Question of the Day: Was Jet Blue flight attendant right, wrong, or some of both?
First, here is the story, via What The…?
The flight attendant career of Steven Slater came to a spectacular close Sunday when he lost patience with certain members of his clientele.
After requesting an anxious passenger to remain in his seat and refrain from pulling out his overhead luggage, the passenger told him what for and then struck Mr. Slater in the head with his bag, accidentally like, as it came down from above them before the plane was properly parked. Funny, but that is exactly why they say not to do that. Returning to his crew station, Mr. Slater took advantage of his access to the plane’s PA system to bid his final flight farewell.
“Authorities said Slater dropped several f-bombs on a JetBlue flight’s loud speaker Monday night, grabbed two beers, deployed the plane’s emergency slide at Kennedy Airport, and then took off.”
I have to say some of both, after all, he was right to curse the dickhead out for, well, being an impatient dickhead, but subjecting the other passengers to his foul language? Not so much!
What do y’all say?
Harry Reid: Give me that old-time race baitng!
Senator Harry Red, or Weasel Dick as I call him, seems to have the idea that he knows how Hispanics ought to think. Via Wizbang
In typical Democratic fashion, Harry Reid played the identity politics card in a speech to Hispanics in Las Vegas yesterday:
U.S. Sen. Harry Reid on Tuesday slammed Republicans for blocking comprehensive immigration reform and told Hispanics they shouldn’t be treated differently because “their skin’s a tone darker” than that of America’s early European immigrants.
“I don’t know how anyone of Hispanic heritage could be a Republican, OK,” Reid said, speaking to Latino supporters whose votes he needs to win re-election in November. “Do I need to say more?”
Ah, I see Reid does not want minorities straying from the Liberal Plantation of Ideology. You Hispanics better know your place! The tolerant Liberals like Reid know how you should think, and vote! Tell me again, which party has the problem with racism?

Former U.S. Senator Ted Stevens Killed In Alaska Plane Crash – Vancouver Sun
America’s longest-serving Republican senator was killed on Tuesday night after a plane in which he was travelling with eight people crashed in Alaska.
Ted Stevens, who represented Alaska for 41 years until 2008, was among those killed when the aircraft came down late on Monday in south-west Alaska, 300 miles from Anchorage, near the town of Aleknagik.
Mitch Rose, a spokesman for Senator Stevens’s family, said that they had been notified that the 86 year-old was among those killed.
It was unclear whether Sean O’Keefe, 54, the former head of Nasa and the chief executive officer of the defence contractor EADS North America, had also perished in the crash.
His son was also on board the single-engine propeller plane, a DeHavilland DHC-3T, which was bringing the group to a remote part of the state for a fishing trip.
Rescuers arrived via helicopter and gave medical care to the four survivors, said Major Guy Hayes, a spokesman for Alaska’s National Guard. The cause of the crash was unclear.
The group was on a fishing trip to Agulowak Lodge. The plane, a DeHavilland DHC-3T propeller float plane, was owned by communications company GCI.
Senator Stevens was one of two survivors of a 1978 plane crash at Anchorage International Airport that killed his wife, Ann, and several others.
A Second World War veteran, he was appointed to the Senate in 1968 and served longer than any other Republican in history.
He lost his re-election bid in 2008 by a tiny margin after he was convicted on corruption charges related to gifts from an oil services company. The case was later thrown out because of prosecutorial misconduct.
While often gruff and short-tempered with staff, reporters and even other senators, the man known to Alaskans as “Uncle Ted” rose to become one of Washington’s most powerful Republicans.
Among his duties, the moderate Republican headed the key Senate Appropriations Committee, which doled out billions of federal dollars each year to states and communities.

Arianna Huffington, who has redefined the meaning of GRATING, is skewered by Noel Sheppard of Newsbusters for her glaring ignorance of basic economics
KEITH OLBERMANN, HOST: Now let’s bring in Arianna Huffington, editor in chief, co-founder of the Huffington Post. Arianna, good evening.
ARIANNA HUFFINGTON: Good evening, Keith.
OLBERMANN: So, the GOP says renew the tax cuts for the richest two percent of Americans. That will free the richest two percent of Americans to start hiring everybody else, and the economy will be stimulated overnight and we’ll all have ice cream in the morning. Does Huffington Post hire more people when your personal tax rate changes?
HUFFINGTON: Well, actually, Huffington Post operates like most American businesses which is that our hiring practices have nothing to do with the income or the tax rate of the people who are running the business. And it’s the same everywhere. Whether we hire or not depends on demand. It depends on whether we’re getting enough advertising dollars.
So, her organization’s hiring decisions have nothing to do with the income of the people running the business. Instead, they depend on whether the publication is getting enough advertising dollars.
OH! So income DOES play a major role! This woman is so dingy she cannot even manage not to refute herself in a matter of seconds. I think Ms. Huffington has more than earned today’s Marxist Moron Award!

