Leftist City Council Member Throws Tantrum During Meeting
Leftist City Council Member Throws Tantrum During Meeting – Clark County Conservative
Vancouver, Washington – Vancouver city “Progressive” council member Jeanne Harris has once again erupted in anger and vitriol aimed towards a citizen during the Citizen Communications segment of the City Council Meeting.
Just weeks ago she lambasted Larry Patella over his right to free speech during the council meeting, resulting in a confrontation between her and fellow council member, Jeanne Stewart.
Ms Harris is also one of the three council members, joining Mayor Leavitt and Bart Hansen, who saw no problem with passing an ordinance restricting our right to free speech in political gatherings by placing prior notice limitations on such gatherings, even though no problems have ever occurred during such gatherings held be either left-wing or right-wing groups.
That ordinance did not pass as such and was rewritten to exclude political gatherings, which Ms. Harris clearly disagreed with.
I was in attendance at both meetings and Ms. Harris appeared visibly upset that she did not get her way to place limitations on gatherings that pertain to free speech rights for all.
At a subsequent town hall she once again became visibly upset with citizens over confronting Mayor Leavitt for his switch on campaigning on no tolls, admonishing the audience, most a bit older than she, as if they were third graders.
And now, once again, it is reported that not only did she throw a tantrum towards a citizen during the Citizen Communications segment, but that she stormed out of the council meeting and afterwards, angrily confronted fellow council member Jeanne Stewart in the hallway.
Mayor Timothy D. Leavitt and the Vancouver City council received a request today asking that the Council establish an Ethics Committee to review a complaint alleging a violation of the Council’s Code of Ethics policy by Councilmember Jeanne Harris during the September 13, 2010, Council meeting.
Councilmembers Jack Burkman and Larry Smith sent a letter via e-mail to the Mayor and Council as provided by the Council Code of Ethics policy 100-36 stating that they believed a violation of Section 6.0A of the Code, Standards of Conduct, that “Councilmembers will at all times treat each other with respect and dignity” occurred during the September 13 meeting. Burkman and Smith contend that Councilmember Harris’ actions toward fellow Councilmember Jeanne Stewart and Mayor Leavitt during the meeting were not respectful and did not “treat them with dignity.”
In asking that the Council establish an Ethics Committee at the next regular meeting consistent with Section 7.0 of the Code of Ethics policy Burkman and Smith ask that the Committee investigate the allegations and determine the appropriate action to be taken.
Mayor Leavitt said that Council will consider this request as an agenda item during the Monday September 20 Council meeting. “The Council will address the issues as outlined in the Code of Ethics policy,” he said.

Bloomberg: Poll Problems ‘A Royal Screw-Up’ – WFAN
There were major problems at the polls on primary day in New York and it’s all connected to the debut of the state’s new electronic voting machines. New York City spent $160 million on new voting machines, but the roll out was embarrassing.
Some polling places opened as much as four hours late and thousands may have been unable to cast ballots, reports CBS 2′s Marcia Kramer.
“That is a royal screw-up and it’s completely unacceptable,” Mayor Michael Bloomberg said.
Sources told CBS 2 that the list of problems was astonishing, including: broken machines, missing machines, missing emergency ballots and workers totally unprepared to assist voters and resolve technical glitches. And probably the most unforgivable was the fact that polling places opened hours late.
One polling place at 38 Water St., in the Dumbo section of Brooklyn was still closed at 8:30 Tuesday morning, two and a half hours after its scheduled 6 a.m. start.

Another polling place at 350 Fifth Ave. in Park Slope still wasn’t open at 8:15 a.m.
And most ironic, one at 339 8th St. – Camp Friendship – didn’t open until after 9, because the keys to open the voting machines didn’t arrive. That’s where Public Advocate Bill de Blasio votes and he was furious.
“Literally we have right now thousands from what I’ve heard already, could be 10,000 New Yorkers turned away, didn’t get to vote, may not get to vote, and that’s outrageous,” de Blasio said. “Unfortunately, this could decide the election in some cases, literally, which machines were working and which weren’t, could decide this election.”
Mayor Bloomberg blamed the board of elections. “The board is a remnant of the days when Tammany Hall ran New York. New Yorkers deserve better than this and the time has come to fix it,” Bloomberg said.
As public advocate, de Blasio said he’s going to do the oversight to try to fix the problems, but the elections in November are only seven weeks away.
“I got there at 6:20 a.m. They hadn’t plugged the machines in yet. They weren’t sure how to sign people in. They signed me in, they first gave me a Republican ballot instead of a Democratic ballot,” Judi Wind, a Lower East Side resident, told CBS 2?s Kathryn Brown.

