Smitty 1 famed idiot 0

By Gator Doug

Joan Walsh of Salon should know better than to write things that are easily refuted. Smitty blasts her softball pitch out of the park

Joan Walsh has posted the most risible dismissal of Andrew Breitbart imaginable. Emphasis mine:

Andrew Breitbart isn’t fit to spit-shine the shoes of civil rights hero and Congressman John Lewis. It’s ludicrous to think that the right-wing bully believed he had the moral or political standing to call Lewis a liar, after Lewis and two other black congressmen reported they were called “nigger” by tea partiers during the healthcare reform vote March 20. Lewis’s word on the confrontation is good enough for me.

What about personality-free facts? Videos shot on the spot? What about the fact that Breitbart backs up his claims with money? What about the fact that Breitbart, while arguably abrasive, as truth can be at times, has a sterling reputation?

Now comes news that Breitbart is the liar – or at least the misleader. Video he’s been peddling to “prove” the congressmen were not called the N-word was actually after the slurs occurred. As a friend notes, “It’s like running video of the Twin Towers on 9/10 to prove 9/11 didn’t happen.” Of course the videos Breitbart peddled to claim ACORN helped a supposed pimp and prostitute set up a child-prostitution ring have also been found misleading, at best. The California Attorney General’s review said they were “severely edited” and in fact “showed no violation of the law.” New York authorities concluded the same thing.

Was the video from after the alleged incident? You must have a hard timestamp for the purported event yourself to back up this claim of time shenanigans, Walsh. Why not trot out some facts to back up your claim? Could there be a total lack of facts on your side of the argument?

Go read it all, and enjoy the smackdown.

And, Smitty, for his efforts, earns our Blogger of the Day Award! Smitty is one of the bloggers that has been very gracious in his linkage to this blog, and Ed and I appreciate his generosity, and taste in blogs!

Exposing the evil at Planned Parenthod

By Gator Doug

Cassy Fiano has it!

Live Action has debuted their second video in The Rosa Acuna Project, designed to show how Planned Parenthood uses manipulative counseling and lies to push teenage girls into getting abortions. This video, which takes place in Milwaukee, WI, is horrifying.

Thanks Bob!

Hats off to Bob Belvedere for his generous linkage to my column on Confederate History Month.

Last week Virginia Governor Robert McDonnell proclaimed April Confederate History Month and all hell broke loose upon the man’s head, or, as The Daley Gator calls it ‘offendeditis’ [good one].

In a commentary on the whole situation, TheDG* looks at main criticisms of the Governor’s actions and demolishes them like Stonewall In The Valley.  A highlight:

Wow! Comparing me to the great Stonewall Jackson? Truly an honor. Thanks Bob!

And a very special thanks to Smitty, for linking my column

Gee, maybe they ought to read bills BEFORE passing them after all

By Gator Doug

Maybe Nancy Pelosi is brighter than we all give her credit for. She did say that we would have to pass the health care bil so we could find out what it said. Well, Nancy is likely as surprised at this provision as anyone.

In a new report, the Congressional Research Service says the law may have significant unintended consequences for the “personal health insurance coverage” of senators, representatives and their staff members.

For example, it says, the law may “remove members of Congress and Congressional staff” from their current coverage, in the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program, before any alternatives are available.

The confusion raises the inevitable question: If they did not know exactly what they were doing to themselves, did lawmakers who wrote and passed the bill fully grasp the details of how it would influence the lives of other Americans?

How very fitting. In their mad rush to pass a bill, without reading it, or understanding it themselves, they may have cut off their own noses to spite the American people.

The law apparently bars members of Congress from the federal employees health program, on the assumption that lawmakers should join many of their constituents in getting coverage through new state-based markets known as insurance exchanges.

But the research service found that this provision was written in an imprecise, confusing way, so it is not clear when it takes effect.

The new exchanges do not have to be in operation until 2014. But because of a possible “drafting error,” the report says, Congress did not specify an effective date for the section excluding lawmakers from the existing program.

Under well-established canons of statutory interpretation, the report said, “a law takes effect on the date of its enactment” unless Congress clearly specifies otherwise. And Congress did not specify any other effective date for this part of the health care law. The law was enacted when President Obama signed it three weeks ago.

