Illinois League Of Women Voters Big Shot Who Bashed Pledge Of Allegiance, Is Former ACORN Worker – The Lid

It happened Wednesday night at the beginning of a debate between Democratic incumbent Melissa Bean, GOP challenger Joe Walsh and Green Party candidate Bill Scheurer.

The debate for Illinois 8th congressional district took place at Grayslake Central High School. While League of Women Voters moderator Kathy Tate-Bradish began explaining the rules of the debate an audience member raised his hand and (when called upon) asked if they were going to start with the Pledge of Allegiance. When she said no, the audience booed and almost all in the crowd of more than 300 stood and enthusiastically recited it anyway.

Tate-Bradish, who joined in the pledge, issued a scolding when the crowd finished saying they are not allowed to disrespect her.

Ms Tate-Bradish took offense to the move and blamed it on the GOP candidate.

What seemed like a unanimous spontaneous show of Patriotism, gave Ms Tate-Bradish an opportunity to criticize the GOP Candidate in the press, saying that it was all the fault of the unruly republicans, the Executive director of the group echoed her sentiments. What the press didn’t report that both the moderator and the Executive Director have been very active in the progressive movement.

Ms Tate-Bradish, the moderator was very involved in the Illinois effort to make Barak Obama president, she even hosted campaign events for Obama in her own home.

Illinois League of Women Voters Executive Director Jan Czarnik said what happened at the debate and subsequent criticism directed at moderator Kathy Tate-Bradish was an attempt by supporters of Republican candidate Joe Walsh and tea party members to bully the organization.

By all of the press reports almost all of the crowd stood up to cite the pledge, so is Czarnik saying that Democrats don’t believe in reciting the pledge?

I am sure her criticism of Republicans and the Tea Party had absolutely nothing to do with the Fact she used to work for progressive mainstays such as ACORN’s Project Vote, and the Progressive People for the American Way. Below is the notice of Ms Czarnik’s hiring by the League.

“It’s a phony patriotism issue is what it is,” she said. “They must think it helps their campaign.”

Walsh campaign manager Nick Provenzano said he still did not understand why Tate-Bradish did not appear to welcome the Pledge of Allegiance suggestion. He said it was spontaneous and not orchestrated by Walsh’s campaign.

“That neutral stance (by Tate-Bradish) toward the Pledge of Allegiance is troublesome,” he said.

…Island Lake resident Joseph Ptak, a Walsh supporter, claimed Friday he asked for the pledge at the debate. Provenzano said he was not certain who made the request.

Ptak, 58, a U.S. Air Force veteran, said the pledge was a proper way to begin the event that was in a high school and had student participation. He said many veterans were in the audience, and he objects to Czarnik questioning the request’s sincerity.

“I’m a Joe Walsh supporter, but first and foremost I’m an American,” Ptak said.

According to its website, the mission of the Illinois League of Woman Voters says that it is supposed to be non-partisan:

The League takes positions on issues, but neither supports nor opposes any political party or candidate (appointed or elected) for public office.

Judging by their backgrounds and their reaction to a spontaneous public display of patriotism, neither Jan Czarnik nor Kathy Tate-Bradish fit a reasonable definition of non-partisan.

Op-Ed: They Hate Our Guts (And They’re Drunk On Power) – P. J. O’Rourke

They Hate Our Guts (And They’re Drunk On Power) – P. J. O’Rourke

Perhaps you’re having a tiny last minute qualm about voting Republican. Take heart. And take the House and the Senate. Yes, there are a few flakes of dander in the fair tresses of the GOP’s crowning glory—an isolated isolationist or two, a hint of gold buggery, and Christine O’Donnell announcing that she’s not a witch. (I ask you, has Hillary Clinton ever cleared this up?) Fret not over Republican peccadilloes such as the Tea Party finding the single, solitary person in Nevada who couldn’t poll ten to one against Harry Reid. Better to have a few cockeyed mutts running the dog pound than Michael Vick.

I take it back. Using the metaphor of Michael Vick for the Democratic party leadership implies they are people with a capacity for moral redemption who want to call good plays on the legislative gridiron. They aren’t. They don’t. The reason is simple. They hate our guts.

