Another year shot to hell! Ending 2011 with thanks-a-lot-links
Well, New Years Eve is here, and it is time to say thanks to all of our blogging allies who have helped us grow. I January, we were getting a bit over 650 hits a day, February saw just under 800 a day, march saw us at 825 a day. Then something happened, April we jumped to over 1,300 a day, May saw us move to over 1,450 a day. In July we made a huge leap to 1,765, and August saw us reach just under 1,900 a day. Last month, November, saw us break 2,000 hits a day, at 2,160, and December has us at over 2,600 a day. So, basically, we have quadrupled our visitors this year. This i due to hard work by Ed and myself, and to our blogging allies, who link us and send business our way. This post is dedicated to them!

Dan lays out a scenario, that,I must say, seems perfectly reasonable to me
There is a reason why we saw so many attacks on Texas Governor Rick Perry early on, even allowing for his self-inflicted debate wounds. He has always been the only real competition for Mitt Romney. That has not changed. Here is how things stand in Iowa today according to Marist.
23% for Mitt Romney (+4)
21% for Ron Paul (+2)
15% for Rick Santorum (+9)
14% for Rick Perry (+4)
13% for Newt Gingrich (-15)
6% for Michele Bachmann (-1)
2% for Jon Huntsman (No change)
7% are undecided (-2)
I don’t care about Paul’s die-hard, and some even fanatical, supporters, he is not a viable Republican candidate for the Oval Office. Santorum has always been all-in in Iowa, basically living there and visiting every district. That and his social conservatism gives him special appeal in Iowa. He’s a good man; however, I do not believe he will be able to attract the kind of money it takes to sustain a long, broad campaign, no matter how he finishes up.
Gingrich has had his run and is now collapsing nationally. I don’t see that trend reversing itself. When Newt gets into trouble, he always doubles down and manages to find a way to make it worse. Hell, he’s already had his first scandal as an executive, resorting to blaming a staffer for fraud that kept him off the ballot in Virginia. And we’re supposed to have faith in this guy to put the right people in some hypothetical administration? I don’t think so. Bachmann is also done. It’s over, call it a day after Iowa, Michelle.
I agree, Bachmann is done, thankfully, Huntsman is a non-factor. Santorum has Iowa and nothing else, sorry Stacy McCain, but I am not sure if I can overcome my natural distrust for any man that wears sweater vests. But seriously, like Dan here I think Santorum IS a good man, but he will not do much outside of Iowa. Newt? Nope!
Dan also predicts, quite correctly, that the Roves and other establishment GOP types will try to crown Romney as soon as Huntsman, and Bachmann drop out. Dan is, I think dead on target about the brutal, and bogus attacks on Perry early on. Perry is the one guy that ultimately Obama fears most, and that scares the Establishment GOP types the most as well.
Dan sums it up very well. If we, the Conservatives can resist the establishment whispering Romney in our ear, we will have a clear choice. And as I have said, a clear chance to REALLY change Washington!
There will be some give and take during what I’ll call stage 2 – see below. What must happen as things shake out is for the other competitors to fall away, leaving Perry as the last not fully DC establishment candidate remaining to oppose Mitt. This is the period during which conservatives must continue to come together and consolidate around Perry as the not-Mitt candidate, if you will. If we do that, the stage will be set for a head-to-head match up on Super Tuesday.

It will not be easy and is sure to be a tough, dirty fight. But if conservatives want a nominee more in line with their views, as opposed to Washington’s, then March 6 is the day to ultimately demonstrate it. Even then it will not be over. A positive is that Perry should prove to be the stronger of the two as we move on into the South. The way the schedule plays out, it could very well be a seesaw battle.
But if we can pull this off, conservatives will finally have the fight they want and also be in a position to win it. As a conservative, this is the best case scenario I can envision playing out. But we cannot give up early, or easily. Obviously, Texas Governor Rick Perry and his team must do their part, as well. Barring that, it will be Mitt and quite likely what Hillsdale College History Professor Paul Rahe recently called “just another bump in the long, gentle road leading us to soft despotism” given a Romney nomination and potential victory in 2012.
In the end, we will decide if we want to beat Obama and elect a “Moderate” who will only play at real change, or if we want to beat Obama and elect a Conservative who will do his best to bring real change and reform. Please, my fellow Conservatives, choose wisely.

While it’s inspiring to watch Thatcher in action, it’s also painful to realize that the current crop of GOP presidential candidates seems generally incapable of making similar arguments. Can you imagine, for instance, Mitt Romney making these remarks?
While I cannot imagine Romney saying something similar, unless his script writers told him to of course, I have heard VERY similar feeling shared by most of the current GOP field. No, not you John Hunstman. heck Ron Paul might have uttered something similar, I cannot say be cause I complete; ignore everything that crazy old bastard says. But I know the Perry, Santorum, Bachmann, and Newt have all echoed Thatcher’s sentiments.

Drunk Dude Brings Beer To AA Meeting, Is Arrested After Refusing To Leave – Weekly Vice
Darrin Porter, a 45-year-old Cincinnati man was jailed Monday after he allegedly showed up drunk to an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting, then refused to leave.
According to Cincinnati police, Porter walked into an AA meeting at the Twelve Step House on Hamilton Avenue in College Hill extremely intoxicated and holding a can of beer.
Group members asked him to leave, but he refused to go peacefully and had to be carried out of the building.
Investigators say when deputies arrived on the scene, Porter refused to answer any of the questions he was asked and instead asked the officers for their names and social security numbers.
Porter was booked into jail and charged with disorderly conduct and obstructing official business. His bond was set at $1,500.

