I have stated before that I would have, as president, a very distinct stance on using our military. I would add to Teddy Roosevelt’s “walk softly and carry a big stick” line. My addition would be, and when we use that stick, it will be in such devastating fashion that no one will ever think of attacking, or threatening us, or our allies again. I thought of this this morning after reading this at Weasel Zippers
SEOUL (Reuters) – North Korea threatened the United States on Thursday with a preemptive nuclear strike, raising the level of rhetoric while the U.N. Security Council considers new sanctions against the reclusive country.
North Korea has accused the United States of using military drills inSouth Korea as a launch pad for a nuclear war and has scrapped the armistice with Washington that ended hostilities in the 1950-53 Korean War.
North Korea, which has one major ally, neighboring China, threatens the United States and its “puppet”, South Korea, on an almost daily basis.
“Since the United States is about to ignite a nuclear war, we will be exercising our right to preemptive nuclear attack against the headquarters of the aggressor in order to protect our supreme interest,” the North’s foreign ministry spokesman said in a statement carried by the official KCNA news agency.
Now, I doubt the North Koreans could hit a bull in the ass with a handful of rice, but, this is a direct threat to both our nation and South Korea. So, what would I do in response? Well, North Korea has air bases, naval bases, and other military posts. I would, how should I put this, eliminate the biggest one they had. This would send them a message. That message would be, we erased your largest military post for simply threatening us, think what actually attacking us would cost you?
Is that over the top? Maybe, but, face it, having the biggest stick only matters if everyone else knows you will USE THAT STICK, and North Korea and other enemies do not believe we will use the stick we hold.
In the wake of the Newtown massacre, polls show the great majority of Americans are now insisting that the ability to live free from the fear or threat of gun violence is a fundamental democratic right – one that far supercedes any so-called personal gun rights allegedly contained in the Second Amendment.
In fact, the right-wing extremists opposing all efforts to curb gun violence are the same forces that rallied behind Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney, hoping to undermine every other democratic right as well as the living standards of workers and ordinary Americans. It is for that reason, as well as the need to protect public safety, that the same coalition of labor and its allies that worked so hard and effectively to re-elect President Barack Obama must now go all-out to back his common sense proposals for gun law reform.
As Obama has charged, the extremists recklessly “gin up fear” that the government is coming to take away hunting rifles and personal weapons owned for legitimate self-defense. Led by the hate-mongering leadership of the National Rifle Association, they use a totally fraudulent and only very recent interpretation of the Second Amendment which they falsely claim as necessary for protecting every other freedom contained in the Bill of Rights.
See there it is highlighted in RED. They favor collective rights and abhor individual rights, Natural Rights as Franklin called them. Let me put this as clearly as I can. Collectivists are evil. they seek to deny every American the rights they are Created with. They seek to place government, all-powerful, centralized government, in a position to give and take away rights as it sees fit. The Left seeks to replace the American ideal that our rights are from God, and that those rights CANNOT be restricted by or taken away by government. Understand the Left will lie cheat, and steal to achieve their nefarious ends. Their morality is not defined by religious faith, or by common respect for the rights of others. Their morality is defined only by achieving their ends. No matter the cost.
It is a question I hate asking, but, since this IS what I do, I have to ask it. Why do Obama, and his fellow DemocratsLiberalsLeftists want to disarm us, and yes, that is their ultimate goal, while they are arming the Muslim Brotherhood? Daniel Greenfield has an excellent piece up at FrontPageMag.com you need to read!
While the White House was busy drafting proposals to ban assault rifles, the last of the regulations imposed on Saudi travel to the United States after September 11 were being taken apart. While some government officials were busy planning how to disarm Americans, other officials were negotiating the transfer of F-16s and Abrams tanks to Muslim Brotherhood-run Egypt.
Obama is unwilling to trust Americans with an AR-15, but is willing to trust a genocidal terrorist group with Abrams tanks and F-16 jets. The F-16’s M61 Vulcan cannon can fire 6,000 rounds a minute and the 146 lb warhead of its HARM missiles can do a lot more than put a few dents in a brick wall. The Abrams’ 120 mm cannon can penetrate 26 inches of steel armor making it a good deal more formidable than even the wildest fantasies of San Francisco liberals about the capabilities of a so-called “assault rifle.”
While Obama has not been willing to respect the Constitution of the United States and its Bill of Rights, he was willing to arm a terrorist group whose motto is, “The Koran is our constitution, the Prophet is our leader, Jihad is our path and death in the name of Allah is our goal.” If a High School student wrote that on his Facebook page, he would be in police custody within the hour, but an international organization and national government that trades in such rhetoric gets devastating firepower from our government… free of charge.
