Do Conservative Bloggers have to think of EVERYTHING?

Doug Powers, Austin’s brother, notes that the pro-gun rights arguments need to change to match the emotionalism in the anti-gun rights side. And he is right.

The Senate Judiciary Committee has been having hearings on gun control. On the pro gun control side, Gabby Giffords, victim of a crazed gunman, said “too many children are dying.” At a hearing in Connecticut, the father of a child murdered at Sandy Hook Elementary gave similar testimony (and gave some in the blinded-by-bias media a chance to show off their mad video editing skillz).

And on the pro Second Amendment side we most often hear testimony from Wayne LaPierre, somebody else from the NRA, or lawyers arguing on behalf of the Second Amendment. They make arguments on constitutional grounds and even speak about people whose lives are saved because they had guns — but where arethose people? Ask them to come forward at hearings and press conferences.

Let’s face it, the left usually kicks the right’s ass when it comes to emotional arguments that are designed to tug at the heart so aggressively that onlookers are too distracted to use their heads to think through what’s actually being presented to them (and that’s not necessarily a bad thing as we pride ourselves on being on the side of reason). However, emotional arguments can be constructed without selling out on the logic and common sense end of things, and that’s where the right needs to do a better job.

There certainly are no shortages of children (and adults) whose lives have been saved because of gun ownership. Almost every day there’s a story. Here’s one from just the day before yesterday:

A home invasion suspect was arrested at a hospital after a mother shot him during the crime at a Montgomery County home, deputies said Wednesday.

Erin, who asked to be identified only by her first name, told Local 2 she was putting her 6-year-old son to bed when she heard a loud noise coming from her bedroom on Mink Lake Drive Friday night.

“I threw the cover over my son and I took off running, screaming to the living room to let my dogs out,” she said.

Erin said she turned around and saw three masked men, pointing a gun right at her.

The woman had a gun — at least two actually — and it didn’t end well for one of the criminals. The other two fled, and the mother and her son were unharmed as a result.

Powers is right, we could find literally thousands of Americans whose lives have been saved because  they, or a friend, parent or neighbor was armed. Does this not seem the perfect way to fight back against the Left’s Emotionally based testimonies? Of course it does, because it is. So why has the leadership of the NRA, or Republican Congressmen not thought of it? Or maybe I should ask, why have they chosen NOT to go that direction since surely it has been suggested to them. I mean honestly, this is one of the biggest issues the Right faces. Too often the best arguments, ideas, etc come from people like Doug Powers, and other Conservative bloggers. Are we just that much smarter than our “leaders”? Or are we more intent on fighting? Do they fear unvarnished Conservatism?  What are they thinking? Seems too often they are thinking about not losing, rather than about winning.

FINALLY! Obama calls for tougher enforcement of border laws!!!

Oh, wait, I read that headline wrong, go figure!

WASHINGTON (AP) – Two months after the shooting of a U.S. congresswoman, President Barack Obama called Sunday for more stringent enforcement of existing gun laws, citing the “awful consequences” of gun violence in American society. In an op-ed essay in The Arizona Daily Star, Obama says legislation to bolster criminal background checks for gun buyers hasn’t been properly implemented, with too many states providing “incomplete and inadequate” information.

He suggested rewarding states that provide the most comprehensive information to the criminal background database.

“We should make the system faster and nimbler,” the president added. “We should provide an instant, accurate, comprehensive and consistent system for background checks to sellers who want to do the right thing, and make sure that criminals can’t escape it.”

Interesting that the Arizona shooter was never ruled mentally ill by a judge and was never committed to an institution. So, how would, these “instant, accurate, comprehensive and consistent system for background checks” have helped prevent the Arizona shootings exactly?

Another gigantic waste of time from the minds of Liberals!

The National Institute for Civil Discourse? Good freaking grief!

The National Institute for Civil Discourse opened yesterday at the University of Arizona. The institute is described as such:

a nonpartisan center for debate, research, education and policy about civility in public discourse.

Read more at the link if you like, but frankly, why waste the time?

How to handle an obnoxious, whiny, petulant Democrat

You just ignore them

At that point, Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz interjected with a parliamentary inquiry, and was eventually recognized once Graves was finished speaking.

“In two previous gentlemen’s statements on the amendment, both of them referred to the Affordable Care Act, which is the accurate title of the health care reform law, as ‘ObamaCare,’” Wasserman Schultz said. “That is a disparaging reference to the President of the United States. It is meant as a disparaging reference to the President of the United States. It is clearly in violation of the House rules.”

Her argument did not go anywhere, and Republicans continued their references to ObamaCare.

Well played!

Yet one more reason to love Allen West!

He irritates the sensitivities of the Congressional Black Caucus Via Bluegrass Pundit

(The Hill)- Still, some are “leery” of West, according to a CBC member who requested anonymity.

