Like any true Leftist, Krugman has no problems using any means to silence dissent
Paul Krugman wants news organizations to completely censor out any views that disagree with his. He complained that the media is too balanced in its coverage of the debt ceiling debate, a debate in which President Obama is a “moderate conservative.” He wants them to knock it off, and knock it off now. He actually described shutting up conservatives as a moral issue, while indicating he thinks most Americans are morons.
So what do most news reports say? They portray it as a situation in which both sides are equally partisan, equally intransigent — because news reports always do that. …
What all this means is that there is no penalty for extremism; no way for most voters, who get their information on the fly rather than doing careful study of the issues, to understand what’s really going on…And yes, I think this is a moral issue.
Good grief! Krugman is living in an alternate reality, he has to be to believe the BS he writes. Feel free to read his whole column, but here is, to me the paragraph that sums up just how out of his mind Krugman is
Think about what’s happening right now. We have a crisis in which the right is making insane demands, while the president and Democrats in Congress are bending over backward to be accommodating — offering plans that are all spending cuts and no taxes, plans that are far to the right of public opinion.
Wow! Just wow! By “accommodating, I guess Krugman means Obama threatening to veto every idea the GOP has come up with? Or perhaps he is referring to Nancy Pelosi’s rant about the GOP wanting to poison the water, air, and to destroy government?

While President Obama exhorts American taxpayers to tighten their belts, and the U.S. flirts with default, the United Nations is setting new records for spending American money. The White House’s Office of Management and Budget has produced its latest report, required by Congress, on U.S. contributions to the UN. For the 2010 fiscal year, the U.S. bankrolled the UN to the tune of $7.69 billion. As the Heritage Foundation’s Brett Schaefer notes, that’s a “staggering 21 percent increase over FY2009.”
It’s also more than double the $3.539 which U.S. Ambassador Susan Rice, in testimony this April to the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, implied was the rough amount of U.S. annual spending on the UN.
The rise in U.S. contributions reflects soaring UN budgets over the past decade, to which the U.S. has been the biggest contributor. The exact percentage of UN activity funded by the U.S. varies, depending on which part of the UN we’re talking about. But browsing the OMB report can give you a pretty good idea of how big a hunk of the UN tab is bankrolled by American taxpayers. Scroll down in the report to page 2, where you can discover that the U.S. in fiscal 2010 bankrolled 27.3% of all UN peacekeeping, 22% of the regular budget, 33.6% of the World Food Program, and 26.5% of the budget of the UN’s Palestinian refugee agency (UNRWA).
What’s America getting for all this money? One seat, with one vote, in a 192-member General Assembly dominated by the largely anti-American preferences of the Organization of the Islamic Conference and the G-77 plus China. One permanent seat on the Security Council, alongside veto-wielding China (which contributes a mere 3.189% of the UN’s regular budget) and Russia (which contributes 1.6%). And such privileges as a chance to rub elbows with the likes of Iran and Cuba on the governing board of the UN’s flagship agency, the UN Development Program (UNDP). Plus the endless circus act in which the UN promises transparency, better oversight and more efficient management – and delivers soaring budgets, opaque finances and bubbling scandals. All those American billions now pouring into the UN had their origins in work done by Americans, who earned that money, and then had it taxed away by government – and turned over to the UN. Given a choice, could those taxpayers perhaps find better uses for their dollars?

