Blazing cat Fur is one of my favorite blogs, and now they are under attack by a Fascist named Richard Warman. Evil Blogger lady has the deatils
During my battles with the Canadian “human rights” regime, we relentlessly exposed the corrupt relationship between the Commissars and Canada’s self-appointed Hatefinder-General, Richard Warman. See here andhere, among many other places. I also spoke about him when testifying to Parliament. Almost as soon as the truth about his Nazi website postings became known, Warman began suing. He sued Ezra Levant, with whom I’ll be appearing on Saturday, as well as Kate McMillan, Kathy Shaidle, Free Dominion and anyone else who got in his way. At the time, many people asked me why he hadn’t sued me, both for columns that appeared in Maclean’s and for posts such as this one at SteynOnline.
Well, the reason he didn’t sue me is because (a) Maclean’s is a corporate entity with very deep pockets and (b) SteynOnline is based in the United States, where no court would give him the time of the day. So considerably more vulnerable Canadians have had to bear the brunt and serve as proxy targets for Warman’s shakedown racket. He is nowsuing Blazing Cat Fur merely for linking to “far-right web site” SteynOnline, and demanding half-a-million dollars for damage to his “reputation”. “Lame,” says Instapundit. Warman will not win, but please go over and drop a few bucks in the Cat’s kitty for his legal defense fund. The disgusting Warman has already been rebuked by a CHRT judge for his dress-up Nazi activities, and we owe the exposure of that not to his doting stenographers at The London Free Press but to a few plucky bloggers like Cat Fur. Do help out if you can. (More on this from Mrs Cat Fur. See also Cat On A Hot Trudeaupian Roof - and some cartoon advice for both Warman and the Prophet.)
As for being a “far-right web site”, during the period Richard Warman is suing over, SteynOnline featured my acclaimed obituaries from The Atlantic Monthly, my column from The Irish Times (one of the most liberal newspapers in Europe), interviews with Oscar-winning songwriters, and baking advice from Martha Stewart. By contrast, during the same time-frame, Stormfront member Richard Warman was busy posting racist, anti-Semitic and anti-gay comments all over Nazi websites. You be the judge. As they say at NPR, maybe he should see a psychiatrist.
We are at war, ideological war with the Left my friends. When one of us is attacked we all need to strike back!
The inherent failure of so many big government initiatives lies in this simple fact. the further away from the people power is consolidated, the more corruption, waste, fraud, and inefficiency we will have. Western Hero does a great job of giving us the latest example
Mark Steyn points out, so much government now is expensive window-dressing. The president looked good in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy:
He had himself photographed in the White House Situation Room, nodding thoughtfully to bureaucrats[...] and Tweeted it to his 3.2 million followers. He appeared in New Jersey wearing a bomber jacket rather than a suit to demonstrate that when the going gets tough the tough get out a monogrammed Air Force One bomber jacket.
So you can have Big Government bigger (or, anyway, more expensive) than any government’s ever been, and the lights still go out in 17 states – because your president spent 6 trillion bucks, and all the country got was a lousy Air Force One bomber jacket for him to wear while posing for a Twitpic answering the phone with his concerned expression. He notes that the hurricane only struck a few counties on the eastern seaboard, but it’s winds wreaked havoc with an antiquated electric grid across a swath of states:
Everyone else had slightly windier-than-usual wind – and yet they were out of power for days. In a county entirely untouched by Sandy, my office manager had no electricity for a week. Not because of an “emergency” but because of a decrepit and vulnerable above-the-ground electrical distribution system that ought to be a national embarrassment to any developed society.
Imagine if Obama’s 2009 stimulus had been spent burying every electric pole on the Eastern Seaboard. Instead, just that one Obama bill spent a little shy of a trillion dollars, and no one can point to a single thing it built.
This post from Bob Belvedere illustrates the difference between how the Left and Right view rights
…is awarded to Mark Steyn for his response to the pablum puked by a UN Official regarding Free Speech.
First: what the UN dickhead said:
Free speech is a “gift given to us by the [Universal] Declaration of Human Rights,” said Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations Jan Eliasson during a press conference on October 2nd at UN headquarters in New York. It is “a privilege,” Eliasson said, “that we have, which in my view involves also the need for respect, the need to avoid provocations.”
Free speech is a gift given to us in 1948 by U.N. officials? Who knew?
The only appropriate response of free-born peoples to such a statement is: **** off, ******. Free speech is not in the gift of minor Swedish timeserving hack bureaucrats, either to grant or withdraw.
The Left sees rights as collective, and they see them as things to be given by government, and, restricted by government as the government sees fit.
Hate crime that is. Because damn it, hate crimes are a serious problem, even if nutty Leftists have to make them up. Dan Riehl, with a new look to his blog, tells the tale of deceit by Charlie Rogers, Lesbian, catalyst, and liar
A former University of Nebraska women’s basketball star faked an attack in which she allegedly carved anti-gay slurs into her skin because she felt it would spark change, police said Tuesday.
