I had a steak last night, Al Gore hardest hit
The angriest Envirocrat is back, and he wants you to stop eating meat
Al Gore wants society to ditch meat-heavy diets and go organic to combat global warming.
“Industrial agriculture is a part of the problem,” Gore said Friday during an interview with FearLess Revolution founder Alex Bogusky. “The shift toward a more meat-intensive diet,” the clearing of forest areas in many parts of the world in order to raise more cattle and the reliance on synthetic nitrogen for fertilizer are also problems, he added.
Blah, blah, blah, am I the only one tired of these talking points? I bet not, and I doubt I will be the only one PO’ed that Gore is now playing The Race Card
The former vice president also criticized climate change skeptics, urging those who support curbs to greenhouse gases to “win the conversation” when it comes to global warming. He compared the struggle against climate skeptics to the fight against racism during the civil rights movement.
When racist comments would come up in the course of conversations, “There came a time when people said, ‘Hey man, why do you talk that way? That’s wrong, I don’t go for that, so don’t talk that way around me. I just don’t believe that.’
Is there any smear the Left will not use to get their way? Is there any point where they look in the mirror and think “you know if I have to lie, or use smear tactics to win the debate, maybe I am wrong on the issues” When do Leftists reach that point? Sadly, never it seems.

Irene Takes Aim On Northeast: 2 Million Ordered Out; ‘People May Die,’ NYC Mayor Warns
Hurricane Irene caused extraordinary disruption Friday as it zeroed in for a catastrophic run up the Eastern Seaboard. More than 2 million people were ordered to move to safer places, and New York announced plans to shut down its entire network of subways for the first time because of a natural disaster.
As the storm’s outermost bands of wind and rain began to lash the Outer Banks of North Carolina, authorities in points farther north begged people to get out of harm’s way. The hurricane lost some strength but still packed winds of almost 100 mph, and officials feared it could wreak devastation in a region not used to tropical weather.
“Don’t wait. Don’t delay,” said President Barack Obama, who decided to cut short his summer vacation by a day and return to Washington. “I cannot stress this highly enough: If you are in the projected path of this hurricane, you have to take precautions now.”
Hurricane warnings were issued from North Carolina to New York, and watches were posted farther north, on the islands of Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard off Massachusetts. Evacuation orders covered 1 million people in New Jersey, 315,000 in Maryland, 300,000 in North Carolina and 100,000 in Delaware.
“This is probably the largest number of people that have been threatened by a single hurricane in the United States,” said Jay Baker, a geography professor at Florida State University.
New York City ordered more than 300,000 people who live in flood-prone areas to leave, including Battery Park City at the southern tip of Manhattan, Coney Island and the beachfront Rockaways. But it was not clear how many would do it, how they would get out or where they would go. Most New Yorkers don’t have a car.
On top of that, the city said it would shut down the subways and buses at noon Saturday, only a few hours after the first rain is expected to fall. The transit system carries about 5 million people on an average weekday, fewer on weekends. It has been shut down several times before, including during a transit workers’ strike in 2005 and after the Sept. 11 attacks a decade ago, but never for weather.
Mayor Michael Bloomberg said there was little authorities could do to force people to leave.
“We do not have the manpower to go door-to-door and drag people out of their homes,” he said. “Nobody’s going to get fined. Nobody’s going to go to jail. But if you don’t follow this, people may die.”
Shelters were opening Friday afternoon, and the city was placed under its first hurricane warning since 1985.
Transit systems in New Jersey and Philadelphia also announced plans to shut down, and Washington declared a state of emergency.
Hundreds of thousands of airline passengers were grounded for the weekend. JetBlue Airways said it was scrubbing about 880 flights between Saturday and Monday, most to and from hub airports in New York and Boston. Other airlines said they were waiting to be more certain about Irene’s path before announcing more cancellations.
Thousands of people were already without power.
In Charleston, S.C., several people had to be rescued after a tree fell on their car.
Defying the orders, hardy holdouts in North Carolina put plywood on windows, gathered last-minute supplies and tied down boats. More than half the people who live on two remote islands, Hatteras and Ocracoke, had ignored orders to leave, and as time to change their minds ran short, officials ordered dozens of body bags. The last ferry from Ocracoke was set to leave at 4 p.m. Friday.
