Iranian Prison Guards Allegedly Give Inmates Condoms To ‘Mass Rape’ Opposition Activists

Iranian Prison Guards Allegedly Give Inmates Condoms To ‘Mass Rape’ Opposition Activists – The Blaze

Iran continues to be a nation that exercises strict government control over its citizens’ lives. Considering the stories that continue to emerge about the government’s horrific treatment of its people, one can barely imagine the elevated horror that exists inside of Iran’s infamous prisons.

Following the 2009 anti-government protests, hundreds of opposition activists were detained. Now, these individuals have secretly written letters claiming that prison guards regularly give condoms to violent inmates and urge them to rape the imprisoned dissidents. The Guardian has more:

A series of dramatic letters written by prisoners and families of imprisoned activists allege that authorities are intentionally facilitating mass rape and using it as a form of punishment.

Mehdi Mahmoudian, an outspoken member of Iran’s Participation Front, a reformist political party, is among those prisoners who have succeeded in smuggling out letters revealing the extent of rape inside some of the most notorious prisons…

“During exercise periods, the strong ask for sex without any consideration. Criminals are repeatedly seen with condoms in hand, hunting for their victims,” an unnamed [activist's] family member told Jaras.

.
According to victims, some prisoners are taken room to room at night and raped repeatedly. All of this occurs with guards ignoring complaints (and, again, allegedly providing the condoms).

While rape victims typically hide the crime in order to protect the honor of their family in many Middle Eastern nations, the letters that have leaked out offer some of the only information available on the activists’ lives following their imprisonment.

In its 2010 report, Amnesty International corroborated these allegations:

Compelling evidence emerged that a number of detainees, both women and men, had been raped and otherwise tortured in detention, but instead of investigating allegations thoroughly, the authorities were quick to deny them and then harassed the victims and closed the offices of a committee collecting victims’ testimonies.

Below, watch Sarah Shourd, the American hiker who was detained in Iran, discuss the abuses she saw in the nation’s prison system:

Left-Wing Activist Judge Rules Against Law Defunding Planned Parenthood, Forcing Indiana Residents To Pay For Abortions

Left-Wing Activist Judge Rules Against Law Defunding Planned Parenthood, Forcing Indiana Residents To Pay For Abortions – Indianapolis Star

Medicaid patients in Indiana again can visit Planned Parenthood after a federal judge Friday put on hold a law cutting off the health provider’s funding.

U.S. District Judge Tanya Walton Pratt ruled that the defunding law violates federal Medicaid rules and “will exact a devastating financial toll on PPIN and hinder its ability to continue serving patients’ general health needs.”

Planned Parenthood of Indiana had to shut its doors to about 9,300 Medicaid clients Tuesday and contemplated closing some of its 28 health centers after the state cut off its Medicaid funding May 10.

“We are of course delighted and relieved with the judge’s ruling on defunding,” said Betty Cockrum, president of Planned Parenthood of Indiana. “We will once again get to open our doors to Medicaid patients across the state of Indiana.”

She said the clinics will be reopened to Medicaid patients today.

Pratt also put on hold a provision of the law that would have taken effect July 1 requiring doctors to tell patients seeking abortions that a fetus can feel pain at 20 weeks or less. But she temporarily upheld a part of the law requiring doctors to tell patients that life begins at fertilization.

The injunction means the defunding and fetal pain measures cannot be enforced while she is hearing Planned Parenthood’s legal challenge to the law.

Bryan Corbin, a spokesman for the attorney general’s office, said the state likely will seek a review of Pratt’s ruling by the federal appeals court in Chicago.

Jane Jankowski, spokeswoman for Gov. Mitch Daniels, said he would not issue a statement on the ruling.

The injunction only places a temporary hold on enforcement of the parts of the law challenged by Planned Parenthood. Both the state and Planned Parenthood will make legal arguments before Pratt about whether parts of the law should be thrown out or allowed to stand.

But Pratt’s ruling is an ominous sign for the state’s prospects in the larger court case.

The injunction disappointed Indiana Right to Life, which lobbied strongly for the law’s defunding provision.

“Today’s ruling goes against the will of the Indiana legislature and against the will of the people of Indiana, as they’ve elected those legislators to represent them,” said Cathie Humbarger, communications director for Indiana Right to Life.

Neither the sponsor of the bill, Rep. Eric Turner, R-Cicero, nor the sponsor of the defunding provision, Sen. Scott Schneider, R-Indianapolis, could be reached for comment late Friday evening. Schneider and other supporters argued that abortion opponents should not have their tax dollars sent to an organization that provides abortions. They also questioned Planned Parenthood’s claim that none of those dollars directly subsidize abortion.

