Putin Announces Syrian Ceasefire Deal, Ready To Start Peace Talks; Obama Snubbed Again – Zero Hedge

Yesterday we reported that, in what was the latest “PR fiasco” for the outgoing Obama administration, Turkey and Russia sat down, and appeared on the edge of hammering out a ceasefire plan for Syria between the two nations – something which the UN has been unable to achieve for years – in a deal which would not include the United States and be distinct from separate intermittent U.N.-brokered negotiations, which have so far failed to end the fighting in the proxy Syria war.

Then moments ago, Russian President Vladimir Putin confirmed an agreement has been reached on ceasefire in Syria and the start of peace talks.

Quoted by AP, Putin said that Russia and Turkey will guarantee the truce, which is set to begin at midnight. He says it will be followed by peace talks between Syrian President Bashar Assad’s government and the opposition, and that the Syrian parties would take part in talks to be held in Kazakhstan, without specifying a date.

Syria’s military confirmed that it had agreed to a nationwide cease-fire starting at midnight.

Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu says the truce will include 62,000 opposition fighters across Syria, and that the Russian military has established a hotline with its Turkish counterpart to monitor compliance.

Leaving an olive branch for the new US administration, if not for Obama, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov says that that President-elect Donald Trump’s administration will be welcome to join the Syrian peace process once he takes office…

Food Stamp Fraud At All-Time High As $70M Is Wasted In 2016 – Fox News
.

.
Food stamp fraud is at an all-time high, with cases this year including a state lawmaker and even a millionaire.

According to the USDA, $70 million of taxpayer money was wasted in 2016 due to food stamp fraud.

On “Fox & Friends” Tuesday, Abby Huntsman discussed the issue with New York City Councilman Joe Borelli and 2008 Clinton campaign adviser Jehmu Greene.

“The SNAP program has been ripe with problems almost since its inception,” said Borelli, who argued that the program’s costs are out of control.

Borelli mentioned a House Committee on Agriculture report that talks about a number of ways to determine new criteria for people to qualify for food stamps.

Greene noted that 45 percent of food stamp recipients are under the age of 18 and another nine percent are over the age of 60, meaning the program is responsible for keeping these young and elderly people out of poverty…

Debbie Reynolds Passes Away Just One Day After Daughter Carrie Fisher – The Guardian

Hollywood legend Debbie Reynolds has died aged 84, just one day after the death of her daughter, famed actor and author Carrie Fisher.

Her death was confirmed by her son, Todd Fisher.

“The last thing she said this morning was that she was very, very sad about losing Carrie and that she would like to be with her again,” Fisher said. “Fifteen minutes later she suffered a severe stroke.”

Reynolds died just hours after she was taken to Cedars Sinai medical center from her son’s house in Beverly Hills on Wednesday afternoon.

“The only thing we’re taking solace in is that what she wanted to do was take care of her daughter, which is what she did best,” he added.

On Friday, Carrie Fisher reportedly suffered a heart attack on a flight from London to Los Angeles. Reynolds posted on her Facebook page on Christmas Day that Fisher was in a stable condition.

Carrie Fisher died two days later.

On Tuesday, Reynolds addressed Fisher’s death on Facebook, writing: “Thank you to everyone who has embraced the gifts and talents of my beloved and amazing daughter. I am grateful for your thoughts and prayers that are now guiding her to her next stop. Love Carries Mother.”

After news of Reynolds’ own death broke on Wednesday, Fisher’s daughter, Billie Lourd, posted a picture on Facebook of herself with her late mother and grandmother at the 2015 Screen Actors Guild Awards…

University Of Kansas Students Being Offered Buttons Spelling Out Their Preferred Gender Pronouns – Daily Mail

University of Kansas students are being offered buttons through the school’s library system meant to make their preferred gender pronouns clear.

Various University of Kansas Libraries employees now sport the square-shaped pins, with extra ones also doled out to interested students, the Lawrence Journal-World reports.

Library leaders say the buttons are part of the library system’s ‘You Belong Here’ marketing effort meant to lure undergraduates and ensure that they feel welcome, including transgender students.

The buttons come in three versions: ‘He him his,’ ”She her hers’ and, for people who don’t identify themselves as male or female, ‘They them theirs.’

‘Because gender is, itself, fluid and up to the individual,’ a sign at the libraries reads. ‘Each person has the right to identify their own pronouns, and we encourage you to ask before assuming someone’s gender.

Pronouns matter! Misgendering someone can have lasting consequences, and using the incorrect pronoun can be hurtful, disrespectful, and invalidate someone’s identity.’

Expressing gender identity through buttons or other means has cropped up elsewhere in the interest of inclusion.

Buttons were given out at the start of this semester at Vermont’s Champlain College, home to a new Women and Gender Center. Students and teachers at the University of Vermont also have worn name tags and made business cards with their preferred pronouns…

Congress Moving To Cut Funding To UN In Wake Of Anti-Israel Vote – Washington Free Beacon
.

