GOProud’s Conservative Agenda
The so-called “gay agenda” is defined by the left through a narrow prism of legislative goals. In contrast to the approach of the left, GOProud’s agenda emphasizes conservative and libertarian principles that will improve the daily lives of all Americans, but especially gay and lesbian Americans.
1 – TAX REFORM – We support replacing the current tax code with the Fair Tax. Until then, we support death tax repeal; domestic partner tax equity; cuts in the capital gains and corporate tax rates to jump start our economy and create jobs; a fairer, flatter and substantially simpler tax code.
2 – HEALTHCARE REFORM – Free market healthcare reform. Allow for the purchase of insurance across state lines – expanding access to domestic partner benefits; emphasizing individual ownership of healthcare insurance – such a shift would prevent discriminatory practices by an employer or the government.
3 – SOCIAL SECURITY REFORM – The only way to permanent solvency in the Social Security system is through the creation of inheritable personal savings accounts. Personal savings accounts would give gay and lesbian couples the same opportunity to leave their accounts to their spouses as their straight counterparts.
4 - RESPECTING THE PROPER ROLE OF THE JUDICIARY - We believe our Constitution should be respected and that judges appointed to the federal bench should recognize the proper and appropriate role of the judiciary as laid out by our Founding Fathers.
5 – HOLDING THE LINE ON SPENDING – Standing up for all tax payers against wasteful and unneccessary spending to protect future generations from the mounting federal debt.
6 – FIGHTING GLOBAL EXTREMISTS – Standing strong against radical regimes that refuse to recognize the basic human rights of gays and lesbians, women and religious minorities.
7 – DEFENDING OUR CONSTITUTION – Opposing any anti-gay federal marriage amendment. Marriage should be a question for the states. A federal constitutional amendment on marriage would be an unprecedented federal power grab from the states.
8 – ENCOURAGING COMMUNITY ENTREPRENEURSHIP – Package of free market reforms to encourage and support small businesses and entrepreneurship. Such reforms would create jobs for all Americans – including gay Americans.
9 – REVITALIZING OUR COMMUNITIES – A package of urban related reforms; expanding historic tax preservation credits; support for school choice.
10 – DEFENDING OUR COMMUNITY – Protecting 2nd amendment rights.In other words they are more conservative than most of the Republicans in office today. So someone please tell me the problem? Heck, the even the group’s stance on Gay Marriage is a conservative one, that it is a state issue.

WATCHING today’s Republicans being led around by an extremist Tea Party faction, with no adult supervision, I find my mind drifting back to the late 1980s when I was assigned to cover the administration of George H.W. Bush, who I believe is one of our most underrated presidents. I have long admired the elder Bush for the deftness with which he dealt with the collapse of the Soviet empire. But, in later years, I came to admire him even more for the fact that he believed that math and science were not matters of opinion — a view increasingly rare in today’s G.O.P.
Despite having run on the promise of “Read my lips: No new taxes,” when the deficit started spiraling to dangerous levels under his presidency, Bush agreed to a compromise with Democrats to raise several taxes, along with spending cuts, as part of a 1990 budget deal that helped to pave the way for the prosperity of that decade. It definitely hurt his re-election, but he did it anyway.
In other words, he admired Bush 41 because Friedman thinks he caved to Democrats? Typical!

A Syrian Major-General has deserted Assad’s army along with a group of other officers and joined the rebels.
In an Arabic video clip posted on Youtube on July 29, 2011, the officer, Major-General Riad El As’ad is seen in the company of other officers, announcing the establishment of the “Free Syrian Army whose main goal will be to fight the army of oppression headed by President Bashar Assad”.
As’ad accused the Assad regime of crimes against the Syrian people and called on the officers and soldiers in the Syrian army not to aim their weapons at the people. He further called on them to join the Free Syrian Army.
The major-general warned that the Free Army will eliminate any soldier who acts to harm his own people. The present army commanders do not represent the army, he continued, they are acting for the criminal gang that controls the media and prevents the people from obtaining truthful information on what is happening.
After years of killing, tyranny, and oppression, the kingdom of silence is silent no more.

