According to the D.O.J., it is radical Islamists! SHOCKER!
More than 80 percent of all convictions tied to international terrorist groups and homegrown terrorism since 9/11 involve defendants driven by a radical Islamist agenda, a review of Department of Justice statistics shows. Though Muslims represent about 1 percent of the American population, they constitute defendants in 186 of the 228 cases DOJ lists.
On Thursday, the House Homeland Security Committee holds its first hearing into radicalization among Muslim Americans. Critics have taken issue with the focus on one religious minority, but the DOJ list shows that radical Islamists are disproportionately involved in terror-related crimes.
Al-Qaida is involved in the largest number of prosecutions, representing 30 percent of the 228 terror cases involving an identified group. Hizballah-affiliated defendants are involved in 10.5 percent of the cases and Hamas is part of 9 percent. Pakistani-based Lashkar-e-Tayyiba was involved in 6.5 percent of the cases.
The Tamil Tigers in Sri Lanka and the Colombian FARC lead the non-Islamist terrorist groups, combining for 14 percent of the total.

Ok so some Terrorists according to the DOJ area Muslims, the DOJ also told us (by President Bush DOJ study) that right wing Terrorists with military history were also to be considered a threat, so which is it are both true? Or are DOJ reports only usefull if they coincide with the right wing view of the DOJ?
Really, shooting abortion doctors, and nurses, bombing clinics, the bombing at the Atlanta Olympics, and now it looks like the attempted bombing in Spokane for MLK day, those guys were all or self identified at Christians…
I don’t think it’s useful for either left or right to pick and choose between which DOJ or EPA or GAO study we believe….

Doug, my bigger point was that we have to accept that data from the DOJ for both reports
I don’t for a moment doubt the veracity of the report, and as I have said, I lost a friend on 9/11 and as I have not revealed I am a native New Yorker living in exile on the west coast.
and as a Liberal I WANT the terrorists caught, and tried and imprisoned.
