That these nimrods spout such nonsense is bad. That a significant number of Americans believe them is far worse

Rep. Donna Edwards (D-Md.) said that if the sequester goes into effect, women who are victims of domestic violence will be “forced to stay in their homes with their abuser” at the “hands of the GOP.”

The automatic across-the-board cuts, known as the sequester, are set to take effect on Friday – a 1.2% reduction in increased federal spending in 2013, or about $44 billion out of $3.6 trillion.

“The harm is real,” Edwards said.  “230,000 victims will be calling crisis hotlines and those calls will go unanswered.  230,000 calls to crisis hotlines around the country.”

“So can you imagine that in the middle of the night a woman is being battered, she has her two children, she wants to get to safety, she places a phone call to a hotline and that line goes unanswered,” she said.  “That’s what sequestration means to victims of domestic violence.”

Of course, the sequestration is a reduction, a 1% reduction in spending INCREASES, that is not really a cut in spending at all. The Democrats are trying to scare all of us into panic mode. And, when the dire calamities they predict do not happen? It will not matter, the Democrats will just go on saying they DID happen because of those evil Republicans.

‘Blade Runner’ Oscar Pistorius charged with murder

Olympic and Paralympic star Oscar Pistorius was charged with murder Thursday after his girlfriend was shot dead at his South African home.

South African Police spokeswoman Denise Beukes said that Pistorius, 26, and the victim were the only people present when the shooting took place. The woman had been shot at least twice, police said.

Pistorius will appear for a court hearing on Friday at 9am local time, the South African prosecutor’s office confirmed.

Numerous media outlets reported that the sprinter — who is nicknamed “Blade Runner” because he races wearing carbon fiber prosthetic blades – may have mistaken the woman for an intruder. 

The slain woman was a model who had appeared in several men’s magazines

Beukes would not confirm the victim’s identity, but said investigators were “very surprised” to hear media reports that the shooting was possibly a case of mistaken identity. 

A publicist for Reeva Steenkamp, a model whom Pistorius was dating, confirmed to NBC’s TODAY that her client was dead. She described the incident as a “huge loss for everyone and too shocking for words.”Was this an accident? Or was it something else? There had been some accusations of domestic abuse

Beukes said there had been reports about previous problems at Pistorius’ home that were “allegations of a domestic nature.” When a reporter asked if she meant domestic violence, she nodded and said yes.

“There are witnesses and we have interviewed them,” she added. “We’re talking about neighbors and people who heard things earlier in the evening and when the shooting took place.”

What a tragedy.

Who is the son of Jim Moran, a Democratic Congressman from Virginia. Patrick has pleaded guilty to assaulting his girlfriend

Patrick B. Moran, 23, of Arlington County pleaded guilty to one count of simple assault, a misdemeanor. A D.C. Superior Court judge suspended a 90-day jail term and sentenced him to one year’s probation. Moran will also have to complete domestic-violence counseling and 50 hours of community service.

Domestic-violence counseling? How about we lock Patrick in  a cage with a Navy Seal of Green Beret? I think that is fitting for a scumbag that does this…

According to a police account of the Dec. 1 incident contained in court documents, an officer saw Moran grab a woman by the back of her head and slam it into a trash can about 1:23 a.m. in front of the Getaway nightclub in Columbia Heights.

Of course, the good Congressman is trying to cover for his son

A e-mailed statement from Kelly Hofmann, Moran’s girlfriend, that was circulated by his father’s office after the plea had been entered called the incident one that “has been blown out of proportion” and said she was hurt when one of her high heels gave out and she fell into a trash can.

Another statement released by a spokesman for the congressman (D-Va.) also called the incident an “accident.”

Battered women often lie, or cover for their abuser, but, this time police officers witnessed that assault. Maybe she is even being pressured to do so now? Frankly, the police report does not back up her story

Patrick Moran was initially charged with felony assault. Hofmann was found bleeding “heavily” from her nose, according to court records, and her nose and right eye were “extremely” swollen.

Of course, we should also consider Patrick Moran’s recent disgarce

Moran resigned from his post as field director for his father’s reelection campaign in October after a conservative activist released an undercover video of Moran discussing potential ways to commit voter fraud. Arlington police and Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli II said they would investigate the incident, in which Moran was captured in the video suggesting that someone could use forged utility bills as proof of voter eligibility.