Pratt said in her ruling that she found no evidence of “inappropriate commingling” of private funds used for abortion with Medicaid funds used for birth control, tests for sexually transmitted diseases and cancer screenings.

Right to Life, however, was not convinced. Humbarger said she thinks the abortions provided by Planned Parenthood every year – about 5,500 – are subsidized with taxpayer dollars.

“We’re confident that Indiana’s right to defund Planned Parenthood will eventually be upheld in the courts,” Humbarger said.

A federal judge has halted enforcement of a law cutting off funding to Planned Parenthood of Indiana and other entities that provide abortions.

The ruling by U.S. District Judge Tanya Walton Pratt on Friday night means Planned Parenthood, which stopped serving its 9,300 Medicaid patients last week after running out of donated funds, can again see those patients.

The judge also enjoined a part of the law that would have taken effect July 1, requiring doctors to tell patients seeking abortions that a fetus can feel pain at 20 weeks or less.

Both were part of an anti-abortion bill that passed the Republican dominated legislature with significant support and was signed into law by Mitch Daniels.

Pratt’s injunction means the two provisions cannot be enforced while she is hearing a lawsuit, brought by Planned Parenthood and the American Civil Liberties Union, arguing that those parts of the law should be struck down.

Obama Last Week: Automation Kills Jobs… Obama This Week: Automation Creates Jobs

Obama Last Week: Automation Kills Jobs… Obama This Week: Automation Creates Jobs – Gateway Pundit

Last week automation was bad.

This week automation is good.

So which is it?

Last week Barack Obama blamed ATMs and automation for killing jobs.

FOX Nation reported:

President Obama explained to NBC News that the reason companies aren’t hiring is not because of his policies, it’s because the economy is so automated. … “There are some structural issues with our economy where a lot of businesses have learned to become much more efficient with a lot fewer workers. You see it when you go to a bank and you use an ATM, you don’t go to a bank teller, or you go to the airport and you’re using a kiosk instead of checking in at the gate.”

But that was so last week.

Today in his Weekly Address Barack Obama said that automation creates jobs.

The AP reported:

President Barack Obama says technological innovations such as robots can help pump jobs into the economy and spur growth in clean energy and advanced manufacturing.

In his radio and Internet address Saturday, the president echoed a plan he unveiled Friday in Pittsburgh to join the federal government, universities and corporations and re-ignite American manufacturing with an emphasis on cutting-edge research and new technologies.

“Their mission is to come up with a way to get ideas from the drawing board to the manufacturing floor to the marketplace as swiftly as possible, which will help create quality jobs, and make our businesses more competitive,” Obama said in his address.

Do you ever get the idea the community organizer in chief is winging it?

Gay Marriage Bill Passes In New York: How The Deal Was Finally Done In Albany – New York Daily News

A vote of conscience has left the four Republican senators who helped legalize gay marriage already facing retribution from the Conservative Party.

Conservative Party Chairman Michael Long said the four have lost the backing of the small but influential party for what he deemed their “betrayal” of principles.

“It’s absolutely a betrayal,” Long said. “They accepted the Conservative Party endorsement. They knew were we stood on the issue.”

But Gov. Cuomo and gay rights advocates had the backs of the four senators – Sens. James Alesi of Rochester, Roy McDonald of Saratoga Springs, Stephen Saland of Poughkeepsie, and Mark Grisanti of Buffalo – Friday night after the historic vote.

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo celebrates his huge political win with the passage of the gay marriage bill.

Cuomo, a Democrat who polls show is popular among Republicans, deemed all four “people of courage, people of principle” and recognized that for them, the vote to support gay marriage was “politically more dangerous.”

“I represent the people of this state of New York and I’m going to tell them what I believe and that is what I believe,” Cuomo said. “To the extent that is the truth and it helps them, so be it.”

Gay marriage advocates said they expect money from same-sex groups to flow to the four not just as a thank you, but also as a message to Republicans nationally.

The four Republicans know their votes could cost them their political careers, but said they felt compelled to do what they now believe is the right thing.

Alesi, an eight-term senator, last week became the first GOPer to switch sides. Two years ago he voted no on gay marriage, a move he later admitted was agonizing but politically-motivated to protect the Republican conference, which was in the minority at the time.

