Another Democrat Convicted Of Voter Fraud

Former Bolivar, Tennessee City Council Member Convicted – Knownews

.
Prosecutors say former Bolivar City Council member Brenda Woods has been convicted of procuring illegal voters in municipal elections.

Shelby County District Attorney Amy Weirich says in a news release that Woods was found guilty Tuesday in a McNairy County court.

Witnesses said Woods took them to the polls to vote for her in early elections for mayor and city council in May 2009. They said they told Woods about their felony convictions, but she assured them they could still vote.

An investigation showed the three voters had cast ballots illegally because their voting rights had not been restored.

Woods was convicted on the charges in 2010 but was awarded a new trial on appeal two years later. She faces up to six years in prison at sentencing April 11,

Commie Mayor De Blasio Appoints Commie Occupy Wall Street Activist As City Council Speaker

Bill De Blasio Appoints Occupy Wall Street Activist As City Council Speaker – Weasel Zippers

.

.
Naturally.

Via NRO:

In one of his first initiatives as mayor of New York City, Bill de Blasio strong-armed his ideological ally Melissa Mark-Viverito into the office of city-council speaker. In that role, she may be the second most powerful official in the city: Proposed legislation will pass through her office and she will set the agenda of the city council.

And her election has some observers worried. Council speakers traditionally represent the independent voice of the legislature, and they can, when necessary, act as a check on the mayor’s power. But, in many ways, Mark-Viverito – propelled into the office in large measure by de Blasio’s lobbying – is a progressive in the same mold as the new mayor. […]

Councilwoman Mark-Viverito – who serves the city’s eighth district, covering northeastern Manhattan and some of the South Bronx – has been described by some colleagues as too liberal and too abrasive. She helped found and now co-chairs the Progressive Caucus of the city council – the farthest-left group in the legislature – and, with the Progressive Caucus, has advocated for the expansion of prevailing-wage requirements, the raising of the minimum wage, and higher taxes on the wealthy.

She was also an active participant in the Occupy Wall Street movement, which she said “inspired” her. “We are the 99 percent,” she said at an Occupy rally in November 2011. “We represent the 99 percent. We are representing people that have been impacted by the corporate greed, by the 1 percent.”

Mark-Viverito’s strong ties with Occupy extended beyond speaking at its rallies; she was once arrested for blocking a street during an Occupy protest against income inequality. “I was more than happy to participate in this action,” she said of her arrest. “Government needs to respond to the immediate crisis that we have, which is an economic crisis and inequality crisis in terms of how government is structured.”

Nanny Bloomberg now wants to ban E-cigarettes too

What a control freak.

New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s crusade to rid the City of all things unhealthy has taken aim at various fattening foods and harmful products like cigarettes and trans fats. He even once tried – and failed – to ban large containers of soda within New York’s five boroughs.

But Bloomberg’s now gone a step further – not only does hizzonor not want you to smoke cigarettes, he doesn’t want you smoke fake cigarettes, either.

Recently leaked drafts of three tobacco-related bills that are expected to be introduced into the City Council indicate that Bloomberg’s planning to regulate e-cigs into extinction.

Basically, I would call Bloomberg a fanatic. Some people should never be in a position of power, he is one.

You just cannot make this stuff up. Democratic Mayor sexual harasser to speak at benefit for victims of sexual abuse

Yep, you read  it right, of course, as RS McCain points out, the mayor’s heart is in the right place, and his hands? Well, let’s just say the ladies better watch out for Mr. Happy Hands, and his tongue too

I’d call this assault.

A city councilwoman and two lawyers, formerly allies of the mayor, held a press conference to air the charges lodged against Mayor Filner by a variety of women.

Former ally Briggs wrote that he must now turn on Filner, because his behavior is no mere slip-up or minor transgression, but consists of “hard core” violations.

In the Mayor’s office, there was something known as the “Filner headlock” where the Mayor puts his arm around a woman’s shoulder, pulls her in tight, gets in close to their face, asks about husband/boyfriend, says things like “you know you love me, lets go up to my office, no one will know.”Donna Frye described other specifics about a victim: “He grabbed her, kissed her, jamming his tongue down her throat.” Frye went on to describe another encounter: “The Mayor quickly had his hand down the inside of her bra.”

