I didn’t use the word douchebag because this clown, I think, is something worse. I’ve been wrestling all day with various terms, but have not achieved success. If you have an idea, let me know.

I can sympathize with a guy thinking he is trying to protect the reputation of his father, but this guy seems so … clueless (?) … that it is all rather pathetic. Obviously it is nasty to be threatening people with a libel suite and throwing around terms like hate-speech, for which Canadians will gladly fine and jail you. Happily, in this country we still have a tradition of defending free speech, and libel is limited to false accusations and requires that there is a reputation of some value that can be damaged.

I was playing around with the idea of ‘Darwin Award Finalist’, and with the rather witless management of the internet community, you’ve got to admit the guy is in the running. Listen, yesterday I had no idea who Robert Leslie Hymers was, nor was I familiar with his peculiar ideas on grace, forgiveness and shepherding his flock. I was unaware of his unflinching desire to brow beat his congregation into conforming with his own thoughts, nor would I have thought that he would publicly humiliate a fourteen year old girl who had the misfortune of being raped.

Now, who hasn’t heard of the guy?