Freshman Senator Mark Grisanti was key to the bill’s passage. (Mike Groll/AP)

He has said he hopes to travel across the country to solicit Republican support for gay marriage in other states.

McDonald, a two-term senator, was next as he reversed his previous opposition to gay marriage last week as well. The former military man said he has evolved on the issue and even became a brief internet sensation when he said to critics: “F— it, I don’t care what you think. I’m trying to do the right thing.”

He said he has since received threats and fully expects a primary next year.

Heading into Friday’s vote, all eyes were on Saland, a 10-term senator, and Grisanti, a freshman to the chamber.

Saland, known for his scholarly demeanor, voted against gay marriage in 2009. He didn’t tip his hand until he spoke on the floor Friday in support of an amendment he helped craft to protect religious groups that refuse to cater to gay couples.

He said he received scores of emails and letters on the issue. He spoke of coming from a traditional background, but having parents who always taught him to “do the right thing.”

Gay marriage supporters rejoice in Albany. (Hans Pennink/AP)

“My intellectual and emotional journey has ended here today, and I have to define doing the right thing as treating all people with equality,” Saland said.

Grisanti’s evolution was more stunning. He had run for office last year opposed to gay marriage.

A freshman senator representing a mainly Democratic district, Grisanti said he was having a hard time reconciling his Catholic upbringing that stressed marriage was only between one man and one woman and his belief as a lawyer that everyone is entitled to the same basic rights.

He vacillated for weeks before casting a vote he knew could end his political career. He apologized to those upset that he changed his stance since being elected.

“A man can be wiser today than yesterday, but there would be no respect for him if he has failed his duty to do the work,” Grisanti concluded.

Gators advance to College World Series final

Florida Gators women's basketball athletic logo

My Gators keep on rolling, knocking off Vanderbilt, and will now deal with South Carolina

Florida is in the College World Series finals, which is right where most people in college baseball figured they would be all along.

The second-seeded Gators advanced with a 6-4 victory over Vanderbilt on Friday. Preston Tucker drove in the go-ahead run in the eighth inning to offset a shaky bullpen that squandered a three-run lead.

Florida (53-17) will play South Carolina (53-14) in the best-of-three finals starting Monday. The Gamecocks advanced with a 3-2, 13-inning win over Virginia.

For the Gators, it’s the place to be to finish a year in which they were the preseason No. 1-ranked team, won the Southeastern Conference tournament and lost back-to-back games on only two occasions.

“You have to feel fortunate,” Gators coach Kevin O’Sullivan said. “You’ve got to have some breaks along the way. This is a long grind. This team, from day one, its goal was to set out to play for the national championship. That doesn’t always come in the end, doesn’t always work out that way. But they’ve been focused, and we’re looking forward to it.”

Darned proud of my Gators, and the SEC too

The return of the Winnipeg Jets

I always hate to see a city and fans, lose a franchise, it has happened in every sport,  west in 1957, or the Baltimore Colts and Cleveland Browns, and Houston Oilers in the NFL. Sometimes the cities that lose their team get them back, like when the Raiders returned to Oakland , or at least  a new team. Such is the case for the fans of the NHL’s Winnipeg Jets, a team that left in 1996 has returned, thanks to the inability of Atlanta to support the Thrashers.

The new NHL team in Winnipeg will go with what the city’s original team was named — the Winnipeg Jets.

The Atlanta Thrashers are no more, having moved north across the border earlier this month. The name change was announced Friday night by team chairman Mark Chipman at the NHL draft in Minnesota, just before the Jets took center Mark Scheifele with the seventh pick in the first round.

“We are thrilled to be using a name that has so much history in our city and means so much to our fans,” Chipman said in a statement released by the team. “Our fans clearly indicated to us the passion they hold for the name since we acquired the franchise.”

The original Jets joined the NHL in 1979 after the World Hockey Association folded. They played in Manitoba until 1996, when the franchise moved to Phoenix and became the Coyotes.

Congrats to Winnipeg

Hillary Clinton’s Senior Adviser Praises Marxist Mass-Murderer Che Guevara

Hillary Clinton’s Senior Adviser Praises Marxist Mass-Murderer Che Guevara – Gateway Pundit

Great… Another commie-praising idiot in the Obama Administration…

Hillary Clinton’s senior adviser Alec Ross praised social media and the internet as the “Che Guevara of the 21st Century.”

Che Guevara was a communist, a murderer, a thug and a coward.

.

.
Leftist idiot wants to compare the internet revolution to the communist revolution that destroyed Cuba.