They don’t just hate our Republican, conservative, libertarian, strict constructionist, family values guts. They hate everybody’s guts. And they hate everybody who has any. Democrats hate men, women, blacks, whites, Hispanics, gays, straights, the rich, the poor, and the middle class.

Democrats hate Democrats most of all. Witness the policies that Democrats have inflicted on their core constituencies, resulting in vile schools, lawless slums, economic stagnation, and social immobility. Democrats will do anything to make sure that Democratic voters stay helpless and hopeless enough to vote for Democrats.

Whence all this hate? Is it the usual story of love gone wrong? Do Democrats have a mad infatuation with the political system, an unhealthy obsession with an idealized body politic? Do they dream of capturing and ravishing representational democracy? Are they crazed stalkers of our constitutional republic?

No. It’s worse than that. Democrats aren’t just dateless dweebs clambering upon the Statue of Liberty carrying a wilted bouquet and trying to cop a feel. Theirs is a different kind of love story. Power, not politics, is what the Democrats love. Politics is merely a way to power’s heart. When politics is the technique of seduction, good looks are unnecessary, good morals are unneeded, and good sense is a positive liability. Thus Democrats are the perfect Lotharios. And politics comes with that reliable boost for pathetic egos, a weapon: legal monopoly on force. If persuasion fails to win the day, coercion is always an option.

Armed with the panoply of lawmaking, these moonstruck fools for power go about in a jealous rage. They fear power’s charms may be lavished elsewhere, even for a moment.

Democrats hate success. Success could supply the funds for a power elopement. Fire up the Learjet. Flight plan: Grand Cayman. Democrats hate failure too. The true American loser laughs at legal monopoly on force. He’s got his own gun.

Democrats hate productivity, lest production be outsourced to someplace their beloved power can’t go. And Democrats also hate us none-too-productive drones in our cubicles or behind the counters of our service economy jobs. Tax us as hard as they will, we modest earners don’t generate enough government revenue to dress and adorn the power that Democrats worship.

Democrats hate stay-at-home spouses, no matter what gender or gender preference. Democratic advocacy for feminism, gay marriage, children’s rights, and “reproductive choice” is simply a way to invade -power’s little realm of domestic private life and bring it under the domination of Democrats.

Democrats hate immigrants. Immigrants can’t stay illegal because illegality puts immigrants outside the legal monopoly on force. But immigrants can’t become legal either. They’d prosper and vote Republican.

Democrats hate America being a world power because world power gives power to the nation instead of to Democrats.

And Democrats hate the military, of course. Soldiers set a bad example. Here are men and women who possess what, if they chose, could be complete control over power. Yet they treat power with honor and respect. Members of the armed forces fight not to seize power for themselves but to ensure that power can bestow its favors upon all Americans.

This is not an election on November 2. This is a restraining order. Power has been trapped, abused and exploited by Democrats. Go to the ballot box and put an end to this abusive relationship. And let’s not hear any nonsense about letting the Democrats off if they promise to get counseling.

Meet the New Marxists, Same as the Old Marxists

I have long-held that the Democratic Party, having become overwhelmingly a liberal party, is now become increasingly Leftist. The “fringe” of the Democratic Party, the self-styled Progressives, is actually driving the Democrats ideological bus in many cases, and Progressive is just another word for Communist.

For those who disagree that progressive=communist, consider the stated aims of Progressives.

State run health care, no private insurers, no options, no choices.

Massive redistribution of wealth, to fund more entitlement programs, and more dependence on government

Environmental, and economic policies that crush businesses, property rights, and personal freedoms in the name of being “green”.

Ideals that sacrifice individual rights on the altar of “Social Justice”. Progressives seek more collectivism, and individualism, is the enemy of their beloved collectivist utopian dreams.

Bob Belvedere writes of another commonality between the old and new Marxists. The tactic of demonizing, and questioning the sanity of those who dare oppose the Progressives aims.