What did Barack Obama know about Operation Fast and Furious, and when did he know it? Rep. Darrell Issa’s committee uncovered an explosive nugget of information from the subpoena of ATF e-mail, which went public in yesterday’s hearings.
The ATF manager of the Phoenix office notified a White House official of Operation Fast and Furious as an update on the overall Project Gunrunner effort, connecting the controversial operation directly to the White House for the first time:
At a lengthy hearing on ATF’s controversial gunwalking operation today, a key ATF manager told Congress he discussed the case with a White House National Security staffer as early as September 2010. The communications were between ATF Special Agent in Charge of the Phoenix office, Bill Newell, and White House National Security Director for North America Kevin O’Reilly. Newell said the two are longtime friends. The content of what Newell shared with O’Reilly is unclear and wasn’t fully explored at the hearing. …
Congressional investigators obtained an email from Newell to O’Reilly in September of last year in which Newell began with the words: “you didn’t get this from me.”
“What does that mean,” one member of Congress asked Newell, ” ‘you didn’t get this from me?’ ”
“Obviously he was a friend of mine,” Newell replied, “and I shouldn’t have been sending that to him.”
Issa asked him why O’Reilly would have been asking about Project Gunrunner, the overall interdictment effort, but that’s fairly clear. As a national-security advisor with responsibility for North America, the cartels in Mexico would be one of the primary threats O’Reilly would watch. O’Reilly told Newell that he planned to travel to Mexico to work on the issue, which would explain the need for an update.
What’s less clear is why Newell informed him with the caveat “you didn’t get this from me”. Why wouldn’t the ATF report on Fast and Furious results to the White House when asked? Was Newell told to avoid linking the operation directly to the White House, or was the ATF worried about the implications of the operation even before it blew up in their faces? Given the hostility towards Congressional oversight already demonstrated at the ATF and Department of Justice during this investigation, this looks like even more evidence that the Obama administration let the ATF run wild, perhaps on purpose.
The more important question will be who O’Reilly told at the White House about the operation. Clearly, O’Reilly wanted the information to prepare for key meetings on a very sensitive subject. It’s hard to believe that O’Reilly would have kept that information to himself. Issa’s committee needs to get O’Reilly into the hearing and on the record, and it may be time to subpoena some White House records, too.

A group of atheist parasites has filed a lawsuit to stop the display of the World Trade Center cross at a memorial of the 9/11 terror attacks.
The “government enshrinement of the cross was an impermissible mingling of church and state,” the American Atheists say in a press statement.
The parasites say they filed the lawsuit this week in state court in New York and posted a copy of the lawsuit on their website.
The lawsuit names many defendants, including the state of New Jersey, the city of New York , New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg and New Jersey Governor Chris Christie.
The World Trade Center cross, two intersecting steel beams that held up when the twin towers collapsed on September 11, 2001, is seen as iconic to some.
The cross was moved Saturday from near a church to its new home at the 9/11 Memorial and Museum. There was also ceremonial blessing of the cross in a service led by Father Brian Jordan, a Franciscan monk who ministered to workers clearing the area after the 9/11 attacks.
Joe Daniels, 9/11 Memorial president, said Saturday that the cross is “an important part of our commitment to bring back the authentic physical reminders that tell the history of 9/11 in a way nothing else could.
“Its return is a symbol of the progress on the Memorial & Museum that we feel rather than see, reminding us that commemoration is at the heart of our mission.”
But the atheist parasites say the cross sends a symbol of something different.
“The WTC cross has become a Christian icon,” said Dave Silverman, president of the atheist parasites group. “It has been blessed by so-called holy men and presented as a reminder that their god, who couldn’t be bothered to stop the Muslim terrorists or prevent 3,000 people from being killed in his name, cared only enough to bestow upon us some rubble that resembles a cross. It’s a truly ridiculous assertion.”

Cops: California Man Tries To Remove Own Hernia With Butter Knife – Pioneer Press
A Southern California man stuck a butter knife into his belly in a failed bid at self-surgery to remove a painful hernia, police said Tuesday.
The wife of the 63-year-old Glendale man called 911 on Sunday night and told the emergency operator her husband was using a knife to remove a protruding hernia, Sgt. Tom Lorenz said.
“She said he had impaled himself with a knife,” Lorenz said.
A hernia occurs when all or part of an organ or fatty tissue squeezes through a hole or a weak spot in a surrounding muscle or connective tissue. While the man said he was trying to remove a hernia, hernias are normally repaired by doctors in a hospital or medical setting involving some type of procedure to push the organ back in.
Officers found the man naked on a patio lounge chair outside his apartment with a 6-inch butter knife sticking out of his stomach. The man’s wife told officers that her husband was upset about the hernia and wanted to take it out.
While waiting for paramedics, the sergeant said, the man pulled out the knife and stuffed a cigarette he was smoking into the bleeding, open wound.
“What he was thinking, I don’t know. I don’t know if he was cauterizing it (the wound),” Lorenz said.
The man wasn’t screaming or showing any signs of pain, the sergeant said.
Based on his actions and statements from the wife, Lorenz said the man was placed on psychiatric hold and taken to Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center.
Because he’s on psychiatric hold for up to 72 hours under the state Welfare and Institutions Code, Lorenz said the man’s name and condition cannot be released.
“You just never know what to expect,” said Lorenz, who has been on the police force for 29 years. “I’ve seen self-mutilation, but not a maneuver like this.”

