California Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein is renewing her call for new gun-control laws because of Monday’s deadly Navy Yard shooting.
“When will enough be enough?” Feinstein said in a statement Monday evening.
“Congress must stop shirking its responsibility and resume a thoughtful debate on gun violence in this country,” she said. “We must do more to stop this endless loss of life.”
Lets see here. Again, Feinstein the Statist wants to politicize tragic deaths and trample the right of self-defense. Why not look at HOW the shooter at the Naval Yards had security clearance? He had an arrest record after all, and a troubled past.
Aaron Alexis, the Navy vet suspected in the killing of 12 people at Washington’s Navy Yard, had a troubled past that included two previous arrests involving shootings and a “history of misconduct” in the Navy.
Alexis, who friends described as a convert to Buddhism, was arrested in Fort Worth in 2010 after firing a gun into his neighbor’s apartment, leaving her “terrified,” according to a police report.
In addition, he was arrested in 2004 in Seattle for shooting out the tires of a construction worker’s car in an incident he later described as “an anger-fueled blackout.”
So where is Feinstein’s call for better vetting of who is given access to military bases? What of the “multiple weapons” We know he got one of them from a security guard he killed
Two federal officials told the Associated Press that Alexis had an AR-15 assault rifle, a shotgun and a handgun that he took from a police officer at the scene. The two officials spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss a pending investigation.
Apparently video shows him entering with ONLY a shotgun, so it would seem he got the “AR-15 after he shot the guard as well
Another interesting detail from NBC Washington, which is sadly relevant to the new national conversation on guns we’ll soon be having at the Democrats’ and the media’s urging:
Video also shows the gunman entered with a shotgun, News4′s Jackie Bensen reported. He shot the security guard and continued through the building, but according to what witnesses are telling investigators, by the time the shootings ended, the gunman was seen with a semiautomatic 9 mm pistol and an AR-15 assault rifle.
Authorities are investigating whether the gunman took the security guard’s service weapon – likely a 9 mm pistol – and hid in wait for the first responding D.C. police officers, who would be specially armed with AR-15s, then opened fire and shot one of the D.C. police officers in the legs. It’s unclear if the other officers assisting the wounded officer also were able to retrieve his AR-15.
Details could change, but no matter what the facts are vultures like Feinstein do not care about anything but exploiting this tragedy. They want us disarmed, and they are certainly not above lying.
UPDATE! FBI confirms no AR-15 used in Naval Yard shooting. Via Hot Air
The FBI confirms that the AR-15 was not used in the massacre
FBI Washington field office just confirmed gunman was NOT armed with AR15. Spokesperson says 1 shotgun and 2 pistols recovered
Weapons the shooter seemingly took from guards AT the scene of the shootings. I wonder if David Frum, or Piers Morgan, or Feinstein can tell us what law would have stopped this attack? Maybe if they started focusing LESS on banning guns, and more on real solutions, oh wait, who am I kidding here, that simply is not going to happen. More at Hot Air
Usually after a horrendous shooting, the conventional wisdom on what’s “really” to blame has congealed 24 hours later. Not this time. Alexis didn’t use an “assault weapon,” as you already know if you read Ed’s post. He used a shotgun, the weapon of choice of the vice president of the United States. He was, apparently, seriously mentally ill — paranoia, sleep disorder, hearing voices — but had been treated since at least last monthand hadn’t (yet?) had his Navy security clearance revoked on grounds of mental unfitness. Time magazine published a mini-bombshell last night about a Pentagon IG report that accused the Navy Yard of cutting corners on screening contractors who might pose a security risk (52 convicted felons received routine access), but as far as I know Alexis has never been convicted of a felony. On the contrary, his boss told Reuters that Alexis passed a background check in July after the firm re-hired him and that he had a “secret clearance” and a common access card for the Navy Yard. Presumably that explains how he got into the otherwise highly secure Naval Sea Systems Command building, which houses lots of classified information. Simply put, he had a right to be there.
If only the tragedy pimps were honest brokers who wanted to find out what happened BEFORE screaming for more gun laws they might actually do some good.
