Yet another shovel of dirt on America

Yes dodgeball is “just” a game, but the move to ban it at schools is another victory for the Nanny State

The classic gym class game has been a rite of passage for years, but dodgeball may have met its match in the form of the Windham School board, which at a recent meeting voted 4-1 to end dodgeball and other so-called “human target” activities, games with names like bombardment and slaughter.

“It’s almost turning into a nanny state,” said school board member Dennis Senibaldi, the one school board member who voted against the ban. “What happens when they replace that game with something different that another group doesn’t want to play, do we eliminate that group of games?”

I think we need stupidity control

Good grief! HERE THEY GO AGAIN!!

ABC 2 – Two 6-year-old elementary school students were suspended from White Marsh Elementary School in Talbot County on Monday for using their fingers as imaginary guns while at recess. They were playing a game of cops and robbers on the playground.

One of the boy’s father, Army Staff Sergeant. Stephen Grafton, says the schools decision to suspend the boys crossed the line. Some parents on the Eastern Shore agree with him.

The Talbot County Board of Education released a statement on the suspension saying, “It is frustrating for school systems because a complete explanation of events cannot be provided due to confidentiality requirements under the federal educational rights and privacy act.”

Some believe gun play of any kind is not appropriate for school. They say in today’s world it’s hard to tell how far is too far.

Educators say parents can use this as a teaching point and talk about the importance of not shooting at one another.

Actually, parents could use this as a teaching point to get their kids out of public schools and away from morons like these “educators” who have no business being near kids!

More schools choosing to take serious steps to prevent future school shootings

Via Weasel Zippers

Via Daily Mail:

An Ohio school board has unanimously voted to place armed custodians on their K-12 campus in an effort to better protect their students from a future mass shooting.

Following Wednesday’s believed unprecedented 5-0 vote in the state, four male janitors were the first to volunteer to arm themselves with their own handguns on the rural Montpelier campus, the Toledo Blade reports.

The vote will permit only non-teaching employees to carry the firearms on the campus, so long as they complete a weapons training course.

Good. I deeply believe that this is the best way to both deter such attacks, and to end them quickly. No, nothing is going to be 100% effective, but protecting our kids in school IS the #1 priority. I also think it best that these decisions should be on the local level.

Nebraska students to learn about American principles, Leftists horrified

Of course, they will also be told that global warming, or climate change is a theory, which it is, and urged to explore it themselves, in other words, to think. That has the Left outraged! School is not for thinking, or encouraging kids to evaluate anything. I mean you teach kids to think and the next thing you know, they are doing crazy things. Like thinking before voting.

Students in Nebraska are getting new standards for social studies curriculum, after weeks of intense debate. The state Board of Education reached agreement on two items of controversy this week: whether to include “American exceptionalism” and how to teach about climate change, the Lincoln Journal Star reports.

The fight had been over whether to explicitly teach the idea of American exceptionalism, as one board member proposed, and whether to include information about climate change, which the current standards do not mention. The board approved the standards after making some changes:

The words “American exceptionalism” do not appear in the final draft, but the concept does. In the sixth- through eighth-grade U.S. history standards, one of the “indicators” — examples of what to teach — is the “unique nature of the creation and organization of the American Government, the United States as an exceptional nation based upon personal freedom, the inherent nature of citizens’ rights and democratic ideals.”

This is what the Left hates apparently examples of what to teach — is the “unique nature of the creation and organization of the American Government, the United States as an exceptional nation based upon personal freedom, the inherent nature of citizens’ rights and democratic ideals.”

In other words they are going to teach about the founding, the government, the, GASP, constitution, and that there is, brace yourself, liberty in America! Come on man! The Left is trying to turn out good little brain dead Marxists, and Nebraska schools might get in the way of that! Oh, but it gets worse for the Left.

Likewise, climate change appears in the sixth- through eighth-grade geography standards, but is presented as a theory, not as fact, asking students to evaluate “recent global climate change theories, and evidence that supports and refutes such theories.”

What? You cannot tell these kids that a theory is a theory! And instructing them to evaluate evidence on BOTH sides of the debate? OUTRAGEOUS! How dare Nebraska encourage open mindedness. I mean the Left has been trying to educate indoctrinate our kids for decades now. Stories like this scare them. Just peruse the comments at the link, the stupidity and hate will stun you

Newest mascot to be banned?

Cougars is now sexist!

One Utah school district believes a cougar mascot would be insensitive to women.

English: North Amerian Cougar

Image via Wikipedia

The Canyons School District overrode the students top choice of a cougar mascot for their high school that is to be completed in 2013.

Would-be Corner Canyon High School students chose the Cougars as their mascot — a name principal Mary Bailey said carries an ugly connotation that is disrespectful to women.

In popular culture, the cougar is a sexually aggressive middle-aged woman who attracts younger men.

The school board, which consists of six men and one woman, thought the Charger would be more appropriate, which was on the ballot but failed to appeal to students as the cougar had.

Good Grief! Where does the madness end? It ends when we either reject this nonsense, or it ends with our liberty completely destroyed!

Maybe these morons should be locked in a cage with a rabid cougar.

Ads on school buses? Why the Hell not?

Chris at Wyblog has some fun with a solid idea.

Your child’s yellow school bus will soon be a rolling billboard. NJ Governor Chris Christie has signed into law a measure granting cash-strapped school districts the right to sell advertising on their buses.

Half of all revenue generated will be used by to offset transportation costs, while the other 50 percent will go to services chosen by the Board of Education.

Districts will have the ability to sell advertising space on the exterior sides of school buses owned or leased by the district. All advertisements will be approved by the local Board of Education, and tobacco, alcohol and political advocacy ads are prohibited.

Really, what could go wrong?

Tobacco and alcohol are off limits, but what about Coke vs Pepsi? Viagra vs Cialis? (Nah, the moment probably isn’t right.) Chevy Volt? Or BMW?

I don’t suppose too many local school boards would be eager to approve an ad for Huntington Learning Centers! But that still leaves the door open for lots of possibilities.

The wheels on the bus go round and round thanks to Michelin because so much is riding on those tires!

Forgot your lunch? Papa John’s delivers!

Hmmm. Maybe they’d better run that one by Michelle Obama first.