Thank God there’s Judy McGuire, a blogger for The Seattle Weekly, to tell me how I feel about myself, because batting for the “other team” means towing the Leftist gay agenda at every possible moment.
Today, Ms. McGuire writes in her blog at The Weekly:
Ann Coulter is the human equivalent of a weeping, pus-filled sore located deep in the diseased rectum of Adolf Hitler’s rotting corpse. Her cackling, hate-filled pratter has targeted everyone from widows of people killed during the World Trade Center attacks to Muslims to Canadians to “faggots.” So wasn’t I gobsmacked to see during my daily perusal of Joe. My. God. that this she-beast will be appearing at the HomoCon. Or as Joe. My. God. dubbed it, the “National Convention of Self-Loathing Homosexuals.”
The conference is sponsored by a group called, GOProud, an organization representing ‘gay conservatives and their allies.’
Isn’t McGuire charming? The very epitome of Leftist tolerance.
Ugly that is. It is nothing but raw, unabashed hatred, and sadly is ver prevalent among the Far Left. Sadder yet s that every day it seems the Far Left incorporates more of the mainstream Left. I wonder how long until the Leftists will be the overwhelming majority of the Democratic base? Hell, maybe they already are.

Greg Gutfeld Plans Muslim Gay Bar Next To Ground Zero Mosque – Daily Gut
So, the Muslim investors championing the construction of the new mosque near Ground Zero claim it’s all about strengthening the relationship between the Muslim and non-Muslim world.
As an American, I believe they have every right to build the mosque – after all, if they buy the land and they follow the law – who can stop them?
Which is, why, in the spirit of outreach, I’ve decided to do the same thing.
I’m announcing tonight, that I am planning to build and open the first gay bar that caters not only to the west, but also Islamic gay men. To best express my sincere desire for dialogue, the bar will be situated next to the mosque Park51, in an available commercial space.
This is not a joke. I’ve already spoken to a number of investors, who have pledged their support in this bipartisan bid for understanding and tolerance.

As you know, the Muslim faith doesn’t look kindly upon homosexuality, which is why I’m building this bar. It is an effort to break down barriers and reduce deadly homophobia in the Islamic world.
The goal, however, is not simply to open a typical gay bar, but one friendly to men of Islamic faith. An entire floor, for example, will feature non-alcoholic drinks, since booze is forbidden by the faith.
The bar will be open all day and night, to accommodate men who would rather keep their sexuality under wraps – but still want to dance.
Bottom line: I hope that the mosque owners will be as open to the bar, as I am to the new mosque. After all, the belief driving them to open up their center near Ground Zero, is no different than mine.
My place, however, will have better music.

Donald Douglas on the consequences of Wikileaks irresponsiblity
Donald Douglas looks at Wikileaks
At WSJ, “Rights Groups Join Criticism of WikiLeaks“:
A group of human-rights organizations is pressing WikiLeaks to do a better job of redacting names from thousands of war documents it is publishing, joining the list of critics that claim the Web site’s actions could jeopardize the safety of Afghans who aided the U.S. military.
The letter from five human-rights groups sparked a tense exchange in which WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange issued a tart challenge for the organizations to help with the massive task of removing names from thousands of documents, according to several of the organizations that signed the letter. The exchange shows how WikiLeaks and Mr. Assange risk being isolated from some of their most natural allies in the wake of the documents’ publication.
The human-rights groups involved are Amnesty International; Campaign for Innocent Victims in Conflict, or CIVIC; Open Society Institute, or OSI, the charitable organization funded by George Soros; Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission; and the Kabul office of International Crisis Group, or ICG.
The groups emailed WikiLeaks to say they were concerned for the safety of Afghans identified as helping the U.S. military in documents obtained by WikiLeaks, according to several of the groups. WikiLeaks has already published 76,000 of the documents and plans to publish up to 15,000 more.
Some of the already published documents included names that critics including the Pentagon claim could lead to harm for Afghans seen as helping the U.S. war effort. The Pentagon last week demanded that WikiLeaks hand over all the classified Afghan war documents it has.
“We have seen the negative, sometimes deadly ramifications for those Afghans identified as working for or sympathizing with international forces,” the human-rights groups wrote in their letter, according to a person familiar with it. “We strongly urge your volunteers and staff to analyze all documents to ensure that those containing identifying information are taken down or redacted.”
In his response to the letter signed by the human-rights organizations, Mr. Assange asked what the groups were doing to analyze the documents already published, and asked whether Amnesty in particular would provide staff to help redact the names of Afghan civilians, according to people familiar with the letter.
An Amnesty official replied to say that while the group has limited resources, it wouldn’t rule out the idea of helping, according to people familiar with the reply. The official suggested that Mr. Assange and the human-rights groups hold a conference call to discuss the matter.
Mr. Assange then replied: “I’m very busy and have no time to deal with people who prefer to do nothing but cover their asses. If Amnesty does nothing I shall issue a press release highlighting its refusal,” according to people familiar with the exchange.
Later, WikiLeaks posted on its Twitter account: “Pentagon wants to bankrupt us by refusing to assist review. Media won’t take responsibility. Amnesty won’t. What to do?”
In an email Monday, WikiLeaks declined to comment on the exchange with the human rights groups.
Taliban representatives have said publicly that they are searching the documents and plan to punish people who have helped U.S. forces.

