Obama Backed Release Of Lockerbie Bomber – The Australian
The U.S. government secretly advised Scottish ministers it would be “far preferable” to free the Lockerbie bomber than jail him in Libya.
Correspondence obtained by The Sunday Times reveals the Obama regime considered compassionate release more palatable than locking up Abdel Baset al-Megrahi in a Libyan prison.
The intervention, which has angered U.S. relatives of those who died in the attack, was made by Richard LeBaron, deputy head of the U.S. embassy in London, a week before Megrahi was freed in August last year on grounds that he had terminal cancer.
The document, acquired by a well-placed U.S. source, threatens to undermine U.S. President Barack Obama’s claim last week that all Americans were “surprised, disappointed and angry” to learn of Megrahi’s release.
Scottish ministers viewed the level of U.S. resistance to compassionate release as “half-hearted” and a sign it would be accepted.
The U.S. has tried to keep the letter secret, refusing to give permission to the Scottish authorities to publish it on the grounds it would prevent future “frank and open communications” with other governments.
In the letter, sent on August 12 last year to Scottish First Minister Alex Salmond and justice officials, Mr LeBaron wrote that the U.S. wanted Megrahi to remain imprisoned in view of the nature of the crime.
The note added: “Nevertheless, if Scottish authorities come to the conclusion that Megrahi must be released from Scottish custody, the US position is that conditional release on compassionate grounds would be a far preferable alternative to prisoner transfer, which we strongly oppose.”
Mr LeBaron added that freeing the bomber and making him live in Scotland “would mitigate a number of the strong concerns we have expressed with regard to Megrahi’s release”.
The U.S. regime lobbied the Scottish government more strongly against sending Megrahi home, under a prisoner transfer agreement signed by the British and Libyan governments, in a deal now known to have been linked to a pound stg. 550 million oil contract for BP.
It claimed this would flout a decade-old agreement between Britain and the U.S. that anyone convicted of the bombing would serve their sentence in a Scottish prison. Megrahi was released by Scottish Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill on the grounds that he had three months to live, making his sentence effectively spent.

Goldman Sachs: Billions In Bailout Cash Went To Overseas Banks – USA Today
Goldman Sachs sent $4.3 billion in federal tax money to 32 entities, including many overseas banks, hedge funds and pensions, according to information made public Friday night.
Goldman disclosed the list of companies to the Senate Finance Committee after a threat of subpoena from Senator Chuck Grassley (R-LA) who remarked, “taxpayers deserve to know what happened to their money.”

Power Outages Plague DC After Storm – Washington Examiner
Hundreds of thousands of people were without electricity Monday in the Washington area after powerful storms toppled utility poles, power lines and trees and left two people dead.
A cold front that pushed through Sunday triggered the storm and took the edge off a nearly two-week heat wave, but highs up to 90 were still forecast as crews labored to restore the power grid.

U.S. Spent $314,613 Studying Increase In Family Violence After NFL Upset Losses – CNS
The National Institutes of Health spent $314,613 to determined that family violence increases about three times as much on the 4th of July as it does after the local NFL team suffers an “upset” loss.
“Taken together our findings suggest that emotional cues based on the outcomes of professional football games exert a relatively strong effect on the occurrence of family violence,” the study concluded.

Anita Moncrief To File FEC Charges Against Obama Regime – Big Government
ACORN whistle-blower Anita Moncrief held a press conference Friday at the Right Online Convention in Las Vegas, announcing that she will press FEC charges against the Obama regime for the campaign’s illegal coordination with ACORN during the 2008 election.
Anita also rolled out her new website ‘Emerging Corruption’. The website will focus on fraud and corruption in ACORN and affiliated groups.

Former Congressman Tom Tancredo is in the race for Colorado governor. “I will officially announce at noon that I will seek the nomination of the constitution party,” Tancredo said.
Tancredo must file some papers with the Colorado Secretary of State and register as a member of the American Constitution Party, then “he’s ready to go,” raising money, disclosing his platform and launching a website.