State Of Arizona Breaks Silence On Madness In ‘Nazi’-Cop Town – WorldNetDaily
The town of Quartzsite, Ariz., has been in the headlines several times lately, and a state investigation was launched after such odd reports as:
* A man was ordered to give up his guns after he allegedly “glared” at a town official.
* A woman was forcibly removed from a public town meeting by police even though the mayor pleaded her cause.
* Some sort of secret decision was made to quit paying the mayor, as police officers were wrongly being fired.
* “Several hundred” emails prompted a declaration of a state of emergency.
Now the state has taken the unusual step of releasing a statement amid its investigation, confirming there is “reasonable cause” to believe officials in Quartzsite, after getting worldwide attention by having officers forcibly remove a woman from speaking at a town-hall meeting, have broken the law.
State Attorney General Tom Horne said about his investigation of Quartzsite:
Normally, we do not release the results of an investigation until it has been completed. However, because this is a matter of unusual public interest, we are prepared to say that, based on review of a video of a July 10 meeting, there is reasonable cause to believe that there has been a violation of the Open Meeting Law, inasmuch as the public was excluded.
The meeting was held under the misconception that an emergency meeting can be conducted without the public present. Independently of the question of whether the town council had a legitimate reason to hold an emergency meeting, even proper emergency meetings must allow the public to be present. The exception is if there is a legitimate basis for an executive session, and the city council did not attempt to hold a proper executive session during the emergency meeting.
The investigation of this and other alleged violations of Open Meeting Laws is ongoing.
The controversy in Quartzsite began June 28 when a fiasco developed at town hall. As shown on YouTube, Jennifer Jones, publisher of the Desert Freedom Press, was physically ousted from a council meeting over the vocal objections of Mayor Ed Foster, who pleaded with his own police not to remove her.

Then, just days ago, Town Councilman Joe Winslow, who admits he’s been diagnosed with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, obtained from elected Justice of the Peace Karen Slaughter a harassment injunction against gem dealer and online entrepreneur Michael Roth.
As a result, Roth was forced to relinquish all of his weapons.
Winslow had warned, “I have been diagnosed with PTSD … that’s what I’m concerned with, that he’s gonna get so far into my personal space that I’m gonna react without thinking.”
Winslow claimed Roth verbally chastised him.
Town officials did not respond to a request from WND for comment on the pronouncement from the attorney general today.
Winslow explained why he thought Roth’s firearms needed to be confiscated.

“I know that I’m 71 years old. I don’t want to be a statistic, I don’t want to go to jail and I don’t want to go in the hospital,” Winslow said. “But based on my history of 24 years in the service, I am more concerned about my reaction to his aggression than anything else, especially now that I believe that he is carrying a handgun. His actions have demonstrated in the past to me that he is not in full control of his emotions.”
Winslow also said he has been flooded with several hundred emails from Americans not happy about his demand to silence Jones, whom he called “disruptive.”
“They’re contacting people all over the country with similar political beliefs and that’s why we had to declare a state of emergency, and Mr. Roth is involved in that,” Winslow claimed.
Citing reasons for the restraining order, Winslow stated on his official complaint form that on July 1 Roth blocked him from entering town hall. Winslow claimed Roth said, “Hey, Terd (sic), where’s the keys to the arms locker?” Roth allegedly continued, saying, “Tell one of the other terds (sic) to bring out a key.”
Additionally, Winslow told Slaughter that after a meeting several months ago, “I was talking to someone and I saw [Roth] glaring at me, and I said something like, ‘What’s your problem?’ … It was very uncomfortable.”
Slaughter granted Winslow’s request for the injunction, saying, “I will go ahead an issue the order. However, on the portion for [Roth] to stay away from the town council or the from the Town Hall, I don’t think I can give a blanket order to do that. What it’s going to say is that if he has to have specific personal business at the town, then he’ll have to call and make an appointment. … He can make an appointment if he wants to talk about his water bill or whatever the case may be, then that way you can leave or whatever so that you don’t have to have a confrontation with him.”
Roth, 46, is outraged at the mandate, telling WND his constitutional rights are being “completely” violated.
“Town hall is where anyone in America can air their grievances to the public and to the politicians. Now I am ordered to stay away, effectively stopping me from warning others about the police state we live in,” he said. “And in these times of rising crime, I can’t even defend myself or my family because a crooked councilman and a misguided judge are worried about what the councilman might do to me because of his self-confessed mental instabilities. It’s complete insanity!”

Mayor Ed Foster, who’s been at war with his own council and Police Chief Jeff Gilbert, whom he has called corrupt and “a Nazi,” believes potentially millions of dollars of taxpayer money is being illegally funneled through secret checks to unnamed council members.
During the course of events, there also were reports that the paychecks to the mayor had been halted and a number of officers dismissed.
A Facebook support page for Mayor Foster has been inundated with viewers and messages of solidarity.
President Obama Takes Debt Battle To Twitter, Loses More Than 40,000 Followers In One Day
President Obama brought his debt battle to Twitter and he lost – more than 40,000 Twitter followers.
Obama asked Americans Friday to call, email, and tweet Congressional leaders to “keep the pressure on” lawmakers in hopes of reaching a bipartisan deal to raise the nation’s $14.3 trillion debt limit ahead of an Aug. 2 deadline.