Boehner Rewriting Deficit Bill After CBO Score – Roll Call
The Congressional Budget Office delivered the bad news to Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) on Tuesday evening that his deficit reduction proposal cuts just $1 billion from the deficit next year, sending staffers scrambling to rewrite the legislation.
Boehner spokesman Michael Steel said House Republicans are reworking the bill to make sure spending cuts exceed any increase in the debt limit.
“We’re here to change Washington: no more smoke and mirrors, no more ‘phantom cuts,’” Steel said. “We promised that we will cut spending more than we increase the debt limit, with no tax hikes, and we will keep that promise.
“As we speak, Congressional staff are looking at options to rewrite the legislation to meet our pledge. This is what can happen when you have an actual plan and submit it for independent review, which the Democrats who run Washington have refused to do.”
The CBO score appeared to add to Boehner’s troubles as he struggles to corral the House Republican Conference to back his bill on the floor Wednesday.
Using an up-to-date baseline, the CBO estimated that Boehner’s bill would save $850 billion over the next decade, which is less than the immediate $1 trillion debt limit increase that the measure includes. Relative to the January baseline, it would save a bit more: $1.1 trillion. That’s because the up-to-date baseline incorporates cuts already enacted, including the continuing resolution funding the government.
Under the current baseline, the bill would cut the deficit by just $1 billion next year because a $4 billion cut to discretionary spending is partially offset by a $3 billion increase in mandatory spending. The bill actually increases spending upfront for Pell Grants by $4 billion next year, CBO said.
Most of the cuts are backloaded in the second half of the 10-year budget window, the CBO report projects, with just $17 billion in deficit reduction in the first two years combined.
Boehner’s bill, however, also promises much deeper cuts in the future by pegging a future debt limit increase to enactment of a separate $1.8 trillion deficit reduction package by Congress.
But that hasn’t been enough for some conservative Republicans, some of whom have ripped the bill because it would only include relatively small spending cuts upfront, promises of bigger cuts later and no guarantee of enacting a balanced budget amendment to the Constitution.
ATF Agent Who Implemented ‘Fast And Furious’ Says 4 Federal Agencies Were ‘Full Partners’ (Video)
Four federal agencies were “full partners” in the Obama administration’s bungled Operation Fast and Furious, which allowed guns to wind up in the hands of Mexican drug lords, the man who implemented the program revealed today at a hearing of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee.
William Newell, the former head of the Phoenix field office of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, was pressed by Rep. Pat Meehan, R-Penn. to identify all the federal agencies involved in the operation.
In response, Newell identified the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the Drug Enforcement Administration, and the Internal Revenue Service as “full partners” with the ATF.
The DEA and ATF are both part of the Department of Justice and ICE is part of the Department of Homeland Security.

Democrat Congressman Luis Gutierrez Arrested Again Outside White House During Dream Act Rally, Slammed Obama On Immigration
On Tuesday Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-Illinois) was arrested outside of the White House during a Dream Act rally. The Congressman was reportedly arrested after refusing to move when asked by authorities.