Having lived through the last thirty years of the Cold War and having begun a serious study of Soviet Russia during the last fifteen years of it, I can see the possibility that the Left in America may be adopting one of the main tactics employed against the dissidents during the Brezhnev Era: declaring those who oppose The State to be mentally ill.*  A good number of these innocent people were put in the Psikhushka, the name for Soviet psychiatric hospitals [for a very good, short history of this evil practice, please click here] where they were subjected to ‘various forms of restraint, electric shocks, electromagnetic torture, radiation torture, entrapment, servitude, a range of drugs (such as narcotics, tranquilizers, and insulin) that cause long lasting side effects, and sometimes involved beatings… inhumane uses of medical procedures such as lumbar punctures’.  Others were stripped of their offices and privileges and, in a sense, declared unfit for anything but manual labor.  Some were sent to the Gulags.

Granted, unlike in the old USSR, the American Bolshes have been, so far, more subtle about it, but, still, it seems to be happening.

Case in point: the comments made yesterday by NPR CEO Vivian Schiller, as related by Mark Memmott, writer at the NPR blog, The Two-Way [tip of the fedora to Memeorandum][emphasis mine]:

Fired NPR news analyst Juan Williams should have kept his feeling about Muslims between himself and “his psychiatrist or his publicist,” the network’s CEO told an audience at the Atlanta Press Club earlier today.

Bob gives more examples, and surely we can recognize that the Progressives have been doing this for years. Just try to think of any Conservative voice that has not been attacked as loony, nutty, crazy, dangerous, potentially violent, or a threat by the Progressives. Tea Partiers, bloggers, columnists, politicians, etc. have all been accused of horrible things, simply for opposing the Left’s aims. They use intimidation, threats, and character assassination to silence us, let us say no more!

The New Marxists, are no different than the old Marxists really. They just do not hold the power that Stalin or Lennin or Mao did, not yet. See, the Constitution checks them, but they have been assaulting that for decades now, andwill continue to do so, unless we, the People, do our job on November 2nd!

Illegal Aliens Canvass For Votes In Washington State – Fox News

When Maria Gianni is knocking on voters’ doors, she’s not bashful about telling people she is in the country illegally. She knows it’s a risk to advertise to strangers that she’s here illegally – but one worth taking in what she sees as a crucial election.

The 42-year-old is one of dozens of volunteers – many of them illegal aliens – canvassing neighborhoods in the Seattle area trying to get naturalized citizens to cast a ballot for candidates like Democratic Sen. Patty Murray, who is in a neck-to-neck race with Republican Dino Rossi.

Pramila Jayapal, head of OneAmerica Votes, says the campaign is about empowering immigrants who may not feel like they can contribute to a campaign because they can’t vote.

“Immigrants really do matter,” Jayapal said. “If we can’t vote ourselves, we’re gonna knock on doors, or get family members to vote.”

So far the illegal aliens going door-to-door aren’t meeting opposition. Craig Keller, an organizer for Respect WA, a group pushing for stricter immigration law in the Washington, said he doesn’t mind illegal immigrants volunteering for vote drives, he just wants to make sure mistakes on the voter rolls don’t allow them to vote.

“Anybody can go out and wave a sign, but when it comes to who’s making the choices, there’s no question they need to be citizens,” Keller said.

In close elections across the country, the immigrant and minority vote is considered key for candidates, especially Democrats.

Earlier this week in Nevada, a television ad urging Latinos not to vote sparked outcry from Democrats, who called it a dirty trick meant to keep Hispanics home and boost Republican candidates. Univision and Telemundo – the nation’s two largest Spanish-language networks – canceled the ad, which the Republican group Latinos for Reform had planned to eventually run in Nevada, Florida, California, Texas and Colorado through the Nov. 2 election.

Seattle is home to a wide array of immigrant communities, from Latinos to east Africans and Asians.

Congress declined this year to consider overhauling the country’s immigration law, much to the chagrin of immigrant advocates who had expected Democrats to do so by now.

Still, OneAmerica Votes launched one of the largest get-out-the-vote campaigns in the state on behalf of Democratic candidates. The organization is an offshoot of OneAmerica, one of the state’s largest and the most influential immigrant-rights advocacy group.

