After Only 115 Days In Office Charlotte Democrat Mayor Arrested, Faces 20 Years In Prison – Gateway Pundit

That didn’t take long…

After only 115 days in office, Democrat Charlotte Mayor Arrested, Faces 20 Years In Prison

Democrat Mayor Patrick D. Cannon is accused of bribery and extortion.

.

.
CNN reported:

FBI agents on Wednesday arrested the mayor of Charlotte, North Carolina, for allegedly taking tens of thousands of dollars worth of bribes “in exchange for the use of his official position,” the U.S. attorney’s office said.

Patrick D. Cannon, 47, faces federal charges of theft and bribery concerning programs receiving federal funds, honest services wire fraud and extortion under color of official right, according to a press release from U.S. Attorney Anne Tompkins of western North Carolina.

The Charlotte mayor’s office declined a CNN request for comment. However, CNN obtained a copy of Cannon’s resignation letter, sent to City of Charlotte Manager Ron Carlee and City Attorney Bob Hagemann.

“I hereby give notice of my resignation from the position of the Mayor of the City of Charlotte, effective immediately. In light of the charges that have been brought against me, it is my judgment that the pendency of these charges will create too much of a distraction for the business of the City to go forward smoothly and without interruption,” Cannon wrote in the letter.

Yet Another Democrat Politician In Trouble For Committing Multiple Felonies

Possible Felonies Cited For Rep. Christina Ayala – Connecticut Post

The State Elections Enforcement Commission has referred Bridgeport state Rep. Christina Ayala for criminal prosecution in connection with a phony address she used to apply for public financing during her 2012 campaign for the General Assembly.

.

The commission on Wednesday recommended five potential criminal charges, including felonies of fabricating evidence and fraud. The commission’s findings follow a Hearst Connecticut Newspapers investigation in December that revealed Ayala was living outside her district.

The charges were serious enough to compel Speaker of the House J. Brendan Sharkey to immediately remove the first-term lawmaker from her membership on three legislative committees.

But if the decision and its immediate and potential consequences upset Ayala, she didn’t show it Wednesday afternoon.

Not reachable by phone all day, she was found around 4:30 p.m. sitting at her father Tito’s bar on Beechwood Avenue knocking back shots in celebration of her sister Anis’ birthday.

“It is an ongoing investigation,” Ayala said of the commission’s recommendation. “Unfortunately at this moment I cannot comment.”

But asked whether she would consider stepping down from the legislature, she replied, “All I will say is I love my job.”

Christina Ayala also wouldn’t talk about the state panel’s recommendation that her mother, Democratic Registrar of Voters Santa Ayala, be criminally investigated for fraud and conspiracy for allowing her daughter to use a false address on Noble Avenue as her place of residence between 2009 and 2013. The investigation revealed evidence that Santa Ayala knew of and may have cooperated in the fraud.

“I don’t have any comment. Obviously, the city attorneys are involved,” the registrar said in a brief interview Wednesday.

Since the issue involves her actions as Bridgeport’s Democratic registrar of voters, the city attorney’s office will be involved in her defense.

Santa Ayala’s actions previously came under fire during the 2010 gubernatorial election, when she and other election officials failed to order enough ballots, delaying for days the outcome of the election.

Hearst Connecticut Newspapers first reported about Christina Ayala’s false address last year, after the discrepancy was noticed in a police report on an incident in which she was involved.

Ayala, a Democrat, allegedly listed an address where she did not live when applying for the Citizens Election Program, which provides campaign money for candidates who reach threshold limits of no more than $100 per contribution.

An elections commission investigation found that Ayala voted in nine different elections using that address, when she actually resided elsewhere.

“There is evidence that she ran for elected office twice from this false address during the period, including for the office she currently holds,” said the report of a commission attorney. “There is evidence that she also applied for funds from the Citizens’ Election Program using this false address. Additionally, the investigation revealed evidence that Representative Ayala fabricated evidence in response to this investigation, with the intent of misleading Commission staff.”

Sharkey immediately took Ayala off the Appropriations, Housing and Children’s committees.

“For an elected official, maintaining the public trust is paramount,” he said. “The fact that this case has moved to a different level calls into question whether that trust has been breached. Until this matter is resolved, I have relieved Representative Ayala of her membership from her assigned legislative committees.”