In addition to giving the Hezbollah-run government of Lebanon two hundred M113 Armored Personnel Carriers, Obama deliberately turned a blind eye while Al Qaeda and other Islamist rebel groups in Libya received arms shipments from Qatar. Those weapons included a good deal more firepower than anything you can buy at Wal-Mart and later made their way to Mali and Syria. More weapons made their way into the hands of Hamas terrorists in Gaza. Whether any of these weapons were used in the assault on the Benghazi mission is unknown, but entirely possible.
Read the rest, it will sicken and outrage you. I leave you with this from Greenfield, it sums it up quite well
There is nothing in the Bill of Rights that says you cannot profile Muslim travelers in airports. To use the same argument as the gun controllers, airports and airplanes didn’t even exist during the time of the Founding Fathers; therefore they couldn’t have possibly foreseen their existence or applied any limitation to any violation of civil rights that can take place in them.
The murder of 3,000 people did not in any way make it acceptable to single out a Muslim for special attention, despite the laws of probability, logic and common sense. That would be an overreaction. It would mean punishing large numbers of people and that would be unacceptable, no matter how many lives it might save. But depriving millions of Americans of the protection of the 2ndAmendment after several shootings carried out by mentally ill teenagers is, for some reason, not an overreaction.
It’s not acceptable to single out the relatively small number of Muslims in the United States to save the lives of thousands, but it is imperative that we single out tens of millions of Americans to save a smaller number of people. The public safety logic of this does not hold up according to the numbers, the ethics or the law.
At a certain point folks, we have to decide if the Left in this country is this stupid, or if there is a deliberate purpose behind these actions
Of all the headlines that came out about Obama’s gun control Kabuki Theater today, THIS is the one that might make my skull collapse. Via Steve at MCT
Leader of Fast and Furious wants to study how guns get into hands of criminals
And he said it with a straight face folks! Of course, the media has pretty much blacked out Fast and Furious, like they blacked out Benghazi. And Obama’s radical ties, and his radical church, and so on and so on. They make such useful idiots for Obama!
Of course, they will also be told that global warming, or climate change is a theory, which it is, and urged to explore it themselves, in other words, to think. That has the Left outraged!School is not for thinking, or encouraging kids to evaluate anything. I mean you teach kids to think and the next thing you know, they are doing crazy things. Like thinking before voting.
Students in Nebraska are getting new standards for social studies curriculum, after weeks of intense debate. The state Board of Education reached agreement on two items of controversy this week: whether to include “American exceptionalism” and how to teach about climate change, the Lincoln Journal Star reports.
The fight had been over whether to explicitly teach the idea of American exceptionalism, as one board member proposed, and whether to include information about climate change, which the current standards do not mention. The board approved the standards after making some changes:
The words “American exceptionalism” do not appear in the final draft, but the concept does. In the sixth- through eighth-grade U.S. history standards, one of the “indicators” — examples of what to teach — is the “unique nature of the creation and organization of the American Government, the United States as an exceptional nation based upon personal freedom, the inherent nature of citizens’ rights and democratic ideals.”
This is what the Left hates apparentlyexamples of what to teach — is the “unique nature of the creation and organization of the American Government, the United States as an exceptional nation based upon personal freedom, the inherent nature of citizens’ rights and democratic ideals.”
In other words they are going to teach about the founding, the government, the, GASP, constitution, and that there is, brace yourself, liberty in America! Come on man! The Left is trying to turn out good little brain dead Marxists, and Nebraska schools might get in the way of that! Oh, but it gets worse for the Left.
Likewise, climate change appears in the sixth- through eighth-grade geography standards, but is presented as a theory, not as fact, asking students to evaluate “recent global climate change theories, and evidence that supports and refutes such theories.”
What? You cannot tell these kids that a theory is a theory! And instructing them to evaluate evidence on BOTH sides of the debate? OUTRAGEOUS! How dare Nebraska encourage open mindedness. I mean the Left has been trying to educate indoctrinate our kids for decades now. Stories like this scare them. Just peruse the comments at the link, the stupidity and hate will stun you
The University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill has removed the word “freshman” from official university documents, citing as their reason an attempt to adopt more “gender inclusive language.”
We are “committed to providing an inclusive and welcoming environment for all members of our community,” reads a statement administrators sent to Campus Reform on Wednesday.
“Consistent with that commitment, gender inclusive terms (chair; first year student; upper-level student, etc.) should be used on University Documents, websites and policies,” it continues.
How do such stupid, petty, childish people ever get in positions of authority? Somehow universities across the land have managed to survive using the term freshman, million of women have attended college, and been called freshman, but yet, these mental midgets think it is a problem somehow.
Moby, the electronic musician-vegan-animal rights activist-economic guru whose career peaked roughly ten years ago, has weighed in on the new jobs report.
With his unique blend of sophisticated intelligence and silver-tongued verbiage, Moby Tweeted:
“in 2008 the u.s was losing 250,000 jobs a month. in 2012 the u.s is adding 100,000 jobs a month. how, pray tell, is that not an improvement?