A U.S. Marine Corps officer said Friday he reacted as he was trained to do by chasing two men who stole a gold necklace he thought they were buying, and then using his fingers to plug bullet holes in his body when one of them opened fire.
Lt. Col. Karl Trenker, a 29-year Marine Corps veteran who served in Iraq and Afghanistan, demonstrated at a hospital news conference how he stuck his fingers on his left hand into two holes in his left chest and another finger from his right hand where a .22-caliber bullet entered his abdomen. His doctor said the move helped staunch the flow of blood.
“I’m a Marine and I’m not going to run from a fight,” Trenker said. “You wouldn’t want a Marine to run from a fight. Call me crazy, call me stupid. I got shot once and it just angered me more. I wanted to get this guy. I got shot twice, and I re-evaluated that decision. I decided I need to stay alive.”
As for the use of his fingers, Trenker said, “I improvised.”
Trenker, 48, was shot multiple times Dec. 21. He had driven with four of his children to meet a man who responded to a Craigslist ad for the necklace. Two suspects are jailed on attempted murder and robbery charges.
Trenker, who was released Friday from North Broward Medical Center, will be left with one slug lodged in his pelvis but otherwise should make a full recovery, said Dr. Igor Nichiporenko. The doctor credited Trenker’s military training and fitness for his rapid recovery – as well as his use of fingers to plug the bullet holes.
“I think he did the right thing,” Nichiporenko said. “It’s amazing. He’s going to be fine.”
The 18-inch necklace was put on Craigslist by Trenker’s fiancée, Tanya Saiz, who initially planned to meet the man and make the deal herself. The idea, she said, was to get a little extra cash for a surprise Christmas present for Trenker. But Trenker said he’d go instead, thinking that there could be a little danger involved. He figured he’d take the kids on to the beach afterward.
Even though he met the men in broad daylight at a busy apartment complex, one of them grabbed the necklace and ran off. After Trenker chased them and was shot, he made his way back to his truck – where his four young boys were – and called Saiz on his cell phone to tell her he’d been shot.

Nichiporenko said Trenker was bleeding internally and externally when he arrived at the hospital and was immediately taken into surgery. The gunshot to his abdomen required removal of a portion of one intestine, the doctor said.
Meanwhile, a Broward Sheriff’s Office report said Trenker’s 12-year-old son gave a detailed description of the assailants, who were quickly apprehended nearby. The men, James Flounory and Jeff Steele, both 20, are being held without bail; court records Friday did not indicate whether either man had a lawyer. A third man is charged with attempting to hide the gun.
Trenker said he intends to have a good holiday meal, get started on physical therapy and eventually return to active duty at the Marine Corps unit attached to the Miami-based U.S. Southern Command. His job there involves operations planning for counternarcotics and counterterrorism missions, one of which recently resulted in seizure of a 4,400-pound cocaine load off Honduras worth some $245 million.
“I believe according to my faith that somebody was watching over me. It could have been a lot worse,” he said. “I feel extremely lucky.”

Two doctors accused of performing late-term abortions in Maryland, including one in which a woman was critically injured, have been arrested and charged with murder.
Dr. Steven Brigham, of Voorhees, N.J., was arrested Wednesday night in New Jersey and was being held in the Camden County Jail on Thursday, police told The Cecil Whig newspaper.
Authorities also arrested Dr. Nicola Irene Riley, of Salt Lake City, Utah, on Wednesday night.
Riley was being held in the Salt Lake City Jail. Both are awaiting an extradition hearing.

Investigators with the Elkton Police Department say they asked police in New Jersey and Utah to arrest the doctors after a Cecil County grand jury handed up indictments against Brigham and Riley earlier Wednesday, capping a 16-month-long investigation.
Police say they began their investigation in August 2010 after a botched procedure at Brigham’s Elkton clinic. Authorities say an 18-year-old woman who was 21 weeks pregnant had her uterus ruptured and her bowel injured, and rather than call 911, Brigham and his colleague Dr. Nicola Riley drove the woman to a nearby hospital, where both were uncooperative and Brigham refused to give his name.
That incident resulted in the murder case against Riley and three of the 11 murder charges against Brigham, prosecutors said. The other charges against Brigham relate to four other illegal abortions he performed at the East High Street Clinic, prosecutors added.
A search of the Elkton clinic after the botched abortion revealed a freezer with 35 late-term fetuses inside, including one believed to have been aborted at 36 weeks.
Brigham started the late-term abortions in New Jersey, where he wasn’t permitted to perform them, and finished them a day later in Maryland, where the law is more permissive, authorities said.
Police say Brigham faces five counts each of first- and second-degree murder. Riley is charged with one count each of first- and second-degree murder. Brigham and Riley each also face one count of conspiracy to commit first-degree murder.

Al-Qaeda has sent top jihadists to Libya to fill the power vacuum left after the Gaddafi regime was removed from power by Barack Obama and NATO.

Al Qaeda’s leadership has sent experienced jihadists to Libya in an effort to build a fighting force there, according to a Libyan source briefed by Western counter-terrorism officials.
The jihadists include one veteran fighter who had been detained in Britain on suspicion of terrorism. The source describes him as committed to al Qaeda’s global cause and to attacking U.S. interests.
The source told CNN that the al Qaeda leader, Ayman al-Zawahiri, personally dispatched the former British detainee to Libya earlier this year as the Gadhafi regime lost control of large swathes of the country.
The man arrived in Libya in May and has since begun recruiting fighters in the eastern region of the country, near the Egyptian border. He now has some 200 fighters mobilized, the source added. Western intelligence agencies are aware of his activities, according to the source.
Another al Qaeda operative, of dual European-Libyan nationality, was arrested in an unnamed country on his way to Libya from the Afghan-Pakistan border region.
