I have long thought that one of the biggest lies Democrats tell, repeatedly, is that they care about the poor, and are the party of working Americans. They may use such rhetoric to get votes, but, in fact, the Democrats tax hikes and regulations hurt the poor because any cost to businesses are naturally passed down to the line to those least able to pay higher prices for food, gas, clothes. Doug Ross has a story today that illustrates how the Left’s green energy policies are hitting the poor hardest

Last week, Examiner columnist and Manhattan Institute fellow Diana Furchtgott-Roth, author of the new book “Regulating to Disaster: How Green Jobs Policies Are Damaging America’s Economy,” explained that:

Most people think green is good but pay little attention to associated increases in costs. In 2015, it will cost between $49 and $79 to generate one megawatt hour of electricity from natural gas. A megawatt hour from onshore wind will cost between $75 and $138, and from solar photovoltaic will cost between $242 and $455.

As her book demonstrates in this chart, rising costs of energy hit lower-income Americans the hardest, because they spend a higher proportion of their incomes on energy.

The fact is that the policies of the Left destroy wealth, and ambition, and productivity, and most chances for climbing out of poverty. These policies only serve to entrench the poor where they are on the socioeconomic ladder. Like every bastard ideology born out of Marxism, Liberalism promises equality, but delivers only an equality of misery. Instead of being a way up, Liberal policies are a massive roadblock to anyone seeking to better their plight.

But, G.E. a BIG Obama supporter wants to build in Alabama, another right-to-work state, and the NLRB is silent! HMMMMMMMMMM, Doug Ross smells something, fishy You know, maybe it is like Obama said, it is just math

Do the math:

1. Alabama is a wonderfully free “right-to-work” state, which simply means it prevents unions from extracting dues from workers who do not wish to join.

2. General Electric’s CEO Jeff Immelt is the poster-boy for crony capitalism, having backed Obama’s rush to socialized medicine and green energy to benefit various of its business units.

3. It turns out that GE’s Aviation division is breaking ground on a new factory in Alabama. And, unlike Boeing, which tried to build a factory in a right-to-work-state, the National Labor Relations Board hasn’t uttered a peep. But I’m sure that’s just a coincidence.

Darn those coincidences! Doug Ross also notes the difference in right-to-work states versus states that force workers to pay union ransoms, I mean dues. So much for unions being pro-workers

Everything they said about this bill was a lie. And that includes the word “the”, “patient” and “protection”. Worse still: the bill hasn’t truly kicked in yet.

Excerpt: “[The company CFO] wants to know why [the] health care provider, GHI, is asking state regulators for permission to hike insurance premiums by 50% to 74%. …The only solution he sees to rising rates is maintaining his current staff of 10 employees, instead of expanding—which does nothing to reduce the city’s 9.4% unemployment rate.”

And those headlines are, my friends ONLY the tip of the Obama Iceberg! Oh, but don’t worry folks, if you really get sick, the government will help, plan your death that is!

The White House is pushing back against a front-page New York Times story out Sunday that suggests end-of-life planning policies — or “death panels” as termed by critics — have been resurrected through Obama administration rule-making.

The new Medicare rule that takes effect on Jan. 1 will allow payment for doctors to provide counseling to help beneficiaries deal with end-of-life planning assistance. The “voluntary advance care planning” is included in a Medicare regulation issued Dec. 3 that covers annual checkups, known as wellness visits.

But the White House said Sunday the end-of-life planning provisions aren’t new to health care services provided by the government.

“The Times story is wrong. This benefit was signed into law under President Bush. The only thing new here is a regulation allowing the discussions –authorized in 2003 by the prescription drug benefit — to happen in the context of the new annual wellness visit created by the Affordable Care Act,” said White House spokesman Reid Cherlin.

When similar wording to the rule appeared in the health care bill debated earlier this year, House Minority Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio, complained loudly that the provision would “start us down a treacherous path toward government-encouraged euthanasia.”

Tragic idiocy, PC, and the TSA!

Great post at Doug Ross! There is a lot to read there, and please go do so, but this bit of common sense struck me. Why can’t our “leaders” think this clearly?

Here’s a really tough question: what prevents the TSA from simply pre-screening the vast majority of American airline passengers who represent no threat whatsoever?

• The family of four traveling to Orlando for their sixth vacation in six years?
• The frequent flier who has 100 segments piled up over the last 18 months?
• The DOD contractor with a Top Secret security clearance?
• The grandparents who fly to Florida each fall and back to Michigan every spring?
• The 18 cheerleaders flying to San Antonio for a competition?

The list goes on and on. These are the same big government addicts who want to control your physical well-being and ration health care using a vast database of electronic health records and a panel of advisers who recommend treatments.

Yet they can’t figure out that Joe Fubar is a cleared defense contractor working on the F-22 Raptor. Or that Mrs. Beasley is headed to Phoenix for the 12th year in a row to visit her best friend.

So they end up giving each air traveler the colonoscopy they will routinely deny to seniors because of the “Complete Lives” formula. These Democrats are a freaking joke. A sad joke, to be sure, but a joke all the same.

How true that is. How sad that bureaucrats always seem so inept at pretty much everything they attempt to do.
