Looks as if the Cultural Stalinists were in Austin recently, erasing history and demonizing Southerners
The University of Texas has quietly removed an inscription honoring the Confederacy and Southern pride from the South Mall nearly a year after UT President Gregory L. Fenves said that the inscription “will remain in place.”
Fenves told the American-Statesman this week that he decided this spring that the inscription had to go. The inscription is dedicated to “the men and women of the Confederacy who fought with valor and suffered with fortitude that states rights be maintained” and who were “not dismayed by defeat nor discouraged by misrule.” It makes no mention of slavery.
“It is inappropriate for our goal of diversity and inclusion on campus,” Fenves said.
Once again, the Left tends to redefine words to suit their own purposes. “Fair” to them means taxing people at different rates for example. “Sensitivity” means showing utter scorn and hate for anyone who views issues differently than the Left. “Free speech”? Well that is now defined as only speech the Left approves of. “Racism” means anything a Conservative says, police enforcing laws, and apparently being indifferent to race, and being White. “Rape” means a Feminist changing her mind AFTER having consensual sex it seems, and “inclusive” is now defined as totally exclusionary of some cultures. “Tolerance” is now defined as a complete hatred and intolerance towards anyone who dares think differently.
Take the monument that was removed “cleansed” at the University of Texas. In an inclusive, tolerant environment it would stand forever. People might discuss and debate the meaning of it, but no person genuinely invested in inclusiveness would ever seek to have it removed.
There is nothing inclusive about removing the monument. In fact nothing could be more abrasive to open dialogue, or to learning history. The Left, however, is simply giddy because they have once again put division in front of true inclusion
“I think it is great news that the university has taken a positive step to make the university more welcoming to African-American students,” said Gary Bledsoe, president of the Texas NAACP. “Such inscriptions and displays are psychologically and emotionally harmful to many citizens, and they inhibit the university’s efforts to be widely considered to be a top international institution.”
Ah, more welcoming he says. How so? How is it welcoming, or beneficial to erase part of history? And at an institute oh higher learning no less. How will anyone learn anything by hiding history? As I said earlier, let people debate the War Between the States, it’s meaning, causes, heroes, villains, etc. That is positive, that enriches people’s minds and understandings. But, again, that is not on the Left’s agenda. That open dialogue the Left always encourages? They will never allow such a thing to happen. They will not because it is not a unifying, or breaking down of barriers they seek. Rather they seek to plant the seeds of discontent, resentment, and division because it benefits their end goals.