I am sure they will find a way to weasel out of this, Lord knows they are good at finding back doors and circumventing Constitutional rules, but, folks, tell me, does this story not put a big old smile on your face?

H/T Allahpundit at Hot Air, who adds this jewel of irony

In other words, theoretically the law kicks them out of the federal health plan now in order to force them to join insurance exchanges … that don’t exist yet. Looking forward to tomorrow, when we’re inevitably told that they meant to do that

Drunk Driver Crashes Into Judge Who Spared Him Jail Time For Drunk Driving – Sun Sentinel

A man has been charged with driving drunk and hitting the car of a retired Maryland judge who once spared him jail time in previous drunk driving case.

The suspect, 45, was scheduled to be in court Wednesday to face trial on eight charges related to the August crash where he hit a car being driven by retired Montgomery County District Judge Edwin Collier. Collier, 86, and his wife Ellen Collier, 82, were both injured in the crash.

Collier presided over a case in 1998 in which police charged the man with drunk driving after an officer saw his car idling in a parking lot and gave him a sobriety test.

He pleaded guilty in that case, and Collier spared him jail time, even though the man had been arrested on drunk driving charges twice in three months.

Pornographic Magazine For The Blind Launched – The Telegraph

The book, the brainchild of Lisa Murphy and called Tactile Minds, is designed to be ‘enjoyed’ by the blind and visually impaired – and is on sale for £150.

Among the 17 raised images include a naked woman in a ‘disco pose’, a woman with ‘perfect breasts’ and a ‘male love robot’.

Canadian Lisa says that she made the book to fill a gap in the market, adding: “There are no books of tactile pictures of nudes for adults.”We’re breaking new ground.

Playboy has an edition with Braille wording, but there are no pictures.”She said that she made the book after realising that the ‘blind have been left out in a culture saturated with sexual images’.

Between 1970 and 1985 Playboy printed copies of its famous magazine in braille – but without raised pictures.

Woman Convicted Of Piercing Cats Sentenced To One Year Of House Arrest – Times Leader

Holly Crawford, 35, of Ross Township, was sentenced this morning on one count of cruelty to animals by Luzerne County Court of Common Pleas Judge Tina Polachek Gartley.

Crawford, who was convicted in February by a Luzerne County jury, received one year in the county’s Intermediate Punishment Program, with the first six months of house arrest with an electronic monitor.

Crawford was also ordered to discontinue her grooming business until her sentence is complete, which includes over one year of probation and several hours of community service.

Crawford’s Web site, gothickittens.net, was also ordered to be taken down.

Escaped Convicts Disguised As Sheep – Orange News

Two Argentinean convicts who escaped from jail reportedly evaded capture by disguising themselves as sheep.

Maximiliano Pereyra and Ariel Diaz dressed in full sheepskin fleeces with realistic looking heads as they tried to evade capture.

Pereyra, 25, and Diaz, 28, who were jailed for robbery, escaped from a maximum security jail in Argentina, reports The Sun.

They stole the sheep hides from a local ranch and used their disguises to fool officials for more than a week despite more than 300 members of the local constabulary searching for them.

The local police have been left embarrassed by the episode after locals reported seeing the pair running through local fields at night.

“They were wearing grey clothes but had full sheepskins, including the sheeps’ heads, over their heads and backs,” said a farmworker at La Almeda.

Police sources said it appeared that identifying the pair among thousands of other sheep was “almost impossible”.

“They can’t pull the wool over our eyes forever,” one officer reportedly deadpanned.

Earth to Obama the United States of America is NOT a Democracy.

Obama, Master of historical cluelessness!

President Obama said Sunday that the United States is still “working on” democracy and a top aide said he has taken “historic steps” to improve democracy in the United States during his time in office.

The remarks came as Obama met with Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev — one of the U.S. president’s many meetings with world leaders ahead of this week’s nuclear summit.

Kazakhstan, which has been touting its record on combating nuclear proliferation, is a key player in the NATO supply network to Afghanistan and currently heads the Organization of Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).

Some observers see a conflict between Kazakhstan’s chairmanship of the 56-nation OSCE, which plays an important role in monitoring elections in emerging democracies, and its own widely criticized human rights record.

But if the Obama administration saw any disconnect, it kept its criticism to itself.

