California Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein is renewing her call for new gun-control laws because of Monday’s deadly Navy Yard shooting.
“When will enough be enough?” Feinstein said in a statement Monday evening.
“Congress must stop shirking its responsibility and resume a thoughtful debate on gun violence in this country,” she said. “We must do more to stop this endless loss of life.”
Lets see here. Again, Feinstein the Statist wants to politicize tragic deaths and trample the right of self-defense. Why not look at HOW the shooter at the Naval Yards had security clearance? He had an arrest record after all, and a troubled past.
Aaron Alexis, the Navy vet suspected in the killing of 12 people at Washington’s Navy Yard, had a troubled past that included two previous arrests involving shootings and a “history of misconduct” in the Navy.
Alexis, who friends described as a convert to Buddhism, was arrested in Fort Worth in 2010 after firing a gun into his neighbor’s apartment, leaving her “terrified,” according to a police report.
In addition, he was arrested in 2004 in Seattle for shooting out the tires of a construction worker’s car in an incident he later described as “an anger-fueled blackout.”
So where is Feinstein’s call for better vetting of who is given access to military bases? What of the “multiple weapons” We know he got one of them from a security guard he killed
Two federal officials told the Associated Press that Alexis had an AR-15 assault rifle, a shotgun and a handgun that he took from a police officer at the scene. The two officials spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss a pending investigation.
Apparently video shows him entering with ONLY a shotgun, so it would seem he got the “AR-15 after he shot the guard as well
Another interesting detail from NBC Washington, which is sadly relevant to the new national conversation on guns we’ll soon be having at the Democrats’ and the media’s urging:
Video also shows the gunman entered with a shotgun, News4′s Jackie Bensen reported. He shot the security guard and continued through the building, but according to what witnesses are telling investigators, by the time the shootings ended, the gunman was seen with a semiautomatic 9 mm pistol and an AR-15 assault rifle.
Authorities are investigating whether the gunman took the security guard’s service weapon – likely a 9 mm pistol – and hid in wait for the first responding D.C. police officers, who would be specially armed with AR-15s, then opened fire and shot one of the D.C. police officers in the legs. It’s unclear if the other officers assisting the wounded officer also were able to retrieve his AR-15.
Details could change, but no matter what the facts are vultures like Feinstein do not care about anything but exploiting this tragedy. They want us disarmed, and they are certainly not above lying.
UPDATE! FBI confirms no AR-15 used in Naval Yard shooting. Via Hot Air
The FBI confirms that the AR-15 was not used in the massacre
FBI Washington field office just confirmed gunman was NOT armed with AR15. Spokesperson says 1 shotgun and 2 pistols recovered
Weapons the shooter seemingly took from guards AT the scene of the shootings. I wonder if David Frum, or Piers Morgan, or Feinstein can tell us what law would have stopped this attack? Maybe if they started focusing LESS on banning guns, and more on real solutions, oh wait, who am I kidding here, that simply is not going to happen. More at Hot Air
Usually after a horrendous shooting, the conventional wisdom on what’s “really” to blame has congealed 24 hours later. Not this time. Alexis didn’t use an “assault weapon,” as you already know if you read Ed’s post. He used a shotgun, the weapon of choice of the vice president of the United States. He was, apparently, seriously mentally ill — paranoia, sleep disorder, hearing voices — but had been treated since at least last monthand hadn’t (yet?) had his Navy security clearance revoked on grounds of mental unfitness. Time magazine published a mini-bombshell last night about a Pentagon IG report that accused the Navy Yard of cutting corners on screening contractors who might pose a security risk (52 convicted felons received routine access), but as far as I know Alexis has never been convicted of a felony. On the contrary, his boss told Reuters that Alexis passed a background check in July after the firm re-hired him and that he had a “secret clearance” and a common access card for the Navy Yard. Presumably that explains how he got into the otherwise highly secure Naval Sea Systems Command building, which houses lots of classified information. Simply put, he had a right to be there.
If only the tragedy pimps were honest brokers who wanted to find out what happened BEFORE screaming for more gun laws they might actually do some good.
Case in point? Diane Feinstein, who would silence “just bloggers” by stripping away their right to free speech. How? By allowing the government to define “journalist” so as to restrict freedom of speech AND the press as that government sees fit. Gateway Pundit has the details
Dianne Feinstein wants to regulate who can and cannot be a reporter. The Internet’s largest disseminator of news, Matt Drudge, called her a “Fascist”.
Yesterday, the Senate Judiciary Committee voted for a “Reporter Shield Bill” which would determine who is and who isn’t a journalist.
Senator Feinstein proposed language that she said,”effectively sets up a test for establishing bona fide credentials that make one a legitimate journalist.” Legitimate journalists will be protected. Non-legitimate journalists, like blogs, will not.
When the First Amendment was written, there were no credentials for journalists, no journalism schools, no “professional” journalists. The press was a bunch of guys with printing presses. Benjamin Franklin was one, and he used his to great effect in the cause of freedom. Was he a “legitimate journalist”? Not by Senator Feinstein’s definition. If anything, Benjamin Franklin was more like a blogger than like Feinstein’s “legitimate journalist.”
As usual, the Founders saw despots like Feinstein coming and placed constraints on them in the Bill of Rights
As Samuel Adams said in 1768, “There is nothing so fretting and vexatious, nothing so justly terrible to tyrants, and their tools and abettors, as a free press.”