Through home visits, phone banks and mailings the organization is aiming to reach about 40,000 registered voters in the Seattle area in an attempt to help Democrats gain ground in key races. Volunteers include other types of people who can’t vote, such as legal permanent residents.

About 150 volunteers rolled out in nine cities across Washington this past week, knocking on 3,000 doors.

Thousands Evacuated As Typhoon Megi Nears China – NewsMeat

More than 150,000 people were evacuated in Fujian province in China’s southeast and tens of thousands of fishing boats were called back to port, the official Xinhua news agency quoted flood control authorities as saying.

At least another 10,000 were evacuated in neighbouring Guangdong province, authorities there said, with forecasters predicting the storm would hit somewhere along China’s southern coastline late Friday or early Saturday.

The State Oceanic Administration issued a yellow storm surge warning, saying that Megi could cause a “50-year storm surge” if it landed as a severe typhoon.

“The storm surge could be so devastating that buildings, docks, villages and cities could be destroyed by it,” said Bai Yiping, director of South China Sea Forecasting Centre of the State Oceanic Administration.

Hong Kong shuttered oil terminals as the monster storm bore down.

Megi, which has already killed at least 27 people in the Philippines, was showing “signs of intensification”, the Hong Kong Observatory said Thursday.

“At present we estimate its intensity at around 175 kilometres per hour (110 miles per hour),” said forecaster Lee Tsz-cheung.

“We still cannot rule out the possibility of Megi intensifying further.”

Chinese authorities have issued a red alert, the highest of a four-step warning system, saying the typhoon could cause huge waves that could devastate coastal sea areas, including Guangdong, Fujian and the Taiwan Strait.

Xinhua, citing the State Oceanic Administration, said that Guangdong could see storm-triggered waves of up to seven metres (21 feet).

The red alert gives local authorities six hours to evacuate residents at risk and implement storm precautions, order schools, shops and airports to close and all vessels to return to port.

Torrential rains sparked by the typhoon killed at least two people and left one missing on one of Japan’s southern islands, media reports said.

As of 3 pm (0700 GMT) Thursday, Megi was estimated to be 430 kilometres southeast of Hong Kong as it moved slowly across the South China Sea.

Five oil terminals on Tsing Yi island off Hong Kong’s Kowloon peninsula were shut down, forcing tankers to anchor offshore and suspending marine fuel deliveries.

Daily Benefactor Columnists – Who Says Islam Is Totalitarian? – More Op-Eds

——————— CLICK HERE TO VISIT THE DAILY BENEFACTOR———————

——————————————————- TOP STORY ——————————————————-

Who Says Islam Is Totalitarian? – Andrew C. McCarthy

Who says Islam is a totalitarian doctrine? Well, Geert Wilders does, of course. As the editors point out in Monday’s superb National Review Online editorial, the Dutch parliamentarian has even had the temerity to compare Islam with Nazism. Strong stuff indeed, and for speaking it, Wilders has earned the disdain not just of the usual Muslim Brotherhood satellite organizations but even of many on the political right.

Though they support free-speech rights, and thus grudgingly concede that Wilders should be permitted to say such things, they want you to understand they find his sentiments deplorable. Taking the politically correct view, they assure you that Islam is not a problem at all – it’s just those bad extremists and Islamists who have, as the Bush-era refrain went, “hijacked one of the world’s great religions.”

Emblematic is the estimable Charles Krauthammer, who has described Wilders’s views as “extreme, radical, and wrong.” Dr. K.’s complaint, expressed on Fox News back in March (and published on the Corner), was that Wilders conflates “Islam and Islamism.” The latter, Krauthammer insists, is “an ideology of a small minority which holds that the essence of Islam is jihad, conquest, forcing people into accepting a certain very narrow interpretation [of Islam].”

As I take a backseat to no one in my admiration of Dr. K., I wonder what he’d make of Bernard Lewis’s take on this subject. Professor Lewis is the distinguished scholar widely and aptly admired, including by Wilders’s detractors, as the West’s preeminent authority on Islam. At Pajamas Media, Andrew Bostom has unearthed a 1954 International Affairs essay in which Professor Lewis quite matter-of-factly compared Islam with Communism. The essay, in fact, was called, “Communism and Islam.”