“I am the Mayor you can’t kick me out of any office” one employee of Filner allegedly said after she kicked him out of her office for his unwanted advances.

The allies-turned-accusers are trying to get the lecherous old monster to step down without having the women to come forward and make the allegations themselves. Of course, that won’t happen; he’s a Democrat, and a union stooge to boot. So we’re talking about the sort of retrograde, cynical, old-time machine politics mentality here where everything is fair game for your tribe that we usually don’t see nowadays, at least not outside the national government.

Double standards my friends double standards. Feminists rail against Republicans for being pro-life, but look the other way when a Democrat assaults women and treats them like pieces of meat. As I have noted before, this is how Liberals define morality. If you support Liberal ideals, you are moral, and excused from the way you behave, no matter how nasty that may be. If you oppose Liberal ideals on the other hand, you are immoral, period!

Leftist Imbeciles On D.C. City Council Propose $12.50-An-Hour Minimum Wage; Wal-Mart Threatens To Pull Out

D.C. City Council Proposes Super-Minimum “Living Wage” Of $12.50 An Hour; Wal-Mart Threatens To Pull Out – Global Economic Analysis

D.C. is on the verge of passing a “Living Wage” law mandating $12.50 an hour wages, but only for retailers with corporate sales of $1 billion or more. The response from the world’s largest retailer is hardly unexpected.

.

The Washington Post reports Wal-Mart says it will pull out of D.C. plans should city mandate ‘living wage’.

The world’s largest retailer delivered an ultimatum to District lawmakers Tuesday, telling them less than 24 hours before a decisive vote that at least three planned Wal-Marts will not open in the city if a super-minimum-wage proposal becomes law.

The company’s hardball tactics come out of a well-worn playbook that involves successfully using Wal-Mart’s leverage in the form of jobs and low-priced goods to fend off legislation and regulation that could cut into its profits and set precedent in other potential markets. In the Wilson Building, elected officials have found their reliable liberal, pro-union political sentiments in conflict with their desire to bring amenities to underserved neighborhoods.

Mayor Vincent C. Gray (D) called Wal-Mart’s move “immensely discouraging,” indicating that he may consider vetoing the bill while pondering whether to seek reelection.

Alex Barron, a regional general manager for Wal-Mart U.S., wrote in a Washington Post op-ed piece that the proposed wage requirement “would clearly inject unforeseen costs into the equation that will create an uneven playing field and challenge the fiscal health of our planned D.C. stores.”

As a result, Barron said, the company “will not pursue” stores at three locations where construction has yet to begin – two in Ward 7 and one in Ward 5. He added that the legislation, if passed, will also jeopardize the three stores underway, pending a review of the “financial and legal implications.”

The bill, known as the Large Retailer Accountability Act, passed the council on an initial 8 to 5 vote last month. The council would need nine votes to override a potential veto from Gray, who lobbied Wal-Mart to open a store at the Skyland Town Center site, near his Hillcrest home.

The Problem With “Living Wage” Laws

In the chicken-and-egg game of “living wages”, few have figured out it is government policies, not salaries that are the problem.

Here are some easy to understand examples.

Hundreds of “affordable home” programs drove home prices higher until home prices eventually collapsed (at which time government bodies did everything they could to prop up prices). Conclusion: Government bureaucrats did not really want affordable homes, they just wanted to be on record as being in favor of the idea (while handing out programs in return for votes and campaign donations)

Student loan programs (and of course education-related public unions) tell a similar story about out-of-control education costs.

Those wishing that government would do something about health care costs need to consider that government is the primary reason health care costs are absurd.

The Real Problem

The real problem is not low salaries but rather how far money goes. Blame the Fed and government policies for that problem, not Wal-Mart.

Should the law pass, it will of course artificially make small mom-and-pop retail stores more competitive, but for whose benefit?

The net effect will be higher prices for everyone, a net loss of jobs, subsidization of weak uncompetitive companies, and a big round of cheers from union sympathizers who will benefit at the expense of everyone else (with the real problem not remotely addressed).

