Some people actually are looking into getting that “free” Obamacare!
Yes, despite every bit of evidence to the contrary, despite the fact that NO ONE, absolutely NO ONE ever said that healthcare would be free under this massive bill, still some idiots had that word, “free” stuck in their heads.
Sorry, wrong quote. These are the kind of questions to expect, multiplied by fifty or sixty million:Questions reflecting confusion have flooded insurance companies, doctors’ offices, human resources departments and business groups.
“They’re saying, ‘Where do we get the free Obama care, and how do I sign up for that?’ ” said Carrie McLean, a licensed agent for eHealthInsurance.com. The California-based company sells coverage from 185 health insurance carriers in 50 states.
McLean said the call center had been inundated by uninsured consumers who were hoping that the overhaul would translate into instant, affordable coverage….
“We tell them it’s not free, that there are going to be things in place that help people who are low-income, but that ultimately most of that is not going to be taking place until 2014,” McLean said…
This is what the left has deluded themselves into believing. That EVERYTHING should be handed to them, free. With so many people this stupid all I can say is God help us!
Remember when Obama said he would bring us all together?
He was lying to us, as Peter Whener explains via American Spectator
But almost from the outset, Obama began pushing an ambitious liberal agenda in a nation that is center-right. Facing an unprecedented fiscal crisis, Obama unveiled initiatives and budgets that made things far worse. In addition, after a yearlong debate on Obamacare, the president is pushing his agenda over the strong objections of most Americans, who are saying, in every way they know how, “Stop.” But Obama is indifferent to their wishes. He knows better.
Add to this the fact that a considerable number of Americans believe that the means that Obama, Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid have used to pass health care reform are at best questionable and at worst an abuse of power, and you have the ingredients for a popular uprising against Obamaism, which is exactly what is unfolding. It doesn’t help, of course, that the White House and its allies attack their critics in a manner that ranges from mocking to vicious.
The combination of an unpopular agenda being advanced through ugly and indefensible back-room deals, without any of the transparency that Obama promised, has created a sense among a growing number of Americans of what the philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche called “ressentiment,” by which he meant not only opposition but something more: a sense of injury caused by a perceived injustice (James Davison Hunter discusses Nietzsche’s views in his new book “To Change The World: The Irony, Tragedy, & Possibility of Christianity in the Late Modern World”).
Pretty much spot on, be sure to read it all.
Your joke of the day
After a President has been in office for 1 year it is customary for the last President to send a note of congratulations to the new one. So yesterday when the note came from Bush to Obama, the President was somewhat troubled because it was written in code and all it said was: 370H-SSV-0773H
This troubled him as he had always heard from his peers how former president Bush was perceived to have been scholarly challenged. So he took the note to his wife. She was unable to decipher it.
They called in the VP, and he was unable to decode the message. They called in the chief of staff and the head of Secret Service detail and they were unable to determine the meaning of the note.
Next he called in the head of the Senate and Speaker of the House..
They both were mystified by the meaning of the coded message.
Now there was complete panic in the Oval Office.
They called all of their contacts in the media and sent copies of the note to all of them, and not one was able to come up with an answer. A special emergency meeting was called by the staff.
All branches of the military, counter intelligence, CIA, FBI were called in, and the best minds were unable crack the code. After a sleepless night, a now humbled President Obama picked up the phone and called the former president, and asked him the meaning of the note. George Bush chuckled and replied: ‘Bud …. you’re holding it upside down
Please do not call Charles Johnson a douchebag anymore
Seriously, I mean it, he in no way deserves that name. What he does deserve to be called is a race-baiting, bottom-feeding, degenerate bigot! But douchebag? OK, he IS a freaking douchebag too. And most of all, he is displaying all the characteristics of an intellectual cowardice. After seeing this crap that Ace found on CJ’s once fine blog, I wonder if Johnson is auditioning to be a MSNBS host, or maybe he wants to give tongue baths to Olbermann, or bikini waxes to Rachel Maddow? I mean this garbage is exactly what the MSNBS bunch spews isn’t it? Johnson has devolved into nothing more than a useful idiot for Obama’s Alinskyists. Stalin would have loved this asshat wouldn’t he? He would have patted little Charles on his little head, and said good job. Dictators love idiots like Johnson, idiots who swallow every last drop of the propoganda they spoon feed them, and then beg for more.

Court: No Internet Control For FCC – Conservative NC
Federal Communications Commission does not have the legal authority to slap Net neutrality regulations on Internet providers, a federal appeals court ruled Tuesday.
A three-judge panel in Washington, D.C. unanimously tossed out the FCC’s August 2008 cease and desist orderagainst Comcast, which had taken measures to slow BitTorrent transfers and had voluntarily ended them earlier that year.
Because the FCC “has failed to tie its assertion” of regulatory authority to any actual law enacted by Congress, the agency does not have the authority to regulate an Internet provider’s network management practices, wrote JudgeDavid Tatel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit.
Tuesday’s decision could doom one of the signature initiatives of current FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski, a Democrat. Last October, Genachowski announced plans to begin drafting a formal set of Net neutrality rules – even though Congress has not given the agency permission to begin. (Verizon Communications CEO Ivan Seidenberg, for instance, has said that new regulations would stifle innovative technologies like telemedicine.)
Even though liberal advocacy groups had urged the FCC to take action against Comcast, the agency’s vote to proceed was a narrow 3-2, with the dissenting commissioners predicting at the time that it would not hold up in court. FCC Commissioner Robert McDowell, a Republican, said at the time that the FCC’s ruling was unlawful and the lack of legal authority “is sure to doom this order on appeal.”
The ruling also is likely to shift the debate to whether Congress will choose to explicitly grant the FCC the authority to regulate companies’ network management practices, and revive lobbying coalitions that have been defunct for the last few years.
In 2006, Congress rejected five different bills, backed by groups including Google, Amazon.com, Free Press, and Public Knowledge, that would have handed the FCC the power to police Net neutrality violations. Even though the Democrats have enjoyed a majority on Capitol Hill since 2007, however, the leadership has shown little interest in resuscitating those proposals.
“We must decide whether the Federal Communications Commission has authority to regulate an Internet service provider’s network management practices,” Tatel wrote in his 36-page opinion. “The Commission may exercise this ‘ancillary’ authority only if it demonstrates that its action – here barring Comcast from interfering with its customers’ use of peer-to-peer networking applications – is ‘reasonably ancillary to the… effective performance of its statutorily mandated responsibilities.’”

Republicans Slam Obama Judicial Nominee Over 117 Omissions From Record – Fox News
Senate Republicans on Tuesday slammed one of the Obama administration’s most controversial judicial nominees for failing to initially disclose more than 100 of his speeches, publications and other background materials – an omission the Republicans called unprecedented and a possible attempt to “hide his most controversial work.”
They said Goodwin Liu’s nomination to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals is in “jeopardy” in light of the problem.

GM And Chrysler’s Pensions Underfunded By $17 Billion – New York Times
The pension plans at General Motors and Chrysler are underfunded by a total of $17 billion and could fail if the automakers do not return to profitability, according to a government report released Tuesday.
Both companies need to make large payments into the plans within the next five years – $12.3 billion by G.M. and $2.6 billion by Chrysler – to reach minimum funding levels, according to the report, prepared by the Government Accountability Office.

Obama Not Briefed On Nuclear Attack Plans Because ‘He Thought It Was Insane’? – Washington Examiner
According to a knowledgeable source who would not be identified discussing sensitive national-security matters, President Obama wasn’t briefed on the U.S. nuclear-strike plan against Russia and China until some months after he had taken office.
“He thought it was insane,” says the source. (The reason for the delay is unclear; the White House did not respond to repeated inquiries.)

Brawl Erupts Over Easter Candy – Salisbury Post
Police aren’t sure whether Walmart’s prices were so good or if there was a shortage of chocolate rabbits. Whatever the reason, seven women ended up in a brawl in the Easter basket aisle Saturday evening.
Candy eggs, rabbits and Peeps flew through the air in an unlikely Easter exchange. Property damage, primarily to candy and Easter decorations, totalled nearly $800. Salisbury Police responded to the Walmart at 323 Arlington St. around 7 p.m. Saturday.