In it, Lewis considered “the very nature of Islamic society, tradition, and thought,” and concluded that its principal defining characteristic is the “authoritarianism, perhaps we may even say the totalitarianism, of the Islamic political tradition.” Expanding on this, he wrote:

There are no parliaments or representative assemblies of any kind, no councils or communes, no chambers of nobility or estates, no municipalities in the history of Islam; nothing but the sovereign power, to which the subject owed complete and unwavering obedience as a religious duty imposed by the Holy Law… For the last thousand years, the political thinking of Islam has been dominated by such maxims as “tyranny is better than anarchy,” and “whose power is established, obedience to him is incumbent.”

But what about the conceit that undergirds current American foreign policy, the notion that Islam and Western democracy are perfectly compatible? Lewis dismissed the idea as so much elite wishful thinking:

Many attempts have been made to show that Islam and democracy are identical – attempts usually based on a misunderstanding of Islam or democracy or both. This sort of argument expresses a need of the uprooted Muslim intellectual who is no longer satisfied with or capable of understanding traditional Islamic values, and who tries to justify, or rather, restate, his inherited faith in terms of the fashionable ideology of the day. It is an example of the romantic and apologetic presentation of Islam that is a recognized phase in the reaction of Muslim thought to the impact of the West.

Clearly, the ensuing half-century has found Western intellectuals – regardless of political bent – joining romantic forces with their uprooted Muslim counterparts. Thus the accusation by Dr. Krauthammer, to take a prominent but by no means singular example, that Wilders fails to perceive the distinction – I’d call it a hoped-for distinction – between Islam and Islamism. Yet this accusation itself conflates Islam with Muslims, as well as Islamists with violent jihadists. This confusion leads Krauthammer to surmise both (a) that only a small minority of Muslims believe jihad is “the essence of Islam,” and (b) that because most Muslims in the West are not terrorists, it should be “obvious” that they are not Islamists.

This is wrong on several levels. First, as Robert Spencer explains, “Jihad… is a key element of the Islamic faith according to every single Islamic authority on the planet.” To deny that it is the “essence of Islam” – which is how the prophet Mohammed regarded it – is to deny a basic fact. And though, as Spencer acknowledges, jihad is subject to varying interpretations, Lewis is clear on the preponderant construction. As he has recounted several times, most recently in The Middle East: A Brief History of the Last 2,000 Years, “The overwhelming majority of early authorities… citing relevant passages in the Qur’an and in the tradition, discuss jihad in military terms.” This jibes, to quote Ibn Warraq, with “the celebrated Dictionary of Islam,” which describes jihad as an “incumbent religious duty,” and defines it as “a religious war with those who are unbelievers in the mission of Muhammad.”

Spencer echoes Lewis when he elaborates that “all the mainstream sects and schools of Islamic jurisprudence teach as a matter of faith that Islam is intrinsically political and that Muslims must wage war against unbelievers and subjugate them under the rule of Islamic law.” The fact that most Muslims do not engage in violent jihad, whether out of practicality, indifference, or what have you, does not change what Islamic doctrine says. Nor does it mean these Muslims are “rejecting” that mandate. They are ignoring it.

Moreover, as I’ve noted on several occasions, the point of jihad is to spread sharia, the Islamic legal system whose installation is the necessary precondition to creating an Islamic society. That need not be done by violent means. In fact, the Muslim Brotherhood, the world’s most influential Islamist organization, maintains that America and Europe will be “conquered” not by violence but by dawa – the proselytism of Islam by non-violent (or, more accurate, pre-violent) means, such as infiltration of our institutions. Spencer calls this phenomenon “stealth jihad.”

The Catholic Church for years worked to bring about such changes among the Irish immigrants and their offspring, just as various religious and secular organizations among the Jews, among blacks, and among other groups worked to bring about changes within their respective groups.

Bet on the latter. All indications coming out of the White House suggest that if Democrats suffer major losses, the president and his top aides will resolutely refuse to reconsider the policies – national health care, stimulus, runaway spending – that led to their defeat.