So, angry, delusional, and unmedicated republicans, where was your outrage when bush was president and u.s was losing 500k jobs a month? Hm?
i mean, simply: isn’t adding 100k jobs a month better than losing 500k jobs amonth, as was the case at the end of bush presidency?
rationally debating with republicans is like trying to teach a pig to sing. you wasteyour time and end up irritating the pig.”
What the intellectually challenged musician is too dumb to note is that we are not in a recession; we are supposedly in an economic recovery. There are so many people dropping out of the labor force (the labor participation rate is at a 31 year low) that if one used the labor participation rate from January 2009, unemployment would be close to 12 percent. Average wages actually declined in August.
And here’s something else for Moby to chew on: According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, back in January 2009 when Barack Obama was sworn in, there were 2.6 million people unemployed for more than 6 months. By June 2012, the ranks of the long-term jobless soared more than 100 percent to 5.3 million.
So, what Moby really is, besides a hateful little man, is a useful idiot who apparently gets his marching orders on what to say and thing straight from the Obama propaganda machine AKA MSNBS
Breitbart also points out that Moby is, in fact a Heteraphobe
Dance star MOBY has no time for overly-heterosexual males, insisting gay men are far superior to their straight counterparts. The heterosexual music-maker is so appalled by macho male culture he hopes his future children will be gay because “they are less likely to get into a fight and less likely to date rape people”. The PLAY hitmaker says, “I’m straight but I’ve grown up around gay people and gay clubs. They are superior to straight people. If you have a gay child you’re more inclined to be a prouder parent.”
Good Freaking Grief! Did this tool fall out of the Tree of Stupidity, hitting every branch on the way down?
Good grief he is a moron, absolutely no grasp of history, economics, or reality. I like the last quote from him. He says we do not need jobs, we need housing and food. Did it ever dawn on him that people with jobs can buy housing, and food? Or does he expect those things to come from government? Or from thin air?
Maybe he got such nonsense in his head from reading Noam Chomsky? Donald Douglas has a link to an interview with Benjamin Kerstein, who’s written a book on Chomsky who I give a lifetime Marxist Moron Award to
It’s an interview with Benjamin Kerstein, who’s written a book on Chomsky. And this is gold:
Michael Totten: Can you boil down your case against him into a couple of sentences or paragraphs?
Benjamin Kerstein: There are a couple of main points that should be made. First, Chomsky is an absolutely shameless liar. A master of the argument in bad faith. He will say anything in order to get people to believe him. Even worse, he will say anything in order to shut people up who disagree with him. And I’m not necessarily talking about his public critics. If you’ve ever seen how he acts with ordinary students who question what he says, it’s quite horrifying. He simply abuses them in a manner I can only describe as sadistic. That is, he clearly enjoys doing it. I don’t think anyone ought to be allowed to get away with that kind of behavior.
Second, Chomsky is immensely important to the radical left. When it comes to American foreign policy he isn’t just influential, he’s basically all they have. Almost any argument made about foreign affairs by the radical left can be traced back to him. That wasn’t the case when he started out back in the late ’60s, but it is now.
Third, he is essentially the last totalitarian. Despite his claims otherwise, he’s more or less the last survivor of a group of intellectuals who thought systemic political violence and totalitarian control were essentially good things. He babbles about human rights all the time, but when you look at the regimes and groups he’s supported, it’s a very bloody list indeed.
Communism and fascism are obviously dead as the proverbial doornail, but I doubt the totalitarian temptation will ever go away. The desire for unity and a kind of beautiful tyranny seems to spring from somewhere deep in the human psyche.
Fourth—and this may be most important—he makes people stupid. In this sense, he’s more like a cult leader or a New Age guru than an intellectual. He allows people to be comfortable with their prejudices and their hatreds, and he undercuts their ability to think in a critical manner. To an extent, this has to do with his use of emotional and moral blackmail. Since he portrays everyone who disagrees with him as evil, if you do agree with him you must be on the side of good and right. This is essentially a kind of secular puritanism, and it’s very appealing to many people, for obvious reasons, I think. We all want to think well of ourselves, whether we deserve it or not…
Well, that last part surely sounds like the young man in the video doesn’t it? That dopey kid is entirely comfortable with hating the “rich” and in demonizing them as well. He also seems comfortable in supporting governments like Somalia has. And certainly it would seem the young man has totally failed any attempt at critical thinking. He sounds like someone who has been brain washed and indoctrinated by the far Left. And we all know by now that thinking is the last thing the Left wishes anyone to do.
One more note about Chomsky. As Kerstein notes, Chomsky is a shameless liar, and, we are all aware of how many lies the Left spews every day. It is all part of their all means are justified by the ends philosophy. Consider this “story” the Left is telling about raaaaacism at the RNC via Gateway Pundit
The lib media claims two Republican delegates threw nuts at an African-American CNN camerawoman and called her names. So far there is no video, audio, or pictures even though the victim was running a camera. And far left crank David Shuster is the one who first reported the incident.