“In connection with the OSCE, the presidents had a very lengthy discussion of issues of democracy and human rights,” NSC senior director Mike McFaul said on a conference call with reporters Sunday. “Both presidents agreed that you don’t ever reach democracy; you always have to work at it. And in particular, President Obama reminded his Kazakh counterpart that we, too, are working to improve our democracy.”

What a boob! He has absolutely no idea. Yes, I know he is a “consitutional scholar” which apparently does not require actually reading that document. President Obama, really, ever heard of Benjamin Franklin?

A lady asked Dr. Franklin, “Well, Doctor, what have we got – a republic or a monarchy?” “A republic,” replied the Doctor, “if you can keep it.”

A REPUBLIC, not a DEMOCRACY! Yes, there is a big difference Mr. President!

Hey, maybe that Belvedere guy should write an advice column.

Bob Belvedere, blogger and the Dear Abby of the Ether? Hmmm, I do not know if he could give relationship advice, but if you want to know cabout Census etiquette? He be your man!

So after months of being barraged on land, sea, and in The Ether by advertisements and twice in the mail, I have finally filled out my Federal Census Form.  Not that the folks at the Department of Commerce are going to be happy with the way I did — oh, no no.  I’m sure they will be rather unhappy with your humble Dispatcher.  You see, I refused to answer most of their questions.

Article 1, Section 2, Clause 3 of The Constitution states, in full [emphasis mine]:

Representatives and direct Taxes shall be apportioned among the several States which may be included within this Union, according to their respective Numbers, which shall be determined by adding to the whole Number of free Persons, including those bound to Service for a Term of Years, and excluding Indians not taxed, three fifths of all other Persons. The actual Enumeration shall be made within three Years after the first Meeting of the Congress of the United States, and within every subsequent Term of ten Years, in such Manner as they shall by Law direct. The Number of Representatives shall not exceed one for every thirty Thousand, but each State shall have at Least one Representative; and until such enumeration shall be made, the State of New Hampshire shall be entitled to chuse three, Massachusetts eight, Rhode-Island and Providence Plantations one, Connecticut five, New-York six, New Jersey four, Pennsylvania eight, Delaware one, Maryland six, Virginia ten, North Carolina five, South Carolina five, and Georgia three.

The Constitution declares that the decennial census shall be for the purposes of apportioning congressional seats among the states and direct taxes ONLY.  Nowhere else in the document is the census mentioned again.  Therefore, it has two purposes only.  End of story.

I completed by Federal Census form accordingly.  Here are the questions I answered:

- How many people were living or staying in this house, apartment, or mobile home on April 1, 2010?

-Were there any additional people staying here April 1, 2010 that you did not include in Question 1?

-What is Person 1’s name?

-Does Person 1 sometimes live or stay somewhere else?

-Print name of Person 2.

-Does this person sometimes live or stay somewhere else?

My race, my ethnic origin, my sex, my date of birth, and the second person’s relationship to me have absolutely nothing to do with apportioning House members or the apportioning of direct taxes.  They are not the national government’s Goddamn business, unless I voluntarily make them so.

Exposing the vermin behind CrashTheTeaParty.org

Tye vermin being one Jason Levin.

My blogging cohort at The Resistance, Russ, has some info, Michelle Malkin is ALL OVER this!

The one-year anniversary of the nationwide April 15 Tax Day Tea Party counterinsurgency is fast approaching — and publicity-seeking malefactors of all stripes want in on the spotlight.

Over the last week, conservative activists online have thoroughly exposed the loser behind an Internet call to “Crash the Tea Party.” His name is Jason Levin. To follow his trail, check Free Republic here, Canada Free Press here, and Velvet Hammer here. After failing to cover his tracks, Levin is now basking in the glow of attention on his tpartycrasher Twitter page and on his personal Twitter page (where he brags that he has hit the big time and “gone viral:”)

Thought of the Day

Just a question for everyone to ponder. How long until some Democrat somewhere calls for the licensing of bloggers?

Confederate history month proclamation causes massive outbreak of Offendeditis

Why would anyone be surprised that the usual suspects are aghast that Virginia’s governor Bob McDonnell has rightly proclaimed April Confederate History Month? Who would expect anything else from the Left? After all, being offended and stirring up fake incidents of racism is part of their daily game plan. If it were not the Virginia governor, it would be the Tea Parties, or Sarah Palin, or any other convenient target.