Rioters Rampage, Protesters Block French Airport – Boston Herald

Workers opposed to a higher retirement age blocked access to airports in Paris and around the country on Wednesday as hooded youths smashed store windows amid clouds of tear gas outside the capital.

Riot police in black body armor forced striking workers away from blocked fuel depots in western France, restoring gasoline to areas where pumps were dry after weeks of protests over the government proposal raising the age from 60 to 62.

Riot officers in the Paris suburb of Nanterre and the southeastern city of Lyon sprayed tear gas but appeared unable to stop the violence.

After months of largely peaceful disruptions, many protests erupted into violence this week over the government’s push to raise the retirement age from 60 to 62. President Nicolas Sarkozy vowed that his conservative party would pass the reform in a Senate vote expected Thursday.

Many workers feel the change would be a first step in eroding France’s social benefits – which include long vacations, contracts that make it hard for employers to lay off workers and a state-subsidized health care system – in favor of “American-style capitalism.”

Sarkozy said Wednesday that he would “carry the retirement reform through to the end.” And despite France’s tolerance for a long tradition of strikes and protest, official patience appeared to be waning after weeks of snarled traffic, cancelled flights and dwindling gasoline supplies and, now, rising urban violence.

Protesters blocked the main road leading to one of two terminals at Orly Airport on Wednesday, then moved to block the road to the other terminal, the ADP Paris airport authority said.

At Charles de Gaulle airport north of Paris, the nation’s biggest, protesters sang the French national anthem before pushing through a police barricade.

“It is like we are on another planet,” said Canadian traveler Olivier Lejour, waiting to take off from Charles de Gaulle. While he said it was “fun” to watch, he said the protests disrupted his efforts to work in Paris.

The CGT Transport union says protests also shut down the Clermont-Ferrand airport in the south and disrupted airports in Nice and Nantes.

With nearly a third of France’s gas stations dry, authorities stepped in without incident overnight to force open three fuel depots blocked by striking workers for days, Interior Minister Brice Hortefeux said.

At one site in the western town of Donges, police formed a corridor along the road leading to the depot to allow trucks to pass in and out. Video footage showed officers peacefully herding striking workers away from one depot.

Hortefeux warned that the blockades threatened emergency services and could have grave consequences for the entire French economy and public health and safety.

“The right to strike does not give anyone the right to prevent people from working or the right to block things, or the right to prevent travel,” Hortefeux said.

The Code Pink Killing Fields: How Far Left Activists & Barbara Boxer Aided Enemy Agents In Iraq – Gateway Pundit

On November 22, 2004, the socialist anti-American group Code Pink sent out a plea to supporters to help send assistance to the “refugees” from Fallujah, Iraq.

Today, as CODEPINK was busily preparing a year-end humanitarian mission to Iraq, we received an urgent message. It was from our dear friend Dahr Jamail, an amazing American independent journalist who has been risking his life to get the true story of Fallujah to the American public:

“I have just come from a refugee camp in Baghdad with families from Fallujah. The suffering is beyond description. It’s worse than anything you’ve read or anything I’ve written so far.

This is a humanitarian crisis. They need medicines for their camp and the other camps immediately. We have an organization set up of doctors who can distribute the medicines and supplies. BUT WE NEED THEM NOW! THIS CANNOT WAIT!”
Solidarity,
Dahr

The next day, on November 23, 2004, Code Pink announced that they had raised nearly $20,000 in one day for “refugess” from Fallujah.

Yesterday we put out an urgent call for aid to refugees from Fallujah, with an initial goal of raising $20,000. The response was amazing. From a $10 donation from a high school student to a $1,000 gift from a medical doctor, the compassion of the American people began to shine through the fog of war. In less than 24 hours, we surpassed our goal and that’s just the online donations!

In addition, a humanitarian aid group donated 300 pounds of priority medical supplies, Cliff Bar is donating high-protein bars for the children, an Iraqi-American returning home offered to be our on-the-ground liaison and people are pledging to do holiday house parties to raise more funds.