Absolutely, and evil people like Feinstein, and yes, I see people who seek to destroy our liberties as evil, would love to be able to control the media. Control the media you control the message, blogs make that impossible, so they must be silenced so that tyrants like Feinstein, Schumer, and Durbin gain more power.
Gregory D. Dean Jr., 31, of Hopewell Junction, was pulled over on Sunday evening in New Lebanon because the vehicle’s license-plate lamp was not working. Troopers found Dean with a legally registered pistol with a magazine that contained nine bullets, two more than the recently passed “SAFE Act” allows. Police charged Dean with unlawful possession of certain ammunition feeding devices, third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation and other vehicle infractions.
“This is a very sad day for all fair minded New Yorkers who believe in justice and value freedom. Here we see the full effect of our actions as the SAFE Act turns a law abiding citizen into a criminal. This didn’t save a life, this just destroyed one man’s life,” said Senator Greg Ball (R,C,I-Patterson), Chariman of the Seante Veterans, Homeland Security and Military Affairs Committee. “I continue to plead with this Governor to please allow the common sense changes to this bill that are obviously necessary.”
So you see my friends, New York is a bit more restrictive than Senator Dianne Feinstein who wants at least 10 rounds in the magazine! Still, it’s silly to have a “legal” firearm with a magazine, which is also “legal,” and yet you are not allowed to fully load the thing! It’s moronic.
Of course these laws are also intended, make no mistake, to punish gun owners and to make owning guns more inconvenient
Democratic Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said Tuesday that he will not include California Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s assault weapons ban in his gun control legislation.
Reid said that an assault weapons ban, which would be able to pass with a simple majority, would have less than 40 votes in the Senate.
Democrats control 53 Senate seats and also count independents Bernie Sanders and Angus King in their caucus, meaning that at least 15 members of the Democratic caucus did not get on board with the assault weapons ban.
Heartache for a Leftist
Over at The Other McCain, Stacy notes this tidbit about Christopher Dorner’s and his manifesto
The rage-filled “manifesto” written by former police officer Christopher Dorner before he went on an alleged cop killing spree around the Los Angeles area was dismissed by the head of the Los Angeles Police Department today as “self-serving” and “ramblings on the Internet.”
Well of course it is “self-serving” and rambling, manifestos are rambling, incoherent and self-serving, If you do not believe me, read the Communist Manifesto sometime, talk about Cukoo for Cocoa Puffs! But, the real story is not what the LAPD is pointing out. The real story is that the media is
downplaying, completely ignoring this nuts manifesto.
Indeed. The major media have tried to suppress the ugly truth about Chris Dorner’s motives and ideology by publishing a truncated version of his Facebook “manifesto” that omits the evidence that this mass murderer is, in fact, a liberal Democrat. Sooper Mexican got hold of the entire manifesto that makes the truth obvious enough:
No more Virginia Tech, Columbine HS, Wisconsin temple, Aurora theatre, Portland malls, Tucson rally, Newtown Sandy Hook. Whether by executive order or thru a bi-partisan congress an assault weapons ban needs to be re-instituted. Period!!!
Mia Farrow said it best. “Gun control is no longer debatable, it’s not a conversation, its a moral mandate.”
Sen. Feinstein, you are doing the right thing in leading the re-institution of a national [assault weapons ban]. Never again should any public official state that their prayers and thoughts are with the family. That has become cliche’ and meaningless. Its time for action.
Well, how about that? pretty strange isn’t it? I mean here is a guy, OK a nutcase with a rambling manifesto, who abhors mass shootings and “assault weapons”. And to show how much he cares about the victims of gun violence, he is shooting people! that, my friends is grade-A crazy! Of course, Dorner also shows another sure sign of certified lunacy by praising Dianne Feinstein, and Mia Farrow.
“Mia Farrow said it best” — yeah, that’s the kind of sentence that practically screams “diminished mental capacity.”
“Sen. Feinstein, you are doing the right thing” — another telltale clue that we are dealing with a deranged mind.
So, what if the killer had a manifesto that even used the words Tea Party? What if he, in any way, mentioned Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, or any Conservative blog? Would the media be ignoring that as unimportant? Yeah, I know, silly question. And of course, you David Frum would be Tweeting like a mofo ripping gun owners, and trying to stay relevant.
Feinstein, in introducing the bill, invoked the Sandy Hook tragedy, saying, “If 20 dead children in Newtown wasn’t a wakeup call that these weapons of war don’t belong on our streets, I don’t know what is.”
“Washington politicians shouldn’t be taking advantage of recent tragedy to try to push an aggressive gun control agenda,” Cruz said. “Real assault weapons — machine guns — are already functionally illegal, and they have been since 1934.”
Cruz noted Feinstein’s “proposal would have done nothing to prevent the terrible murders in Newtown, but it would limit the constitutional liberties of law-abiding citizens.”
“And gun control doesn’t work – the empirical data overwhelmingly demonstrate that strict gun-control laws consistently produce more crime and more murders,” Cruz added. “The Second Amendment exists to ensure that law-abiding Americans can protect their homes and families, and I look forward to helping lead the fight to defeat this bill and to protect our constitutional right to keep and bear arms.”