Cassy Fiano, an excellent blogger, has some very happy news, and Ed and I offer her our best wishes. We really enjoy Cassy’s work, like how she smacks around feminuts
If you ever needed an example of why feminism no longer speaks for the average American woman, then you need look no further than this story.
About two dozen women marched topless from Longfellow Square to Tommy’s Park this afternoon in an effort to erase what they see as a double standard on male and female nudity.
The women, preceded and followed by several hundred boisterous and mostly male onlookers, many of them carrying cameras, stayed on the sidewalk because they hadn’t obtained a demonstration permit to walk in the street. About a thousand people gathered as the march passed through Monument Square, a mix of demonstrators, supporters, onlookers and those just out enjoying a warm and sunny early-spring day.
After the marchers reached Tommy’s Park in the Old Port, some turned around and walked back to Longfellow Square, but most stayed and mingled in the park. Some happily posed for pictures.
Police said there were no incidents and no arrests – nudity is illegal in Maine only if genitals are displayed.
Ty McDowell, who organized the march, said she was “enraged” by the turnout of men attracted to the demonstration. The purpose, she said, was for society to have the same reaction to a woman walking around topless as it does to men without shirts on.
However, McDowell said she plans to organize similar demonstrations in the future and said she would be more “aggressive” in discouraging oglers.
Does this not just sum up everything that is wrong with feminism today? Today’s feminists don’t fight for actual equality or gender rights, like voting or not being discriminated against in the workplace (the phony “pay gap” frequently touted by feminists doesn’t count, because it isn’t real). They “fight” for useless things. Take abortion, one of feminism’s most sacred “rights”. Well, abortion is legal, but are feminists satisfied? Of course not! It has to be taxpayer funded and every woman should be getting abortions. It isn’t good enough to be able to choose — women must be actively choosing abortion in greater and greater numbers while government funding likewise increases. They “fight” for the ability of women to sleep around like horndogs with no consequences whatsoever. They advocate one-night-stands and meaningless hook-ups, but frown upon abstinence and commitments. Nevermind that it’s perfectly legal to sleep with as many people as you want — there are just consequences. Maybe it’s getting pregnant, maybe it’s getting an STD, maybe it’s getting an awful reputation. What feminists want is no consequences.
Feminism is all about fighting for things that don’t. actually. matter.
How very true. Largely the “Feminists” are just trying to remain relevant, but, as Cassy points out, they have no legitimate issues to fight for any more. I would add this thought. These women were PO’d, offended, outraged, and generally put out because people noticed them in their protests? Isn’t getting noticed WHY you protest in the first place? Just asking.
And, again, congrats Cassy, and I am honoring you with our coveted Blog of the Day Award!

Hats off to Dave C for this line concerning Chris “Crazy Legs” Matthews
Dana Loesch is quick to set the record straight and put Matthews into some — as they say in the streets — freaking knowledge. Sadly, I think it’s a wasted effort. You can’t beat clues into Matthews if you duct taped him to a tree and told a bunch of Mexican kids he’s a piñata.

Net Neutrality kicked to the curb
Good news! at least for now, as Michelle warns, the regulators will try again. They always do.
The U.S. Court of Appeals unanimously rejected the Obama FCC’s bid to expand its regulatory powers over the Internet this afternoon. As Clarice Feldman headlined the ruling succinctly:
Your refresher course via ReasonTV (more background here):
Just as the Left would love to silence talk radio, they would also love to squelch us pesky bloggers. ”Net Neutrality” could be a usdeful tool towards that end. As Michelle says, they will try again, and again, and……….
Pat might be “just a blogger” but………..
She obviously grasps national defense issues better than the POTUS does
I guess Obama could have sent out engraved invitations that said “Open for attack,” but that would have taken a little organization. Instead, he has simply told the world that we will not use nuclear weapons:
For the first time, the United States is explicitly committing not to use nuclear weapons against nonnuclear states that are in compliance with the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty, even if they attacked the United States with biological or chemical weapons or launched a crippling cyberattack. Those threats, Mr. Obama argued, could be deterred with “a series of graded options,” a combination of old and new conventional weapons. “I’m going to preserve all the tools that are necessary in order to make sure that the American people are safe and secure,” he said in the interview in the Oval Office.
White House officials said the new strategy would include the option of reconsidering the use of nuclear retaliation against a biological attack, if the development of such weapons reached a level that made the United States vulnerable to a devastating strike.
“Graded options”….is that sort of like all those sanctions that work so well?
Pat is correct, and to be honest, and here is why. She applies reason and logic to her view. She knows that our enemies are, well, called enemies for a damned good reason. She knows showing weakness does not work. It never has, and never will. Pat likely understands as well, that we no weapon will do any good if we do not posess the will to USE THEM! Too bad that Pat is not the POTUS.
Am I Libertarian? Conservative, or………..
Mike, writing at Washington Rebel explores the differences between Conservatism and Libertarianism. A fascinating read
There’s been a lot of complaining here at the Reb about libertarians. Why? I do not understand. But the sometimes seething hatred so many conservatives have towards libertarians, does fascinate me. What are they arguing against?
If you analyze it I believe the very heart and soul of conservatism is libertarianism. I think conservatism is really a misnomer just as liberalism is a misnomer for the liberals–if we were back in the days of the Revolution, so-called conservatives today would be the Liberals and the liberals would be the Tories. The basis of conservatism is a desire for less government interference or less centralized authority or more individual freedom and this is a pretty general description also of what libertarianism is. — Ronald Reagan, 1975
Go read the entire post, it is well worth it. As for me, I have often pondered whether I am a Libertarian, a Conservative, and have generally concluded that I am a Conservative with some definitive Libertarian leanings. My biggest area with Conservatives would be over “social issues”.
My general feeling as to morals, and personal behavior is that the law should stay out of the behaviors of what consenting adults, do in the privacy of their homes, as long as no one is harmed. For instance, sodomy laws have no place in a free country. It matters not if you agree with the behavior or not. The sole question ought to be is it the legitimate role of any governmental body to deem such acts illegal? Clearly, the answer is no.
I do not give a damn about “community standards” either. What an American does in their home is not the business of the community. Again, as long as what they do causes no harm to others, is consensual, and is done between adults.
The only censorship I approve of is the censorship I engage in for myself, or the censorship of parents concerning what their children read, hear, or view.
So, do these beliefs make me a Conservative, or a Libertarian? Or a bit of both?

25 Killed In West Virginia Coal Mine Explosion – Fox News
Rescue teams planned to search again for four workers missing in a coal mine where a massive explosion killed 25 in the worst U.S. mining disaster in more than two decades, though officials said Tuesday that the chances were slim that the miners survived.
The suspended rescue mission would resume after bore holes could be drilled to allow for toxic gases to be ventilated from Massey Energy Co.’s sprawling Upper Big Branch mine about 30 miles south of Charleston, state and federal safety officials said.
“All we have left is hope, and we’re going to continue to do what we can,” Kevin Stricklin, an administrator for the federal Mine Safety and Health Administration, said at a news conference. “But I’m just trying to be honest with everybody and say that the situation does look dire.”
Though the cause of the blast was not known, the operation run by Massey subsidiary Performance Coal Co. has a history of violations for not properly ventilating highly combustible methane gas, safety officials said.
Stricklin said officials had hoped some of the missing survived the blast Monday afternoon and were able to reach airtight chambers stocked with food, water and enough oxygen for them to live for four days. However, rescue teams checked one of two nearby and it was empty. The buildup of toxic methane gas – a constant problem at the mine – and of carbon monoxide prevented teams from reaching other chambers, officials said.
A total of 29 miners were in the area during a shift change when the blast happened, officials said. Some may have died in the blast and others when they breathed in the gas-filled air, Stricklin said. Seven bodies had been recovered and identified, but the other 18 have not, said Gov. Joe Manchin, who returned to the state after being out of town. Names weren’t released publicly.
“Everybody’s just heartbroken over this and the impact on these families,” said mine safety director Joe Main, who was headed to West Virginia.
It is the most people killed in a U.S. mine since 1984, when 27 died in a fire at Emery Mining Corp.’s mine in Orangeville, Utah. If the four missing bring the total to 29, it would be the most killed in a U.S. mine since a 1970 explosion killed 38 at Finley Coal Co., in Hyden, Ky.