When we contacted journalist Dahr Jamail to tell him to good news, he was elated. “Holy cow, $20,000 already? I’m catching my breath. This is so beautiful.” Dahr had just returned from a visit to the Red Crescent, who said they could only care for “at most” 60,000 refugees. “This leaves at least 140,000 refugees, mostly women and children, with no support,” said Dahr. “These supplies will be their lifeline.”

On December 3, 2004, Code Pink announced that after only one week into their campaign they had sent $30,000 to Iraq. Their contact Dahr Jamail claimed the donations bought blankets, warm clothing, food, portable heaters, cooking stoves, stove and heater fuel, antibiotics, needles, sterile gloves, pain medications, gauze, basic first aid materials, water tanks, pipes, water pumps and water purification materials. Dahr Jamail and Code Pink also claimed that these supplies had already distributed to the refugees. The radicals at Code Pink must run an amazingly efficient operation. We’ll discuss Dahr Jamail below.

Code Pink later reported that they had collected $100,000 in donations. It was also reported that “humanitarian groups” such as the Middle East Children’s Alliance and Operation USA contributed $500,000 worth of medical supplies.

Code Pink was ready to deliver their supplies and donations to the Fallujah refugees. But there was a problem. They needed assistance from Congress to approve their trip. In stepped Senator Barabara Boxer (D-CA) along with Representatives Raul Grijalva (D-AZ), Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) and Henry Waxman (D-CA). These radical members of Congress signed letters to approve their trip to Jordan and the Iraqi border.

These Congressional members wrote this letter despite the fact that in September 2004, Code Pink participated in and just endorsed the Beirut communique, which supported “the right of the people of Iraq and Palestine to resist the occupations” and called for “the unconditional withdrawal of US and ‘coalition’ forces from Iraq.”

With their signatures on the Beirut Communique Code Pink condoned the murder of US soldiers and Marines. Yet Barbara Boxer and Congressional leftists approved of their trip to the Iraqi border.

Obama’s Budget Deficit: Still $1.3 Trillion – USA Today

The Treasury Department reports what we already knew: the federal government owes a LOT of money. $1,294,000,000,000, to be exact. And that’s just for 2010. Overall, the national debt is $13.6 trillion, or $13,600,000,000,000.

The $1.29 trillion is the official U.S. budget deficit for the 2010 fiscal year, which ended two weeks ago. It’s slightly lower than originally projected, thanks to higher corporate income taxes and lower government bailout spending than anticipated. But that’s little solace to President Obama as Democrats head into the 2010 midterm elections.

“Even though that suggests that we’re moving in the right direction, the president thinks we still need to do a lot of work in order to get our fiscal house in order,” said deputy press secretary Bill Burton. “He’s taken a number of steps to do that already. And he’s going to continue to work hard to make sure that we’re on the right track.”

When the year began, the White House projected the deficit would be more than $1.5 trillion. Last year’s deficit was a record $1.4 trillion. As a share of the nation’s economy, those are the two largest deficits since World War II. The final figure equals 8.9% of the nation’s economy, down from 10% last year.

“By carefully managing the emergency initiatives to stop the financial panic and by accelerating our exit from those investments, we have significantly lowered the cost to taxpayers, bringing the costs of the financial rescue down by more than $240 billion this year,” Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner said. “However, we still have a long way to go to repair the damage to the economy and address the long-term deficits caused by the crisis.”

The next shoe to drop in the deficit dance will come in December, when a bipartisan commission appointed by Obama and congressional leaders issues its recommendations for spending cuts, tax increases and other ways to slash the deficit. If 14 of the panel’s 18 members agree on anything, it will go to Congress for a vote.

Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell used the Treasury announcement to tweak the White House on an issue that will come up when Congress returns in November: whether to extend the massive tax cuts signed by George W. Bush nearly a decade ago. Obama wants to limit the tax cut to income below $250,000.

“After adding trillions more to the national debt, Democrats in Washington now want to take more money from the struggling Americans who need it most, and from the small-business owners across our country who create jobs,” McConnell said. “Saying no to more spending, more taxes and more debt is exactly what our constituents have been asking us to do. So we’ll keep doing it.”