West raised some eyebrows in a CBC meeting soon after the assassination attempt of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.).

After members expressed concern for their safety, West, a two-decade plus Army veteran, said members should consider carrying a concealed weapon.

In an interview with The Hill this week, West said, “They were talking about getting detailed security and I said, ‘Well you just look in your state as far as getting a concealed weapons licensing,’ which is something that I have. I think personal protection starts with yourself, but you just coordinate with local law enforcement to make sure you have collateral security at your events.”

CBC member Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. (D-Ill.) said West’s suggestion didn’t go over well, adding it was “frowned” on by other lawmakers.

Man how I wish I had been there to see their faces! I would have cherished that memory forever!

Why am I smelling something rotten here? UPDATED!!

There is something that just does not set right with me about this story. It seems a bit too tidy and perfect for leftist talking points.

One of the wounded in the Tucson, Ariz., shooting that left Rep. Gabrielle Giffords critically injured is blaming Sarah Palin, House Speaker John Boehner, Fox TV host Glenn Beck and former Nevada GOP Senate candidate Sharron Angle for the tragedy.

“It looks like Palin, Beck, Sharron Angle and the rest got their first target,” Eric Fuller said in an interview with Democracy NOW.

“Their wish for Second Amendment activism has been fulfilled — senseless hatred leading to murder, lunatic fringe anarchism, subscribed to by John Boehner, mainstream rebels with vengeance for all — even 9-year-old girls,” he added, referring to the death of Christina Taylor Green.

Fuller, a 63-year-old veteran, had campaigned for Giffords during her reelection and was at the supermarket for her Congress on Your Corner event.

“I would put Sarah Palin in first place there. I think, really, she should be incarcerated for treason for advocating assassinating public officials,” Fuller said in an interview with Media Matters. “That map I saw that she published on the Internet had crosshairs on it and one of them was meant for Gabrielle Giffords.”

Yes, there it is, part of it anyway. Democracy Now, is a Left wing group that has about as much credibility as, well your standard Neo-Marxist group has, which is none. There is something else that REALLY does not sound right though. Earlier this week, this same man pointed not one finger, but called the shooter a madman.

Earlier this week, in an interview with CBS News, Fuller didn’t go as far as to point fingers. Instead, he called the accused shooter, Jared Loughner, a “madman.”

So, why did his tune so drastically change? You might expect the more emotional response to come sooner, rather than later. So, with absolutely nothing leading any reasonable person to connect anyone on the Right to this, why did he change his view? And look, if there is a more “perfect” guy for the Leftists to get to accuse Palin of being complicit I cannot imagine who that might be. This guy is veteran, and was wounded, so he has not one but two absolute moral authority cards to play doesn’t he?

He seems to be a true believer in far Left theology I would say, consider this from the NY Times

Mr. Fuller, the limousine driver, also supported Ms. Giffords but he went to see her for different reasons.

He became interested in politics only recently, and fell hard for liberal causes. He sends e-mail blasts denouncing “Replundercans.”

On Saturday, he stopped by Ms. Giffords’s event after his weekly tennis game expecting to see protesters, whom he had seen at previous Giffords events.

“I wanted to give her a boost and to protect her from the Tea Party crime syndicate and to shout them down,” he said. “I can make a lot of noise.”

There were no protesters, but he got into a heated argument with another person waiting to meet Ms. Giffords. An aide to Ms. Giffords, Gabriel Zimmerman, quickly stepped in to break them up. Mr. Zimmerman was killed in the shootings.

Well he seems to have a record as a far Leftist as his page at Hypnothoughts indicates

UPDATED! It seems that Mr. Fuller may indeed have issues with anger, odd how that is a fairly common trait among the “tolerant Left”

That’s where the atmosphere turned tense.   When Tucson Tea Party founder Trent Humphries rose to suggest that any conversation about gun control should be put off until after the funerals for all the victims, witnesses say Fuller became agitated.  Two told KGUN9 News that finally, Fuller took a picture of Humphries, and said, “You’re dead.”

When State Rep. Terri Proud (R-Tucson) rose to explain and clarify current and proposed gun legislation in the state, several people groaned or booed her.  One of those booing, according to several witnesses, was Fuller.   Witnesses sitting near Fuller told KGUN9 News that Fuller was making them feel very uncomfortable.

The event wrapped up a short time later.  Deputies then escorted Fuller from the room.  As he was being led off, Fuller shouted loudly to the room at large.  Several witnesses said that what they thought they heard him shout was, “You’re all whores!”

Fuller, age 63, is a political operative who specializes in gathering petitions for ballot initiatives.   Before the program began, he passed out business cards to people sitting around him that read:
