IRS Employee Suspended For Urging Customer Service Help Line Callers To Vote For Obama

IRS Worker Suspended For Pro-Obama Activities – Washington Times

An IRS employee was suspended for 100 days for using his job at the agency’s help line to try to convince callers to vote for President Obama, a government watchdog agency announced Thursday.

.
…………

.
The employee, whose name wasn’t mentioned in the announcement from the Office of Special Counsel, admitted to using his job for political purposes and agreed to the settlement that involved a 100-day suspension.

“OSC’s complaint alleged that, when fielding taxpayers’ questions on an IRS customer service help line, the employee repeatedly urged taxpayers to re-elect President Obama in 2012 by delivering a chant based on the spelling of the employee’s last name,” the investigative office said.

The OSC also announced a U.S. Postal Service employee was fired after he ran for seats in Congress and solicited donations to his campaign, violating the Hatch Act that limits government employees’ ability to get involved in politics.

That man, Marcus Lewis, ran despite being warned against it by the OSC, leading to a series of personnel hearings that resulted in the Merit Systems Protection Board demanding he be fired.

The judgment against the IRS employee, meanwhile, was the third instance where the tax agency has run afoul of the Hatch Act in recent months.

The OSC announced in May that the Dallas office of the IRS had to be warned after complaints that it was “commonplace” to have pro-Obama screensavers on computers, and to have campaign-style buttons and stickers at the office.

And an IRS employee in Kentucky served a 14-day suspension for blasting Republicans in a telephone conversation with a taxpayer.

‘Stand With Phil’: See The Support Flooding The Internet For Suspended ‘Duck Dynasty’ Star

‘Stand With Phil’: See The Support Flooding The Internet For Suspended ‘Duck Dynasty’ Star – The Blaze

Just one day after Phil Robertson’s comments on homosexuality earned him an indefinite suspension from “Duck Dynasty,” the reality show star has received a strong show of support from the governor of his state and others.

.

.
Louisiana Republican Gov. Bobby Jindal called it a “messed-up situation when Miley Cyrus gets a laugh, and Phil Robertson gets suspended.”

“Phil Robertson and his family are great citizens of the state of Louisiana. The politically correct crowd is tolerant of all viewpoints, except those they disagree with.” Jindal said in a statement. “I don’t agree with quite a bit of stuff I read in magazine interviews or see on TV. In fact, come to think of it, I find a good bit of it offensive. But I also acknowledge that this is a free country and everyone is entitled to express their views. In fact, I remember when TV networks believed in the First Amendment. It is a messed up situation when Miley Cyrus gets a laugh, and Phil Robertson gets suspended.”

Robertson told GQ Magazine in an interview that he didn’t understand why someone would choose to have sex with a man instead of a woman.

“It seems like, to me, a vagina – as a man – would be more desirable than a man’s anus. That’s just me. I’m just thinking: There’s more there! She’s got more to offer. I mean, come on, dudes! You know what I’m saying? But hey, sin: It’s not logical, my man. It’s just not logical,” Robertson said.

Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin also jumped in to defend the Robertson family patriarch, saying on Twitter that “free speech is (an) endangered species.”

A new “Stand With Phil” Twitter account had more than 700 followers as of Thursday morning.

Despite the support, many others also speaking out against Robertson.

MSNBC’s Twitter account referred to his comments as “homophobic.”

Others called Robertson a “racist,” with one Twitter user writing, “I don’t know why anyone’s even surprised Phil Robertson turned out to be racist. Of course he’s racist. Look at him.”

Gay rights group GLAAD said Robertson’s comments were unacceptable.

“Phil and his family claim to be Christian, but Phil’s lies about an entire community fly in the face of what true Christians believe. He clearly knows nothing about gay people or the majority of Louisianans – and Americans – who support legal recognition for loving and committed gay and lesbian couples,” GLAAD spokesman Wilson Cruz said in a statement.

But that didn’t stop Glenn Beck on his radio program from offering to host “Duck Dynasty” on TheBlaze TV if A&E doesn’t keep the show.

63 Cleveland Cops Suspended After Unarmed Couple Is Shot At 137 Times

63 Cleveland Police Officers Suspended After An Unarmed Couple Was Shot At 137 Times – Business Insider

Cleveland officials are suspending 63 police officers for their roles in a November car chase that ended in the shooting deaths of an unarmed man and woman, The Plain Dealer reports.

.

Cleveland Police Chief Michael McGrath said the officers violated police protocol during the chase, according to the newspaper.

Officers’ offenses include engaging in a chase without permission and providing false information on police reports, the Plain Dealer reports. The officers will be suspended temporarily, with no one officer being suspended for more than 10 days.

Police officials have not yet reviewed the 13 officers who were involved in the shooting itself, but that’s coming in the next and final stage of the investigation, officials told The Plain Dealer. More than 100 officers had some involvement in the chase.

Malissa Williams, 30, and Timothy Russell, 43, were each shot about two dozen times in a police chase that turned deadly. They were shot at 137 times while in their car, which was parked in a middle school parking lot after the chase.

Police called it a “full blown-out” firefight. No officers were injured, and about 60 police vehicles pursued the suspects during the 25-minute chase.

The chase started when officers thought the suspects fired shots at them near Cleveland’s downtown Justice Center, but Williams and Russell turned out to be unarmed.

Officers might have thought the suspects were armed based on wrong information broadcast over the police radio, the Plain Dealer reported.

In June, one police supervisor was fired for his or her administrative role in the incident, and several others were demoted or disciplined, according to The Plain Dealer.

Congressman Wolf: CIA Employee Who Refused To Sign Non-Disclosure On Benghazi Massacre Suspended

Congressman: CIA Employee Who Refused To Sign Non-Disclosure On Benghazi Suspended – Washington Free Beacon

A CIA employee who refused to sign a non-disclosure agreement barring him from discussing the Sept. 11, 2012 terrorist attack in Benghazi, Libya, has been suspended as a result and forced to hire legal counsel, according to a top House lawmaker.

.

Rep. Frank Wolf (R., Va.) revealed at an event on Monday that his office was anonymously informed about the CIA employee, who is purportedly facing an internal backlash after refusing to sign a legal document barring him from publicly or privately discussing events surrounding the Benghazi attack.

The revelation comes about a month after several media outlets reported that CIA employees with knowledge of the terror attack had been forced to sign non-disclosure agreements (NDA) and submit to regular polygraph tests.

“The reports on the NDA are accurate. We’re getting people who call,” Wolf said Monday during an event marking the launch of the Citizens’ Commission on Benghazi, a panel of former military and intelligence officials who are investigating unanswered questions surrounding the Benghazi incident.

Wolf’s office first received the anonymous call earlier in the summer, soon after CNN and Fox News reported on the NDAs and polygraph tests.

The caller told Wolf’s staff that an unnamed CIA employee has been suspended after refusing to sign a Benghazi-related NDA.

“My office received a call from a man saying that he knew a CIA employee who has retained legal counsel because he has refused to sign an additional NDA regarding the Sept. 11, 2012, events in Benghazi,” Wolf said in Sept. 9 remarks at a panel discussion hosted by Judicial Watch.

“I called the law firm and spoke with CIA employee’s attorney who confirmed that her client is having an issue with the agency and the firm is trying to address it,” Wolf said. “Based on my past experiences with the CIA, which is headquartered in my congressional district, I am not at all confident that these efforts will be successful.”

The NDA agreements are meant to instill fear in employees and stop them from speaking “to the media or Congress,” Wolf said on Monday.

The CIA declined to comment directly on Wolf’s charges, but forwarded the Washington Free Beacon a letter sent to Congress from CIA Director John Brennan in which he denies charges that the agency has forced employees to sign NDAs and submit to polygraph tests.

“I want to assure you that I will not tolerate any effort to prevent our intelligence oversight committee from doing their jobs,” Brennan hand wrote at the bottom of the letter.

The CIA reiterated its denial in a Tuesday call to a Free Beacon reporter, calling Wolf’s allegations “categorically false.”

Monday’s Benghazi discussion came on the same day that House Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa (R., Calif.) released a report detailing multiple shortcomings in the State Department’s internal investigation into failures related to the Benghazi attack.

Issa says that the State Department “obstructed” congressional investigators, was “not comprehensive” in nature, “did not conduct thorough interviews,” and that more senior officials were not held to account.

“The ARB was not fully independent,” Issa said in a statement. “The panel did not exhaustively examine failures and it has led to an unacceptable lack of accountability.”

“While Ambassador [Thomas] Pickering and Admiral [Michael] Mullen have honorably served their country, the families of victims and the American people continue to wait for more conclusive answers about how our government left our own personnel so vulnerable and alone the night of the attack,” Issa said.

The newly formed Citizens’ Commission on Benghazi has similar goals as congressional investigators but is not confined by rules governing the legislative body, speakers at the event said.

Retired Air Force Col. Richard Brauer, cofounder of the group Special Operations Speaks, said the committee would aim to find out why U.S. military assets were ordered to “stand down” during the Benghazi attack.

“We’re tired of the lies and the cover-up that continues to this day,” Brauer said. “Who gave the order” to stand down, “to remain in place in Tripoli and the other locations and do nothing. When was this order given and why?”

“Forces were available on that very night, likely champing at the bit, but they were told to stand down,” he said. “These are words that will live in infamy.”

Traitor John Kerry Re-Instates Officials Suspended After Benghazi Attack

State Dept. Officials Suspended After Benghazi Back At Work – NewsMax

Four State Department officials suspended over the Benghazi terrorist outrage have been re-instated to their jobs just three weeks before the first anniversary of the attack.

.

The move comes as pressure mounts on House Speaker John Boehner to appoint a special committee to investigate the attack that killed U.S. Ambassador to Libya, Chris Stevens and three other Americans.

Secretary of State John Kerry decided the four, who were placed on administrative leave following last September’s massacre should return to work without any disciplinary action, The Daily Beast reported. His action effectively reverses the decision of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to suspend them.

Former Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Raymond Maxwell told the Daily Beast he had received a memo from the department’s human resources department telling him to report to work Tuesday.

“No explanation, no briefing, just come back to work,” he said.

The Daily Beast quoted an unidentified senior State Department official as saying the four would not face any further action. He said the administrative leave was not punishment but was to give Kerry’s team time to assess the situation following Clinton’s departure from the job in February.

An administrative review board headed by former State Department official Tom Pickering and former Joint Chiefs chairman Mike Mullen determined that termination was not warranted in any of the cases. Kerry agreed and decided that some would be reassigned but not fired.

“The four individuals are not blameless and the fact that they will not be returned to the same positions is relevant,” the Daily Beast reported.

The four officials were put on leave in December. At the time the State Department identified three of them as Maxwell who had responsibility for North Africa, Eric Boswell, assistant secretary of state for diplomatic security and Charlene Lamb, deputy assistant secretary responsible for embassy security. The fourth was not named officially, but numerous reports say it is another diplomatic security officer, Steve Bultrowicz.

The Pickering/-Mullen panel criticized the “lack of proactive leadership” saying security at the diplomatic compound in Benghazi was “grossly inadequate.”

Rep. Ed Royce of California, who took over the chair of the House Foreign Affairs Committee within weeks of the report, praised the decision at the time, “The board severely critiques a handful of individuals and they have been held accountable,” he told The New York Times. “The degree that others bear responsibility warrants Congressional review given the report’s rather sweeping indictment.”

The website Diplopundit said it is not clear what jobs the four would return to – especially as Boswell’s position has already been filled. “Putting these four back to work, of course, does not answer why they were put on paid admin leave in the first place,” the website said, adding, tongue in check, “But don’t worry. We are confident that the State Department’s spokesman will be able to explain this whole circus to the inquiring public by citing issues of employee confidentiality.”

The four men returned to Foggy Bottom on Tuesday morning just as pressure to appoint a special committee was growing.

A group of special forces veterans spent $5,800 to erect three massive billboards pressing home the point in Boehner’s Ohio district, The Hill reports.

Boehner has insisted repeatedly that the standing committees in Congress investigating the matter are sufficient and that there is no need for a special Benghazi committee. House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa has been leading one of the congressional investigations which began hearings in May.

The billboards, sponsored by Special Operations Speaks, aim to give more steam to a discharge petition circulated by Texas GOP Rep. Steve Stockman that would force Boehner to allow a floor vote on legislation crafted by Virginia GOP Rep. Frank Wolf calling for a select committee to investigate the attacks. The petition has already gathered signatures of 1,000 special-operations veterans .

The billboards feature photos of Boehner, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, and say, “If 4 Members of Congress were KILLED in Benghazi would we have a Watergate-style Select Committee today? Demand Justice for Benghazi.”

The group is also encouraging supporters to publicly pressure lawmakers during summer town hall meetings about whether they support the petition, according to The Hill.

Another group, Patriots4America is planning a Capitol Hill rally on Sept. 11, the first anniversary of the attack, The Hill reports, with speakers including former Nevada Senate candidate Sharron Angle,

8-Year-Old Boy Suspended For ‘Pop-Tart Pistol’ Receives NRA Lifetime Membership (Audio)

8-Year-Old Boy Suspended For ‘Pop-Tart Pistol’ Receives NRA Lifetime Membership – Daily Caller

.

NRA lifetime membership usually costs around $550, but all 8-year-old Joshua Welch had to do was get suspended from school for wielding a cherry Pop-Tart.

Two months after Welch was suspended from Park Elementary School in Maryland for nibbling a Pop-Tart into the shape of a gun, The National Riffle Association has granted the 7-year old boy a free lifetime membership.

The boy, then seven, was sent to the principal’s office where he was suspended from school for two days.

News of the boy’s suspension spread quickly.

“You’re doomed, America,” National Review’s Mark Steyn said on Rush Limbaugh’s radio show. “You’re done for.”

“No society can survive this level of stupidity,” Steyn said then. “The school counselor is available to meet with any students who are traumatized by hearing reports of some guy four grades below them who nibbles a Pop-Tart into a gun-like shape.”

.

.
Although the boy originally denied attempting to make his snack look like a weapon, he later admitted to CBS that the Pop-Tart did indeed look like a gun.

The elementary school student was granted the lifetime membership Wednesday night at an Anne Arundel County Republican Party political fundraiser.

After receiving the certificate, Welch reportedly returned to playing video games on his cell phone.

8th Grader Suspended, Arrested Over His NRA T-Shirt Returns To School… Wearing The Exact Same Shirt

Not Backing Down: 8th Grader Suspended, Arrested Over His NRA T-Shirt Returns To School… Wearing The Exact Same Shirt – The Blaze

Disciplined 8th-grader Jared Marcum returned to class on Monday after being suspended from school and arrested for refusing to change his NRA t-shirt at the request of one of his teachers. The shirt apparently pictured a firearm and the words “protect your rights.”

.

However, he apparently hasn’t learned his lesson – assuming that there was even any lesson to be learned. Fresh off his suspension, Marcum showed up to school on Monday wearing the exact same NRA shirt that sparked what many have labeled “t-shirt control.”

There were also other people wearing matching shirts in support of Marcum, WOWK-TV reports.

“There’s a lot of people wearing this same exact shirt, showing great, great support and I really appreciate it,” the student said Monday before going to school.

WOWK-TV has more:

Jared’s father, Allen Lardieri, says getting Jared back into school was his first priority.

We’ve completed the first leg of what we wanted to accomplish here,” Lardieri said. ”Now, we’re working on the next step, which is trying to clear his name.”

Lardieri says that he was informed by Logan City Police on Thursday that his son was facing two charges, obstructing an officer and disrupting the education process. However, Jared’s attorney Ben White says that wasn’t the police department’s call to make.

“He was arrested, he was put into handcuffs, he was removed from the school and brought to the Logan City Police Department,” White said. “Charges aren’t officially filed or brought until the prosecuting attorney’s signs off on them and they don’t do that willy nilly. They do that after a thorough investigation.”

That investigation is currently underway, according to authorities. Leading the investigation is juvenile prosecuting attorney Sabrina Deskins.

TheBlaze will monitor updates to this story.