The Guardian reported:

Hillary Clinton’s senior adviser for innovation at the US state department has lauded the way the internet has become “the Che Guevara of the 21st century” in the Arab Spring uprisings.

Speaking at the Guardian’s Activate summit in London on Wednesday, Alec Ross said “dictatorships are now more vulnerable than ever” as disaffected citizens organise influential protest movements on Facebook and Twitter.

The US has pledged to back the pro-democracy movements that have swept the Middle East and north Africa since January. Ross welcomed the “redistribution of power” from autocratic regimes to individuals, describing the internet as “wildly disruptive” during the protests in Egypt and Tunisia.

“Dictatorships are now more vulnerable than they have ever been before, in part – but not entirely – because of the devolution of power from the nation state to the individual,” he said.

“One thesis statement I want to emphasise is how networks disrupt the exercise of power. They devolve power from the nation state – from governments and large institutions – to individuals and small institutions. The overarching pattern is the redistribution of power from governments and large institutions to people and small institutions.”

Ross said that the internet had “acted as an accelerant” in the Arab spring uprisings, pointing to the dislodging of former Tunisian president Zine el-Abidine Ben Ali in little over a month. The internet had facilitated leaderless movements, Ross added, describing it as the “Che Guevara of the 21st century”.

What a complete leftist idiot.

“Columbo” Actor Peter Falk Dead At 83

“Columbo” Actor Peter Falk Dead At 83 – Reuters

“Peter Falk, 83 year-old Academy Award nominee and star of television series, Columbo, died peacefully at his Beverly Hills home in the evening of June 23, 2011,” said a statement issued by the attorney.

Like many actors of his generation, Falk began his career on the stage, honing his craft in school, community theater and off Broadway. By the late 1950s he began to star in Broadway productions, and soon made his move to Hollywood.

.

.
Falk’s breakout film role came with 1960′s “Murder, Inc.” in the supporting part of a killer among a gang of thugs, but it was his performance on the opposite side of the law – as police lieutenant Columbo – that earned Falk superstardom.

As a child, Falk’s right eye had been surgically removed due to a malignant tumor, and it was replaced with a glass eye. That handicap became, perhaps, the actor’s major asset and physical trademark as the star of “Columbo” because it only enhanced the detective’s image as a disheveled and oddball crime sleuth.

But the homicide-chasing cop’s probing questions always caused the murderer to reveal his true self and Columbo caught the villain. The show became a smash hit after its debut in 1971. It continued playing on TV for many years and even spawned several TV movies later in the actor’s life.

Falk is survived by his wife, Shera, of 34 years and two daughters from a previous marriage.

Treasury Sec. Geithner: We Need To Raise Taxes On Small Businesses Because It‘s ’Fair’ (Video)

Treasury Sec. Geithner: We Need To Raise Taxes On Small Businesses Because It‘s ’Fair’ – The Blaze

Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner admitted on Wednesday that the administration’s budget plan will, in fact, raise taxes on small businesses. However, it‘s a move he said is necessary and justified because revenues must increase in a way that’s “fair to people as a whole.”

Geithner’s testimony came after he was confronted by Rep. Renee Ellmers (R-NC) on the administration’s proposal to raise taxes on those earning above $250,000. Many small business owners file taxes the same way individuals do, giving the appearance that they are bringing in higher earnings.

“Looking into the future, you are supporting the idea of taxation, increasing taxes on those who make $250,000 or more. Those are our business owners,” Ellmers said. Geithner responded that it would only affect “three percent of your small businesses.”

When pressed further by Ellmers, Geithner revealed that the motivation behind the increase is based on fairness.

“But just to put it in perspective, it’s important to recognize why are we doing this,” he explained. “You know, our deficits are 10 percent of GDP, higher than they’ve been since any time in the postwar period really. We have a big hole to dig out of, and we have to figure out how to do that in a way that’s balanced, good for growth, fair to people as a whole.”

Watch the exchange below via CNS News:

.

.
“We’re not doing it because we want to do it, we’re doing it because we see no alternative to a balanced approach to reduce our fiscal deficits,” Geithner said later.

But that’s not entirely true. Geithner and the administration to have an alternative. Congressional Republicans are proposing an alternative to tax hikes that would cut about $2 trillion in spending over 10 years.

“Sadly, the Democrats’ response has been a mystifying call for more stimulus spending and huge tax hikes on American job creators. That’s not serious, and it is my hope that the president will take those off the table on Monday so that we can have a serious discussion about our country’s economic future,” Senate Minority Mitch McConnell said today.