If y’all have not noticed yet, the Left is desperately trying to smear anyone opposed to the progressive Marxist agenda of the current administration. And face it, Southerners have long been targets of the race pimps on the Left haven’t they? Especially any Southerner that does not hang their head in shame over their Confederate ancestors. The Confederate flag? Dixie? Confederate monuments? All have been used as political footballs by the Left to paint Conservatives as racists, and ignorant, insensitive hicks. So, again, the phony outrage, is nothing new. Rather, it is just the latest example of how the Left operates.

What is new, and terribly disturbing is that several Conservative bloggers and politicians have to at least some degree joined the Left in criticizing the proclamation. Frankly, we, as Conservatives ought to know better on several fronts. Let me take a look at the major points of criticism these Conservatives have aimed at Gov. McDonnell.

First there is the inane notion that such a move hurts Conservative chances of reaping major gains in the Senate or House races in November. The logic is that this will make Conservatives look insensitive, and out of touch. To that let me say B.S.! The only fools who will think that are never going to vote for a Conservative anyway. They are so consumed identity politics and perpetual victimhood that they would blindly buy the Democrats talking points even if McDonnell had refused to issue such a proclamation.

Second, there is this idea that this is bad for the GOP because, get this, the Left will criticize us over the governor’s action. Excuse me for injecting some reality here, but when the Hell have Liberals NOT criticized Republicans? When was the last time they offered us a pat on the back or atta boy? When, exactly, have they needed anything concrete to scream RAAAAACIST at us? They do so every day, and twice on Sunday! I will never grasp this idea that some of us have that we should seek Liberal approval. Face it, they only approve of us when they are sure we are caving into them. If you wish to grovel at the feet of Liberals, then your name is probably Lindsay Graham.

The third argument, is, to me, the most annoying. Those among us who are saying that recalling history is OK, but, somehow not this chapter of history, excuse me, but are they mad?. Allow me to inquire as to what other chapters of history are to be sacrificed upon the altar of political correctness? I would remind readers that a proper understanding of the War Between the States is crucial to an understanding of American history. And, a proper study and understanding of the Confederacy is crucial to understanding the War Between the States.

I would also remind any Conservative that America is in the hole it is today because we have forgotten so much of our history. We are right to demand that our representatives remember the founding documents, we are right to demand these documents be taught in school. Again, how is studying the Confederacy any less important? Is not the essential question right now, on so many issues, NOT States rights? And what was the fight from 1861-65 over again? Yes, States rights.

Finally, the argument that the Virginia proclamation is ” unacceptable” because it failed, in its original form at least, to mention slavery every other word, is a historically incorrect argument.

Remember that this proclamation is a not a national, or even regional proclamation, it is a state issued proclamation, that state being Virginia. Virginia left the Union on April 17th 1861. It did not leave to protect slavery, not at all. Neither, in fact did Tennessee, or Arkansas, or North Carolina. Missouri, Kentucky, nor Maryland did not seriously consider secession over slavery either. These states all were troubled over something else.

Virginia, Tennessee, North Carolina, and Arkansas took their leave after President Lincoln called for 75,000 volunteers to invade the Southern states that had seceded to compel them, at point of bayonet, back into a union they no longer wished to be a part of. Had Lincoln not called for the troops, then Virginia would not have left the Union. Funny how a bit of historical reality can change perspectives isn’t it?

Naturally ANY study of the war, or Confederate history, or of the Union side, will result in vast studies of the role of Blacks, both free and slave. It will also result in much-needed study of the service and sacrifice of Blacks in both armies as well. It should be noted that many of the same voices screaming against the proclamation because it somehow “excludes” are usually very eager to “exclude” any mention of Blacks who served in the Confederate military.

Lastly, it must be added that no matter what language a Republican governor included in such a proclamation, that governor would be ripped by the Left. Had Governor McDonnell inserted the mention of slavery, he still would have been attacked. The aim of the Left here is not inclusion, or tolerance. It certainly is not historical accuracy. The aim, as always, is to use every effort to attack and demonize the Right. As I said at the start, the South is an old standby for such attacks. Rather than trying to appease the Left the Right ought to unite and say Hell no to further erosions of American history.
