The Benghazi Fairy Tale continues to unravel

Why anyone still supports this administration is far beyond my ability to understand.

Via Sharyl Attkisson:

A newly-released government email indicates that within hours of the Sept. 11, 2012 attacks on Americans in Benghazi, Libya; the State Department had already concluded with certainty that the Islamic militia terrorist group Ansar al Sharia was to blame.

The private, internal communication directly contradicts the message that President Obama, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Susan Rice and White House press secretary Jay Carney repeated publicly over the course of the next several weeks. They often maintained that an anti-Islamic YouTube video inspired a spontaneous demonstration that escalated into violence.

The email is entitled “Libya update from Beth Jones. ” Jones was then-Assistant Secretary of State to Hillary Clinton. According to the email, Jones spoke to Libya’s Ambassador at 9:45am on Sept. 12, 2012 following the attacks.

“When [the Libyan Ambassador] said his government suspected that former Qaddafi regime elements carried out the attacks, I told him the group that conducted the attacks—Ansar Al Sharia—is affiliated with Islamic extremists,” Jones reports in the email.

Fox: Email Reveals Obama Advisor Urged Rice To Blame Video For Benghazi – Mediaite

.

.
On Tuesday, an email obtained by the government watchdog Judicial Watch revealed that a senior American advisor informed then National Security Advisor Susan Rice to emphasize that the deadly 2012 attack on a U.S. consulate in Libya was the result of a spontaneous protest arising from an inflammatory YouTube video. Transcripts later revealed that senior defense officials had informed the administration on the night of the assault that the event was a “terrorist attack.”

Fox’s intel correspondent Catherine Herridge reported that White House Deputy National Security Advisor Ben Rhodes advised Rice in a September 14 email to focus on the YouTube video during her appearances on a variety of Sunday morning news programs:

Among the goals Rhodes outlined for Rice was for her “to underscore that these protests are rooted in an internet video, and not a broader failure of policy.”

Chris Matthews gets paid how much?

According to the New York Times, MSNBS pays Matthews 5 million a year to play a stammering buffoon on TV every night

Chris Matthews, the usually garrulous host of “Hardball” on MSNBC, has quietly signed a new long-term contract to remain with the cable network through the next election, signaling that he had quit entertaining any plans to run for a Senate seat.

The deal is for at least four years. Financial terms were not disclosed, and neither side would confirm whether MSNBC had won a reduction in salary for the host, as it had been reported to be seeking. Previous reports put his annual salary at about $5 million.

One executive involved in the negotiations said, “Whether he took a slight cut or got a slight raise, it’s nobody’s business.”

Phil Griffin, the president of MSNBC, said the deal would guarantee that Mr. Matthews would “be around to cover the next presidential election.” Mr. Matthews, known for his combative interviews, said he was happy to be staying on. “I love what I do,” he said. “It’s transparent. You can see it in my face.”

Oh yeah Chris, we can see something on your face, usually insanity. I guess it is true, the big money is on TV. But I cannot fathom anyone paying Matthews anything. In my years in the restaurant/bar business I have heard more coherent talk from people who were falling down drunk. Matthews really is, as Stacey McCain describes him, “The 5 million dollar idiot”

Leftists who get worked up about the Growing Gap Between Rich and Poor really ought to organize an #OccupyChrisMatthews movement to protest this truthless waste of TV time whose NBC contract reportedly pays him $5 million a year. If I took notice every time Chris Matthews makes a complete idiot of himself, I’d never have time to write about anything else. He’s a human Stupidity Factory, with no internal mental filter that warns him when he is about to emit a steaming heap of senseless gibberish.

Yep, that pretty much sums Matthews up. And while his fellow MSNBS hosts’s willingness to say anything regardless of facts is equally despicable, Matthews appears to be, as I like to say, a genuine idiot

Look, this isn’t about ideology. Chris Hayes and Rachel Maddow are more fanatical than Matthews, and I disagree with them on damned near any issue you could name. But Hayes and Maddow — and for that matter, the insufferably smug Lawrence O’Donnell — are intelligent, articulate people. Evil, yes, but intelligent and articulate.

On the other hand, transcending all partisan differences, no one with an IQ above room temperature takes Chris Matthews seriously.

How bad is he? I’d rather watch Martin Bashir, except for the purely comic value of Matthews’s idiotic utterances. And this past week, Matthews managed to say something so incomprehensibly stupid, it was remarkable even for him. The context was the swirl of scandals afflicting the Obama administration. Matthews first suggested that criticism of Susan Rice was raaaaacist:

“Here they are, the old white guys, kicking the hell out of another African-American candidate for something.” . . .
“The discourse coming from that side, I don’t use that word liar. I don’t like it being used. Because it gets to motive and you don’t know what is in another person’s heart. How do these people get away with talking like this, I mean anywhere, even on Fox?”

