Thousands Flee As Philippine Volcano Erupts
Thousands Flee As Philippine Volcano Erupts – AFP
Thousands of people in the Philippines fled their homes as a volcano erupted on Monday, sending a spectacular column of ash high into the sky, residents said.
The eruption of Bulusan, a 1,559-metre (5,115-foot) volcano, turned mid-morning into night for about 20 minutes across largely farming areas around its slopes, regional army spokesman Major Harold Cabunoc told AFP.
“There was a major ashfall. There was zero visibility,” Cabunoc said.
State volcanologist Ramil Vaquilar told AFP that rumbling sounds accompanied the ash column that rose between two and 2.5 kilometres (1.2-1.6 miles) above the crater.
About 2,000 residents were evacuated from three farming villages in the area as the government banned people from within four kilometres of the crater, said Lieutenant-Colonel Santiago Enginco, the local army commander.
Thirty-eight high school students were treated for ashfall inhalation, Enginco said.
Volcanic ash can cause nose, throat, eye or skin irritation as well as contaminate tap water, while prolonged exposure can cause lung disease, according to the health ministry.
Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology director Renato Solidum said on national television that planes should avoid the skies over Bulusan, as ash might clog jet engines.
However the area is not widely used in the aviation industry.
Bulusan is among 23 active volcanoes in the Philippines, which is located in the so-called Ring of Fire of volcanic activity around the Pacific.
Bulusan, 360 kilometres southeast of Manila, last erupted between March and June of 2006.
The volcano also shot ash into the air in November last year, forcing hundreds of people to evacuate their homes.
However volcanologists said this was not an eruption, rather heated ash deposits near the crater mouth that exploded and burst out on contact with rainwater.
The lowest of the low?
College students mocking a wounded Iraq veteran? Yep, that is about as low as you can go
These snot nosed brats at Columbia should be ashamed of themselves…
Columbia University students heckled a war hero during a town-hall meeting on whether ROTC should be allowed back on campus.
“Racist!” some students yelled at Anthony Maschek, a Columbia freshman and former Army staff sergeant awarded the Purple Heart after being shot 11 times in a firefight in northern Iraq in February 2008. Others hissed and booed the veteran.
Maschek, 28, had bravely stepped up to the mike Tuesday at the meeting to issue an impassioned challenge to fellow students on their perceptions of the military.
“It doesn’t matter how you feel about the war. It doesn’t matter how you feel about fighting,” said Maschek. “There are bad men out there plotting to kill you.”
Several students laughed and jeered the Idaho native, a 10th Mountain Division infantryman who spent two years at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington recovering from grievous wounds.
Ungrateful little bastards who possess no concept of liberty, or of the price liberty requires to be perpetuated!
Staffers Sought To Place Democrat Rep. David Wu In Psychiatric Hospital Before Midterms
Staffers Sought To Place Democrat Rep. David Wu In Psychiatric Hospital Before Midterms – TPM
Just days before the midterms and in the throes of a tough re-election campaign, Rep. David Wu (D-OR) was behaving so strangely that staffers staged multiple interventions and requested he check into a psychiatric hospital, The Oregonian and Willamette Week reported on Friday. Staffers went so far as to make inquiries about the availability of beds in Portland and Washington.
Several staff members confronted Wu for the final time on Oct. 30. Wu’s psychiatrist was brought into that meeting as well, joining the group at the Portland campaign headquarters by speaker phone. The meeting was held after four consecutive days of troubling behavior that led the staff to agree that Wu needed a higher level of medical care, according to people intimately familiar with the events of that period.
In the months leading up to the election, Wu’s behavior turned increasingly erratic. In October, he gave an aggressive speech that resulted in a formal complaint from a Washington County Democratic Party member. Two days later, he used his political clout to violate security rules at a Portland airport.
The final straw for his employees appears to be a series of incoherent emails reportedly sent from Wu’s work account to female staffers in the wee hours of Oct. 30. Many of them were written as though from his children, signed with their names. Sources interviewed by The Oregonian said they believed they were sent by Wu. He also forwarded a picture of himself smiling and dressed in a tiger costume, ostensibly for Halloween.