Obama’s campaign staff used the @BarackObama Twitter account to post the Twitter handles of tweeting GOP leaders – state by state, tweet by tweet.
“Tweet at your Republican legislators and urge them to support a bipartisan compromise to the debt crisis,” Obama’s campaign staff wrote on his account before launching the day-long Twitter campaign.
The campaign appears to have served its purpose: Republican Twitter accounts were flooded with pleas for compromise.
Not everyone is a fan of the presidential spam. By Friday evening, the President had lost more than 40,000 Twitter followers – and counting.
Many members of the Twitterati took to the social media platform to voice their annoyance over the barrage of partisan tweets. A search for “@BarackObama unfollow” turned up scores of irritated posts.
“Honestly, @BarackObama, I’m going to have to unfollow you if you don’t stop filing up my Twitter inbox soon,” tweeted Bostonian @melisthreadgill, a self-described “Progressive activist”.
“Can’t believe I had to unfollow @BarackObama for spamming Twitter. Really, really strange behavior,” wrote @Arevill inConnecticut.
“I want to unfollow @BarackObama but his desperation is too entertaining,” tweeted @rdpatrick of Lavonia, Georgia.
While his follower number appears to have taken its biggest dive in recent memory, Obama’s Twitter account still had a whopping 9,362,880 followers at 7:30pm Friday night, down from 9,402,898 Friday morning – and he’s still the third-most followed person on the planet.

Senate Kills Latest House Debt Measure – Associated Press
The Senate has killed the latest effort by the House to raise the government’s borrowing cap.
Democrats and several Republicans killed the GOP measure by a 59-41 vote Friday night, just minutes after it arrived from the House. Democrats opposed the measure because it would require another painful debt-limit debate early next year.
The move continues a standoff over the debt limit but could set the table for negotiations this weekend on compromise legislation that could pass the Democratic Senate and the GOP-controlled House before an Aug. 2 deadline to prevent a potentially disastrous default on U.S. obligations like interest payments and Social Security checks.
The measure would have immediately lifted the government’s borrowing cap by $900 billion. It barely squeaked through the House.

The New York Times wasted no time in jumping to conclusions about Anders Behring Breivik, the Norwegian who staged two deadly attacks in Oslo last weekend, claiming in the first two paragraphs of one story that he was a “gun-loving,” “right-wing,” “fundamentalist Christian,” opposed to “multiculturalism.”
It may as well have thrown in “Fox News-watching” and “global warming skeptic.”
This was a big departure from the Times’ conclusion-resisting coverage of the Fort Hood shooting suspect, Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan. Despite reports that Hasan shouted “Allahu Akbar!” as he gunned down his fellow soldiers at a military medical facility in 2009, only one of seven Times articles on Hasan so much as mentioned that he was a Muslim.
Of course, that story ran one year after Hasan’s arrest, so by then, I suppose, the cat was out of the bag.
In fact, however, Americans who jumped to conclusions about Hasan were right and New York Times reporters who jumped to conclusions about Breivik were wrong.
True, in one lone entry on Breivik’s gaseous 1,500-page manifesto, “2083: A European Declaration of Independence,” he calls himself “Christian.” But unfortunately he also uses a great number of other words to describe himself, and these other words make clear that he does not mean “Christian” as most Americans understand the term. (Incidentally, he also cites The New York Times more than a half-dozen times.)
Had anyone at the Times actually read Breivik’s manifesto, they would have seen that he uses the word “Christian” as a handy moniker to mean “European, non-Islamic” — not a religious Christian or even a vague monotheist. In fact, at several points in his manifesto, Breivik stresses that he has a beef with Christians for their soft-heartedness. (I suppose that’s why the Times is never worried about a “Christian backlash.”
The Left JUMPED to conclusions, as they always do, because they are, and have been, waging a campaign to silence the Right. They never ever miss a chance to try to paint the Right as extreme, dangerous, etc. And the Left knows that no mater how specious their claims are, some of the mud they sling will stick. So, the Left will continue to lie about the Right, Christians, Tea Party members, etc. Yes, it is a detestable tactic, yes it is morally retarded and dishonest. In other words these disgusting tactics suit the Left to a tee!
Fact it, this IS what the Left is folks.

House Passes Boehner’s Budget Control Act – Daily Caller
After a wild and bumpy ride, the Republican-controlled House of Representatives passed, Friday evening, Speaker of the House John Boehner’s Budget Control Act. The vote fell along party lines at 218-210.
The House passage comes after many hours of arm-twisting and negotiating to get enough of the GOP freshmen class to promise a “yes” vote. At several points, the plan was on clear life support, with little chance of surviving.
One of the later converts came Friday afternoon with Rep. Jeff Flake of Arizona.
But it wasn’t without significant tweaks to Boehner’s plan. The speaker, Friday morning, added a provision that made a second tranche of money to raise the debt ceiling in six months from the passage of a balanced budget amendment.
Yet however much of a victory this is for the House GOP, the Budget Control Act is likely doomed. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has publicly said the bill will fail in the upper chamber. And today, President Barack Obama essentially said getting the bill to pass in the House had been a waste of time.
“[It] does not solve the problem,” said Obama.
“Today I urge Democrats and Republicans in the Senate to find common ground on a plan that can get support from both parties in the House, a plan that I can sign by Tuesday,” he added.
Reid is also pushing his own debt-limit plan. More movement on that could come later on Friday and over the weekend.