Look, to be fair, MSNBS has hitched its ratings wagon (picture a wagon, with no driver, engulfed in flames as it drives off the edge of a 1,000 foot cliff) to racism, or at least to calling every Republican on earth a racist. Matthews though take sit to another level. His rantings reveal the depth of his Racial Obsession Syndrome, and, apparently, the intensity of the Obamagasms that strike him so often

“Peter, again to you. Why do they get the idea, if it isn’t ethnic, and I’ll just leave the possibility that it’s not. Why do they just assume evil on the part of Obama?” Mr. Matthews asked. “I mean he’s raised, his whole life has been crystal clear and clean as a whistle and transparent. We know his whole life through all the great excellent education he’s had. The good pro-bono work he’s done through his life. He’s never been a money grubber. He’s never done anything wrong in his life, legally ethically, whatever. His family is picture-perfect. The way he’s raised those daughters. Everything is clean as a whistle. And yet, they just refer to him as evil. They just refer to him as a liar. I’ve got to believe it’s ethnic with these people. They just got a problem with this guy being president, is there any other evidence to justify why they keep calling him a bad man? And that’s what they do.”

For that kind of idiotic rambling they pay him 5 million a year? The only way that makes any sense if if he works on a base salary of say, $500,000, and receives a bonus of $1000 every time he utters something completely irrational, incoherent, moronic, or idiotic. At the rate Matthews spews stupidity, that math might add up. Let’s see here

Base salary $500,000

$1000  bonus per idiotic statement x 4,500 idiotic statements per year

Total salary $5,000,000

The Real Reason Obama Tapped Susan Rice For National Security Adviser (K.T. McFarland)

The Real Reason Obama Tapped Susan Rice For National Security Adviser – K.T. McFarland

President Obama will tap UN Ambassador Susan Rice Tuesday to serve as our nation’s next National Security Adviser.

Tuesday morning my reaction was Susan Rice as National Security Adviser? She will be a DISASTER.

.

Here’s why: I spent seven years working for the most successful NSC Adviser in history, Henry Kissinger.

I watched him conceive new policies, negotiate with foreign leaders, ride herd over the bureaucracy, massage the press and foreign policy intelligentsia, work behind the scenes with congressional leaders.

Susan Rice can’t do any of those things.

She has zero credibility with the media, on Capitol Hill, with the foreign policy community and foreign leaders, and is so badly tarnished by the Benghazi scandal that she walks into the job on Day One weak and wounded.

The most obvious problem is her disastrous performance on the Sunday talk shows peddling the administration’s fairy tale on Benghazi; when she was either complicit in the cover-up or incompetent.

Either she knew what really happened and deliberately lied to the American people or she was a mere actress who read the script she was given and didn’t know enough to question whether they were right.

Susan Rice might have been able to overcome the Benghazi debacle if she had other strong credentials, for example being a senior military officer like Colin Powell and Brent Scowcroft, or a respected academic like Kissinger and Brzezinski. But she is none of these.

When the spotlight was on her in her biggest job she was being an ineffective U.N. ambassador who couldn’t get Russia or China on board to deal with Syria or impose strict sanctions against Iran – and was stunned when they refused to do what she wanted them to.

Not only did she fail to persuade them, she didn’t know she had failed to do so until the vote was taken!

Benghazi was supposed to be her audition for Secretary of State job – go on all the Sunday talk shows and be the Obama administration’s spokesman.

She was so eager to for the try out that she didn’t stop and ask why they wanted her. The decision to send someone out from the administration to all five talk shows is a decision made at the highest levels of the White House.

It should have been the Secretary of State, or maybe Secretary of Defense, or CIA chief, or NSC Adviser or White House Chief of Staff – they were part of the decision process.

Susan Rice was the one senior administration official who knew nothing about events leading up to Benghazi and the Benghazi attack, yet the White House asked her to go on those shows?

Alarm bells should have gone off in her head!

I checked their schedules and most of the other senior officials were in Washington and available that morning. It’s just that they were smarter than Rice and realized it was a poisoned chalice.

So what is President Obama thinking with the Rice appointment? He’s doubling down and circling the wagons. He’s rewarding Rice for being a loyal (if incompetent) soldier.

Hang tough on scandals and deny he knew anything about any of them until he read it in the papers.

Or, maybe Obama is smarter than it looks on the surface.By appointing Rice to NSA job means she can invoke executive privilege and doesn’t have to testify on Capitol Hill. And she will certainly be a loyal soldier if she is now sitting 40 yards from the Oval Office.

Hmmm… is Obama now taking Rice out of the running to be a key witness in the inevitable Benghazi hearings? Once she’s on the White House staff, she can hide behind the veil of executive privilege.

Stay tuned. This story is far from over.

Timeline exposes Benghazi lies

Via the Weekly Standard

As intelligence officials pieced together the puzzle of events unfolding in Libya, they concluded even before the assaults had ended that al Qaeda-linked terrorists were involved. Senior administration officials, however, sought to obscure the emerging picture and downplay the significance of attacks that killed a U.S. ambassador and three other Americans. The frantic process that produced the changes to the talking points took place over a 24-hour period just one day before Susan Rice, U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, made her now-famous appearances on the Sunday television talk shows. The discussions involved senior officials from the State Department, the National Security Council, the CIA, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, and the White House.

The White House provided the emails to members of the House and Senate intelligence committees for a limited time and with the stipulation that the documents were available for review only and would not be turned over to the committees. The White House and committee leadership agreed to that arrangement as part of a deal that would keep Republican senators from blocking the confirmation of John Brennan, the president’s choice to run the CIA. If the House report provides an accurate and complete depiction of the emails, it is clear that senior administration officials engaged in a wholesale rewriting of intelligence assessments about Benghazi in order to mislead the public. The Weekly Standard sought comment  from officials at the White House, the State Department, and the CIA, but received none by press time. Within hours of the initial attack on the U.S. facility, the State Department Operations Center sent out two alerts. The first, at 4:05 p.m. (all times are Eastern Daylight Time), indicated that the compound was under attack; the second, at 6:08 p.m., indicated that Ansar al Sharia, an al Qaeda-linked terrorist group operating in Libya, had claimed credit for the attack. According to the House report, these alerts were circulated widely inside the government, including at the highest levels. The fighting in Benghazi continued for another several hours, so top Obama administration officials were told even as the fighting was taking place that U.S. diplomats and intelligence operatives were likely being attacked by al Qaeda-affiliated terrorists. A cable sent the following day, September 12, by the CIA station chief in Libya, reported that eyewitnesses confirmed the participation of Islamic militants and made clear that U.S. facilities in Benghazi had come under terrorist attack. It was this fact, along with several others, that top Obama officials would work so hard to obscure.

The Other McCain has more

So, it was CIA vs. C.Y.A. at the State Department which, quite frankly, has been infiltrated by Edward Said-influenced Arab specialists to such an extent that it was practically a Muslim Brotherhood outpost even before the Obama administration took over.

Seriously, you can ask Bush administration people about this: Middle Eastern scholarship within academia is so dominated by anti-Western views that, insofar as anyone has the credentials to qualify as a specialist in the field — i.e., to get hired into and promoted within the bureaucracy — they’re certain to have been saturated in ideas about “Western imperialism” and the legitimacy of Arab/Islamic grievances. And while this has also been a problem at the CIA and the Pentagon, the State Department is absolutely chock-full of such people in staff positions, so that even with hawkish neocons in the political appointee roles during the Bush years, the pro-Arab/pro-Muslim culture at Foggy Bottom never really changed.

I feel the need to point this out now because some of my well-meaning conservative friends, who (quite correctly) complain about the dubious influences within the Obama administration, often neglect to discuss the larger problem, which pre-dates Obama. However, there is good reason to think it is more of a problem now:

In 1998 Obama attended a speech by [Edward] Said, in which the scholar called for a nonviolent campaign “against settlements, against Israeli apartheid.” In a well-publicized photo, Obama and Said can be seen talking over dinner at this pro-Arab event.
According to the Los Angeles Times, in the early 1980s Obama had been one of Said’s students in an undergraduate English class at Columbia University.

None of this is necessarily related to the Benghazi cover-up — I don’t mean to feed anyone’s conspiratorial paranoia — but it does highlight the nature of the larger problem, what Jeanne Kirkpatrick rightly called the “Blame America First” mentality.

Team Obama summed up!

By Doug Powers, who clues us in on the origin of those talking points that matter more to Susan Rice than four dead Americans.

For months the White House has been pinning the “it was the video” talking points on regarding the Benghazi attack on Susan Rice and/or the intelligence community, but not surprisingly the trail is leading to the top.

Yesterday, Jay Carney said that on the night of the attack, President Obama spoke with Hillary Clinton at about 10 p.m.

At approximately 10:30 p.m. the Hillary Clinton/the State Department releasedthis statement:

I condemn in the strongest terms the attack on our mission in Benghazi today. As we work to secure our personnel and facilities, we have confirmed that one of our State Department officers was killed. We are heartbroken by this terrible loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and those who have suffered in this attack.

This evening, I called Libyan President Magariaf to coordinate additional support to protect Americans in Libya. President Magariaf expressed his condemnation and condolences and pledged his government’s full cooperation.

Some have sought to justify this vicious behavior as a response to inflammatory material posted on the Internet. The United States deplores any intentional effort to denigrate the religious beliefs of others. Our commitment to religious tolerance goes back to the very beginning of our nation. But let me be clear: There is never any justification for violent acts of this kind.

In light of the events of today, the United States government is working with partner countries around the world to protect our personnel, our missions, and American citizens worldwide.

And by “some” Hillary’s probably referring first and foremost to Obama.

By the way, Susan Rice recently said that focusing on who originally suggested the “blame the video” talking points is a bigger tragedy than the attack that killed four Americans.

Powers sums up Team Obama perfectly

These people aren’t qualified to be in charge of a convenience store and yet they’re running the country.

Yep!