Justice Inspector General Probing Black Panther Case – Washington Times
The Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division – in the wake of the New Black Panther Party case – is being investigated by the department’s office of inspector general to determine whether voting section employees have been harassed for participating in specific investigations or prosecutions.
In an end run around policy barring IG investigations of Justice Department litigators, Inspector General Glenn A. Fine said his office will review what types of cases are being investigated, whether there have been changes in enforcement policies and procedures, and whether the civil rights laws are being enforced in a non-discriminatory manner.
Christopher Coates, the veteran Justice Department voting section chief who recommended going forward on the civil complaint against the New Black Panther Party, was removed from his post and transferred to the U.S. attorney’s office in South Carolina. New Black Panther Party members had disrupted a Philadelphia polling place in the November 2008 elections, one of whom intimidated would-be voters with a nightstick.
J. Christian Adams, the lead attorney in the case, resigned, citing what he called concerns about the Justice Department’s refusal to prosecute the New Black Panther Party case after a federal judge in Philadelphia had ruled in favor of the government’s case.

Mr. Adams accused Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. of dropping the charges for racially motivated reasons, saying that he and other Justice Department lawyers working on the case were ordered to dismiss it.
In a letter Monday to Republican Reps. Lamar Smith of Texas and Frank R. Wolf of Virginia, Mr. Fine said he has stated publicly “on many occasions that I believe the provision of the Inspector General’s Act that removes the OIG’s jurisdiction investigation of department attorneys’ handling of litigation should be changed.” The Washington Times obtained a copy of the letter.
“But unless and until the law is changed, I have an obligation to follow it,” he said. “However, we believe we do have the authority to conduct the broader program review… regarding the Civil Rights Division’s enforcement of voting rights law, and we intend to conduct such a review.”
Mr. Fine noted that while the review will include information about such cases as the New Black Panther Party matter and others, it will be focused “more broadly on the overall enforcement of civil rights laws by the Voting Section rather than on a single case.”
Mr. Smith and Mr. Wolf had raised concerns in July and August regarding the dismissal by the Justice Department of a civil complaint against the New Black Panther Party, in addition to broader allegations regarding the civil rights division’s enforcement of federal voting rights laws.

Ravens Spoil Jets Opener, 10-9 – Associated Press
The Baltimore Ravens spoiled the New York Jets’ opener in their new home with a 10-9 victory.
Wide receiver Anquan Boldin, Baltimore’s key offseason acquisition, toyed with New York’s vaunted secondary for 110 yards on seven catches Monday night. The Ravens’ defense outplayed its more ballyhooed rival by allowing only 176 yards and nearly blanking the Jets on third downs; New York was 1 for 11 in that department.
The $1.6 billion New Meadowlands Stadium occasionally rocked with chants of J-E-T-S, but the Ravens silenced them and curbed the enthusiasm created by several additions to New York’s roster, plus the team’s no-holds-barred preseason TV series.

Playing most of the game in a pounding rain, the Chiefs turned the night into the confidence-building coming-out party they had been hoping for since the schedule came out in April.
By beating the four-time defending AFC West champions, they proclaimed an end to a three-year period that was one of the darkest in team history.

Feds Spent $800,000 Of Economic Stimulus On African Genital-Washing Program – CNS
The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), a division of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), spent $823,200 of economic stimulus funds in 2009 on a study by a UCLA research team to teach uncircumcised African men how to wash their genitals after having sex.
The genitalia-washing program is part of a larger $12-million UCLA study examining how to better encourage Africans to undergo voluntary HIV testing and counseling – however, only the penis-washing study received money from the 2009 economic stimulus law. The washing portion of the study is set to end in 2011.
“NIH Announces the Availability of Recovery Act Funds for Competitive Revision Applications,” the grant abstract states. “We propose to evaluate the feasibility of a post-coital genital hygiene study among men unwilling to be circumcised in Orange Farm, South Africa.”
Because AIDS researchers have been unsuccessful in convincing most adult African men to undergo circumcision, the UCLA study proposes to determine whether researchers can develop an after-sex genitalia-washing regimen that they can then convince uncircumcised African men to follow.