“So maybe I am too idealistic, but I believe way deep inside me that we can make things better for everyone. I will be a catalyst. I will do what it takes. I will. Watch me,” read the July 18 posting, according to police.
Ah yes, the natural evolution of the Left. Rahm Emanuel is famous for saying never let a good crisis go to waste. Rogers takes that a step, or two farther, by faking a crisis that can then be exploited for “change”. Of course Rogers is not the first Lefty to go this route is she? There have been numerous “racist” incidents that have sparked outrage, that turned out to be fake. And, to be fair, maybe Rogers, and those other Leftist starter kits are just emulating the Sharpton model for self-starting race baiters. And, of course, we all know that many Leftists LOVE to feel like a victim don’t we? This is, in part, why the Democratic tactic of making everyone feel like a victim is so successful.
As I have noted before, if you understand the Left, understand this. When they see by any means necessary, they mean it!
Also, as long as we are talking about the phonies on the Left, let us touch on another manufactured crisis,
global warming, er climate change, whatever the Left is calling it this week. At The Other McCain, Stacy McCain notes that climate change zealots fake it too
For my money, the funniest thing in National Review editor Rich Lowry’s reply to global-warming guru Michael Mann is this:
Is it too much to ask that world-renowned climate scientists spend less time on Facebook?
Mann posted a number of enraged Facebook rants because his notorious “hockey stick” graph, projecting a sharp increase in global temperatures caused by CO2 emissions, was brutally mocked by Mark Steyn.
Mann is on the faculty of Penn State, which claimed to have conducted an “investigation” of scientific fraud in Mann’s climate-change studies. Is Mann therefore “the Jerry Sandusky of climate change”? It’s a fair question, said Steyn:
If an institution is prepared to cover up systemic statutory rape of minors, what won’t it cover up?
Since the 2009 release of the ClimateGate e-mails — remember “hide the decline”? — it has become obvious to most lay observers that Mann and his colleagues valued their hypothesis more than they valued facts. Among other things, the ClimateGate e-mails showed that caretakers of the global-warming “consensus” conspired to delegitimize their critics and exclude skeptics from the peer-review process.
Is at Pundit & Pundette. Jill does a great job exposing the culture of death that infects many on the Left.
Mark Steyn weighs in eloquently on the zombified Left’s creepy, soulless attack on Rick Santorum. Just a bit:
Two weeks ago I wrote in this space: “A nation, a society, a community is a compact between past, present and future.” Whatever my disagreements with Santorum on his “compassionate conservatism,” he gets that. He understands that our fiscal bankruptcy is a symptom rather than the cause.
The real wickedness of Big Government is that it debauches not merely a nation’s finances but, ultimately, its human capital – or, as he puts it, you cannot have a strong economy without strong families.
Santorum’s respect for all life, including even the smallest bleakest meanest two-hour life, speaks well for him, especially in comparison with his fellow Pennsylvanian, the accused mass murderer Kermit Gosnell, an industrial-scale abortionist at a Philadelphia charnel house who plunged scissors into the spinal cords of healthy delivered babies. Few of Gosnell’s employees seemed to find anything “weird” about that: Indeed, they helped him out by tossing their remains in jars and bags piled up in freezers and cupboards. Much less crazy than taking ‘em home and holding a funeral, right?
Steyn is a wise man, and Jill quotes him often. Steyn is one of the few people today that I would put on par with our Founders, that is how much I respect his wisdom.
Jill has more on the
abortion doctor cold-blooded butcher in Maryland
Meanwhile, in Maryland, more details emerge in the case of late-term abortionists Steven Brigham and Nicola Riley, who allegedly operated a handy drive-thru style service in which the patient would be induced in New Jersey but deliver her baby expel the contents of the uterus in Maryland, where it’s legal to abort late-term babies. After having her cervix dilated the young woman in question allegedly drove herself to the second location for the finish.
But hang on a sec. If you’ve never experienced the sensations created by a dilating cervix, whether naturally occurring (bad enough) or chemically-induced (much worse, I’m told), you may have passed over that phrase too quickly. The pain experienced by the 18 year-old as she drove must have been blinding and panic-inducing. And then it got worse; somewhere along the line her uterus ruptured. I don’t know what that feels like, thank God. The good doctors were then allegedly forced to dump her at a Maryland hospital. It appears she nearly bled to death. Whether her uterus survived its run-in with safe-n-legal, I can’t say. But let’s have a round of applause for Justice Blackmun, Margaret Sanger, and all the selfless warriors who made “choice” the most important right of all. It’s been very empowering.
That last part I highlighted speaks volumes doesn’t it? It speaks to the evil obsession the Far Left has with promoting Collectivism. And it speaks to their loathing of individual liberties. This ties in with their obsession with death as well.
The Left celebrates, no, consecrates abortion. The Left sees as sacred the collective right of women to “control their own bodies”, unless a woman wants to be in charge of any other health care decision of course, then her individual liberty must be surrendered on the altar of Universal Health Care. And, in their defense of abortion, which they see as a Collective Right, the Left is willing to dispense with the individual liberty of the unborn child that men like Mason, and Jefferson wrote about. Yes, that “unalienable right” to LIFE? It must go in favor of the Collective right of “choice”.