In a statement, Mayor Bill Finch, who had avoided commenting on Christina Ayala’s troubles until recently, said he was alarmed by the allegations against both mother and daughter.

“These are a very serious, alarming and troublesome series of allegations regarding election laws involving Christina Ayala and Santa Ayala,” he said. “These allegations seem to reflect a very disturbing pattern of behavior, but at this juncture they are just that — allegations — which must be investigated to the fullest extent by the appropriate authorities. The investigation will have to run its course, and I will reserve further comment until the findings are in.”

Found: Politician With More Gaffes Than Joe Biden And Nancy Pelosi Combined (Video)

Found: Politician With More Gaffes Than Biden, Pelosi Combined! – Bizpac Eeview

The political buzz around Queensland, Australia these days is centered on a young parliamentary candidate who has managed to make more gaffes than Joe Biden and Nancy Pelosi combined – and do it all within a single interview.

.
……….

Things started off badly for Stephanie Banister, a 27-year-old welder running for a seat in Rankin, Queensland, when she described Islam as being a country during her interview with CNN affiliate 7 News. Instead of correcting the blunder, she piled one on top of another, according to CNN.

“I don’t oppose Islam as a country,” Banister began, “but I do feel that their laws should not be welcome here in Australia.”

Then she added, “Less than 2% of Australians follow haram.” Did she mean the Quran, or the Muslim dietary laws? She wasn’t at all clear, but nonetheless plowed ahead to offer her ignorance of other religions.

“Jews aren’t under haram, they have their own religion which follows Jesus Christ,” she asserted.

After muffing up the world’s religions, she decided to tackle Australian national issues, noting its disability insurance program was “working at the moment.” It is not set to begin until 2016, according to Australian 7 News.

Almost immediately after it aired, the interview went viral – worldwide – an inauspicious beginning for a young pol. Shortly afterwards, she withdrew her candidacy, claiming to be the victim of malicious editing.

“With the way Channel Seven edited my interview, I was left quite the fool,” Banister said.

Banister is now being referred to in Queensland as the former candidate for Parliament, her campaign having lasted a total of 48 hours. May I suggest she consider moving to the United States? The Democratic Party would welcome her with open arms as one of its own.

Former SEAL blasts Bloomberg!

BRILLIANT!

Former Navy SEAL Dom Raso has a special message for NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg and others like him who are pushing for more gun control: “If you really cared about the American people, you’d stand up for more freedom for them, and not more power and status for yourself.”

The 12-year veteran is one of the newest NRA News contributors and has just released a diatribe against politicians who say they stand up for American safety but are quick to sacrifice essential freedom.

“It is unbelievable that politicians like Mayor Bloomberg think that they are experts on personal protection,” Raso says in the video. “Me and the guys I fought with, we didn’t go to war so that some politician could dictate whatever he thinks is best for the American people.”

“What have those guys ever accomplished that gives them any credibility on the subject of personal protection?” he adds later:

Democrat Politician Scolds Child With Special Needs In Restaurant, Skips Out On Bill

Everett Politician Accused Of Berating Child With Special Needs In Public – WFXT

An elected official for the City of Everett is accused of berating a child with special needs while dining at the Texas Roadhouse located in Everett on March 6.

The incident involving Wayne Matewsky, who is running for state representative, was discussed during Monday night’s meeting at city hall. The common council voted unanimously 16 to zero to have the city’s ethics committee look into the allegations.

…………………

Dozens of Everett residents attended the meeting; however, not all the residents were displeased with Matewsky or his alleged actions. Many said they would stand by Matewsky, his reputation, his commitment to the city, and his lengthy public service career.

“He is hard working very ethical and caring person. He represents this city with great dignity and honesty,” one such resident said.

Witnesses told FOX 25 that Matewsky got into a heated verbal argument with the child’s father because the child was being noisy; however, Matewsky denies that the incident ever happened and that the allegations are politically motivated.

A spokesperson for Texas Roadhouse painted a different story telling the city councilors in a letter that Matewsky used “foul language” and berated employees. The spokesman claims Matewsky left without paying his bill and even threatened to have the health department shut the restaurant down.

Revere resident and father Michael Toto says he was at the restaurant that night, and witnessed Matewsky yelling at the family because Matewsky felt the family couldn’t control the child, so Toto brought it to the attention of the common council.