Two people were ejected from the Republican National Convention when they threw nuts at a black CNN camera woman and said “this is how we feed animals,” the network said Wednesday.
“CNN can confirm there was an incident directed at an employee inside the Tampa Bay Times Forum” on Tuesday, the opening day of a gala at which former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney will accept his party’s nomination to challenge President Barack Obama in November’s election.
“CNN worked with convention officials to address this matter and will have no further comment.”
Several witnesses observed the exchange, CNN reported, and convention security personnel immediately removed the two people from the forum.
The convention confirmed the incident in a statement late Tuesday.
“Two attendees tonight exhibited deplorable behavior. Their conduct was inexcusable and unacceptable. This kind of behavior will not be tolerated,” organizers said.
The incident is surely not what Republicans wanted 10 weeks out from the election. Romney has struggled to attract African American voters as well as Hispanics, and he is also on the wrong side of the gender gap, with polls consistently showing women voters preferring Obama to Romney.
Current TV journalist and talk radio host David Shuster first tweeted about the incident Tuesday night.
I will bet this either never happened, or was greatly exaggerated, or more likely, if it did happen, it was perpetrated by plants. No, not actual plants, but by Leftists who wanted to create a racial incident at the RNC that they could use to paint the GOP as racist. The Left is very adept at that type of thing. Besides, if this had gone down as described, it would have been caught on tape and would be the subject of media coverage!
Even more of the Left’s outrageous lies, and smears ala Chomsky at Camp of the Saints
From Timothy Carney of The Washington Examiner [who has been doing yeoman's work at the RNC — check out his Twitter feed here]:
…Jack Hitt at Harpers rolls out a Republicans-are-Racist charge that involves ignoring all the relevant facts.
[A]s a Puerto Rican party functionary—Zoraida Fonalledas, the chairwoman of the Committee on Permanent Organization—took her turn at the main-stage lectern. As she began speaking in her accented English, some in the crowd started shouting “U.S.A.! U.S.A.!”
The chanting carried on for nearly a minute while most of the other delegates and the media stood by in stunned silence. The Puerto Rican correspondent turned to me and asked, “Is this happening?” I said I honestly didn’t know what was happening—it was astonishing to see all the brittle work of narrative construction that is a modern political convention suddenly crack before our eyes. None of us could quite believe what we were seeing: A sea of twentysomething bowties and cowboy hats morphing into frat bros apparently shrieking over (or at) a Latina.
Hitt should have left it at “I honestly didn’t know what was happening.” And his editor should have read that line and decided not to publish the baseless insinuations.
Here’s what happened, Jack:
RNC Chairman Reince Preibus had called for a voice vote to approve the Credential Committee’s report. Ron Paul delegates objected, because the committee had refused to seat half of the Paul delegates. When the voice vote came, the “Noes” clearly were louder than the “Ayes.” (Ron Paul backers are pretty good at shouting.) Preibus ruled that the Ayes had won, and then he ignored many yells of “Point of Order.”
The Paulites began chanting “Point of Order,” trying to stop the proceedings so they could have a roll-call vote or even a debate. They also chanted “Seat Maine Now,” in this period.
Some Romney backers from delegations near Maine responded – for better or worse – by chanting “U.S.A.! U.S.A.!” over the Paulites’ chants.
Preibus, meanwhile, was just trying to steamroll ahead, and so he brought on Puerto Rican Republican Zoraida Fonalledas, who tried to speak over the parliamentary objections of the Paulites – and thus over the “U.S.A.!” chants of the Romney backers.
From this brouhaha, Harpers’ Jack Hitt concludes it was probably a bunch of racist Republicans shouting U.S.A. at a woman with a Hispanic accent. Seven hours later Hitt added a footnote citing BuzzFeed’s Zeke Miller explaining what actually happened.
Miller’s reporting so thoroughly debunks what Hitt wrote that I would have expected Hitt to retract it. But when it comes to charging Republicans with racism, the standards are different, I guess.
Tuesday night after rising GOP star Mia Love brought down the house with her inspiring convention speech, the stomach-turning Left labeled the black conservative a “token” and an “Aunt Tom.”
Meanwhile, revoltingly racist, woman-hating Wikipedia vandals were hard at work updating her entry with disgusting slurs like “House Nigger” and “dirty, worthless whore.” The page called her a “total sell-out to the Right Wing Hate machine and the greedy bigots who control the GOP.”
Remember one thing about the Left my friends. It is the MOST important thing TO understand about them. They are not governed by any normal moral compass, so they can justify any action to themselves. The only “morality” they see is the ultimate destruction of individual liberty, and the implementation on their Utopian Collectivist Society.