Gutierrez, who sat in front of a sign that read “Stop Separating Our Families” with a line of protesters, refused to leave when asked by the police. Gutierrez was in attendance at a rally urging President Obama to do more to stop the deportation of illegal immigrants.
MRCTV caught up with Gutierrez before he was arrested in which he said, “I think (President Obama) should use the broad discretionary power that the laws have conferred upon him and make decisions, smart decisions” in regards to deportation. The arrest occurred around 4:40 pm.
But this isn’t the first time Gutierrez has been arrested. According to reports, Gutierrez was arrested in 2000 along with Lolita Lebron – the Puerto Rican national who spent 25 years in prison for a shooting attack on the U.S. Congress nearly a half-century ago – during a supposedly “nonviolent” resistance against the federal government. The Nation reports:
Forty-six years after Lolita Lebrón and fellow Puerto Rican nationalists shot up the House of Representatives, wounding five members in a desperate act of defiance, Lebrón, along with Puerto Rican members of Congress Luis Gutiérrez and Nydia Velázquez, were arrested for an act of nonviolent resistance against the federal government. On May 4, 300 US Marshals and FBI agents cleared about 200 demonstrators from a Navy bombing range on the embattled island of Vieques. “Puerto Rico has been invaded again,” said New York City Councilman José Rivera as he was led away. For Puerto Ricans on the island and the mainland, this was just another display of nineteenth-century gunboat diplomacy.
And then, in 2010, Gutierezz was arrested yet again in front of the White House along with about 35 other immigration advocates, after reportedly defying police orders to move during a protest.
So is Rep. Gutierrez perhaps engaging in Saul Alinsky’s tactics of civil disobedience to achieve his goals?

U.S. Postal Service To Close 3,700 Post Offices As Customers Turn To Grocery Stores And Email
Nearly 3,700 U.S. post offices are facing closure due to lack of business and the popularity of email, the Postal Service has announced.
The financially-troubled agency announced today it will study 3,653 local offices, branches and stations for possible closing as more customers use grocery stores, drug stores and office supply stores.
Many of the stores facing closure may be replaced by Village Post Offices in which postal services are offered in local stores, libraries or government offices.
The Postal Service said it is considering the future of one in ten of its retail outlets as part of the shrinking operation.
The post office currently operates 31,871 retail outlets in America, down from 38,000 a decade ago, but recently business has declined sharply, leaving bosses with ‘tough choices’.
Postmaster General Patrick Donahoe said today: ‘It’s no secret that the Postal Service is looking to change the way we do a lot of things
‘We do feel that we are still relevant to the American public and the economy, but we have to make some tough choices.’
In addition, the recession resulted in a decline in advertising mail, and the agency lost $8 billion last year.
Most of the offices that face review are in rural areas and have low volumes of business. As many as 3,000 post offices have only two hours of business a day even though they are open longer, said postal vice president Dean Granholm.
Coming under review doesn’t necessarily mean an office will close. The post office announced in January it was reviewing 1,400 offices for closing.
So far 280 have been closed and 200 have finished the review process and will remain open.
Mr Donahoe added: ‘Today, more than 35 percent of the Postal Service’s retail revenue comes from expanded access locations such as grocery stores, drug stores, office supply stores, retail chains, self-service kiosks, ATMs and usps.com, open 24/7.
‘Our customer’s habits have made it clear that they no longer require a physical post office to conduct most of their postal business.’
The list of post offices targeted for ‘expanded access,’ as the USPS is describing the possible closures, includes big-city outlets and remote retail locations.
Several dozen outlets are being considered for closure in New York City, for example.
Art Sackler, chairman of the Coalition for a 21st Century Postal Service, a mailing industry group, said: ‘This is bitter medicine, but changed times call for a changed Postal Service.
‘With mail volumes declining at a dizzying rate, we need a Postal Service that is leaner, more efficient and less expensive.
‘The closure of a post office can be difficult, but these avenues must be explored to ensure that the Postal Service and the 8 million private sector jobs that rely on it are able to survive, and that the economy as a whole doesn’t take yet another disruptive blow.’
Over the last four years the Postal Service, which does not receive tax funds for its operations, has cut its staff by about 130,000 and reduced costs by $12 billion in an effort to cope with the loss of first class mail to the Internet and the decline in advertising mail caused by the recession.