Man Robs Bank With BB Gun While Wearing Clown Pants And Fake Breasts – NewsMeat
A Pittsburgh-area man robbed a bank wearing a woman’s blond wig, fake breasts and clown pants. Swissvale police say 48-year-old Dennis Hawkins was sitting in a parked car covered in red dye from an exploding packet in a bag of money when he was arrested Saturday.
Police Chief Greg Geppert says Hawkins robbed the bank using a toy BB gun he had shoplifted from a store.

‘Dead’ Woman Found Alive After Medical Mix-Up – Fox News
A young Arizona woman thought killed in a car accident last week was found to be alive Saturday in what was described as a medical mix-up, FOX 10 reported.
Abby Guerra, 19, was one of five friends from Ironwood High School in Glendale, Arizona, who were on their way home from California’s Disneyland when they crashed July 18. Guerra’s family was told the promissing young soccer star died at the scene.

Chinese Man Addicted To Eating Light Bulbs – Orange News
He may not be very bright, but a man from China has admitted that is addicted to eating… light bulbs. Wang Jun, 52, has munched his way though over a 1,000 glass light bulbs and usually eats about 25 a month, reports The Sun.
He said: “I remember eating my first light bulb when I was 12. I did it as a dare with my friends and actually had quite a nice feeling afterwards. It was very satisfying.”

If there’s anyone more clueless about our civil rights history than Breitbart, as well as more abusive to it, I’m challenged to think of who it might be. He tests my commitment to nonviolent social change, but I’ll share the work of Charles Sherrod to remember my values.

Discussing last week’s controversy on CNN’s “Reliable Sources,” Salon’s Editor-in-Chief actually claimed, “The woman’s father was murdered by a white farmer, and there were witnesses, and the white justice system never found the murderer guilty.”

Obama is beholden to the hard core environmentalists and can’t get the Senate to push through new regulations limiting the gas, CO2, that we all exhale and plant life uses for photosynthesis. I was not aware that I had become one of the wealthy. But, I figure I am. You see, I just connected the dots. Democrats say they NEVER want to raise taxes on any but the rich right? And as I pointed out on my radio show a few weeks ago, and, as Michelle points out, MY taxes and yours too, are going up, soooooo, we must be RICH!
On ABC’s This Week today, tax cheat Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner championed the expiration of the Bush tax cuts and pooh-poohed the economic impact of tax hikes on the highest earners in the country. It’s “responsible” to punish the wealthy, he argued.
Because after spending America into oblivion, Team Obama now wants to show the world that we are “willing as a country now to start to make some progress” on deficit reduction.
On NBC’s Meet The Press, Geithner crusaded for raising the capital gains tax rate.
Then, to show his commitment to fiscal responsibility, he said the administration is going to kick the can again on behemoth fiscal black holes Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac:
Investor’s Business Daily makes clear that it is not just the “rich” who will pay for Obama redistributionism:
Through the end of this year, the federal estate tax rate is zero — thanks to the package of broad-based tax cuts that President Bush pushed through to get the economy going earlier in the decade.
But as of midnight Dec. 31, the death tax returns — at a rate of 55% on estates of $1 million or more. The effect this will have on hospital life-support systems is already a matter of conjecture.
Resurrection of the death tax, however, isn’t the only tax problem that will be ushered in Jan. 1. Many other cuts from the Bush administration are set to disappear and a new set of taxes will materialize. And it’s not just the rich who will pay.
The lowest bracket for the personal income tax, for instance, moves up 50% — to 15% from 10%. The next lowest bracket — 25% — will rise to 28%, and the old 28% bracket will be 31%. At the higher end, the 33% bracket is pushed to 36% and the 35% bracket becomes 39.6%.
But the damage doesn’t stop there.
The marriage penalty also makes a comeback, and the capital gains tax will jump 33% — to 20% from 15%. The tax on dividends will go all the way from 15% to 39.6% — a 164% increase.
Both the cap-gains and dividend taxes will go up further in 2013 as the health care reform adds a 3.8% Medicare levy for individuals making more than $200,000 a year and joint filers making more than $250,000. Other tax hikes include: halving the child tax credit to $500 from $1,000 and fixing the standard deduction for couples at the same level as it is for single filers.