“I anticipate we’re going to have people floating on the streets, and I don’t want to leave them lying there,” said Richard Marlin, fire chief for one of the seven villages on Hatteras. “The Coast Guard will either be pulling people off their roofs like in Katrina or we’ll be scraping them out of their yards.”
Officially, Irene was expected to make landfall Saturday near Morehead City, on the southern end of the Outer Banks, the barrier island chain. But long before the eye crossed the coastline, the blustery winds and intermittent rains were already raking the coast.
National Hurricane Center meteorologist David Zelinsky said earlier Friday that he expected the storm to arrive as a Category 2 or 3 hurricane. Later in the day, other forecasts showed it would strike most of the coast as a Category 1. The scale runs from 1, barely stronger than a tropical storm, to a monstrous 5. On Friday afternoon, Irene was a Category 2.
Regardless of how fierce the storm is when it makes landfall, the coast of North Carolina was expected to get winds of more than 100 mph and waves perhaps as high as 11 feet, Zelinsky said.
“This is a really large hurricane and it is dangerous,” he said. “Whether it is a Category 2 or 3 at landfall, the effects are still going to be strong. I would encourage people to take it seriously.”
Officer Edward Mann was driving down the narrow streets of Nags Head looking for cars in driveways, a telltale sign of people planning to ride out the storm against all advice.
Bucky Domanski, 71, was working in his garage when Mann walked in. He told the officer he planned to stay. Mann handed Domanski a piece of paper with details about the county’s evacuation order. It warned that hurricane force winds would flood the roads and there might not be power or water until well after the storm.
“You understand we can’t help you during the storm,” Mann said.
“I understand,” Domanski replied.
After the Outer Banks, the next target for Irene was the Hampton Roads region of southeast Virginia, a jagged network of inlets and rivers that floods easily. Emergency officials have said the region is more threatened by storm surge, the high waves that accompany a storm, than wind. Gas stations there were low on fuel Friday, and grocery stores scrambled to keep water and bread on the shelves.
In Delaware, Gov. Jack Markell ordered an evacuation of coastal areas.
“We could be open tonight for business, but there’s a very fine line between doing the right thing and putting our staff at risk,” said Alex Heidenberger, owner of Mango Mike’s restaurant in Bethany Beach, who expects to lose $40,000 to $50,000 in business. “It’s not so much we’re worried about the storm coming tonight, but we want to give them a chance to get out of town and get their affairs in order.”
Officials at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington said they were speeding the transfer of their last remaining patients to the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Md. The transfer had been planned for Sunday.
In Baltimore’s Fells Point neighborhood, one of the city’s oldest waterfront neighborhoods, people filled sandbags and placed them at the entrances to buildings. A few miles away at the Port of Baltimore, vehicles and cranes continued to unload huge cargo ships that were rushing to offload and get away from the storm.
In Atlantic City, N.J., all 11 casinos announced plans to shut down Friday, only the third time that has happened in the 33-year history of legalized gambling in that state.
“I like gambling, but you don’t play with this,” Pearson Callender said as he waited for a Greyhound bus out of town. “People are saying this is an act of God. I just need to get home to be with my family.”

Horrific Attack By Two Dozen Gunmen Leaves 50+ Dead At Mexican Casino
Horrific Attack By Two Dozen Gunmen Leaves 50+ Dead At Mexican Casino – The Blaze
Two dozen gunmen burst into a casino in northern Mexico on Thursday, doused it with a flammable liquid and started a fire that trapped gamblers inside, killing at least 53 people and injuring many more, authorities said.
………………………
The fire at the Casino Royale in Monterrey, which has seen a surge in drug cartel-related violence, represented one of the deadliest attacks against an entertainment center in Mexico since President Felipe Calderon launched an offensive against drug cartels in late 2006.
.
.
State police officials quoted survivors as saying that about two dozen armed men burst into the casino, apparently to rob it, and began dousing the premises with fuel from tanks they brought with them. The officials were not authorized to be quoted by name for security reasons.
With shouts and profanities, the attackers told the customers and employees to get out. But many terrified customers and employees fled further inside the building, where they died trapped amid the flames and thick smoke that soon billowed out of the building.
Angel Flores, a commander of the Monterrey Green Cross rescue service, said 28 bodies had been recovered from the casino, and that more were likely to be recovered. He said most died of asphyxiation.
………………………
Monterrey Mayor Fernando Larrazabal said that many of the bodies were found inside the casino’s bathrooms, where employees and customers had locked themselves to escape the armed commando.
While there was no immediate information linking the attack to drug cartels, Monterrey has seen bloody turf battles between the Zetas and Gulf cartels in recent months. Once Mexico’s symbol of development and prosperity, drug-related murders here this year are on pace to double last year’s and triple those of the year before.
Maria Tomas Navarro, 42, stood weeping at the edge of the police tape stretched in front of the smoke-stained casino building. She was hoping for word of her brother, 25-year-old Genaro Navarro Vega, who had worked in the casino’s bingo area.
………………………
Navarro said she tried calling her brother’s cell phone “but he doesn’t answer. I don’t know what is happening,” she said. “There is nobody to ask.”
Larrazabal said the casino, in a well-off part of Monterrey, had been closed by authorities in May for building an expansion without a permit, but a judge later granted the owner an injunction to continue operating.
Initial reports said 11 people had been, but the death toll climbed as emergency personnel and firefighters continued to find bodies in the casino building. Medics treated the victims for smoke inhalation.
………………………
State police officials initially said witnesses reported hearing three explosions before the fire started, but later said that a flammable material was used. The officials were not authorized to be quoted by name for security reasons.
The reports of explosions may have been the sound of the ignition of the liquid.
The Casino Royale had been attacked by gunmen before; along with three other casinos, gunmen attacked the Royale on May 25.
DOJ Raids Gibson Guitars Looking For Illegal Wood
DOJ Raids Gibson Guitars Looking For Illegal Wood – Red State
The Department of Justice is under fire for taking the bold step of sending armed agents into the factories of Gibson Guitar in Nashville and Memphis to seize what it believes to be illegal wood.
………………………
Via press release from Gibson:
The Federal Department of Justice in Washington, D.C. has suggested that the use of wood from India that is not finished by Indian workers is illegal, not because of U.S. law, but because it is the Justice Department’s interpretation of a law in India. (If the same wood from the same tree was finished by Indian workers, the material would be legal.) This action was taken without the support and consent of the government in India.
Unbelievably enough, this was not the first time that the Gibson factories have been raided for this same reason.
In 2009, more than a dozen agents with automatic weapons invaded the Gibson factory in Nashville. The Government seized guitars and a substantial amount of ebony fingerboard blanks from Madagascar. To date, 1 year and 9 months later, criminal charges have NOT been filed, yet the Government still holds Gibson’s property. Gibson has obtained sworn statements and documents from the Madagascar government and these materials, which have been filed in federal court, show that the wood seized in 2009 was legally exported under Madagascar law and that no law has been violated. Gibson is attempting to have its property returned in a civil proceeding that is pending in federal court.
So why has the DOJ gone crazy for wood? They believe they are complying with the Lacey Act, specifically, this provision:
Anyone who imports into the United States, or exports out of the United States, illegally harvested plants or products made from illegally harvested plants, including timber, as well as anyone who exports, transports, sells, receives, acquires or purchases such products in the United States, may be prosecuted. In any prosecution under the Lacey Act, the burden of proof of a violation rests on the government. (emphasis mine)
It doesn’t seem that the DOJ has lived up to the standard emphasized above according to Gibson. They are asserting that the Justice Department is actually trying to shut down indefinitely the civil court case that Gibson filed to have their property returned. Given that Gibson is the premier guitar manufacturer worldwide, you have to wonder where the music industry is on this issue.
Reuters is reporting that the guitar maker is being charged with illegally importing wood under a U.S. law barring importation of endangered plants and woods.
In an affidavit, agent John Rayfield of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service said U.S. Customs agents in June detained a shipment of sawn ebony logs from India.
The paperwork accompanying the shipment identified it fraudulently as Indian ebony fingerboards for guitars and it did not say it was going to Gibson, the affidavit said.
Of course there will be some back and forth apparently on the legitimacy of the case and whether or not Gibson actually broke any laws, but one thing from the press release stood out to me:
The wood the Government seized on August 24 is from a Forest Stewardship Council certified supplier and is FSC Controlled, meaning that the wood complies with the standards of the Forest Stewardship Council, which is an industry-recognized and independent, not-for-profit organization established to promote responsible management of the world’s forests. FSC Controlled Wood standards require, among other things, that the wood not be illegally harvested and not be harvested in violation of traditional and civil rights. See www.fsc.org for more information. Gibson has a long history of supporting sustainable and responsible sources of wood and has worked diligently with entities such as the Rainforest Alliance and Greenpeace to secure FSC certified supplies. The wood seized on August 24 satisfied FSC standards. (emphasis mine)
I find it fascinating that Gibson had been in compliance with a self-regulatory agency like the FSC and has also been picked on by the government for alleged non-compliance. I’ve always believed that self-regulation is a viable alternative for many industries that currently answer to the overreaching government.
It’s hard not to see this as the government getting territorial about who gets paid to oversee American industry.
Sex Box With Genitalia Toys Will Teach Swiss Kindergarteners That Sex Is Pleasurable
Whatever happened to Jack-in-the-Box?
………………………
Swiss kindergarten children will soon have their own sex box and genitalia toys to teach them about the pleasures of sex.
Lifesite News reported, via Free Republic:
Kindergarten children in Basel, Switzerland will be presented this year with fabric models of human genitalia in a “sex box” to teach them that “contacting body parts can be pleasurable.”
The kit for teachers to give sex-education lessons to primary school children uses models and recommends having children massage each other or to rub themselves with warm sand bags, accompanied by soft music, according to The Local, a Swiss newspaper in English.
“Children should be encouraged to develop and experience their sexuality in a pleasurable way,” Daniel Schneider, a deputy kindergarten rector for Basel who helped develop the sex ed curriculum along with experts, had said earlier this year.
He added, “It’s important that they learn to say no if they don’t want to be touched in a certain area.”
Education officials who have reportedly been flooded with over 3000 complaints from outraged parents have agreed to change the program’s name, but will do nothing to stop the materials from being distributed in schools, according to The Local.
Christoph Eymann, Basel education minister and member of the liberal democrat party (LDP), told the paper SonntagsBlick, “It was no doubt stupid to call it a ‘sex box’ – we will change that.
“But we will stick to our goal: to get across to children that sexuality is something natural. Without forcing anything upon them or taking anything away from their parents.”

Indiana College Bans “Too Violent” National Anthem – WRC
Tiny Goshen College in Indiana has banned the The Star Spangled Banner: at all sporting events because the Mennonite school’s president considers the National Anthem’s words to be too violent.

The 1,000-student school had already banned the words last year, but the band could still play the music for patriots in attendance. Now, the school has banned the song entirely, according to NBC Sports.
The school’s board of directors told college President Jim Brenneman to “find an alternative to playing the National Anthem that fits with sports tradition, that honors country and that resonates with Goshen College’s core values and respects the views of diverse constituencies.”
Brenneman was okay with that.
“I am committed to retaining the best of what it means to be a Mennonite college, while opening the doors wider to all who share our core values,” Brenneman said. “And I invite others to join us at Goshen College as we make peace in all of its forms, even with the national anthem.”
Art professor John Blosser told The Goshen News that there is much national pride at the school, but that most people aren’t going to blindly accept what the country does.
NBC Sports’ Rick Chandler weighed in, saying: “I suppose we could have followed the example of the Mennonites and simply fled, giving the nation back to the British. But then we’d all be playing cricket.”

NYT editor wants Christian candidates to submit to a strict religion test
Bill Keller ought to rethink his position, and read the Constitution a bit more!
New York Times editor Bill Keller writes a loaded piece today posing a strict religion test for the 2012 GOP presidential candidates, noting that Americans are “too squeamish” about aggressively “probing” a candidates religious beliefs.
Keller isn’t worried about Mitt Romney, noting that he doesn’t care if Romney, “wears Mormon undergarments beneath his Gap skinny jeans, or if he believes that the stories of ancient American prophets were engraved on gold tablets and buried in upstate New York, or that Mormonism’s founding prophet practiced polygamy.”
What Keller is worried about is an evangelical “Trojan Horse.”
A Trojan Horse? Why is the Left is so afraid of any politician who is a Christian? Why is is they so deeply believe that Christians are plotting to make America a Theocracy?
Keller questions whether Bachmann believes the Bible is inerrant, homosexuality is an abomination, and whether she thinks slavery was acceptable in the American South.