Since Wu’s re-election, six senior staffers as well as his chief fundraiser and pollster have quit working for him. He declined to be interviewed for The Oregonian article, sending a written statement that said, in part, that he was “not always at my best with staff or constituents” and that he had sought “professional medical care.”
Special Election Win Tilts Louisiana State Senate To GOP
Special Election Win Tilts Louisiana State Senate To GOP – News Max
A Republican candidate late Saturday won a special election for a Louisiana state Senate seat, according to unofficial returns, a result that if certified would give the GOP control of the Senate for the first time since Reconstruction.
The Louisiana Secretary of State’s office reported on its website that Republican state Rep. Jonathan Perry narrowly defeated Democrat Nathan Granger in the race to fill a vacant state Senate seat.
Unofficial returns show Perry receiving 52 percent of the vote to Granger’s 48 percent, with all 106 precincts reporting.
The contest was closely watched because the state Senate is currently split, with 19 Republicans and 19 Democrats. After a number of party switches, Republicans recently took control of the state House. Republican Bobby Jindal is the governor.
A Louisiana elections official said the state Senate results still must be certified and can be contested until Feb. 28.
Granger told The Associated Press that he left phone and text messages with Perry offering his congratulations. “The message I left was, ‘Congratulations on a great win. Good luck to him and I wish him well.’”
Granger said his staff will review the results but that he didn’t expect to contest them.

Fugitive Democrat Senators From Wisconsin Could Face Felony Charges
Let Slip The Dogs Of Law! – Anti-Idiotarian Rottweiler
As pleasant as it may be to contemplate His Majesty’s cold steel solution in About Wisconsin’s Teachers; below [and may I second Jaybear, Colonel of Imperial Ancient Artillery’s recommendation of pipes, add the possibility of a whiff of grape at the remnants, and note that I would be carrying my 1842 Dragoon Saber with 36 inches of steel] that is only part of the solution. We have the matter of the fugitive Democrat state senators who are trying to overturn the results of the election by fleeing the state to deny a quorum on Wisconsin’s Budget Repair Bill.
The media, as usual, are not telling the full story. Yes, absent the Democrats who ran away to the Rockford, Illinois Best Western Rockford Resort [Golf, Tennis, pools, and the on-site restaurant is a place called the “Tilted Kilt” which is the Best Western version of a Hooters. When old Democrat males visit Hooters, it is not misogynistic. It says so on the label.] they do not have a quorum for the Budget Repair Bill. But that is not quite everything.
If they can get 1 [one] Democrat into the chamber, they have a quorum for the BRB, and it can be voted on. And the Senate has issued a Call of the House mandating every senator attend. The Governor has reinforced that call by having the State Police searching for the fugitives. All well and good, but still not complete. The fugitives fled the TEA Party in Rockford and were last seen in Chicago. At least one has stated that they will not return for weeks. The crooks in Chicago will protect the crooks from Wisconsin, so that may be a roadblock.
But there is more than one path.
The quorum requirement that covers this bill is from Article VIII, Section 8 [Finance] of the Wisconsin State Constitution. Short form, for all bills having to do with money, the quorum is set at 3/5 of the Chamber. Fair enough. But …budget bills are the only bills that require a 3/5 quorum. All other business is governed by Article IV Section 7, which specifies a quorum for each House of the Legislature to be 50%+1.
Hold the Budget Repair Bill in abeyance until they have an Article VIII quorum. In parallel, start passing a simple one page bill that a) ends all collective bargaining for all government employees in Wisconsin, b) decertifies all public employee unions, and c) creates a joint House-Senate STUDY commission to determine how pay and benefits will be set for state employees. With no Democrats in the Senate, committee hearings should be somewhat quicker than usual. If they stay out of the Capitol, the bill can be passed handily. If any one of them shows up; they get grabbed, cuffed, and stuffed in their chair in chambers [perhaps not literally, but it is a wonderful thought], and the Budget Repair Bill is brought up for a vote.
Indeed, there are a number of bills that are not budgetary in nature that can be started and run through the Senate if they do not show up; bills that Patriots will love and which will make Democrat heads explode. How about proof of citizenship and residence to register to vote? State issued picture ID to cast a ballot? Requiring all candidates for Federal office to file notarized copies of original documents in advance to prove that they meet Constitutional requirements of the office to get on the ballot? How about closing party primaries, if they allow crossover voting now? How about the proposed Federal Constitutional Amendment that would allow 2/3 of the states to void any Federal statute or regulation? This could be fun, and it could be never-ending.
