Stacy McCain, ponders the insanity levels of Cindy Sheehan, and Glen Greenwald and concludes that crazy is crazy, even when it is dressed up as “nuanced”.
“Whenever America uses violence in a way that makes its citizens cheer, beam with nationalistic pride, and rally around their leader, more violence is typically guaranteed. Futile decade-long wars in Iraq and Afghanistan may temporarily dampen the nationalistic enthusiasm for war, but two shots to the head of Osama bin Laden — and the We are Great and Good proclamations it engenders — can easily rejuvenate that war love. . . . Americans are marching in the street celebrating with a sense of national pride. When is the last time that happened? It seems telling that hunting someone down and killing them is one of the few things that still produce these feelings of nationalistic unity.”
– Glenn Greenwald
“I am sorry, but if you believe the newest death of OBL, you’re stupid. Just think to yourself — they paraded Saddam’s dead sons around to prove they were dead — why do you suppose they hastily buried this version of OBL at sea? This lying, murderous Empire can only exist with your brainwashed consent — just put your flags away and THINK!”
– Cindy Sheehan
Yep, Cindy is easily recognized as a fanatic, ranting like a demented soul who has left Planet Lucid on her private Rocket of Craziness, Greenwald, dresses his mental shortcomings up nicely. He sounds well-informed, even scholarly, but, as Stacy opines, he is still a sandwich or two short of a picnic.
Let’s begin by acknowledging that these are two different kinds of crazy. But people who find Cindy Sheehan’s crackpot paranoia risible might not see why Greenwald’s “nuanced” anti-Americanism is almost equally demented.
Now, while I might concede that Sheehan is a tad crazy, I also see her as incredibly stupid, as one must be to embrace the ideals of Leftism. Yes, I know, the definition of insane is doing the same thing over and over while expecting different results. Certainly, Leftists ought to be rational enough to read history and understand that Marxism, of which Leftism, and to a slightly smaller degree Liberalism, are but bastard children. But, I see two lost souls here, stuck in what I refer to as The Pit of Eternal Leftist Stupidity.
Stacy McCain exposes Greenwald’s words for what they are, a deep-seated loathing of America
No, what disturbs me particularly about Greenwald’s argument is that he doesn’t view every “sense of national pride” as dangerous, but only American national pride. Cubans or Canadians, Chechens or Chinese, Poles or Palestinians – all other peoples can cherish their national identity without stirring any Greenwaldian concern. But let Americans express satisfaction that their military has vanquished a sworn enemy, and this frets Greenwald to no end. His fear and loathing of American nationalism is so great as to produce its mirror-reverse.
Yep, you have to be a bit nutty to share Greenwald’s views, But you have to be truly stupid as well. I recall a few years ago, telling a co-worker that if every nation on earth shared the common values of America, and had a similar constitution, and a similar government, that the world would be far more peaceful, prosperous and happy. Their Liberal mind was stunned, they could not believe how “unenlightened” I was. They opined that it was America, somehow, that was responsible for famines, wars, terrorism, dictators, and human suffering across much of the globe.
Now, this person was a believer in the pursuit of “social justice” AKA Communism. And, as I tried to convince them of the inherent goodness in this country and its people, the more agitated they became. No matter how many examples I gave of American generosity, and charitable acts, she still blasted the USA as “imperialistic”. No matter how many examples of America honoring the human rights that she claimed to cherish, she still said we were guilty of gross human rights violations. She was, I soon opined, either crazy, or just plain stupid.
I think I will just stick with my diagnosis of Incurable Leftist Stupidity, for her, and for Greenwald, and for all the “elites” that share Greenwald’s inability to see the obvious. As for Sheehan, I think Stacy McCain is right, that is one crazy woman.
Speaking of Crazy!