Case in point? Diane Feinstein, who would silence “just bloggers” by stripping away their right to free speech. How? By allowing the government to define “journalist” so as to restrict freedom of speech AND the press as that government sees fit. Gateway Pundit has the details
Dianne Feinstein wants to regulate who can and cannot be a reporter. The Internet’s largest disseminator of news, Matt Drudge, called her a “Fascist”.
Yesterday, the Senate Judiciary Committee voted for a “Reporter Shield Bill” which would determine who is and who isn’t a journalist.
Senator Feinstein proposed language that she said,”effectively sets up a test for establishing bona fide credentials that make one a legitimate journalist.” Legitimate journalists will be protected. Non-legitimate journalists, like blogs, will not.
When the First Amendment was written, there were no credentials for journalists, no journalism schools, no “professional” journalists. The press was a bunch of guys with printing presses. Benjamin Franklin was one, and he used his to great effect in the cause of freedom. Was he a “legitimate journalist”? Not by Senator Feinstein’s definition. If anything, Benjamin Franklin was more like a blogger than like Feinstein’s “legitimate journalist.”
As usual, the Founders saw despots like Feinstein coming and placed constraints on them in the Bill of Rights
As Samuel Adams said in 1768, “There is nothing so fretting and vexatious, nothing so justly terrible to tyrants, and their tools and abettors, as a free press.”
Absolutely, and evil people like Feinstein, and yes, I see people who seek to destroy our liberties as evil, would love to be able to control the media. Control the media you control the message, blogs make that impossible, so they must be silenced so that tyrants like Feinstein, Schumer, and Durbin gain more power.
Gregory D. Dean Jr., 31, of Hopewell Junction, was pulled over on Sunday evening in New Lebanon because the vehicle’s license-plate lamp was not working. Troopers found Dean with a legally registered pistol with a magazine that contained nine bullets, two more than the recently passed “SAFE Act” allows. Police charged Dean with unlawful possession of certain ammunition feeding devices, third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation and other vehicle infractions.
“This is a very sad day for all fair minded New Yorkers who believe in justice and value freedom. Here we see the full effect of our actions as the SAFE Act turns a law abiding citizen into a criminal. This didn’t save a life, this just destroyed one man’s life,” said Senator Greg Ball (R,C,I-Patterson), Chariman of the Seante Veterans, Homeland Security and Military Affairs Committee. “I continue to plead with this Governor to please allow the common sense changes to this bill that are obviously necessary.”
So you see my friends, New York is a bit more restrictive than Senator Dianne Feinstein who wants at least 10 rounds in the magazine! Still, it’s silly to have a “legal” firearm with a magazine, which is also “legal,” and yet you are not allowed to fully load the thing! It’s moronic.
Of course these laws are also intended, make no mistake, to punish gun owners and to make owning guns more inconvenient
Democratic Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said Tuesday that he will not include California Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s assault weapons ban in his gun control legislation.
Reid said that an assault weapons ban, which would be able to pass with a simple majority, would have less than 40 votes in the Senate.
Democrats control 53 Senate seats and also count independents Bernie Sanders and Angus King in their caucus, meaning that at least 15 members of the Democratic caucus did not get on board with the assault weapons ban.
Heartache for a Leftist
Over at The Other McCain, Stacy notes this tidbit about Christopher Dorner’s and his manifesto
The rage-filled “manifesto” written by former police officer Christopher Dorner before he went on an alleged cop killing spree around the Los Angeles area was dismissed by the head of the Los Angeles Police Department today as “self-serving” and “ramblings on the Internet.”
Well of course it is “self-serving” and rambling, manifestos are rambling, incoherent and self-serving, If you do not believe me, read the Communist Manifesto sometime, talk about Cukoo for Cocoa Puffs! But, the real story is not what the LAPD is pointing out. The real story is that the media is
downplaying, completely ignoring this nuts manifesto.
Indeed. The major media have tried to suppress the ugly truth about Chris Dorner’s motives and ideology by publishing a truncated version of his Facebook “manifesto” that omits the evidence that this mass murderer is, in fact, a liberal Democrat. Sooper Mexican got hold of the entire manifesto that makes the truth obvious enough:
No more Virginia Tech, Columbine HS, Wisconsin temple, Aurora theatre, Portland malls, Tucson rally, Newtown Sandy Hook. Whether by executive order or thru a bi-partisan congress an assault weapons ban needs to be re-instituted. Period!!!
Mia Farrow said it best. “Gun control is no longer debatable, it’s not a conversation, its a moral mandate.”
Sen. Feinstein, you are doing the right thing in leading the re-institution of a national [assault weapons ban]. Never again should any public official state that their prayers and thoughts are with the family. That has become cliche’ and meaningless. Its time for action.
Well, how about that? pretty strange isn’t it? I mean here is a guy, OK a nutcase with a rambling manifesto, who abhors mass shootings and “assault weapons”. And to show how much he cares about the victims of gun violence, he is shooting people! that, my friends is grade-A crazy! Of course, Dorner also shows another sure sign of certified lunacy by praising Dianne Feinstein, and Mia Farrow.
“Mia Farrow said it best” — yeah, that’s the kind of sentence that practically screams “diminished mental capacity.”
“Sen. Feinstein, you are doing the right thing” — another telltale clue that we are dealing with a deranged mind.
So, what if the killer had a manifesto that even used the words Tea Party? What if he, in any way, mentioned Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, or any Conservative blog? Would the media be ignoring that as unimportant? Yeah, I know, silly question. And of course, you David Frum would be Tweeting like a mofo ripping gun owners, and trying to stay relevant.
Feinstein, in introducing the bill, invoked the Sandy Hook tragedy, saying, “If 20 dead children in Newtown wasn’t a wakeup call that these weapons of war don’t belong on our streets, I don’t know what is.”
“Washington politicians shouldn’t be taking advantage of recent tragedy to try to push an aggressive gun control agenda,” Cruz said. “Real assault weapons — machine guns — are already functionally illegal, and they have been since 1934.”
Cruz noted Feinstein’s “proposal would have done nothing to prevent the terrible murders in Newtown, but it would limit the constitutional liberties of law-abiding citizens.”
“And gun control doesn’t work – the empirical data overwhelmingly demonstrate that strict gun-control laws consistently produce more crime and more murders,” Cruz added. “The Second Amendment exists to ensure that law-abiding Americans can protect their homes and families, and I look forward to helping lead the fight to defeat this bill and to protect our constitutional right to keep and bear arms.”
Emily Miller, columnist, shooter, and a fine spokeswoman for the right of self-defense
Deception is the key component in the latest push for more gun control laws. During her soap opera press conference Wednesday, Sen. Dianne Feinstein used a liberal clergyman to give her the moral high ground in her campaign to infringe on the Second Amendment.
The Very Rev. Gary Hall, dean of the Washington National Cathedral, donned his clerical collar for the all-Democrat event to say he can “no longer justify a society” that “permits the sale of high-capacity magazines designed for the purpose of simply killing as many people as quickly as possible.”
The anti-gun crowd labels any firearm magazine capable of holding more than 10-rounds “high-capacity.” It’s a scare tactic.
The Left has to lie and use the fear campaign, hoping enough Americans are ignorant enough about guns to fall for it, Emily Miller is not going to let that happen
Many firearms come from the factory with devices that feed between 15 to 30 rounds — some hold more, some less depending on their configuration and purpose. Ten is a number chosen out of thin air for reasons of political theater. The gun grabbers use it to imply the higher-capacity magazines enable murderers to kill more people, but it doesn’t actually work out that way.
In a 2004 study for the Department of Justice linked on Mrs. Feinstein’s own website, Christopher S. Koper, a professor of criminology, reported that “assailants fire less than four shots on average, a number well within the 10-round magazine limit” of the “assault weapons” ban.
“Studies prove that the arbitrary magazine capacity restriction that was in place for a decade did not reduce crime,” Lawrence Keane, the National Shooting Sports Foundation’s senior vice president and general counsel, told The Washington Times. “In searching for effective means to reduce violence, we should not repeat failed policies, especially when they infringe on the constitutional rights of the law-abiding.”
Violent crime has decreased 17 percent since the assault weapons ban expired.
That last number might be the most important of all. the Left, and the media are pretending that violent crime is running high, and increasing. that is not true. Violent crime has been falling, and so have “gun crimes” for 20 years now. Great piece by Miller, who is writing a four-part series at the Washington Times dispelling gun myths, You can read part one, and I strongly suggest you do, here And pass these around, especially to friends who might not be so familiar with guns.
H/T Donald Douglas who has a video of Emily laying waste to the Liberal lies. I think I am in love
Also check out Jessie Duff explaining some other facts about guns Feinstein will never tell you.
The Left has long embraced the wish to ban some, or all guns. There are really only two reasons in play here. For those in power, like Dianne Feinstein, the wish to revive the “assault weapons”ban is based in starting us down the road to an outright ban, and eventually, I believe, confiscation. Feinstein’s motives do not come from a lack of knowledge about guns. She knows the term assault weapon is ridiculous, and she knows it is about ginning up an emotionally driven image of fully automatic machine guns in the minds of Liberals, and other Americans who are ignorant of what a “semi-automatic” gun is. So-called assault weapons look scary to those who are not familiar with guns. In fact an assault rifle, like the dreaded and demonized AR-15 are just rifles with scary looking features, like a pistol grip, or a larger magazine. Feinstein and her ilk know that they can show these weapons, and throw around the term semi-automatic, and frighten people. They do this in hopes of turning public opinion towards supporting first an assault weapons ban. then, when this law proves a failure, they can then focus on all semi-automatic guns. Of course most guns ARE semi-automatic, so, you see where this road leads.
For those who support “reasonable gun laws” as if we have no gun laws on the books, their support comes from ignorance, and emotional reactions to gun violence. We all know that when we react emotionally, we tend to make mistakes, except of course while we are emoting like there is no tomorrow. That is exactly what the likes of Dianne Feinstein want. This story, from Fontana, California, has some great examples of how ignorant many are about not just guns, but about self-defense as well.
The Fontana Unified School District Police Department purchased 14 AR-15 assault weapons to protect students in response to recent shootings across the country, but some school leaders and citizens think it’s a step in the wrong direction.
FUSD Superintendent Cali Olsen-Binks approved the acquisition of the rifles, which are being stored on campuses in locked safes for responding police officers in the event of an attack.
Fontana Police Chief Rodney Jones and Mayor Acquanetta Warren supported Olsen-Binks’ decision.
“It’s unfortunate that we have to have that, but it’s the best message we can send to anybody that thinks to harm our children,” said Jones. “The message we’re sending is…not here, not now, we’re prepared for you. And if you seek to harm our children, we will neutralize that threat and you will most likely be killed.”
Warren said, “Everyone wants children safe. At this time, we as a community, we have to come together and find other ways. But in the interim, our police officers need to be equipped.”
On these opening paragraphs we see the media plying along with the emotionally charged terms. Note they call AR-15’s assault weapons, when in fact they are simply rifles. The truth is that police feel that having such arms at hand will help them prevent, or stop a school shooting. The tactical merits of the plan can be legitimately debated, but listen to how a school board member, obviously driven by an emotions reacts.
School board member Sophia Green, however, doesn’t believe anyone will be safer if weapons are kept inside schools.
“If a person who has the intention of coming on campus to kill… knows we have the AR-15s…they might come with something even bigger or better. They will come prepared,” she said.
This is the classic Liberal response to fighting crime. They scoff at the notion that anyone can defend themselves. Of course this fallacy is driven by Liberal rhetoric, and a news media that exploits mass shootings, and ignores the tens of thousands of times Americans use guns to defend themselves against violent criminals. To Ms. Green, it is incomprehensible that a school shooter could be stopped by a good guy armed with a weapon. To her all guns are bad. All gun uses are bad, and all who carry or own guns are bad. I would bet that she believes the Liberal lie that all violence is equal. Liberal gun control groups use these lies all the time. Lumping all gun deaths together, even when police, or law-abiding Americans shoot violent criminals. Their stats are meant to skew our perception. Their other favorite trick is to exclude times when armed citizens use their gun to defend themselves by brandishing their weapon, or firing a warning shot. Such cases make up over 90 % of defensive gun uses. So, excluding these shrinks the number of what I call positive gun uses.
Another Liberal voice is cited in the article
Anna Conklin, a child development specialist, also opposed storing the guns on school grounds. She told KCAL9′s Dave Bryan that a counseling program would be a better way to address violence on campus.
“Children aren’t born with a gun in their hand and vengeance in their mind. They aren’t necessarily going to grow into being a killer. We, as a society, need to address why children are growing up to commit these acts as teens and adults. I don’t see how adding more weapons on a campus is addressing that,” Conklin said.
A counseling program? For what? To help grief-stricken students deal with another tragic incident? I have no issue with counseling, but it has nothing to do with preventing school shootings. Neither does disarming the good guys. More guns on campus, if they are in the hands of the good guys is a good thing. Certainly gun-free zones is an idea that has failed miserably. Again, a Liberal assigns blame and responsibility to inanimate objects rather than to those who use those objects. Again, this is the all violence is equal, all guns are bad nonsense. The Liberal sheep who drink the Kool-Aid Dianne Feinstein serves them have allowed themselves to be indoctrinated by the likes of Feinstein. Feinstein, and her fellow Statists need useful idiots like the two women in the story above to help push their agenda through. This is why education is so important my friends. People who know about guns do not fall for the lies Feinstein spins
Alex the Crazy was on Piers Morgan the other night, debating gun control. Of course, Piers ONLY had Jones on his show for one reason. Jones is a nut job, and Morgan wants every American to think that all gun owners are like Alex Jones. I would bet most gun owners, and mos defenders of the second amendment would cringe at the thought of Alex being compared to them in any way. In fact, I would say that most of us agree with The Other McCain’s summation of Alex the Loony
Crazy is not a political philosophy, and neither is anger. So, naturally, when anti-gun fanatic Piers Morgan wants a “typical” spokesman for Second Amendment rights, he brings on the permanently angry Alex Jones, who begins his rant with some signifying jive:
“[W]e did it to point out that this is globalism, and the mega banks that control the planet and brag they have taken over — in Bloomberg, AP, Reuters, you name it — brag that they’re going to get our guns as well. They’ve taken everybody’s guns, but the Swiss and the American people and when they get our guns, they can have their world tyranny while the government buys 1.6 billion bullets, armored vehicles, tanks, helicopters, predator drones, armed now in U.S. skies, being used to arrest people in North Dakota.”
Your key phrase there is “mega banks that control the planet.” This is classic kook-talk, the kind of paranoid stuff like Zeitgeist that inspired Jared Loughner. Recall that Zeitgeist not only demonized bankers, but also suggested that 9/11 was a hoax.
These are the ideas that circulate on the kook fringe, and Alex Jones first became notorious as a promoter of 9/11 Truther craziness.
His appetite for kook-fringe conspiracy theories discredits Alex Jones, as does his implacable raging anger. The only reason Piers Morgan had Jones on CNN was in order to discredit the Second Amendment by saying, “See how dangerously crazy these gun nuts are?”
You can watch the video The Other McCain has posted of Jones on Piers Morgan. Jones starts out fine, with some good facts, then devolves into screaming about the New World Order. Like I said NOT the guy we want defending oue rights on national TV.
This guy, Joshua Boston, a former Marine , he knows how to go into the lion’s den and win. As Stacy McCain points out, Boston has a good way about explaining liberty to ignorant news folks
But there are lots of people who have taken that oath to “support and defend the Constitution of the United States,” and one of them is Marine Corps veteran Joshua Boston, who had a few words for Sen. Dianne Feinstein regarding her plan to disarm American citizens:
I am not your subject. I am the man who keeps you free. I am not your servant. I am the person whom you serve. I am not your peasant. I am the flesh and blood of America. I am the man who fought for my country. . . .
I will not be disarmed to suit the fear that has been established by the media and your misinformation campaign against the American public.
It’s kind of a tricky business, this question of who is serving whom, and some people seem rather confused about this. Many of the most confused people are, alas, a disgrace to my own profession. One of them, a CNN news anchor, got schooled by the former Marine corporal:
See how facts work, when applied with reason and sanity, instead of of the Crazinese that Jones uses? God bless Joshua Boston, and God bless Stacy McCain’s son who is in the Army now. We pray that God keeps him safe, and thank him for his service.
Saw this at Victory Girls. It is short, to the point, and written in the spirit of the Founders! If we only had political leaders with this Marine’s character and sense of duty.
Her gun ban legislation has made one person in particular so concerned that he, as an active duty Marine, decided to come out of the shadows and go public with his feelings. His name is Corporal Joshua Boston and he wrote a very polite but direct letter to Senator Dianne Feinstein regarding her gun ban legislation. You can read it below.
CNN’s iReport letter from Cpl Joshua Boston to Senator Dianne Feinstein:
Senator Dianne Feinstein,
I will not register my weapons should this bill be passed, as I do not believe it is the government’s right to know what I own. Nor do I think it prudent to tell you what I own so that it may be taken from me by a group of people who enjoy armed protection yet decry me having the same a crime. You ma’am have overstepped a line that is not your domain. I am a Marine Corps Veteran of 8 years, and I will not have some woman who proclaims the evil of an inanimate object, yet carries one, tell me I may not have one.
I am not your subject. I am the man who keeps you free. I am not your servant. I am the person whom you serve. I am not your peasant. I am the flesh and blood of America.
I am the man who fought for my country. I am the man who learned. I am an American. You will not tell me that I must register my semi-automatic AR-15 because of the actions of some evil man.
I will not be disarmed to suit the fear that has been established by the media and your misinformation campaign against the American public.
We, the people, deserve better than you.
Cpl, United States Marine Corps
God bless this man.
The Other McCain, who I stole part of that headline from, reports that we may have a motive in the Newtown shootings
NEWTOWN, Conn. – The gunman who slaughtered 20 children and six adults at a Connecticut elementary school may have snapped because his mother was planning to commit him to a psychiatric facility . . .
[The creepy little weirdo], targeted Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown after killing his mother early Friday because he believed she loved the school “more than she loved him,” said Joshua Flashman, 25 . . .
“From what I’ve been told, [the creepy little weirdo] was aware of her petitioning the court for conservatorship and (her) plans to have him committed,” Flashman told FoxNews.com. “[The creepy little weirdo] was apparently very upset about this. He thought she just wanted to send him away. From what I understand, he was really, really angry. I think this could have been it, what set him off.”
A senior law enforcement official involved in the investigation confirmed that [the creepy little weirdo’s] anger at his mother over plans for “his future mental health treatment” is being looked at as a possible motive for the deadly shooting.
Sounds plausible. I think it is clear that this creepy little shit needed to be locked away, for his good, and for those around him as well. What it takes, legally, to put a dangerous sicko away I am not familiar with, but surely it is not easy, and with mostly good reasons. One question I do have though. If I lived with a person who was a wacko, yes, I know by calling him a wacko I am being insensitive, but, I think we should be a tad more honest about wackos, so too bad if it hurts your sensitivities. If I lived with a wacko, I would make sure they could NEVER get my guns. So, I do wonder if his mother had them locked away. As a practice, I believe in locking guns away only in certain situations, for safety reasons, such as having small children around. Frankly, having you gun locked up, unloaded, makes it harder to use if it is needed in a hurry.
Speaking of guns, The Other McCain also notes that on the MSNBS Gun Control 2012 Telethon, which benefits the delusional Leftists among us, some ass hat, there are so many on MSNBS called the weapons the creepy little weirdo used “exotic”, which is, how shall I put this delicately, BS!
Today on the Endless Gun Control Telethon that is MSNBC — I Watch, So You Don’t Have To™ — a guest on Morning Joe referred to the Newtown shooting as exemplifying the problem caused by “exotic weapons.” This demonstrates the problem caused by common ignorance.
Adam Lanza’s weapons were a Bushmaster .223-caliber semi-automatic, a type described by the New York Times as “the most popular rifle in America, according to gun dealers,” as well as two 9-mm pistols (Glock and Sig Sauer) and a shotgun of unknown make.
These are not “exotic weapons” by any definition.
Of course, to Leftists, any gun is exotic, because Leftists, and Liberals, HATE guns. Liberals hate guns because they do are ignorant about guns, and because they have been taught, indoctrinated to think of guns, and gun owners, as bad. Leftists also hate guns, but for a different reason. They see guns as the ultimate symbol of the thing they hate most, Individualism. Anything that makes people more independent is evil to a Leftist. And make no mistake. Leftists KNOW that bringing back the idiotic “assault weapons” ban will not do a single thing to curb any mass shootings. They know that, as Stacy McCain notes, the Bushmaster rifle was not banned by Diane Feinsteins’ pet legislation.
Sen. Diane Feinstein (D-Californication) and Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Corruption) are vowing legislation to bring back the (absurdly misnamed) “assault weapons ban.”
We will leave aside the biggest aspect of the misnomer (i.e., semi-automatic rifles are not “assault weapons”) and focus instead on the “ban” part of this rhetorical delusion. The Bushmaster was NOT banned under the law Democrats want to bring back.
What we are dealing with here — amidst the chaotic cacophony of frenzied liberal noise — is another one of those “do something” episodes that occasionally afflict the media/politics nexus. The follies that result from the “do something” impulse, as politicians react to the latest headline and try to reassure voters that government can fix whatever problem concerns them, has resulted in some of the most awful stupidity in history, including Republican stupidity: Terrorists strike New York? Create a new government agency for airport security! Give the feds more wiretapping authority! Invade some foreign countries! And . . . how’d that work out for ya?
Their aim is to take out individualism, and they see this as an opening to further their agenda. The Left is at war here, as they have been for a long time, against Individualism, to achieve the end of destroying Individualism, they must take away the guns. As Stacy notes, Liberals are squealing like stuck pigs over the rhetoric the Leftists are using. The Leftists use that rhetoric “Assault weapons” “Exotic weapons” “Gun Culture”, and it gets the Liberals, who emote instead of thinking, into Do Something Mode. This is how we get stupid, ineffective laws that end up restricting rights rather than preventing crimes.
I would argue that eventually, the Left wishes to ban all guns, then other instruments of “violence” like knives. Of course, they would not go after all knives first. No, they would treat that as they did with guns, Dianne Feinstein wants to have a new assault weapons ban”, because the first one was a complete flop, and Democrats LOVE to reintroduce failed policies, because that is being progressive or something. So, just as Democrats will start with guns that look mean, they would start with knives that look mean too.
A&E doctors are calling for a ban on long pointed kitchen knives to reduce deaths from stabbing.
A team from West Middlesex University Hospital said violent crime is on the increase – and kitchen knives are used in as many as half of all stabbings.
They argued many assaults are committed impulsively, prompted by alcohol and drugs, and a kitchen knife often makes an all too available weapon.
The research is published in the British Medical Journal.
The researchers said there was no reason for long pointed knives to be publicly available at all.
Hmmm, in the UK they started with gun control, and now………….. Ultimately, they will run out of weapons to ban, so they will get around to criminalizing self-defense.
It wasn’t just the FBI that was aware of Petraeus’s affair last summer, but top officials in the administration. The Wall Street Journal reports, “FBI Scrutinized on Petraeus: Complaints by Female Social Planner Led to Email Trail That Undid CIA Chief“:
A social planner’s complaints about email stalking launched the monthslong criminal inquiry that led to a woman romantically linked to former Gen. David Petraeus and to his abrupt resignation Friday as Central Intelligence Agency chief.
The emails began arriving in Jill Kelley’s inbox in May, U.S. officials familiar with the probe said. Ms. Kelley, who helped organize social events at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Fla., told the Federal Bureau of Investigation about the emails, which she viewed as harassing, the U.S. officials said.
That FBI investigation into who sent the emails led over a period of months to Paula Broadwell, Mr. Petraeus’s biographer, with whom he was having an extramarital affair, according to the U.S. officials.
FBI agents were pursuing what they thought was a potential cybercrime, or a breach of classified information.
Instead, the trail led to what officials said were sexually explicit emails between two lovers, from an account Mr. Petraeus used a pseudonym to establish, and to the destruction of Mr. Petraeus’s painstakingly crafted image as a storied Army general.
Mr. Petraeus admitted to an affair in a letter to CIA employees announcing his resignation.
In the aftermath of the investigation, some lawmakers are aiming criticism at the FBI and the Obama administration, including Attorney General Eric Holder, who knew about the email link to Mr. Petraeus as far back as late summer. A House Republican leader also learned of the matter in October. Some argue that Mr. Petraeus shouldn’t have resigned; others said that the FBI should have formally notified Congress earlier.
The top Senate Democrat on intelligence issues said Sunday she would investigate the FBI’s handling of the inquiry, and why the matter wasn’t shared earlier with Congress.
“It was like a lightning bolt,” said Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D., Calif.) on “Fox News Sunday.” “This is something that could have had an effect on national security. I think we should have been told.”
Well, even Feinstein sees the problems here. For me, the biggest question is why does the White House NOT want Patraeus to testify about Benghazi?
(The Hill) Democratic senators have offered an amendment to the cybersecurity bill that would limit the purchase of high capacity gun magazines for some consumers.
Shortly after the Cybersecurity Act gained Senate approval to proceed to filing proposed amendments and a vote next week, Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.), a sponsor of the gun control amendment, came to the floor to defend the idea of implementing some “reasonable” gun control measures.
The amendment was sponsored by Democratic Sens. Frank Lautenberg (N.J.), Barbara Boxer (Calif.), Jack Reed (R.I.), Bob Menendez (N.J.), Kirsten Gillibrand (N.Y.), Schumer and Dianne Feinstein (Calif.). S.A. 2575 would make it illegal to transfer or possess large capacity feeding devices such as gun magazines, belts, feed stripes and drums of more than 10 rounds of ammunition with the exception of .22 caliber rim fire ammunition.
There they go again, trying to pass a new law, that would do absolutely nothing to stop crime, by hiding it from the people. This type of thing should never be allowed If these miscreants want such a law, write a bill, and let it be debated and voted on. Again, they have forgotten that the power lies with the people, not with politicians. They have forgotten that they SERVE the people.
A campaign treasurer for Democrat lawmakers in California – including Sen. Dianne Feinstein and Rep. Loretta Sanchez – was arrested by the FBI on suspicion of mail fraud, The Orange County Register reported.
US Attorney’s Office spokesman Thom Mrozek said Kinde Durkee, of Durkee and Associates, was arrested by the FBI on a criminal complaint filed by the US Attorney’s Office in Sacramento. KTLA-TV reported that the arrest took place in the Los Angeles suburb of Burbank, where Durkee’s office are located.
FBI Special Agent Steve Dupre said Durkee’s arrest was linked with her position as a campaign treasurer for Democrats running at federal, state and local levels.
State Senator Lou Correa told The Register authorities had told him they believe he and many other political candidates may be victims of the fraud. He said he believed he had lost “hundreds of thousands of dollars” in campaign funds.
“This is clearly a sense of betrayal of someone I have trusted for a number of years,” Correa said.
Durkee and Associates’ website says that “since 1972 we have worked for five Presidential campaigns, four gubernatorial campaigns, numerous senate, congressional, state and local candidates, initiatives, political action committees and many non-profit associations and small businesses.”
Federal Election Commission records cited by The Register show that Durkee is the treasurer for Feinstein and Sanchez, while California Secretary of State records show she serves as treasurer for more than 100 state-level committees.
Mrozek told The Register he expected Durkee to make her initial court appearance Tuesday afternoon.
It was a great moment when Cheney suggested that Patrick Leahy go “F” himself a few years ago. And, frankly, after reading this about Leahy, I would tell the moral retard the very same thing!
(Haartez) — U.S. Senator Patrick Leahy is promoting a bill to suspend U.S. assistance to three elite Israel Defense Forces units, alleging they are involved in human rights violations in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
Leahy, a Democrat and senior member of the U.S. Senate, wants assistance withheld from the Israel Navy’s Shayetet 13 unit, the undercover Duvdevan unit and the Israel Air Force’s Shaldag unit.
Defense Minister Ehud Barak, a long-time friend of Leahy’s, met with him in Washington two weeks ago to try to persuade him to withdraw the initiative.
According to a senior Israeli official in Jerusalem, Leahy began promoting the legislation in recent months after he was approached by voters in his home state of Vermont.
A few months ago, a group of pro-Palestinian protesters staged a rally across from Leahy’s office, demanding that he denounce the killing by Shayetet 13 commandos of nine Turkish activists who were part of the flotilla to Gaza last May.
Leahy, who heads the Senate Appropriations Committee’s sub-committee on foreign operations, was the principle sponsor of a 1997 bill prohibiting the United States from providing military assistance or funding to foreign military units suspected of human rights abuses or war crimes. The law also stipulates that the U.S. Defense Department screen foreign officers and soldiers who come to the United States for training for this purpose.
How sad that a total disgrace like Leahy keeps getting elected!