“The aim of the proposed feasibility study is to evaluate the feasibility and acceptability of a post-coital male genital hygiene procedure, which participants will be asked to practice immediately post-coitus or at least 12 hours after,” reads the abstract.
Entitled “Community-Based HIV VCT: South Africa,” the name of the broader umbrella project, the program plans to test how well received the penis-washing regimen is among South African men.
If most of the men in the study wash their genitals after sex, are willing to do so after the study ends, and report that their partners accept the regimen, the researchers will develop another study to see if the “penile cleansing procedure” actually works to prevent HIV infections.
“If we find that men are able to practice consistent washing practices after sex, we will plan to test whether this might protect men from becoming HIV infected in a later study,” the grant says.
The study’s lead investigator Dr. Thomas J. Coates was the fourth highest-funded researcher in the country in 2002 and is currently conducting HIV research on three continents.

College Officials Shut Down Conservative Group After Seeing Anti-Obama Literature – OPP
On Tuesday September 7, 2010 at around 11:00am one Palm Beach State College (PBSC) student and two Young Americans for Freedom (YAF) members, state chairman Daniel P. Diaz and state vice chairman Eddie Shaffer, were shut down and had campus police called on them after tabling and recruiting during club rush at the College. The PBSC student, Christina Beattie, had received prior permission from college administrator Olivia Ford-Morris to promote her organization on campus via telephone and email communication.
On the day of club rush, officials approached the group and after seeing information about the organization and its ideals criticizing Barack Obama’s economic policy. Ms. Ford-Morris was visibly disturbed by the material presented, published by the Heritage Foundation, criticizing President Obama’s administration. College officials then called the campus police to assure the group left campus. Ms. Ford-Morris denied having ever talked to Ms. Beattie about giving permission to the organization to be a part of PBSC club rush.
“I was shocked and offended by her dishonesty. She outright denied giving me permission to table at Club Rush simply because she disagreed with my beliefs! The fact is, she was using her administrative power to silence the conservative opposition.” said Christina Beattie.
Christina Beattie, a student at PBSC has been the lead organizer of a weeklong recruitment event for YAF. Christina saw a need for a conservative club on campus and decided to create a YAF Chapter. Beattie inquired with college Student Activities Coordinator, Ms. Olivia Ford-Morris, via email about being allowed to recruit at the college rush. To Christina’s surprise Ms. Ford-Morris called her and allowed the group to table at the event.
Other groups on campus attended the event and tabled, but had not registered with the student activities coordinator. These groups remained untouched and were allowed to recruit even without permission. The Film Club, one of the groups not authorized to participate in the event, declined to comment for fear of reprisal from college administration.
Daniel P. Diaz commented that “It is extremely frustrating that when a conservative organization like YAF tries to start a chapter on a public university, administrators who proclaim that colleges are the market place of ideas proceed to be intolerant and censor views contrary to the liberal ideology. The public should be outraged at ideologically driven college faculties and as a community we should demand that all views receive the same outlet on college campuses. Call your local college and demand free speech!”

Light bulbs sprang from the brilliant mind of Thomas Edison. But his legacy is coming to an end. General Electric, the company that he founded, is closing America’s last factory for making incandescent light bulbs, victim of liberal environmental politics and zealotry.
Sadly, not only will the workers be losing their jobs but the boon created by their replacements, compact fluorescents, will not be realized in America.

It’s a first for McDonald County Undersheriff Bud Gow: Never has the southwest Missouri lawman had inmates break out of jail and then try to sneak back in.
Gow’s best guess about the motives of the two men who briefly went on the lam late Tuesday is that they wanted to buy some drugs, have a good time and get back before anyone noticed. On Wednesday, both were in isolation.