.
Congress is already setting the stage to cut off U.S. funding to the United Nations in the wake of a contested vote last week in which the Obama administration permitted an anti-Israel resolution to win overwhelming approval, according to congressional leaders, who told the Washington Free Beacon that the current administration is already plotting to take further action against the Jewish state before vacating office.

Other punitive actions by Congress could include expelling Palestinian diplomats from U.S. soil and scaling back ties with foreign nations that voted in favor of the controversial measure, according to multiple sources who spoke to the Free Beacon about the situation both on and off the record.

The Obama administration is still under bipartisan attack for its decision to help craft and facilitate the passage of a U.N. resolution condemning the construction of Jewish homes in Jerusalem, a move that reversed years of U.S. policy on the matter…

List: 17 Reported Post-Election Pro-Trump ‘Hate’ Crimes Debunked – American Mirror

The mainstream media breathlessly reported on the leftist Southern Poverty Law Center’s tracking of alleged “hate” crimes against minorities by Donald Trump supporters after the election.

The activist organization reported in Mid-December:

This is the fourth update in the Southern Poverty Law Center’s effort to collect reports of bias-related harassment and intimidation around the country following the election. This update spans the period from November 9 to December 12.

The SPLC collected reports from news articles, social media, and direct submissions via our #ReportHate intake page. The SPLC made every effort to verify each report, but many included in the count remain anecdotal…

While the total number has surpassed the 1,000 mark, reports have slowed down significantly compared to the days immediately following the election. The reports are nonetheless as heartbreaking and infuriating as before.

The Center claims 1,094 so-called “bias-related harassment and intimidation” incidents have taken place since Trump’s election.

But a funny thing happened on the way to the left-wing echo chamber (ie. CNN studios): one-by-one, many of the reported incidents were proved to be hoaxes.

Reddit user Onewalleee created a list of 17 incidents later debunked:

* The Texas family whose car and motorcycle were burned, and whose garage was spray-painted with “nigger lover”, only to have his wife later reveal that her husband had hoaxed the community by doing it himself. Debunked

* The black, “white supremacist” arrested for the infamous burned-down black church which had “Vote Trump” written on it: Debunked…

Obama To Punish Russia For Imaginary Election Hack – Daily Caller
.

.
White House officials are scrambling to punish Russia for election interference in ways that the incoming Trump administration will find difficult to reverse.

This punishment won’t solely take the form of additional sanctions. According to officials, it could also include measures like covert cyber operations, The Washington Post reports.

Officials are attempting to modify an existing executive order from April 2015 that gave President Barack Obama authority to punish foreign hackers abroad by expanding it to cover attempts to influence domestic elections.

The National Security Council determined this fall that existing authority would not be enough on its own.

One possible way to strike back at the Russians would be to deem electoral systems as critical infrastructure…

100% Of U.S. Warming Is Due To NOAA Data Tampering – DCSB

Climate Central just ran a piece titled The U.S. Has Been Overwhelmingly Hot This Year, which the Washington Post has picked up on. They claimed the U.S. was “overwhelmingly hot” in 2016, and temperatures have risen 1,5°F since the 19th century.

The first problem with their analysis is that the U.S. had very little hot weather in 2016. The percentage of hot days was below average, and ranked 80th since 1895. Only 4.4% of days were over 95°F, compared with the long term average of 4.9%. Climate Central is conflating mild temperatures with hot ones.

They also claim US temperatures rose 1.5°F since the 19th century, which is what NOAA shows.

The problem with the NOAA graph is that it is fake data. NOAA creates the warming trend by altering the data. The NOAA raw data shows no warming over the past century

The adjustments being made are almost exactly 1.5°F, which is the claimed warming in the article.

The adjustments correlate almost perfectly with atmospheric CO2. NOAA is adjusting the data to match global warming theory. This is known as PBEM (Policy Based Evidence Making.)

The hockey stick of adjustments since 1970 is due almost entirely to NOAA fabricating missing station data. In 2016, more than 42% of their monthly station data was missing, so they simply made it up. This is easy to identify because they mark fabricated temperatures with an “E” in their database…

Evidence Supports Claim That Hillary Clinton Armed ISIS – WorldNetDaily
.

.
Documents made public by the Washington watchdog group Judicial Watch and separately by Wikileaks Julian Assange back up Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan’s assertion on Tuesday that U.S.-led coalition forces have given support to terror groups, including ISIS in Syria.

In an interview with Democracy Now’s Juan González on July 25, Assange said the thousands of documents released by Wikileaks through its “Hillary Clinton Email Archive” contain some 1,700 emails that connect Clinton to al-Qaida and ISIS in both Libya and Syria, demonstrating Clinton supplied weapons to ISIS via Syria.

“So, those Hillary Clinton emails, they connect together with the cables that we have published of Hillary Clinton, creating a rich picture of how Hillary Clinton performs in office, but, more broadly, how the U.S. Department of State operates,” Assange said in the interview…

Court Rules State Department Can Be Required To Ask Attorney General To Recover Clinton Emails – Judicial Watch

Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton made the following statement regarding today’s ruling by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit in a case that would require Secretary of State John Kerry to seek the help of the attorney general in recovering additional Hillary Clinton emails:

The courts seem to be fed up with the Obama administration’s refusal to enforce the rule of law on the Clinton emails. Today’s appeals court ruling rejects the Obama State Department’s excuses justifying its failure to ask the attorney general, as the law requires, to pursue the recovery of the Clinton emails. This ruling means that the Trump Justice Department will have to decide if it wants to finally enforce the rule of law and try to retrieve all the emails Clinton and her aides unlawfully took with them when they left the State Department.

The appellate ruling reverses a decision in which the District Court declared “moot” a Judicial Watch’s lawsuit challenging the failure of Secretary of State John Kerry to comply with the Federal Records Act (FRA) in seeking to recover the emails of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and other high level State Department officials who used non-“state.gov” email accounts to conduct official business (Judicial Watch, Inc. v. John F. Kerry (No. 16-5015)). According to the FRA, if an agency head becomes aware of “any actual, impending, or threatened unlawful removal… or destruction of [agency] records,” he or she “shall notify the Archivist… and with the assistance of the Archivist shall initiate action through the Attorney General for the recovery of [those] records.”…

Hate Hoax: Texan Tags Racial Slur On Own Home – Breitbart
.

.
A man who claimed to have been the victim of a racist hate crime actually hoaxed the incident, writing “nigger lovers” on his garage door.

David Williams and his wife Jenny woke up on the morning of December 12 and found their garage door spray-painted with the racist message and their truck and motorcycle ablaze on their front lawn, according to the Daily Mail.

After Denton, Texas police opened an arson and hate crime investigation into the incident, Williams admitted to his wife that he had hoaxed the crime.

“David confessed to spray painting our garage door and starting the fire at our home,” Jenny Williams wrote on her Facebook page.

Before Williams confessed to doing the hate crime himself, a GoFund Me page was set up for the family, but now Jenny Williams has stopped the page and said all the donations will be returned…

Israel Green-Lights Settlements Following Obama’s UN Back-Stab – Daily Caller

Israeli authorities gave the go-ahead for the construction of hundreds of new settlement sites in East Jerusalem Monday after a United Nations resolution condemned Israel over the issue.

The defiant move comes after the U.S. government did not veto the UN condemnation of Israeli settlements, a marked change in U.S. policy. The Obama administration affirmed the decision to abstain in the vote on the resolution, despite being able to defeat it with its veto power, saying that Israeli settlements “puts at risk the two-state solution, as does any continued incitement to violence.”

“Israel is a country with national pride, and we do not turn the other cheek,” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in the wake of the resolution. “This is a responsible, measured and vigorous response, the natural response of a healthy people that is making it clear to the nations of the world that what was done at the U.N. is unacceptable to us.”

President-elect Donald Trump more closely aligns with Netanyahu’s position, and lashed out at the UN in the wake of the vote.

Beyond approving more settlements, the Israeli government has cut diplomatic contact at the UN with countries that voted in favor of the resolution, and summoned the U.S. ambassador to Israel to admonish him.

Palestinian leaders immediately hailed the vote as a victory.

“Now we can talk about the boycott of all settlements, the companies that work with them, et cetera, and actually take legal action against them if they continue to work with them,” the foreign minister of the Palestinian Authority told Palestinian media…

Carrie Fisher Passes Away At 60 – Times Of India

Dumbasses Decide To Rob Georgia Gun Store With Predictable Outcome – WMAZ

The owner of a gun shop who shot back against two armed suspects is speaking out after the incident, saying he had no choice but to fire at the men, killing one.

Bullet holes are still visible on the front on the Dixie Gun and Pawn shop Monday night after what detectives describe as a gun battle broke out earlier in the day.

Police said two armed men burst in Jimmy Groover’s store in broad daylight Monday and held the gun store owner at gunpoint.

“Get down on the floor, get down on the floor or I’ll kill you,” Groover recalled the suspects telling him. “Then they shot at me.”

What the men weren’t aware of is that Groover had a gun of his own. Feeling like his life was on the line, he pulled the trigger, shooting and killing one of the suspects. The other is still on the run.

Groover returned to his Cobb County business after the ordeal and showed detectives and family members how he pulled the gun off his hip to defend his life.

“I had no other choice. I had no other choice. I hate that it happened,” he told 11Alive. “I’ve been doing this 30 years. Nothing like this has ever happened. I never wanted this to happen but I want to go home at night, too.”

This is not the first time this gun and pawn shop has been burglarized. In fact, it’s happened around 20 times. Groover has added security cameras, bars on the windows and keeps all guns in safes at night in efforts to thwart would-be-criminals…