Matewsky has since reportedly apologized to the restaurant’s staff.

“We are pleased that Mr. Matewsky has since apologized to our staff for this unfortunate incident. We are willing to forgive and forget, and consider this matter closed,” Texas Roadhouse said in a statement.

Matewsky, a 30-year veteran of Everett politics, topped four other Democrats, including former Mayor John Hanlon, in special election primary to replace Democrat Stephen “Stat” Smith, who resigned from the House after agreeing to plead guilty to casting invalid absentee ballots. He will face two un-enrolled candidates in the April 2 special election.

The ethics committee will begin their investigation and depending on what they find, they could expel Matewsky from the council. They are hoping to complete their investigation by April 4, but then again the special election for state representative is slated for April 2.

Bulgarian Politician Ahmed Dogan Nearly Assassinated On Live TV (Video)

Bulgarian Politician Ahmed Dogan Was Nearly Assassinated On Live TV – International Business Times

A Bulgarian politician was nearly assassinated on live television while giving a speech on Saturday afternoon as an assailant broke into a political-party conference and held a gun to his head.

Ahmed Dogan, 58, leader of the Movement for Rights and Freedoms, was delivering a speech in Sofia when a man later identified as Oktai Enimehmedov, 25, rushed the stage and held the leader at gunpoint. For a moment, the gunman hesitated, and Dogan attempted to knock his hand away. Then, Dogan and his assailant fell to the ground before security and other party members apprehended the assailant, according to the Sofia Globe.

A local TV station captured the entire event, from Dogan’s speech to the attempted assassin’s arrest. Footage of the incident shows that not only was the assailant apprehended soon after pointing a gun at Dogan, but, once he was on the ground, several party members repeatedly kicked him in the face and torso.

“Ahmed Dogan is in good health. Everything is under control,” party official Ceyhan Ibryamov told Reuters after the harrowing incident.

Gawker contended that footage of the event showed Enimehmedov not only pointed the gun at Dogan’s head, but also pulled the trigger twice. If this were the case, it would appear Enimehmedov’s gun jammed during the assassination attempt.

Bulgaria’s Interior Ministry said in a statement that Enimehmedov is from the city of Bourgas and has two previous criminal convictions. The would-be assassin was convicted for causing bodily harm in 2006 and drug possession in 2010. Enimehmedov is a Bulgarian national who is ethnically Turkish.

In addition to the gun, authorities later found two knives on Enimehmedov’s person.

Interior Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov told reporters an investigation is under way.

Dogan’s party is a strongly liberal organization in Bulgaria and attempts to represent ethnic Turks and other Muslims who, together, make up roughly 12 percent of Bulgaria’s population.

Watch a video of the failed assassination attempt below, as captured by a local TV station.

Another Corrupt Democrat Politician Goes To Prison

Former City Councilman Larry Seabrook Sentenced To Five Years For Misappropriation Of Funds – New York Daily News

Former City councilman Larry Seabrook will spend five years in prison for misdirecting hundreds of thousands of dollars for community projects to his girlfriend and family members.

Seabrook, 61, was sentenced Tuesday. His surrender date is March 8.

“I will continue to fight in the service of people. I truly love the northeast Bronx,” the Bronx Democrat said during his sentencing.

He described himself as a “proud man” to Judge Deborah Batts, who acknowledged his many years in public service as she addressed him from the bench.

Batts said his many achievements had been irrevocably tarnished by his own “sense of entitlement and greed.”

Seabrook had “held himself above the law and betrayed the public trust by using his public office to enrich himself and others,” Batts said.

Seabrook was convicted of 9 of 12 counts in a trial last summer in Manhattan federal court. The conviction came a year after another jury deadlocked on fraud charges.

Before he was arrested, Seabrook also had served as a state assemblyman and a senator. He has continued to deny wrongdoing.

The government says Seabrook diverted money from 2002 through 2009.

It says he directed more than $2 million of funds to nonprofit organizations he controlled but were not doing legitimate work.

U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara said Seabrook “sacrificed the public trust on the altar of greed.”

He applauded the 5-year sentence, saying it vindicated the taxpayers that Seabrook had cheated.

“We remain committed to making those who are corrupted by power pay the price, and the public can expect more arrests of politicians who have not learned this lesson,” Bharara said.