Why on earth would he even think Bachman is a fan of slavery? What an outrageous line of thinking, and I hesitate to call such stupidity thinking.
He wants to ask Perry if he will use the Bible to drive policy, or disavow the Holocaust, or denounce Catholicism based on his pastoral acquaintances.
So now Perry needs to disavow the Holocaust? Good Grief!! Is Keller really going there?
His questionnaire asks the following:
•Do you agree with those religious leaders who say that America is a “Christian nation” or a “Judeo-Christian nation?” and what does that mean in practice?
We are a “Christian nation: in that we are a nation where the majority religion is Christianity. We are also, thankfully, a secular government that recognizes the religious freedom of all our people to worship, or not, as they choose.
•Would you have any hesitation about appointing a Muslim to the federal bench? What about an atheist?
•What is your attitude toward the theory of evolution, and do you believe it should be taught in public schools?
A stupid question this is. The president really has no control over what is taught in science classes. It is a question meant to distract the Republican candidates, so that the campaign will not focus on Obamanomics. This is yet another sign of the desperation of the Left.
It ought to be noted that these questions are meant to paint the GOP candidates as extreme. By merely asking these questions, Keller thinks that he could hurt the chances of the GOP nominee. What a sad commentary that is on the credibility of our media.
Pensioner ‘Kept Dead Flatmate’s Body On The Sofa For Two Years’
Pensioner ‘Kept Dead Flatmate’s Body On The Sofa For Two Years’ – Daily Mail
A rotting and skeletal corpse found dumped in the street could have been kept in a pensioner’s living room for years, it was claimed today.
A dog walker found the remains of 86-year-old Benjamin Benit inside a windsurfing bag under some bushes in Peckham, south London, last month.
However, on Tuesday police arrested a 75-year-old man – named by neighbours as the dead man’s partner Tom – at their nearby home, following the grisly discovery of a decomposing hand.

Discovery: The skeletal remains of the Benjamin Benit had been found in a bag, dumped in a street near his home in Peckham last month
The hand, thought to be Mr Benit’s, was discovered by council workers at the run-down third-floor flat on the Tustin estate and immediately alerted police.
It is now thought the body could have been kept on the sofa in the living room for years. Today it emerged that Mr Benit, who was registered at the property, disappeared several years ago.
Police are investigating possible benefit fraud and say his body may have been in the flat for two years or more. Neighbours reported a ‘foul stink’ as far back as six years ago.
Sources said the cause of death was not clear and a forensic archaeologist is expected to examine the remains. Experts have been examining the flat and a policeman stood guard outside the door yesterday.
One theory is that Mr Benit’s partner decided to move the body after fearing an inspection by council officers, with part of the corpse becoming dismembered because of the advanced state of decomposition.
Neighbours said the couple had been together for more than 10 years. Tracey Saunders, 38, said: ‘They were lovers. The police told us they found a hand there. It must have fallen off when the body was moved.’
Irene Rutter, 66, described Mr Benit as a ‘nice old man’. She added: ‘He always wore suit trousers, had long grey hair and kept a cat. Tom moved in and the pair would just drink all the time. Then Ben disappeared about six years ago. There was no funeral, nothing. He just vanished.
‘Tom would never speak to anyone, but there was a terrible stink from the flat. No one would go near it. There were a number of complaints but nothing was ever done.’
Habib Wurie, 43, who lives next door, said: ‘The place smelt so bad. I would try to speak to him about it. He would just make noises. I had a lot of difficulties with him.’
Mr Benit’s body was placed in nearby Lovelinch Close some time between 2pm on August 5 and the early hours of August 10. When he was found Mr Benit had a long, grey beard and long fingernails, and was wearing dark trousers and a light T-shirt with ‘England 2002 World Cup Champions’ on it.
A spokesman for Scotland Yard confirmed a 75-year-old man had been arrested and released on bail pending further inquiries.
Detective Chief Inspector Damian Allain, leading the inquiry, said: ‘The victim could have been dead for up to two years or possibly longer.
‘We are appealing for anyone who knew the occupants to come forward and help unravel exactly what happened here.
‘We are looking into the financial backgrounds of these individuals to see if benefits were claimed.
‘I am also appealing for anyone who saw anything suspicious between August 5 and the time the body was discovered to come forward.’
