A pregnant woman and her pal rescued after getting lost hiking on a Maine mountain died just minutes later after accidentally driving into the ocean.

Amy Stiner (l.) was five months pregnant. Melissa Moyer, of Sunbury, Pa., was a mother of one and a teacher.

Pregnant Amy Stiner, 37, was hiking at Roque Bluff State Park with friend Melissa Moyer, 38, on Tuesday night when a heavy downpour stopped them in their tracks.

With the car rapidly going under, Stiner dialed 911 and spoke to deputies at Maine State Police barracks in Orono, but the phone went dead.

After calling for help, they were found by nearby landowner and off-duty firefighter Wayne Hansom, who dropped them off at Stiner’s 2001 blue Dodge minivan.

But when they left the parking area at 9 p.m., organic farmer Stiner turned right instead of left and, through a heavy fog, accidentally drove down a boat ramp and into the water.

“The end of the road becomes the boat landing, and they just weren’t familiar with it,” said Washington County Sheriff Donnie Smith.