Muslim columnists: Why yes, of course the Ground Zero Mosque is meant to provoke.
Via Hot Air This mosque will be the topic of my radio show tonight, and I make the point there that provocation IS one of the main purposes of this mega-mosque
What’s more, Raheel Raza and Tarek Fatah wrote in the Ottawa Citizen this weekend, no one can really deny the motivations of its sponsors. New York City already has 30 mosques, so it hardly requires one at the place where Muslim extremists murdered almost 3,000 people — including a number of Muslims. Raza and Fatah wonder how the organizers would react to a Serbian Orthodox church on the ground where 8,000 Muslims got slaughtered in Srebrenica, and whether they would be defending property rights and the freedom of religious expression in that case.
But mostly, the two authors wonder where the mosque’s sponsors got their money:
There are many questions that we would like to ask. Questions about where the funding is coming from? If this mosque is being funded by Saudi sources, then it is an even bigger slap in the face of Americans, as nine of the jihadis in the Twin Tower calamity were Saudis.
If Rauf is serious about building bridges, then he could have dedicated space in this so-called community centre to a church and synagogue, but he did not. We passed on this message to him through a mutual Saudi friend, but received no answer. He could have proposed a memorial to the 9/11 dead with a denouncement of the doctrine of armed jihad, but he chose not to.
It’s a repugnant thought that $100 million would be brought into the United States rather than be directed at dying and needy Muslims in Darfur or Pakistan.
On motivation, the authors insist that it’s purely spite and triumphalism:
The fact we Muslims know the idea behind the Ground Zero mosque is meant to be a deliberate provocation to thumb our noses at the infidel. The proposal has been made in bad faith and in Islamic parlance, such an act is referred to as “Fitna,” meaning “mischief-making” that is clearly forbidden in the Koran.
The Koran commands Muslims to, “Be considerate when you debate with the People of the Book” — i.e., Jews and Christians. Building an exclusive place of worship for Muslims at the place where Muslims killed thousands of New Yorkers is not being considerate or sensitive, it is undoubtedly an act of “fitna[.]“

Avalanche Of Rain And Mud Kills At Least 127 In China – Los Angeles Times
Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao on Sunday toured an area in north-central China racked by an avalanche of rain and mud that killed at least 127 people and left hundreds missing, the latest disaster in a summer that has brought the nation’s worst flooding in a decade.
Wen’s visit came as rescue teams franticly searched flooded homes for survivors in Zhouqu county in Gansu province. Authorities were reportedly trying to find 1,300 people, down from an earlier estimate of 2,000.
A torrential downpour began late Saturday in the province’s Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, an area dominated by steep and barren terrain. Most of its 135,000 residents are ethnic Tibetan herders and farmers.
Shortly after midnight, as residents slept, mountains of mud struck the area, smashing a small power station and wreaking havoc as the Bailong River overflowed its banks.
Half the county was left underwater and one village of 300 homes was buried under mud and debris, according to the official New China News Agency.

Peng Wei, head of the county’s fire department, told reporters that “the county was in a valley and the river runs in the middle.”
State-run television estimated that 50,000 people had been evacuated. Nearly 3,000 troops and 100 medical workers were converging on the scene, and helicopters surveyed the damage, officials said.
“Now the sludge has become the biggest problem to rescue operations,” one local official told the news agency. “It’s too thick to walk or drive through.”
Li Tiankui, a resident who lives near the Bailong, told the news service, “Someone said the fifth floor of my residential building had been submerged. People are busy looking for family members and friends.”
This year, 1,100 people have been killed and more than 600 have gone missing amid floods that have caused tens of billions of dollars in damage across 28 provinces and regions. Overall, about 875,000 homes have been destroyed, with more than 9 million residents evacuated.
Record-high rains have raised rivers in numerous regions to perilous levels, including the fast-flowing Yangtze River. Floodwaters filled the reservoir at the massive Three Gorges Dam to dangerous heights, officials said.