Despite his promise that passage of the health-insurance overhaul bill would allow people to keep their current health insurance, a new report from the National Federation of Independent Business shows that one in eight small businesses have had to stop offering insurance to their employees. The Daily Caller notes that the change has not been voluntary:
Among the most striking of NFIB’s findings was the number of employer health insurance plans that have been or will be eliminated since PPACA’s passage – 14 percent, or one in eight. Eliminating employer health care plans “is the first major consequence of PPACA that small-business owners likely feel,” the report said.
“We are not aware of any data suggesting we’ve had turnover anywhere near this level in the past,” said William J. Dennis, a senior research fellow at the National Federation for Independent Business.
The NFIB study also found 20 percent of small employers expect to significantly change their benefit packages the next time they renew their health insurance plans. Almost all of them expected to see diminished benefits, increased employee costs, or both.
The report makes clear that the change has mainly been imposed on small businesses. Left on their own, they would have continued coverage, but in response to ObamaCare, insurers have curtailed the plans offered to smaller employers:
The considerable changes expected are in part prodded by plans that have effectively been eliminated by insurers. One of the great “promises” of PPACA supporters was that insured people would be able to keep their current health insurance plan. As a practical matter that has not been true for a substantial number of small employers and their employees. Since enactment, one in eight (12%) small employers have either had their health insurance plans terminated or been told that their plan would not be available in the future (Q. 5).
There are some legitimate questions about this survey. Many of the questions asked are of opinions and projections rather than already-known events. The sample size is light as well, with only 750 businesses surveyed by NFIB. That’s not an inadequate sample for a national survey, but it’s not exactly robust either.
Still, the core question involves events that have already transpired, which is either cancellations or notices of cancellations from insurers. If 14 12% of the sample reported those outcomes, that means that 90 businesses have been either cut off or warned of cutoffs on their existing plans, with an impact averaging somewhere around 4500 employees. That’s a significant result, especially given the “you can keep your health-care plan” rhetoric coming from the White House while urging passage of ObamaCare.
It also demonstrates one reason why businesses aren’t enthusiastic about expansion. Under these circumstances, businesses can’t price the costs of their existing staffs, let alone additions to them through capital investment and expansion. When risk can’t be quantified with some degree of certainty, then risk simply isn’t taken – and we get the stagnation we’ve seen for the last two years.

John F. Kerry almost became president running on the basis of his alleged heroism in Vietnam. Thanks to the efforts of a group of truth-tellers, the Swiftboat Veterans for Truth, the serious holes in the fantasy narrative propounded by the Kerry campaign came to the attention of enough Americans that John Kerry was not the first faux-Irish President of the United States.
One of Kerry’s enablers in propounding his imaginary heroism was a man named Wade Sanders, who himself held a Silver Star, and who introduced Kerry to the Democratic Convention. Scott Swett, who was central to the unraveling of the Kerry storyline, tells us that the Kerry enabler has been exposed for what he is. His Winter Soldier site has the details:
John Kerry was introduced at the 2004 Democratic National Convention by Wade Sanders, a retired Navy Captain and former Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Navy who served as a Swift Boat officer in Vietnam. Like Kerry, Sanders was the recipient of a Silver Star for gallantry in action. During the 2004 campaign, Sanders functioned as Kerry lead attack dog against the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, repeatedly denouncing the veterans on the air as liars and comparing them to Nazi propagandists.
Wade Sanders is now in Federal prison, serving a 37-month sentence for possessing child pornography. Now the Navy Times reports that Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus has revoked Sanders’ Silver Star. The highly unusual decision appears unrelated to Sanders’ felony conviction. A Navy spokesman cited “subsequently determined facts and evidence surrounding both the incident for which the award was made and the processing of the award itself.” John Kerry has to be hoping this doesn’t become a trend.
As one might imagine, the media has ignored this story. Even the Navy Times declined to post its own article online.