The history of the Totalitarian Left has many tales of evils, its path to the utopia of Collectivism is lined with unspeakable atrocities. From Stalin, to Pol Pot, to Mao, to Castro and Che, the Collectivists AKA Marxists have slaughtered tens upon tens of millions, and brought suffering, starvation, and evil to tens of millions more. All of their deeds have been in one way or another been cloaked in the desire to achieve a “common good”.
When individual liberty is sacrificed for the collective good, the individual is made expendable. The individual is stripped of all their value and worth. After all, what is one individual really worth, in comparison with the collective good the Left argues. But, in the end, all the Left has ever achieved, in their morally bankrupt pursuit of the common good is first the loss of individual liberties, followed in short order by abject misery for the collective.
The reason that I dropped off the Herman Cain bandwagon was simple. He had no grip on foreign policy, and that is a deal killer for me. Of course Cain would have been better than the pathetic Obama record on foreign policy H/T American Power
I recall a co-worker from the late 1990′s, she was a Lesbian, and her Lesbianism was the entire focal point for her life. She once told me that one of the goals of hate crime legislation was to eventually, criminalize certain types of speech. Basically, her argument was that there have to be limits to freedom of speech. I thought of her this morning while I read what Donald Douglas has linked at American Power. Donald Douglas has a piece up about Canada’s effort to ban speech that the Left judges to be offensive
The right to free speech is one of the most important democratic freedoms. It enables the flow of information and encourages diversity of opinion in the public sphere, as well as criticism of political leadership, all of which are in the public interest. But like most freedoms, it is not absolute, nor should it be.
The Supreme Court of Canada is currently pondering whether to jettison provisions in the Saskatchewan Human Rights Code that restrict free speech in the interests of protecting a vulnerable minority from publicly proclaimed hatred. The case in question concerns the rights of homosexuals, but the issue is broader: The court’s judgment will have a ripple effect on anti-hate laws and the rights of minorities everywhere.
Ah, yes, anti-hate laws, which are used by the left to ban or criminalize speech they deem dangerous. The Left, of course, being totalitarian in the ideology believe that what they do not like, the government should curtail, limit, or ban outright. We often hear calls for this type of thing in the United States, mainly from Leftists who which to suppress not hate, but speech that dares differ from Leftist ideals of Collectivism. As the author of this piece puts it, it is time for America to, say it with me, join the “rest of the world”
European countries without our tradition of upholding anti-hate laws, and without a history of ethnic pluralism, have had a much harder time coping with growing diversity. Only the United States allows almost unmitigated speech, but some legal scholars, such as Jeremy Waldron of New York University, are beginning to believe that America should align itself with the rest of the world’s liberal democracies – countries that, in his words, “take affirmative responsibility for protecting the atmosphere of mutual respect against certain forms of vicious attack.”
This protection has become urgent in the years since 9/11 with the concomitant increase in verbal attacks on Muslims. In Canada, the most prominent free-speech extremists are Ezra Levant, who provocatively republished the insulting Danish cartoons denigrating the Prophet Mohammed in 2006, and Mark Steyn, who has been generalizing about Muslims for years. Both these authors have tried to shift the Canadian consensus by normalizing previously unacceptable levels of speech.
And normalizing is exactly how it happens. Shifts in the general consensus regarding minorities are progressive and incremental. We don’t notice. Then we wake up to find ourselves in a changed environment, as did the Norwegians after Anders Breivik went on a murderous rampage last summer. Mr. Breivik was part of a growing continuum of radicals fixated on the idea that Muslims, as an undifferentiated group, are conspiring against the West. In his eyes, he was a patriot. Unfortunately, history is rife with such people. They are nourished on incessant, unbridled hate speech.
Ah, MUTUAL RESPECT! As deemed by government? In other words the writer, and Leftists who think like he does wish the government to decide what is acceptable, respectful, offensive, etc. Because, in their minds, if the government does restrict speech, we will all go crazy and slaughter one another or something. Of course, such laws will be used by the Left to silence dissenting views. Odd, the left used to say dissent was patriotic, but that was when Republicans held the White House, now, the Left calls dissent other words, racist, bigoted, hate, Fascist, etc.
I wonder why the Left never seeks to ban THEIR hateful words? Oh, sorry, that would require the Left to be CONSISTENT, and I think we all know that ain’t going to happen.
The basic issue here is this. the Left wants to let government dictate how much infringement upon a basic human right, freedom of speech, van occur in defense of “civility”, or at least what the Left deems civil. That, the Left thinks, would work out well for them, and I suppose it would, until the government decided that something a Leftist said, was, well, you know……….
How proud of the Left Stalin, and Hitler, and Pol Pot, and Mao, and Lennin would be.
These are my choices of the top 25 Conservative thinkers/writers/speakers/political leaders in this nation. They are not ranked in any certain order, and yes, I thought about including Ed and myself, but my humility, or maybe my common sense got the better of me. Please share your thoughts