If I told you Jason Alexander went on a Tea Party/Conservative bashing tirade you would say WHO? But is I say that George Costanza went on a Twitter tirade you would say, OH, that guy! Read what he wrote, THEN listen to my response!
I’d like to preface this long tweet by saying that my passion comes from my deepest sympathy and shared sorrow with yesterday’s victims and with the utmost respect for the people and the police/fire/medical/political forces of Aurora and all who seek to comfort and aid these victims.
This morning, I made a comment about how I do not understand people who support public ownership of assault style weapons like the AR-15 used in the Colorado massacre.
That comment, has of course, inspired a lot of feedback. There have been many tweets of agreement and sympathy but many, many more that have been challenging at the least, hostile and vitriolic at the worst.
Clearly, the angry, threatened and threatening, hostile comments are coming from gun owners and gun advocates. Despite these massacres recurring and despite the 100,000 Americans that die every year due to domestic gun violence – these people see no value to even considering some kind of control as to what kinds of weapons are put in civilian hands.
Many of them cite patriotism as their reason – true patriots support the Constitution adamantly and wholly. Constitution says citizens have the right to bear arms in order to maintain organized militias. [...]
These people believe that the US government is eventually going to go street by street and enslave our citizens. Now as long as that is only happening to liberals, homosexuals and democrats – no problem. But if they try it with anyone else – it’s going to be arms-ageddon and these committed, God-fearing, brave souls will then use their military-esque arsenal to show the forces of our corrupt government whats-what. These people think they meet the definition of a “militia”. They don’t. At least not the constitutional one. And, if it should actually come to such an unthinkable reality, these people believe they would win. That’s why they have to “take our country back”. From who? From anyone who doesn’t think like them or see the world like them. They hold the only truth, everyone else is dangerous. Ever meet a terrorist that doesn’t believe that? Just asking.
OK folks, time to take Georgie to the woodshed, I have had more than my fill of Constitutionally ignorant buffoons calling Conservatives “terrorists” So click the pic to listen
Via Donald Douglas comes this video that absolutely defines how vacuous the Left is. This is truly all they have they are completely devoid of reason. The Left is now no more than a caricature frankly. Bob Herbert babbles on and on, tossing race cards left and right while offering NOTHING even resembling proof of his vile accusations. And check out Maddow who apparently does not understand the definition of foreign, as Romney uses it in the clips she plays. It is quite apparent, to anyone not wearing a tin foil MSNBS hat that is, that Romney is talking about Obama’s policies being foreign to America. And they are foreign to us. So, go watch the clip and witness how pathetic the Left really is.
“This guy has done everything right, he’s raised his kids right, he fought his way all the way to the top of the Harvard Law Review, blind test becomes head of the Review, everything he’s done is clean as a whistle, he’s never broken any law, he’s never done anything wrong, he’s the perfect father, the perfect husband, the perfect American and all they do is trash the guy. It’s impossible for me to believe they would have said the same things about Walter Mondale or Jimmy Carter or Bill Clinton, there’s an ethnic piece to this but it’s hard to nail it down because they cover it in ideology.”
Of course, Matthews and his guests blame RAAAAACISM. But not just RAAAAACISM, but RAAAAACISM disguised as ideology. these folks are loons, 100% crazy! They blast Romney for saying that Obama’s ideology is foreign to American principles, which it is, yet, they ignore Team Obama calling Romney a felon! MSNBS has no value now, well except for a good laugh. You can watch the full clip here, since Lockerz worthless “Grab it” button is not working AGAIN!
“There are a lot of wealthy, successful Americans who agree with me — because they want to give something back. They know they didn’t — look, if you’ve been successful, you didn’t get there on your own. You didn’t get there on your own. I’m always struck by people who think, well, it must be because I was just so smart. There are a lot of smart people out there. It must be because I worked harder than everybody else. Let me tell you something — there are a whole bunch of hardworking people out there.
If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help. There was a great teacher somewhere in your life. Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If you’ve got a business — you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen.
The closest this buffoon come stop anything close to a rational statement is this sentence here “Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive.”
Yes. Yes, Yes! We have an incredible system that allows for small government, which in turn allows people the opportunity to achieve success. It is that very system that Obama has been trying to cripple for going on years now. The system he mentions is one he despises. The rest of the statement above is nothing more than class warfare. The same old BS.
Four years ago, Obama ran a campaign of lies and deceit. He pretended to be something he clearly is not. Now, he has to run on what he is, and the result is his mask is lifted a bit more with every speech. And the fact is that Americans are not liking the face of Leftism they see.
Is this the best they can do, Chris Matthews and his ilk? They are really going with Mitt is weird?
CHRIS MATTHEWS, HOST: Let’s go into the code, the intangibles again about Romney. He has come off in the early part of this campaign as a bit odd in different ways. His sense of humor is definitely somewhere out there for most people. Politico, your organization, has written in the past that there’s a sense of him being weird, and that can be played upon and may tangentially catch on to his religion as well as part of the weirdness about the guy. He comes from a different background from us, from other people. How do you think it’s going to play, John Harris?
