Survive The Apocalypse In Style: Home That Boasts A Luxury Bunker 26 Feet Underground With Fake Grass And Simulated Night And Day – Daily Mail

From the street, number 3970 Spencer St. near Flamingo Road looks like any other American home.

It’s what lies beneath that would pique your interest.

During the Cold War, there was a time when some paranoid (or maybe just careful) Americans decided to construct underground nuclear bunkers.

In a scene reminiscent of the 1999 film ‘Blast from the Past’ where a family lives in a fallout shelter for 35 years, a family home has just come on the market for $1.7 million dollars.

The only difference with this home is that it has a 15,200 sq ft basement underground.

The house was built in 1978 to withstand a nuclear blast by wealthy businessman, Girard ‘Jerry’ B. Henderson.

Although he made his money through Avon cosmetics and Gulfstream Aerospace Corp., in the sixties he tried another business – ‘Underground World Homes’.

He took his idea of living underground to the World’s Fair and tried to show people the benefits of living underground.

The area underground is essentially a time capsule from the 1970s.

Mr Henderson showcased his subterranean home in style with pink kitchen trim, pink toilets, green ‘grass’ carpets, hot tubs, fake trees and a painted backdrop depicting rolling hills and countryside.

There are even a host of activities for you to get up to whilst waiting for any (nuclear) dust to settle.

The garden includes a four-hole putting green, a swimming pool, two jacuzzis, a sauna, dance floor, bar, BBQ (disguised in a rock) and adjustable light settings for different times of day. The stars come out at night!

After Mr Henderson and his wife died in the 1980s, a relative took over the place. The most recent owner lost the home through foreclosure.

Buyers have been flocking to see the home. One potential owner from Hawaii thought the place could be turned into a tourist attraction.
