Across this nation our 2nd amendment rights have been taken. Our rights to bear arms which were written in the bill of rights to PROTECT WE THE PEOPLE from tyranny of government, have been neutered. We can’t (In some states) possess AUTOMATIC firearms. We can’t have magazines over 10 rounds, we must “Register” our firearms with the government, we must wait ten days for the okay from Government before we can get a firearm. We can not carry the firearm loaded on our person without big brothers acceptance.. The list goes on.
Some of the laws that have been passed in certain states make sense to some. To me, I’d just as soon see EVERYONE carrying a gun. The playing field would be more level than it is now. The questions seems to be “Why do you need a gun?” or “Why do you need a magazine that holds that many bullets?” or Why do you need to carry a gun?” these questions are ridiculous on their face but they are the very questions being asked by the grabbers.

I love to turn the tables on the anti’s. When they ask “Why do you need to carry a gun” I Ask them WHY DON’T YOU? Do you have such disregard for my life that you don’t have any way of defending it other than hiding? I care about your life and I have the means to keep you safe, why don’t you feel the same way?…. That usually gets a shrug of the shoulders and a pfft… But it get them thinking!
OH yes guns, as a liberal democrat I own one and plan to purchase and REGISTER another pistol.
It’s NOT about how the second amendment has been abridged, because it has not. There are MORE guns in the possession of the citizenry in this country per capita than any nation in the world.
Your guns have NOT been taken away from you, nor has your ammunition, nor your right to carry and carry concealed. Despite these facts, I wish to remind you that this is a civilized society, that the days of Dodge City and shoot em up on the streets of Laredo are past us.
Yes there are people committing crimes with guns, but the FBI statistics tell us that crime is WAY DOWN. I don’t care if you own a gun…but don’t let your belief system get TOO far ahead of the facts, you have been told by some folk for the last 20 years that the Democrats are coming for your guns, well I personally, who have been GOING to Democratic precinct meetings in 3 different states for 30 years have NEVER EVER heard anybody propose or solicit support for
any “Taking” of guns. I have heard reasoned discussion on the need to keep magazine size small, or to prevent more “FULL AUTO” weapons (like AK-47, AK-74, Mac10 M-16) from being sold unless they were pre assembled to fire only single round at a time.
Think about lawless places like the horn of Africa, or Sudan where weapons are easilly obtained and militias (gangs) control cities …….that kind of overabundance of weapons helps nobody

Dodge city was safer than MOST City’s in our nation now and it’s because of LIBERAL DEMOCRATS. The refusal of LIBERALS to deal with criminals as criminals have mode our streets dangerous, the refusal of LIBERALS to lock people away for crimes and KEEP them there, have turned our streets into dangerous areas. Then they are telling ME what I need?
TomDem, I suggest you open your eyes to the reality of the side you are on. Because pretty soon you will see the desire of the party you claim. It’s not a “Myth” it’s a damn fact. Look at California and New York. You say a concealed weapon permit is available? try to get one in those states. Our 2nd amendment privs have been abridged and will continue to be as long as folks like you keep allowing it.
Full auto? Never had the desire to fire one, just a waste of ammo. But I’d sure like to know if I wanted one I could have one. Kind of like a cheeseburger, or salt.. Those too are on the hit list lately…
Stop the idiocy and wake the hell up. We have WAY too many regs and not enough force behind the consequences of breaking the laws. How about trying to treat criminals worse than law abiding citizens? Well that’s just crazy talk to a Lib.
Guns or no guns, it costs to become wiser in our choice if we go or against it. Live applying the motto of a driver, be a “defensive driver”.
TomDem, you forgot to put “semi” in front of the automatic. Since 1968, it has been illegal to own an automatic rifle or machine gun without a special license from the ATF. In fact, you can not buy an AK-47 or SKS or M-16 type rifle in the US that is convertible to an auto mode from semi-automatic. Get your facts right.
As far as I’m concerned, the Second Amendment IS my gun permit. I don’t register my guns, the government has no business knowing how many guns I have or what kind.
Another thing, if you say you wouldn’t like to sit behind the trigger of a machine gun and fire off a few bursts, you’re not only fooling us, you’re fooling yourself.

I’d love to say that the 2nd amendment is my permit, to some degree that’s true. In AZ it’s true in California its a felony if you have certain types of firearms that are perfectly legal elsewhere. It’s OUR fault. It’s MY fault, it’s folks like me that didn’t get involved during the fight. I was like TomDem in some regards. The “Need” thing kind of got me thinking, he really who needs more than ten rounds, and who really needs an AK-47 or SKS??? That was until I got educated in our rights and became an engaged American.
I just want to wake people up before it’s too late. Obama was the best thing that could have happened to Gun Rights Advocates. Many NEW gun owners are joining the NRA and we need many more. Many people are seeing that “Recreational” shooting is a lot of fun and they are seeing the damage to their rights here in California.
California is a HUGE place, there are many SAFE areas too shoot but there are MORONS in this state that mess it up for everyone. It’s a double front war here. We need to get the legislature to relax these draconian gun laws, and we need to educate our brothers in common sense shooting practices.
Let me correct a mistake I made in my earlier comment. It was Robert not TomDem who forgot to put the “semi” in front of the “automatic” in his article. Sorry about that.
I learned gun safety and how to shoot in California back in 1970. My teacher was a Marine sharpshooter. Used to be, you could just go into the desert towards El Centro or up to Ocotilla Wells, set up some targets and shoot all you wanted to. Guess it isn’t like that now, eh?
In my opinion, I think that Firearms safety and basic shooting skills should be a required course in high school just like “home economics” and not just for boys either.

Yeah you can’t just go out near ocatilla wells and shoot like that anymore. You can shoot shotguns only in some places but full on fondling of all things ballistic has to be planned and you need to drive out near 29 palms or some other far off expanses. OR you can go to some ranges but even then there are restrictions.
California has pretty much become anti-heaven and they keep trying to do more to our rights. We got lucky for now with the latest bill that was ruled “Constitutionally Vague” be mindful that it was not ruled UNCONSTITUTIONAL just vague. They are unvagueing it now.

And what part of that is wrong? You hear them call the glock 9mm pistol used in Tuscon an “Automatic weapon” That’s why I put it in quotes. It’s not my words it’s the gun grabbers vocabulary.. Kind of like “Clips” vs Magazines”… Those that know nothing about firearms are generally the first ones okay with banning them, I have seen staunch anti-gun folks pick up a firearm and shoot.. next thing you know their minds are changed.
