Awww poor special sunflowers, they are sooooo sensitive
Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine launched an investigation into an “act of ethnic stereotyping” after a group of students allegedly hosted a racially charged party over the weekend.
Dean of Students Tim Foster sent out a campus-wide email on Feb. 22 informing students that he is working with the president of the university to address the situation.
“It has come to my attention that an act of ethnic stereotyping may have occurred at the College over the weekend,” he wrote. “I have spoken with President Rose about this, and my office is in the process of investigating what we have learned from students and from posts on social media.”
The incident that allegedly sparked the outrage was a tequila themed birthday party that some students took as offensive to Hispanic students. The party, according to a copy of the invitation, was hosted by several female students at Bowdoin for one of their friends.
The invitation took care to point out that the event was not to be considered a fiesta but was simply encouraging students to bring tequila to the event. However, several photos of students wearing sombreros at the party surfaced on social media.
Oh no, God no, not, not tiny sombreros, anything but that
As a result, the Bowdoin Student Government (BSG) voted unanimously to issue a “statement of solidarity” as well as a resolution to “stand by all students who were affected by the ‘tequila’ party that occurred on 20 February 2016.”
Are they serious? Well this is the Left, so of course they are serious
The statement of solidarity calls the tequila party an “unacceptable” event that “will not and should not be tolerated by the Bowdoin community.”
“This act of cultural appropriation is offensive for the previously stated reasons, is disrespectful, creates an environment where students of color, particularly Latino, and especially Mexican, students feel unsafe, and contradicts our goal to refine the education of students in an inclusive residential community,” it continues.
So a tequilla party, with tiny sombreros, makes, Mexican Latinos of color feel “unsafe” and is not INCLUSIVE! How will these poor little babies ever survive? Oh, I know they need
safe supportive spaces
BSG also issued a corresponding resolution demanding the university create a “supportive space” for students who feel targeted by the party.
The resolution states that “the administration must make clear to students, well in advance, their commitment to creating a supportive space for students who have been or feel targeted, for as long as students deem necessary.”
Hmmm, how long, I wonder, does it take to get over the trauma of knowing that some college students were drinking tequilla while wearing, again, tiny sombreros. The horrors!
Of course, these students likely got off easy, at least they were not forced to face a, brace yourselves, a snow penis!
Yes, a snow penis, which thankfully was not drinking tequilla OR wearing a little sombrero has brought great anxiety to the University of Michigan
The University of Michigan continued to struggle with its official position on sexuality, snow and freedom of expression when a Hall Director reported a giant snow penis as a bias incident.
The confluence of these three much-discussed topics was too much to go undocumented. The phallic creation in question appeared outside of the Bursley residence hall on North Campus following the snow storm that blanketed Ann Arbor earlier in the day.
Bias-incidents, according to the Student Life Website, are “incidents that make people feel targeted because of their social identity group membership.” Based on this definition, it is unclear if the bias incident report was generated because of the perceived white male privilege displayed by the pearly member rising out up from the ground or because of inadequate sex representation as no efforts had been made to create a snow vagina.
It is also possible that the white penis was targeted symbolically, as the university was unable to prevent Milo Yiannopoulos’ visit to the school the evening before. Either way, the snowy creation was deemed something that needed to be taken “very seriously” by the university community.
According to Student Life, “after a bias incident occurs, staff focus on rebuilding trust in the community, restoring relationships, repairing harm, and fostering healthy communication.”
Rebuilding trust? It is a freaking snow penis! Thank goodness these miscreants never saw Porkys
Here is an idea, the aggrieved students should take the following steps. Grow up! Get over it! Stop whining! Accept that they cannot control everyone else’s behavior! And oh yeah, the college should never coddle these little Statists. The response these little whiners deserve when they complain about some imagined offense is a simple statement. You are offended? So what?