Documents Detail Shocking Sex Slave Trafficking Operation In Houston, Texas Operated By Illegal Aliens

Documents Detail Shocking Sex Slave Trafficking Operation In Houston, Texas Operated By Illegal Aliens – Judicial Watch

Judicial Watch, the public interest group that investigates and prosecutes government corruption, announced today it has obtained documents from the Houston Police Department detailing a shocking sex trafficking operation run by illegal aliens, including a former prostitute, Maria Rojas, who had previously been deported. The documents indicate that police officers responded to service calls to the business co-owned by Ms. Rojas on 60 occasions, and were well aware of the criminal activity taking place at these establishments, but apparently did not check the immigration status of any of the arrestees or Ms. Rojas. Houston, Texas, has in place an illegal alien sanctuary policy, Houston PD General Order 500-5, which prohibits police officers from inquiring about the citizenship status of any person.

On February 17, 2011, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Texas announced the indictment of Maria Rojas and her brother, Jose Luis Rojas, on sex trafficking conspiracy charges. They and eight co-defendants were also charged with conspiracy to harbor illegal aliens. Maria Rojas, who was deported following a 1999 arrest for prostitution, was charged with illegally reentering the country after deportation.

The indictment alleges that Maria and Jose Luis Rojas ran a sex slave trafficking ring since at least August 1999. The scheme involved luring young women into the country illegally from Mexico with false promises of employment, then forcing them to work as prostitutes at La Costeñita Bar and El Club Restaurante in Houston. Maria Rojas and Javier Guevara Belmontes (a legal resident) co-owned the locations. The remaining defendants were illegal aliens who served as managers or employees of the businesses.

Judicial Watch filed an open records request with the Houston Police Department (HPD) on March 8, 2011, seeking documents related to police contacts with the individuals named in the indictment and police activity at the locations related to the conspiracy. Documents produced to Judicial Watch from the HPD show law enforcement officers responded to service calls at the businesses co-owned by Maria Rojas on average once a month over a five-year period and to a residence co-owned by Maria Rojas and Javier Belmontes on an additional eight occasions:

* Police documented 48 calls for service to La Costeñita between 2006 and 2011. Nine of these events involved vice squad investigations and/or arrests for prostitution, and during this time frame 12 individuals were arrested for prostitution. There were 17 cases of assault (including three shootings and a stabbing). There was one cocaine possession arrest (in May 2008) and one armed robbery arrest (in December 2007).

* There were 12 documented police calls for service to El Club Restaurante between 2006 and 2010. These included four burglaries, two assaults and a shooting.

* Between May 2006 and November 2010, Houston police responded to the residence of Maria Rojas and Javier Belmontes eight times. On three occasions, police spoke with and documented a complaint by Jose Luis Rojas. On November 1, 2010, Jose Luis Rojas reported an armed robbery by six unknown assailants. Three weeks later, Jose Luis Rojas reported receiving a telephonic death threat.

According to the Houston Chronicle, police officers were well aware of the illegal activity taking place at the La Costeñita location:

So notorious is the bar that undercover Texas alcohol investigators long ago documented its seedy intricacies: an escape hatch, a hidden passageway leading to decrepit and gated houses of prostitution described as “horse stalls.” Federal, state and local agents learned by name and face many key characters who operated La Costenita and made repeated – but only partially successful efforts – to stop them.

Despite the repeated visits to these establishments, Maria and Jose Luis Rojas continued to operate their sex trafficking operation unfettered for approximately a decade. A simple check with ICE about Ms. Rojas, any of the arrestees or the young girls forced into prostitution, would have indicated their illegal status, and might have led to the earlier termination of the sex slave trafficking ring.

However, Houston is a de facto sanctuary city because of Houston PD General Order 500-5. The order, signed by former chief Sam Nuchia in January 1990, states in part that “officers shall not make inquiries as to the citizenship status of any person, nor will officers detain or arrest persons solely on the belief that they are in this country illegally. Officers will contact the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) regarding a person only if that person is arrested on a separate criminal charge (other than a class C misdemeanor) and the officer knows the prisoner is an illegal alien.”

“Sanctuary policies in Houston allowed young women to be victimized by illegal alien sex traffickers. Houston and other sanctuary cities undermine the rule of law and thwart control of our borders. And they lead to the brutal crimes associated with human trafficking. So while the Obama administration goes after Arizona for furthering our nation’s immigration laws, it ignores cities like Houston that think they don’t have to obey laws concerning illegal immigration,” said Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton.
