A Statist hunger for totalitarianism is never sated

Zion’s Trumpet links to a column by Michelle Malkin that ought to be heeded by everyone in America.

President Obama and his radical feminist enforcers have had it in for Catholic medical providers from the get-go. It’s about time all people of faith fought back against this unprecedented encroachment on religious liberty. First, they came for the Catholics. Who’s next?

This weekend, Catholic bishops informed parishioners of the recent White House edict forcing religious hospitals, schools, charities and other health and social service providers to provide “free” abortifacient pills, sterilizations and contraception on demand in their insurance plans — even if it violates their moral consciences and the teachings of their churches.

NARAL, NOW, Ms. Magazine and the Feminist Majority Foundation all cheered the administration’s abuse of the Obamacare law to ram abortion down pro-life medical professionals’ throats. Femme dinosaur Eleanor Smeal gloated over the news that the administration had rejected church officials’ pleas for compromises: “At last,” she exulted, the left’s goal of “no-cost birth control” for all had been achieved.

So, why should someone who is pro-choice be chilled by this power grab? Because, if this is allowed to stand, the power grabs will not stop. Be sure that someone, some religion, some activity, or some group will be next to feel the heel of Obama’s boot. Yes, I know, I will catch hell for using that phrase, so maybe it will be me that is next? Along with other bloggers and op-ed writers who dare to challenge the Statism that has become such an integral part of everything this administration does. Maybe the next group will lean Leftwards in their ideology. Be certain, that no matter which direction the Obama power grab directs its Statism, all of us better stand against it, lest we all lose our liberties.

If history has taught us any lesson at all, it has taught us that Statists are never satisfied. They long for one thing, total control of everything. The economy, religious freedom, speech, the media, education, property, you name it and a Statist wishes to control it. Michelle’s column shows us that Team Obama has no respect for religious liberty. Nor do they respect the Constitution, nor the various courts that have attempted to check their power grabs. Like FDR, Obama sees the Supreme Court as the enemy it seems, in this he has much in common with another Statist, FDR, who was willing to destroy the high court to implement his “New Deal”.

The economic mess we are in has been made worse by Obama’s regulations. When Obama could not get Cap and Trade through Congress, he simply ordered the EPA to implement it. These regulations have, and will have devastating consequences for energy businesses across America, and yes, for everyone who uses energy as well. After the BP oil spill, the administration refused to approve new permits for deep water drilling in the Gulf, despite a judge’s order

A federal judge in New Orleans on Thursday ordered the Obama administration to move quickly on permits for new deepwater oil wells in the Gulf of Mexico, saying that the government could no longer justify long delays in allowing new projects to go forward. …

“Not acting at all is not a lawful option,” Judge Feldman wrote, adding that the delays are “increasingly inexcusable” and were causing drilling companies to relocate their rigs to foreign waters.

Not only that, Judge Feldman has ordered the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement (BOEMRE) to act on five pending permits within 30 days, and to report on its progress to the court. Those permits have been pending for as much as 10 months.

Clearly, court decisions are meaningless to Obama. He is hell-bent on “transforming America”. But transforming us into what? Certainly not a nation that respects its founding principles, or the supreme law of the land, the United States Constitution. Obama, and his fellow Democrats have shown that they will ram legislation through, whether or not the American people support it. Obama has shown that he will go around Congress in order to implement things he thinks best for America. He has shown his complete disinterest in doing anything to stimulate business growth, or to create jobs. He has shown that he is bought and paid for by unions, and he has shown his complete willingness to engage in class warfare. He has shown his willingness to use language that divides Americans to get his way.

Obama has also shown that he feels a need to apologize for America, and to downgrade our standing in  the world, both financially, and militarily. He wants to gut our military with drastic spending cuts, making us less secure. And do I even need top go into Fast and Furious, or how this administration is using their own acts to justify gun control in violation of the 2nd amendment? One has to ask is there any liberty that Obama respects? Are there any lengths he and his administration will not go to to reshape America in to his vision? Speaking of Attorney General Eric Holder, do not forget that he abjectly refused to investigate voter intimidation in Philadelphia. Do not forget that he called America a “nation of cowards” on the issue of race while he ignored racist thugs, ARMED racist thugs attempting to stop White voters from entering a polling place in Philly.

So, understand that it may be Catholic hospitals and doctors that are the targets now, but it might be you next, or me, or our neighbor. Sure it is energy companies in the crosshairs now, but it will be other industries soon enough, just ask Gibson Guitars. So, ask yourself if you are willing to re-elect Obama in November. Or are you ready to send the Statist-in Chief packing? Then ask yourself this. If we do re-elect Obama, who is next to bear the brunt of the Statist power grab. Maybe it is you.