JOHN HARRIS, POLITICO: I don’t think Romney is weird, but he has lived a life that is removed from the experiences and the sort of outlook of many Americans. It’s been removed because of his wealth, because of his career orientation, but also because of his religion.
MATTHEWS: Well, for example, let me give you an example of weird. When you think it’s a funny joke that somebody has grabbed your tush from behind and you go jumping out as if somebody’s done that. Is that humor that strikes you as like 70 years old?
Go read the rest, it is pathetic! Of course, if they were a real news source they would be reporting on something important, like this
Every single state that elected a Republican governor in 2010 saw their unemployment rate drop. FOX Nation reported:
In 2010, influenced by the Tea Party and its focus on fiscal issues, 17 states elected Republican governors. And, according to an Examiner.com analysis, every one of those states saw a drop in their unemployment rates since January of 2011. Furthermore, the average drop in the unemployment rate in these states was 1.35%, compared to the national decline of .9%, which means, according to the analysis, that the job market in these Republican states is improving 50% faster than the national rate. Since January of 2011, here is how much the unemployment rate declined in each of the 17 states that elected Republican governors in 2010, according to the Examiner:
Kansas – 6.9% to 6.1% = a decline of 0.8%
Maine – 8.0% to 7.4% = a decline of 0.6%
Michigan – 10.9% to 8.5% = a decline of 2.4%
New Mexico – 7.7% to 6.7% = a decline of 1.0%
Oklahoma – 6.2% to 4.8% = a decline of 1.4%
Pennsylvania – 8.0% to 7.4% = a decline of 0.6%
Tennessee – 9.5% to 7.9% = a decline of 1.6%
Wisconsin – 7.7% to 6.8% = a decline of 0.9%
Wyoming – 6.3% to 5.2% = a decline of 1.1%
Alabama – 9.3% to 7.4% = a decline of 1.9%
Georgia – 10.1% to 8.9% = a decline of 1.2%
South Carolina – 10.6% to 9.1% = a decline of 1.5%
South Dakota – 5.0% to 4.3% = a decline of 0.7%
Florida – 10.9% to 8.6% = a decline of 2.3%
Nevada – 13.8% to 11.6% = a decline of 2.2%
Iowa – 6.1% to 5.1% = a decline of 1.0%
Ohio – 9.0% to 7.3% = a decline of 1.7%
Hmmm, think that might be more than a coincidence? No wonder the walk behinders and brown-nosers at MSNBS are willing to report ANYTHING, except the economy of course
On Rush Limbaugh’s Thursday program, George Mason University professor Walter E. Williams outlined the case that states can nullify Obamacare, citing Thomas Jefferson’s 1789 Kentucky Resolution, which was a claim that the U. S. Constitution is a compact among the several states, and any power not delegated to the U.S. government is void.
“I think the American citizens ought to press their state governors and legislatures just to nullify the law — just to plain nullify it and say, ‘The citizens of such-and-such-a state don’t have to obey Obamacare because it’s unconstitutional, regardless of what the Supreme Court says,’” Williams said.
Williams cited Marbury v. Madison, which said “all laws which are repugnant to the Constitution are null and void” to further the case for nullification from the states.
Nullification is a doctrine introduced in the infancy of the United States and was what some have suggested led to the Civil War. As far as the legal precedent of nullification and how it led to the Civil War, Williams said he doubted the repercussions would as serious as they were in 1861.
“I think two things are different this time,” he said. “First, most Americans are against Obamacare. And secondly, I don’t believe — and you call me up and tell me if I’m wrong about this — I don’t believe that you could find a United States soldier who would follow a presidential order to descend on a state to round up or shoot fellow Americans because they refuse to follow a congressional order to buy health insurance.”
Simple! BECAUSE THEY DO! Consider the Stalinist tirade by MSNBS’ resident whiner Toure who seemingly wants Obama to dictate every decision we make
In a clip that Mediaite described as “[descending] into self-parody,” MSNBC’s Touré said on The Cycle Monday that the government has a responsibility to “lead” the country into the future– whether the people are ready for it or not.
After likening “We the People” to “petulant children” who sometimes need to be dragged “[kicking] and [screaming],” the MSNBC host declared:
“Perhaps if there’s a second term for Obama after health care is enacted and people see it working well and get used to it, he’ll float to a new level of power.
“Maybe he’ll go even further trying to bolster his legacy by enacting new paternalistic mandates meant to make the nation better. Saying all Americans must vote, because government works better when all participate in selecting leaders.
Eat your vegetables!
Maybe mandate that all citizens must go to some sort of post-high school college — maybe liberal arts, maybe technical — because America works better when we are better educated and trained.
Eat your vegetables!
How about a mandate of a year or two of public service after college?”