Democrat Rep. David Wu To Resign Over Sex Scandal – Christian Post
Rep. David Wu (D-Ore.), who is facing ethics charges for having “aggressive and unwanted” sex with the teenage daughter of a friend and political supporter, said on Tuesday that he will be resigning.
“The time has come to hand on the privilege of high office,” Wu said in a statement. “I cannot care for my family the way I wish while serving in Congress and fighting these very serious allegations.”
Over the weekend, reports began to surface about the alleged encounter that happened in November of 2010. Wu spoke first with Democratic leaders, including House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi on Saturday, who after first learning of the issue said it was “extremely troubling” to her.
Pelosi later called for the House Ethics Committee to investigate the matter and as a result, Wu began coming under intense scrutiny from colleagues and constituents. Additionally, Wu’s past behavior has concerned campaign and congressional staff, causing some to resign in mass.
The pressure on Wu began to further escalate when both of Oregon’s two Democratic senators – Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley – called for his resignation.
In a joint statement issued earlier today, they said:
“The accusations against David Wu are jarring and exceptionally serious. While he – like every American – deserves an opportunity to address those accusations and defend himself, our constituents in the first district of Oregon deserve a member in the House of Representatives whose main focus is fighting for their interests,” the senators said.
“This is a critical time for our state and our nation and Oregonians need every member of their Congressional delegation to be effective. While no one takes pleasure in asking a colleague to resign, we believe he can no longer be an effective representative for our shared constituents and should, in the best interest of Oregon, step down.”
On Monday, Wu confided in his close friend and House Democratic Caucus Chairman Rep. John Larson (D-Conn.), who in his advice to Wu said, “Dave, you have to do what’s in the best interest of your young family, and yourself and then the institution, in that order.”
Larson also told Wu that “there are no good answers to this,” during their conversation.
The congressional district Wu has represented since 1999 is heavily Democratic and he won each of his previous races by double-digit margins.
Wu is the second House Democrat to resign over sexual indiscretions this year. In June, former Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.) resigned after sending inappropriate messages and photographs to several women via Twitter.
When Wu’s resignation is effective and his seat has been officially vacated, Oregon Governor John Kitzhaber will call a special election.

The Obama administration is spitting on the graves of our heroes, and in the faces of their survivors.
(Fox News Radio) — A Texas lawmaker is calling for a Congressional investigation of the Houston National Cemetery after he went undercover and determined that cemetery officials are still preventing Christian prayers at the funerals of military veterans.
“The Obama administration continues to try to prevent the word ‘God’ from being used at the funerals of our heroes,” said. Rep. John Culberson (R-TX). “It’s unacceptable and I’m going to put a stop to it as fast as humanly possible.”
Culberson told Fox News Radio he attended a burial service at the cemetery under cover on July 8 where he said volunteer members of the honor guard from the Veterans of Foreign Wars were prohibited from using any references to God.

Culberson said the commander of the honor guard was told to by cemetery officials to approach a grieving widow to reconfirm that she wanted the word God mentioned at her husband’s graveside service.
“He quite correctly said as a Texan and a man of honor and integrity, ‘I’m not bothering that poor woman at this most terrible time of her life. We’re going to do the ritual,’” Culberson said. “Right in front of me, the V.A. directly and deliberately attempted to prevent the VFW from doing their magnificent, spiritual ritual over the grave of this fallen hero.
The cemetery is already the focus of a lawsuit filed on behalf of the VFW, an American Legion post and Houston’s National Memorial Ladies. They claim the V.A. banned members of the organizations from using the words “God” or “Jesus” at burial services. They also allege they were banned from reciting prayers or using religious language during services unless families approved the text in advance.
Culberson, who oversees the sub-committee responsible for funding the cemetery, said that he wants the cemetery director fired – and he’s willing to do whatever possible to make sure that happens.
“The cemetery director has to leave,” he said. “I will zero out her salary. If she attempts to work for the VA anywhere in the state of Texas her salary will be zero.”“It makes my skin crawl that liberals are attempting to drive prayer out of a funeral ceremony for our heroes,” Culberson said. “We’re going to fix this so that no Obama liberal bureaucrat will interfere with the funeral of a hero.”

A group of atheists has filed a lawsuit to stop the display of the World Trade Center cross at a memorial of the 9/11 terror attacks.
The “government enshrinement of the cross was an impermissible mingling of church and state,” the American Atheists say in a press statement.
The group says it filed the lawsuit this week in state court in New York and posted a copy of the lawsuit on its website.
The lawsuit names many defendants, including the state of New Jersey, the city of New York , New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg and New Jersey Governor Chris Christie.
The World Trade Center cross, two intersecting steel beams that held up when the twin towers collapsed on September 11, 2001, is seen as iconic to some.