They either come back to the Capitol, or get their asses handed to them.
Further, Wisconsin does not have a Wisconsin Bureau of Investigation. Instead, they have a Criminal Investigation Division of the Department of Justice. Turn them loose on the fugitives, and see if any part of the cross-border hegira violated any fiscal statutes. Criminal charges would be lovely down the line.
And while we are talking about charges, I offer this, from Wisconsin’s Revised Statutes’ Criminal Code.
946.12 Misconduct in public office. Any public officer or public employee who does any of the following is guilty of a Class I felony:
946.12(1)
(1) Intentionally fails or refuses to perform a known mandatory, nondiscretionary, ministerial duty of the officer’s or employee’s office or employment within the time or in the manner required by law; or946.12(2)
(2) In the officer’s or employee’s capacity as such officer or employee, does an act which the officer or employee knows is in excess of the officer’s or employee’s lawful authority or which the officer or employee knows the officer or employee is forbidden by law to do in the officer’s or employee’s official capacity; or946.12(3)
(3) Whether by act of commission or omission, in the officer’s or employee’s capacity as such officer or employee exercises a discretionary power in a manner inconsistent with the duties of the officer’s or employee’s office or employment or the rights of others and with intent to obtain a dishonest advantage for the officer or employee or another; or946.12(4)
(4) In the officer’s or employee’s capacity as such officer or employee, makes an entry in an account or record book or return, certificate, report or statement which in a material respect the officer or employee intentionally falsifies; or946.12(5)
(5) Under color of the officer’s or employee’s office or employment, intentionally solicits or accepts for the performance of any service or duty anything of value which the officer or employee knows is greater or less than is fixed by law.
Either sections 1 or 3 could be the basis for charges against the Fugitive 14. A Class I [Capital letter not Roman numeral] Felony under Wisconsin state law is subject to up to 18 months in the penitentiary. And it does apply to members of the legislature, as 946.18 of the Criminal Code is “946.10-946.17 apply to all public officers”. No wiggle room.
File charges against the 14 legislators who are trying to void the results of the election under 946.12, and request their extradition from Illinois. May not work, but at the very least it will make it clear that this is a Democrat party-wide conspiracy.
Then there is the matter of whether they have abandoned their offices. There is no specific statute that covers the current circumstances, but there is one that covers declaring offices vacant. [17.03] And it has a clause [17.03(13)] that includes any other reason that statutes may declare. One can see a statute saying that legislators can be considered as having abandoned their offices if they absent themselves for more than a week during the regular session without permission of the presiding officer of their House. See the “never-ending fun” above. The remaining legislators can add a statute to that effect. If the 14 fugitives stay away a week after it is signed into law, then their seats are vacant. If a legislative seat is vacated during a term, under Article IV, Section 14 of the Constitution the Governor issues a special writ of election to fill the term.

Obama Administration ordered to act on drilling permits
Team Obama has been sitting on five deep water drilling permits, and Thursday, a federal court said ENOUGH!
NEW YORK (CNNMoney) — A federal court ordered the Obama administration Thursday to act on five deep water drilling permits in the Gulf of Mexico within 30 days, calling the delays in issuing new decisions “unreasonable, unacceptable, and unjustified.”
In a case brought by the drilling company Ensco, U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana Judge Martin Feldman ruled that the four to nine months the company has waited for a decision on the permits it has a stake in is simply too long.
Let us wait and see if Team Obama simply defies the court order and continues doing their best to place their “Green Agenda” over the good of the country, and of those who need work!
How to handle an obnoxious, whiny, petulant Democrat
At that point, Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz interjected with a parliamentary inquiry, and was eventually recognized once Graves was finished speaking.
“In two previous gentlemen’s statements on the amendment, both of them referred to the Affordable Care Act, which is the accurate title of the health care reform law, as ‘ObamaCare,’” Wasserman Schultz said. “That is a disparaging reference to the President of the United States. It is meant as a disparaging reference to the President of the United States. It is clearly in violation of the House rules.”
Her argument did not go anywhere, and Republicans continued their references to ObamaCare.
Well played!