“…Mandate extensive premarital counseling and maybe even a review board that can determine whether or not a couple can get married, and pre-divorce counseling to try and save marriages, because teaching relationship skills is critical to building strong nuclear families.”
This is textbook Statism, and there are two types of Leftists who spew such things. The perpetual child, who wants the government to be their mommy and daddy. Then there is the pure Statist, that loathes people to the point of wanting them enslaved to government. Toure is likely the second type. He sees himself as an elite, well above the commoners. He is on one hand arrogant enough to consider himself an elite, and on the other hand, stupid enough to believe the government would leave HIS free will intact. Sad, Toure, sad stupid AND arrogant is no way to go through life, but, apparently it IS a great way to get a gig on the cesspool that MSNBS is.
I am what you might call angry, and so are many others. and here are some of their reactions.
Zion’s Trumpet links Ed’s post, and offers his own take
Also keep in mind that all this happened back when the GOP still had a shot at getting Obama’s health care monstrosity overruled by our nation’s highest court. Since that option is no longer on the table, we the people have no alternative but to rid our federal government of every parasitic leftist we possibly can, even if that means replacing some of them with – shall we say – less than hard-right Republicans. To do otherwise is to commit national suicide, and even some Ron Paul supporters are now beginning to recognize that fact.
Mitt – if I may be so bold as to address you by your nickname – all you have to do to win the White House at this point is refrain from saying anything truly stupid or offensive to conservatives, stick to the topics of the economy and ObamaCare, and try to pick a running mate who isn’t as big a RINO as you are. Might I suggest Marco Rubio… or Allen West?
As for you, Barack, you’re political death warrant has just been signed, sealed and delivered by five smarmy, activist lawyers in black robes, and the genuinely comical thing is that you’re too dumb to realize it. While I’m sure the Jurassic press will join you in declaring victory today, I’m equally as certain that the real victors in all this will be the people of this country once they throw your sorry butt out of office and begin the process of retaking their liberties from a degenerate and dictatorial federal government.
Chris at Wyblog warns that we better start saving up for that mandate, oh, sorry Mr. Roberts TAX that makes us buy a Volt!
The government is our master. We The People are powerless before it.
The Constitution means nothing. Limited government? Fuggedaboudit.
Someone needs to dig up Thomas Jefferson and have him beat Chief Justice Roberts over the head with the Declaration of Independence. Repeatedly.
Not that it would do any good. The damage is done.
The Obamacare abomination survives. Every American is compelled by the force of law to purchase health insurance. Because the individual mandate is in actuality a tax.
Welcome to the United States of Greece. Where our Socialist Overlords have big plans for us serfs. It’s been said that the power to tax is the power to destroy.
Liberty was destroyed today. We’ll probably never get it back.
UPDATE 28 Jun 2012 11:39: The more I think about it, the madder I get.
Even if Obamacare gets repealed a terrible precedent has been set. Congress can tax our behavior. Get too fat? Pay the Obesity Tax. Don’t buy that Chevy Volt? Pay the Fossil Fuel Waster Tax. Homeschool your kids? Pay the Support Your Local Teachers Union Tax.
Nanny-state busybodies like Mike Bloomberg are having an orgasm right now.
Milton Wolf warned us yesterday that, in the end, we would have to kill this beast legislatively, hewas right
Weasel Zippers reminds us that Romney lists job one as “Repeal Obamacare”
It’s the judiciary’s Nixon-to-China: Chief Justice John Roberts joins the liberal wing of the Supreme Court and upholds the constitutionality of Obamacare. How? By pulling off one of the great constitutional finesses of all time. He managed to uphold the central conservative argument against Obamacare, while at the same time finding a narrow definitional dodge to uphold the law — and thus prevented the court from being seen as having overturned, presumably on political grounds, the signature legislation of this administration.
Why did he do it? Because he carries two identities. Jurisprudentially, he is a constitutional conservative. Institutionally, he is chief justice and sees himself as uniquely entrusted with the custodianship of the court’s legitimacy, reputation and stature.
Go read it all, I think Krauthammer is exactly right, but I disagree on one point. Roberts has, in my view, discredited ANY standing he had as a constitutional conservative. He placed his principles and his duty on the back burner to help the “image” of the Court? If so, then he has forgotten what duty is, and is a disgrace!
The Federal Government does not have the power to order people to buy health insurance. Section 5000A would therefore be unconstitutional if read as a command. The Federal Government does have the power to impose a tax on those without health insurance. Section 5000A is therefore constitutional, because it can reasonably be read as a tax.
I won’t have to unpack that for longtime readers of this site, but do allow me to unpack it — as I’ve done with similar linguistically incoherent statements in the past — for those who will spend today bemoaning a ruling that, when viewed from their own intepretative perspective (rather than their policy desires), they can’t honestly fault.
To wit: “Section 5000A is therefore constitutional, because it can reasonably be read as a tax.”
Fine. How is this the case? Because, per Roberts, the mandate looks something like a tax might look and could look — much in the way a cloud formation may look like a randy sheep three way, if you’re inclined to see it that way. But unless you believe God or Nature intended to paint a sheep orgy in the gas and water vapor floating above Peoria, the clouds aren’t actually a sheep orgy save your intent to see it as such.
Intentionalism just is.
But, you argue, it clearly wasn’t intended as a tax (or if it was, there’s no way of ever knowing that, given that it was presented as a penalty and not a tax) — because the President publicly denied that it was a tax, and it was passed expressly as a penalty. Therefore, it was signified into being — at the point of passage — as a penalty. And a penalty is not a tax.
Or is it?
Intentionalism just is.
According to the CJ, a penalty is indeed a tax when it can be viewed as a tax for purposes of a ruling. Meaning, a penalty is a tax when a Justice decides to rewrite the law to turn a penalty into a tax. Which he justifies because the way the penalty looks to him suggests that “reasonable” people (or philosopher kings) can, if they squint — and if they ignore the intent that turned the law into law in the first place, and turned a set of marks into a set of signs, into language — see a tax. How that is “reasonable” is anyone’s guess: we know in no uncertain terms that Obama and the Dems who passed the law didn’t devise the mandate as a tax (despite what they later argued); for one to conclude that it is reasonably possible to “read” a penalty as a tax, therefore, what c0mes to count as “reasonable” must be redefined as “ignoring what we know to be true”. And that seems antithetical to “reason.”
Having gone through the opinion, I am not going to beat up on John Roberts. I am disappointed, but I want to make a few points.
First, I get the strong sense from a few anecdotal stories about Roberts over the past few months and the way he has written this opinion that he very, very much was concerned about keeping the Supreme Court above the partisan fray and damaging the reputation of the Court long term. It seems to me the left was smart to make a full frontal assault on the Court as it persuaded Roberts.
Good Freaking Grief! Tell me Erickson is not this stupid. If Roberts was swayed by public opinion, or by what he perceived MIGHT be a negative spin the certain people, then he is unfit for the highest court! He is there to rule on the CONSTITUTIONALITY of laws, not make his decisions to impress anyone!
Second, in writing his case, Roberts forces everyone to deal with the issue as a political, not a legal issue.
Oh, so the constitutionality of a law is “political” now, and not legal? Good Lord who is this buffoon posing as Erickson? I am with BC on this
What is sad is that a conservative republican blogger is dumb enough put this stupidity out for review — and think he making an intelligent point.
The reality is that John Roberts have just given his stamp of approval on the biggest governmental encroachment on American liberty in our country’s history. This is not just about the individual mandate.
The supreme court has just set a legal precedent saying that it is okay for the federal government to force you to buy a service and penalize you if you don’t.
Now, thanks to John Roberts, if they decide it is in your best interest to buy a workout machine, a house alarm system, a book, a Communist government indoctrination video — or anything else for that matter — they can do it and it will be simple labeled as a tax.
Someone needs to tell this fat bastard to think, or to shut up!
Dear Erick, your head called, it is stuck in your ass, sorry, but I am done having patience for these “thoughtful” Republicans who excuse cowards like Roberts!
“Ted can now rest. He’s finally f*#%ed everybody in the country.”
Actually, stamping Ted Kennedy’s name on what will eventually amount to a massive tax increase for increasing numbers of Americans as companies dump out of insuring their employees privately isn’t entirely inappropriate.
Maybe Ted’s been reincarnated. If John Roberts is spotted drinking Chivas tonight and chasing tail at Au Bar it’ll be confirmed.
I might be updating later, so please check back. I do hope this fires everyone up, and keeps them that way. REMEMBER in NOVEMBER!
Is there any doubt that MSNBS is the worst news organization in the history of news? Consider this nugget
There’s some good news behind the discouraging headlines on the economy: Gas is getting cheaper. At least two states had stations selling gas for $2.99 on Friday and it could fall below $3 in more areas over the weekend.
A plunge in oil prices has knocked more than 30 cents off the price of a gallon of gas in most parts of the U.S. since early April. The national average is now $3.61. Experts predict further decline in the next few weeks.
See, it is WONDERFULLY WONDERFUL! But……
The downside? Lower oil and gas prices are symptoms of weakening economic conditions in the U.S. and around the globe.
On Friday, oil prices plunged nearly 4 percent as a bleak report on U.S. job growth heightened worries about a slowing global economy and waning oil demand. The unemployment rate rose to 8.2 percent from 8.1 percent. Sobering economic news from China and Europe also contributed to the drop.
Ah, yes, REALITY!, The most important part of the story is not lower gas prices, it is the weakening economy. Does anyone think that MSNBS would have done a similar headline if Bush were president? Or any Republican were president for that matter? There would have been no “silver lining”, just bad economic news.