To top it off, living wage laws (coupled with preposterously low interest rates from the Fed) provide further incentives for companies to look at software and hardware solutions to get rid of marginal workers.

Should this inane law pass, it will backfire immediately.

Voters Boot Entire Hackensack City Council Over Attempted Eminent Domain Land Grab

Attempted Land Grab Ends With Voters Booting Entire City Council – Reason

Government officials like to use eminent domain for the convenience of their preferred policies and/or the enrichment of themselves and their buddies. Usually, they get away with it, because the folks on the receiving end are too few and powerless to hold their tormentors to account. In Hackensack, New Jersey, however, the officials who targeted Michael Monaghan’s property for seizure as part of an “area in need of redevelopment,” even while denying him the right to develop it himself, pushed too many people around, too often. Last month, voters booted out the entire city council.

.

From the Institute for Justice:

Michael Monaghan has wanted to develop his property on Main Street in Hackensack, New Jersey, just a few miles away from Manhattan. Yet the city twice denied two applications for banks to build on his land.

Instead, Hackensack’s Planning Board designated Michael’s and another owner’s land as an “area in need of redevelopment,” authorizing the use of eminent domain to condemn and seize the properties. “I’ve stood up and tried to protect my property for the last eight years,” he said in an interview with a local paper.

Adding insult to injury, this designation was completely unwarranted. According to Michael’s attorney, Peter Dickson, the board “did not make the Constitutional finding of blighted, and did not have any evidence that would support such a finding.”

Last month, the Appellate Division of the state Superior Court agreed, ruling the Planning Board didn’t properly prove that those properties were blighted and “in need of redevelopment.” The city council intended to appeal the appellate court’s decision.

But fortunately for property owners, Hackensack’s entire city council was booted out of office. The grassroots group Citizens for Change won every single seat on the city council, despite being outraised 2:1. Their slate of candidates successfully ran on a platform against costly litigation, nepotism, and corruption. (For example, Hackensack’s police chief was recently convicted for official misconduct and insurance fraud.) Citizens for Change also sharply criticized Hackensack’s redevelopment projects, calling them “sweetheart deals and special privileges for politically connected property owners and developers.”

A happy outcome like this is no surefire guarantee that eminent domain won’t be abused in the future. But it is a sign that, even in New Jersey, government officials have to keep the bullying below the public’s pain threshold.

Just another reason you could not pay me enough to live in the People’s Republic of Bloombergistan

AKA New York City. AKA Nanny State USA

They haven’t built a wall yet. You can still get out of New York without having to swim across a river under machine gun fire. What are you waiting for, New Yorkers? If you don’t escape while you can, you will just get ever more of this:

Jack Pawlowski was led out of his Queens home in handcuffs Wednesday, with his stunned wife and three young kids looking on. He said nothing as detectives put him into a squad car.

His crime: He took two of his kids around the corner to Ditmars Park. There he brazenly showed them how to shoot pellets at a tree with a toy gun. This was enough to set concerned citizens on a righteous crusade to see to his punishment.

“I don’t tend to take things lying down, so I went past the parents, and so I walked straight over and I confronted him,” said Leni Calas. “I mean, he’s brandishing a firearm and I don’t care if that firearm is plastic. That’s unacceptable.”

Calas called police, who arrived after Pawlowski left. She also called City Councilman Peter Vallone Jr. (D-22nd) and posted [a photo of Pawlowski] on her “queensmamas” website.

That led to a tip that led investigators straight to Pawlowski’s door.

Doubleplus good, Comrade Calas! Big Brother should double her chocolate ration. As for Pawlowski, he will be made an example of.

“This is really a way to educate people,” Vallone said. “You cannot run around with a realistic looking gun. It’s against the law, and you could get arrested and actually go to jail.” …

[Pawlowski] remained in custody Wednesday evening, on charges of reckless endangerment, endangering the welfare of a minor, resisting arrest, and possession of an illegal BB gun.

And the idiot that got her panties in a wad over a father playing with his kids? Just wait until she does something The State deems unfit, and a “concerned citizen” Brownshirt turns her in, then she will understand how dangerous allowing the State such power really is.
