Disgruntled union workers put their fight against Cablevision over the fight against cancer at a Times Square protest last night.

About 50 members of the Communications Workers of America Local 1109 disrupted a benefit for cancer research at the Hard Rock Cafe, carrying signs and blaring music as attendees streamed in.

Cablevision CEO James Dolan, whose rock band performed at the event, told The Post that the workers’ actions are “despicable.”

“They think being disruptive for their personal gain is more important than beating pancreatic cancer,” he said. “Their values are twisted. I’m surprised at the depth of their lowness. Everyone who deals with them should take note. It’s shameful.”

The union, which is in drawn-out contract talks with Cablevision, labeled Dolan a “Grinch” for stalling negotiations with 280 company technicians and dispatchers in Brooklyn.

“He is a greedy person pretending to be philanthropist; he’s Scrooge!” barked Tim Dubnau, an organizer for Communications Workers of America Local 1109.

But event attendees said the union members picked the wrong time and place to air their grievances.

“I’m a pancreatic-cancer survivor, and it’s unfortunate that they have to protest an event like this,” said Scott Nelson, 59, who lives in Minnesota.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg turned the National Guard away from Brooklyn because they were carrying guns.

NewsBusters reported, via FOX Nation:

Mayor Bloomberg has snubbed Borough President Markowitz’s impassioned plea to bring the National Guard to Hurricane Sandy-scarred Brooklyn — arguing that approving the Beep’s request would be a waste of federal manpower and turn the borough into a police state.

“We don’t need it,” Mayor Bloomberg said on Wednesday during a press update on the city’s ongoing Hurricane Sandy cleanup. “The NYPD is the only people we want on the street with guns.”

Wait, the littlist Nanny Stater is concerned about a “police state”? That is rich, truly rich.

Cities with some of the most stringent gun restrictions, like DC, Chicago, and YES, Bloomberg’s Big Apple have extremely high crime rates. The Other McCain noted this earlier.

 Mayor Bloomberg’s “national campaign for stricter gun laws” notwithstanding, there were nearly 500 murders and more than 1,400 shooting incidents in New York City last year.

Wow! How is that tough stance on guns working for ya there Bloomberg? Funny how criminals just do not obey laws isn’t it?

According to police statistics, crime rates in New York didn’t change overall in 2011compared to 2012. Overall crime decreased by 0.8 percent through December 18 compared with the same period a year ago. There have been 102,445 felonies so far compared with 102,269 by the same time last year.

Breaking it down further:

• Murders went down this year. There were 490 homicides in New York through Dec. 18 compared with the 519 killings by last Dec. 19. That’s a 5.9 percent decrease. Borough by borough, Brooklyn’s murders are down, Bronx’s are on the rise, and Manhattan’s are about the same.
• Slightly up this year: rapes, robberies, and felony assaults. Slightly down: burglaries.
• Shootings are also slightly up this year, with a 2.8 percent increase. There were 1,465 shooting incidents in NYC this year and 1,425 for this period last year.

Of course, we could also point to nations like Great Britain, Australia, or Japan, with very very tough gun laws and see that their crime rates have jumped up SINCE the bans. Or  we could look at the states with concealed carry laws. Those states have not had increases in violent crime as the gun grabbers predicted. In fact, violent crime drops in those states. But all of that matters not to Nanny Staters like Bloomberg. The real thing they love about gun control, is, the control.

The owner of a discount store in Brooklyn says the city is holding him up for $30,000 in fines he can’t afford — all because he stocked six toy sheriff sets that included plastic guns.

And now the .44-caliber fines for the orange-tipped, obvious fakes are forcing him to close for good.

“It doesn’t make any sense,” said Khaled Mohamed, 23, manager of 99¢ Target in Flatlands, which has been ordered to pay a staggering $5,000 fine for each gun offered for sale — the maximum under the law.

The store “cannot pay that fine at all,” said Mohamed, arguing that the punishment imposed on the Utica Avenue odds-and-ends shop is way out of proportion to the violation.

Ah yes, ACORN, the radical Leftist group that was so involved with Obama’s 2008 campaign, until it was forced to “disband”. Is it any surprise that these Neo-Marxists are firmly involved with the OWS? Just take a look at what Jim Hoft unearthed

Barack Obama was not honest about his relationship with ACORN during the 2008 election.

In 2009 Congress voted to defund ACORN and its affiliates. But that didn’t stop the Obama Administration from giving $560,000 to ACORN affiliates in 2010.

So it really comes as no surprise that ACORN is working behind the scenes in the Obama-endorsed Occupy movement.
FOX News reported:

The former New York office for ACORN, the disbanded community activist group, is playing a key role in the self-proclaimed “leaderless” Occupy Wall Street movement, organizing “guerrilla” protest events and hiring door-to-door canvassers to collect money under the banner of various causes while spending it on protest-related activities, sources tell FoxNews.com.

The former director of New York ACORN, Jon Kest, and his top aides are now busy working at protest events for New York Communities for Change (NYCC). That organization was created in late 2009 when some ACORN offices disbanded and reorganized under new names after undercover video exposes prompted Congress to cut off federal funds.

NYCC’s connection to ACORN isn’t a tenuous one: It works from the former ACORN offices in Brooklyn, uses old ACORN office stationery, employs much of the old ACORN staff and, according to several sources, engages in some of the old organization’s controversial techniques to raise money, interest and awareness for the protests.

Sources said NYCC has hired about 100 former ACORN-affiliated staff members from other cities – paying some of them $100 a day – to attend and support Occupy Wall Street. Dozens of New York homeless people recruited from shelters are also being paid to support the protests, at the rate of $10 an hour, the sources said.

How is that for transparency? This nation, or at least millions of us, were duped by a message of Hope and Change. A message delivered by a con man, and supported by a media that REFUSED to do any digging into the radicalism that oozes from Obama’s past, and apparently, his present as well, and seemingly everyone one of his associations .

Yesterday Joel Pollack at Big Government reported on how Barack Obama led #OccupyChicago style protests in Chicago in 1988.
From Stanley Kurtz’s essential Radical-in-Chief: Barack Obama and the Untold Story of American Socialism, pp. 117-8:

Obama personally helped plan one of UNO’s most confrontational actions of the eighties [in 1988]: a break-in meant to intimidate a coalition of local business and neighborhood leaders into dropping a landfill expansion deal.

We know of Obama’s involvement in this demonstration only because his supporters in 2008 felt it necessary to rebut charges that, contrary to his claims of inter-racial healing, he had organized exclusively with blacks. It wasn’t an isolated incident.
In his early years as a community organizer, Barack Obama sued banks and lenders to ease lending practices.
He also led protests at banks.

America has paid a heavy price for falling for a message promising transparency that was only transparent in that it was obviously completely false. At least it was obvious for anyone paying attention.

Of course, too many of  us refuse to pay attention. We fall for a message that tells us what we want to hear. This is what happens when a large part of the electorate does not know how to think, and does not know the history of this nation. I can only pray that our eyes are open next November. The Communist thugocracy has done enough damage to our Republic!

Then they came for your Halloween decorations

Chris offers up the latest intrusion on basic liberty by the Nanny Statists.

A Brooklyn homeowner hung a scarecrow by a rope from a tree in his yard. A local councilman decided it was “racist,” mainly because it reminded him of “lynching.” Maybe it was, maybe it wasn’t — several neighbors said the homeowner really gets into Halloween and meant no harm.

But in Brooklyn there is a Right To Not Be Offended.

“It’s unacceptable,” said Charles Barron (D-Brooklyn). “You ain’t speaking for this whole community because some people on this block came by and said it was offensive. They came and said it was offensive. It’s not a cool decoration.”

Police settled the dispute by removing the scarecrow figure from the tree.

Got that? It’s “offensive” so NYPD confiscated it. From private property. Without Due Process.

That my friends is the very definition of fascism.

Chris is right. Sure some folks might say, “come on, they are just decorations, no one’s rights are being violated”  but think of the principles at stake here. Those principles are highlighted in red above.

Another important point is that Charles Barron is a vile racist himself, just Goggle him, see what you find. It is always the Leftists like Barron who are trampling basic liberties for their own gain.

Imagine if every place in America fit Sarah Brady’s utopian ideal

Yes, imagine, if you will if Sarah Brady and her gun grabbing ilk had their way. Imagine a nation where we were all disarmed for the “common good”. Imagine if every city had STRICT gun control, and a mayor who detests the basic human right to defend yourself. Imagine if we were all fated to live HERE!

In one of the bloodiest weekends in recent city history, 31 people were brutally shot in roughly 48 hours this weekend — including three kids at a house party-turned-shooting gallery in The Bronx.

25 people had been shot as of Sunday night, but by early Monday morning, six more people were shot in three separate incidents in Brooklyn.

Four people were shot at 12:45 a.m. at what appeared to be a barbecue on East 54th Street. One of the victims, 18-year-old Tyrief Gary, has died. The other three are in stable condition.

Ah yes, because strict gun laws stop violence, so the gun grabbers tell us………….

Calling the chilling violence “just unconscionable,” Mayor Bloomberg demanded that the feds step up their efforts to get illegal weapons off the streets.

“We just cannot continue to have these guns in the hands of kids who don’t understand the value of human life,” he said.
