police Stunned By Heroin-Toting 8-Year-Old – Police Link
Wilkinsburg police said they believe no students ingested the contents of 78 bags of heroin that were brought to school by an 8-year-old on Tuesday.
However, they could not say for sure how 18 bags, some opened, ended up in the classroom’s trash can. The third-grader at Turner Elementary School was found with 60 folded bags of heroin, stamped with the message “Trust Me.”

Dead Man Elected Mayor Of Tennessee Town – Fox News
A dead man has been elected mayor of Tracy City, Tenn. Carl Robin Geary died suddenly a few weeks ago. But he received 268 votes anyway in Tuesday’s nonpartisan election, beating out incumbent Barbara Brock.
An election administrator, Donna Basham, said Wednesday she wouldn’t speculate on why Geary won posthumously but noted his death had been widely reported at the time in this corner of southeastern Tennessee.

Mustache Advocacy Group Seeks Tax Break – Yahoo News
It’s time that mustached Americans got in on the stimulus money. At least that’s the proposal being pushed by tax policy professor John Yeutter and the St. Louis-based American Mustache Institute.
On the eve of the deadline to file income tax returns, the professor and the AMI are pushing for a $250 annual tax incentive for people with mustaches. The funds would be used for mustache grooming supplies.

Did I hear someone say Lindsay Graham was a joke?

Leading voices in the Senate are considering a new tax on gasoline, as part of an effort to win Republican and oil industry support for the energy and climate bill now idling in Congress.
The tax, which according to early estimates would be in the range of 15 cents a gallon, was conceived with the input of several oil companies, including Shell, BP and Conoco Phillips, and is being championed by Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina.
It is shaping up as a critical but controversial piece in the efforts by Graham, Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) and Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) to write a climate bill that moderate Republicans could support. Along those lines, the bill will also include an expansion of offshore oil drilling and major new incentives for nuclear power plant construction.

Arizona Passes Strict Illegal Immigration Bill – Fox News
The Arizona House on Tuesday approved a bill that would draw local communities deeper into the fight against illegal immigration despite arguments from opponents that it would do nothing to keep people safer.
House Republicans advanced the measure on a 35-21 party-line vote. The Senate approved the bill in February but must concur to changes made in the House before sending it to Gov. Jan Brewer.
Supporters celebrated the bill as a tough crackdown on illegal immigration that will protect the state from violent criminals.
Arizona’s struggling economy has driven many illegal immigrants from the state. But as the economy rebounds, “so too will the illegal immigrants – larger, stronger and more destructive than they were several years ago,” said Rep. John Kavanagh, R-Fountain Hills.
“We need to put this law in place now so that when the new illegal immigrants come, we’re prepared to do battle with them,” he said.
The measure would create a new state misdemeanor crime of willful failure to complete or carry an alien registration document. It would allow officers to arrest immigrants unable to show documents proving they’re legally in the country.
The proposal also would ban so-called soft immigration policies at local police agencies. It would allow people to sue if they feel a government agency has adopted a policy that hinders the enforcement of illegal immigration laws.
The provision is designed to target law enforcement policies that prevent officers from asking people about their immigration status, but opponents worry it will make victims and witnesses scared to work with police and prosecutors.
“This is a false hope for the people of Arizona. It’s a false sense of security for our neighborhoods,” said Rep. Chad Campbell, R-Phoenix.
The bill is sponsored by Sen. Russell Pearce, R-Mesa, who is one of Arizona’s loudest voices opposing illegal immigration.

Early in the last century, Woodrow Wilson instituted a new tax (the income tax) and railed against ‘greedy corporations’ and ‘fought for the common man.’
One hundred years later, the New Progressives are repeating history and are trying to introduce another new tax. The Value Added Tax:
Paul Volcker, chairman of the President’s Economic Recovery Advisory Board said during a speech last week to the New York Historical Society that a VAT is not a bad idea for raising revenue. Volcker said it might be unpopular, but would have to be considered to cover entitlement spending.
“If at the end of the day we need to raise taxes, we should raise taxes,” he said.
Another favorite theme of the Progressives in the Wilson era was evil corporation and evil business. Today. the New Progressives are continuing the theme with an attack on Wall Street. Of course, they call it “Reform“:
