More crushing injustice on campus, this time at the UCLA Graduate School of Education & Information Studies:
In a letter sent to colleagues in the department after the sit-in, [Professor] Rust said students in the demonstration described grammar and spelling corrections he made on their dissertation proposals as a form of “micro-aggression.” “I have attempted to be rather thorough on the papers and am particularly concerned that they do a good job with their bibliographies and citations, and these students apparently don’t feel that is appropriate,” Rust said in the letter.
You see, by highlighting spelling and punctuation errors, the professor is contributing to an “unsafe climate for students of colour.” For those of you interested in the policing of tiny tragedies, “micro-aggressions” are defined by one official report as,
Subtle verbal and nonverbal insults directed toward non-whites, often done automatically and unconsciously. They are layered insults based on one’s race, gender, class, sexuality, language, immigration status, phenotype, accent, or surname
The victim culture runs very deep it seems, and that is exactly how the Left likes it! Their mission? Keep those minorities bitter, and perpetually poorly educated!

When it comes to the legal question of whether the East Baton Rouge Parish school district had the right to publish the names of teachers who were recently rated “highly effective” under the state’s new evaluation system, our guess is as good as yours.
But the real issue is why the East Baton Rouge Federation of Teachers is protesting the move in the first place.
It’s because teachers unions still want to the public to believe that all teachers are equally effective and should be compensated that way.
It’s a ridiculous argument that the union is pushing to protect its members who aren’t making the grade. Teachers unions have a socialistic approach to compensation – they believe everyone should be on the same negotiated pay scale, regardless of their value to the school district or its students.
We suspect taxpayers would disagree.
The school district recently upset the union by purchasing a full-page ad in local newspaper, recognizing those teachers who were rated highly effective after the first year of the state’s new teacher evaluation system, according to TheAdvocate.com.
The ad purchase was simply the district’s effort to publicly reward its best teachers, and provide an incentive for others to improve.
But the union is protesting, claiming the ad violated state law.
There was a time when unions were needed, but face it, they are nothing but cesspools of corruption now.
In a scathing speech on Wednesday, the president of the Chicago Teachers Union charged that racism and “rich white people” are to blame for the immense financial crisis facing the Chicago Public Schools.
In her remarks to an audience at the upscale City Club of Chicago, union boss Karen Lewis strongly criticized Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel. She also urged the city schools to follow the strategic blueprint of the Chicago Cubs baseball team.
“Members of the status quo — the people who are running the schools and advising the mayor on how to best run our district — know what good education looks like because they have secured it for their own children in well-resourced public and private institutions,” the Dartmouth graduate charged.
Of course greedy teachers unions that care little or nothing about educating kids could never be a problem right? And power mad union thugs like Lewis are never to blame either. NO, all that is needed is higher taxation
“When will there be an honest conversation about the poverty, racism and inequality that hinders the delivery of a quality education product in our school system?” Lewis also asked in the speech. “When will we address the fact that rich, white people think they know what’s in the best interest of children of African Americans and Latinos—no matter what the parent’s income or education level.”
The union leader then questioned the motives of “venture capitalists” who have expressed a desire to improve the quality of education for poor and minority students.
“There is something about these folks who love the kids but hate the parents,” Lewis inveighed. “There’s something about these folks who use little black and brown children as stage props at one press conference while announcing they want to fire, layoff or lock up their parents at another press conference.”
Lewis called for “an end to corporate subsidies and loopholes.” She demanded “progressive taxation” to close the $1 billion budget deficit currently facing the Second City and its public schools
Lewis is a Communist, and is all about one thing, $$$$$$$$$$$$$
(CNSNews.com) – Children who don’t get a pre-kindergarten education, ideally from birth to age 5, might fall behind and “may as well drop out” by third grade, Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius said on Wednesday at an event to garner support for President Barack Obama’s $75-billion proposal to increase pre-school enrollment across the country.
Sebelius said investing in pre-school education would bring “prosperity to all our people.”
“If we want to be a competitive country, if we want to make sure that we can achieve prosperity for all of our people, we have to figure out a way to have productive citizens throughout our population,” Sebelius said at the event, marking the one-year anniversary of an Educare school in the District of Columbia that serves children 6 weeks old to 5 years.
Really? We have long been the MOST prosperous nation, without universal pre-K education, yet Sebelius expects us to believe more government education of our kids is the only way we can make it as a nation? This is about one thing, and that is that leftists like Sebelius want to place the government in charge of turning kids into good little Socialists. That is also why they want to create a “right” to go to college. Think about this, they basically want to take a child at six weeks and keep indoctrinating them into their early 20’s. And to those who will say that no one is talking about making such pre-K mandatory, I have two words, NOT YET! But, just wait for that to come soon enough. The Left’s thirst for unchecked power knows no bounds.
Why is the Left winning? Because not only do winners write the history, but those who write the textbooks win too
We often focus on the ideological biases of the university, where the more lunatic examples of political correctness get the most attention. But in education as in economics, there is a trickle-down effect. The grandees at the elite universities train the PhD’s who go on to second and third tier institutions, where they in turn train the students who get high school and grade school teaching credentials. They also write most of the textbooks that end up in K-12 classrooms. Thus the progressive ideology metastasizes throughout the educational system, determining the curriculum, the textbooks, and the point of view of the teachers. At that level the ideas may be garbled, half-baked, incoherent, and a collection of clichés and slogans. But they are still toxic and effective at transmitting a world-view to impressionable minds.
Please go read the whole thing, because this is exactly right: When I graduated from a state university 30 years ago, the curriculum was not corrupted with “critical theory,” “post-modernism” and other such fashionable nonsense. Our professors were perhaps, on average, a bit more liberal than our parents, but none of our professors were ranting Marxists or other such fringe ideologues.
Go read it all, and pass it around. I have long since concluded that Liberals push for a “right to go to college” and now for universal preschool so that they might better indoctrinate our kids. They sooner they can get their propaganda into our kids minds, and the longer they can pump that propaganda into their minds, the more dominant Liberalism will become.
I noted a few days ago that “universal pre-school” was part of Obama’s budget. Well others are taking note, and now we are getting to see a bit more of what is behind that curtain. 1389 Blog has the details
(CNSNews.com) – In the message he issued along with his budget proposal on Wednesday morning, President Barack Obama said he wants to see 4-year-old children in the United States enrolled in public schools.
Obama said America needs to start enrolling 4-year-olds to make sure the children are “better prepared for the demands of the global economy” and to help parents save on “child-care costs.”
After saying the United States needs to “equip our citizens with the skills and training” to fill jobs in manufacturing, energy and infrastructure, Obama said, “And that has to start at the earliest possible age.”
Too few American 4-year-olds are enrolled in school, the president argued.
“But today, fewer than 3 in 10 4-year-olds are enrolled in a high-quality preschool program, and the high cost of private preschool puts too much of a financial burden on middle class families,” he said.
“The Budget therefore includes a proposal that ensures 4-year-olds across the country have access to high-quality preschool education through a landmark new initiative in partnership with the States,” Obama said. “And it increases the availability of early learning for our youngest children to help their growth and development during the formative early years of life.
“Providing a year of free, public preschool education for 4-year-old children is an important investment in our future,” said Obama. “It will give all our kids the best start in life, helping them perform better in elementary school and ultimately helping them, and the country, be better prepared for the demands of the global economy.:
The goal, I fear, is not to better educate our young ones. I would argue it is to better indoctrinate them to be good little Leftists. 1389 agrees
The purpose of this is to remove kids from the healthy environment of family, church, and neighborhood, and put them into a building where they will be warehoused, regimented, and indoctrinated by overpaid, unionized government employees. We can’t afford any more of that nonsense.
